Planet Waves Daily Oracle for Friday, Jan. 11, 2019

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Leo monthly for August 30, 2013.

oracle

In any relationship situation it’s necessary to maintain awareness of your own identity, desires and needs, and those you share with other people around you. Usually we take for granted having to sacrifice one or the other. That is an idea from the distant past, usually advocated by our parents and grandparents, but which is no longer true for you. It’s not a question of ‘all you’ versus ‘all about the other person’. And it’s not a matter of alternating between the two. At this point in human history we face the authentic challenge of being wholly self-present and wholly present for others in your context as a relationship or business partner. Is this more than prior generations can handle, or were they merely lacking that concept? You can handle the stretch, and you have the concept available.

The Daily Oracle offers a horoscope selected randomly by our Intelligent Archive Oracle program, unique to Planet Waves. It’s also a database of my horoscopes going back to the late 1990s. You can use the Intelligent Archive Oracle to answer questions and give you ideas for how to handle problems and situations you cannot see through. This feature is available to our Galaxy, Backstage and Core Community members. See this link for more information.

Planet Waves Weekly Horoscope for Jan. 10, 2019

Weekly Horoscope for Jan. 10, 2019 (#1233) | By Amy Elliott
New sign glyphs are by Lanvi Nguyen.
Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — You have the chance to make some long strides this week in support of your ambitions, and it would seem the positive effects will be all the more robust if your decisions are taken with both fairness and wisdom in mind. In particular, ensure you do right by those who have helped you along the way. Give credit where credit is due, and offer help where it’s needed. As well as keeping things honest and ethical, this will show others that you can be trusted, and — perhaps most importantly — bolster your faith in yourself. Get your full Aries reading by Eric here.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — This week may bring something of a reckoning with your self-esteem, especially as it relates to your spiritual path or philosophy of life. Do you count yourself as a full participant in the world, entitled to the same rights and respect as everyone else? If not, this is an optimal moment to consider why that might be, and to realign some of your ideas accordingly. You have many gifts that others need to see and benefit from, including a groundedness and wisdom that is becoming increasingly rare in our current chaotic environment. Get your full Taurus reading by Eric here.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Though your sign is known for its abilities with wordplay, you also understand the importance of keeping one’s word once it is given. Indeed, this was accorded such significance by the ancient Greeks that even the Olympian gods in mythology, strong as they were, could be bound by their oaths if they swore on the river Styx. That included Zeus, who was characterized as otherwise having virtually limitless power. Choose your words with care, and don’t make any promises if you can help it. Show yourself by your actions instead. Get your full Gemini reading by Eric here.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — It can be tempting to give your allegiance entirely to another person, and allow their opinions to become the arbiters of how we feel about ourselves. Many people do this, though perhaps not consciously, forgetting that other human beings are precisely that, and as prone to fallibility as we all are. Trusting in oneself can take a lifetime of work, though it’s worth the effort to be independent of others’ authority, and to be the sovereign of your own life. Any desire you might have to give up that right needs to be reassessed. Get your full Cancer reading by Eric here.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Plenty of the everyday decisions we make have an ethical component, though because the consequences are not often very serious, we can be tempted easily enough to let things slide. This can occasionally create a slippery slope. While it’s useful to recognize that we all make mistakes, and certainly to avoid self-flagellation when we do, it also helps to make the right choices as often as possible. This week, you would be well served to keep as much as possible on the honorable side of that line. Get your full Leo reading by Eric here.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — There’s a popular theory (with a few variants) that we’re now in a parallel universe; however far-fetched this may be, it certainly does seem at times as if everything is inside out with the label showing. Yet while there has lately been much shaking and rattling, you do have autonomy over your life and the course you take. If you have specific plans, the chances are they’re still within your grasp, however long you need to get there. The world may not be especially consistent, but you can be, and determined with it. Get your full Virgo reading by Eric here.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Now would seem to be a great time to push for any big changes you consider necessary in terms of your attitude toward the past. Recent experiences might have knocked you sideways, but you may also have noticed a sense of inner strength, even at the time. Let that strength guide you onward; note your power to reorganize your life in areas where it could be overdue. One of the great blessings of challenging moments is in highlighting this very point, and helping us finally be rid of things we are better off without. Get your full Libra reading by Eric here.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — You already possess some natural curiosity, and could possibly find some uses for it in the days ahead. If you become intrigued by an idea, give yourself the space to let loose your inquisitiveness and sense of wonder, and then go digging. Consider no question taboo, or unworthy of an answer. So long as you keep a grip on your faculty for independent thought, that should arm you against any bullshit you encounter; another way is to check multiple perspectives, and sources other than the internet. Get your full Scorpio reading by Eric here.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — This week you may make some gains in terms of your resources, or will perhaps be able to put what you have to better use. If you find yourself with a surplus, whether of money, time or items, there may be people who could benefit from your help; try to take up any opportunities that make themselves known. It’s possible to be generous with one’s mind as well as material goods; to give people the benefit of the doubt, make allowances and find common ground where it exists, which it very often does. Get your full Sagittarius reading by Eric here.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Developing a just self-image can be tricky, because our opinions of ourselves are always subjective. The same is generally true of any outside perspective we might seek. This is why it’s so helpful to cultivate self-acceptance. In addition, if you worry that you’re not the person you think you ought to be, first notice that word “ought” and consider that you’re likely judging yourself unnecessarily — and, secondly, at least you care about what you manifest in the world. Far too many people cannot say the same. Go easy on the self-criticism. Get your full Capricorn reading by Eric here.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — The present eclipse season will culminate with a lunar eclipse in your opposite sign: the last on the Leo-Aquarius axis for a while, marking the end of a phase. Following that, you may well find you’re able to step into a more active gear. In the meantime, though, you probably still have a lot of information to process. Try not to rush anything, even if you’re frustrated at the idea of yet more reflection. You’re laying the foundations for grappling with potentially significant changes, and it’s more important work than you might realize. Get your full Aquarius reading by Eric here.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — While the world seems to be dividing itself up by every possible permutation, and many of us are re-evaluating our values, ideas or whole identities amid the storms, you still appear to have a grasp on actual reality. After all, you have the gift of seeing through the illusion of separateness to what unites all living beings. You know that the majority of people simply want to live, laugh, love and dance, and can get along with most others quite happily. Wherever you get the opportunity this week, share your understanding. Get your full Pisces reading by Eric here.

Neptune, Nessus and the Government Shutdown

Dear Friend and Reader:

Before we get into tonight’s topic — some astrology related to the government shutdown, which I’ve traced back to the beginning of the Trump candidacy — I’m here to check in personally.

I know that my role as a reporter is to write about how unusual things are and to document the astrology behind them, though we are really off the charts (so to speak) these days. I keep noticing an energetic quality of everything pulled taut and thin, like Saran Wrap placed too tightly over a bowl with pressure coming from inside. Some days it feels like the oxygen is running out of the environment.

Other days, it seems like every system in the world is stretched beyond the capacity for which it was designed. This is true of people, too. Humans are resilient, to a point; many are feeling the strain right now, and are fragile. This is psychological and emotional, where resources are running thin; and it’s also about time. People have never seemed busier and more overextended, often needing to plan basic social interaction weeks in advance.

From EPA to TSA, Agencies Devoted to Nation’s Health and Safety Are Going Unfunded During Shutdown

From EPA to TSA, Agencies Devoted to Nation’s Health and Safety Are Going Unfunded During Shutdown
The partial government shutdown has entered its 20th day. On Saturday, it will become the longest shutdown in U.S. history if a deal is not reached. President Trump reportedly stormed out of a meeting with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer Wednesday after they refused to back a deal to fund a wall on the southern border. Schumer accused Trump of throwing a temper tantrum. Trump described the meeting as a “total waste of time.” Robert Weissman is the president of Public Citizen. The group just released a report titled “As Shutdown Drags On, Agencies Devoted to Consumer and Worker Health and Safety Unfunded and Deprioritized.”

Public Citizen: Frightening Prospect If an Authoritarian Like Trump Declares State of Emergency
President Trump says that he will likely declare a national emergency over the border wall if negotiations over the government shutdown continue. Robert Weissman, president of Public Citizen is interviewed. “The Congress has given the president quite a bit of authority to declare emergencies with terms that are almost unbounded,” Weissman says. “Congress has always expected, and society has always expected, that presidents wouldn’t abuse that authority recklessly, declaring emergencies just because they want to. We obviously have a president now who has no such constraints.”

National Parks Overflow with Trash, Human Waste as Gov’t Shutdown Approaches 3 Weeks
National parks around the country have seen overflowing toilets and trash piling up since the government shutdown began nearly three weeks ago. Park experts are now warning that the damage may take years to undo. Jonathan Asher, the government relations manager at The Wilderness Society is interviewed.

There Are Thousands of Cyntoia Browns: Mariame Kaba on Criminalization of Sexual Violence Survivors
Cyntoia Brown was granted full clemency by Republican Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam on Monday after serving 15 years in prison. The decision follows months of intense public pressure and outrage over her case. Brown was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of first-degree murder for shooting her rapist as a teenager. She had been sexually trafficked and repeatedly abused and drugged. The shooting happened when Brown was just 16 years old, but she was tried as an adult. Mariame Kaba, an organizer and educator who has worked on anti-domestic violence programs, anti-incarceration and racial justice programs since the late 1980s is interviewed. Kaba is the co-founder of Survived and Punished, an organization that supports survivors of violence who have been criminalized for defending themselves. She’s also a board member of Critical Resistance.

Facing Mass Deportation, Haitians Sue Trump to Preserve Temporary Protected Status
A New York City trial is challenging the Trump administration’s attempt to end temporary protected status—known as TPS—for more than 50,000 Haitians living in the U.S. Tens of thousands of Haitians were granted TPS after an earthquake devastated their country nine years ago this week. In November 2017, the Trump administration announced it would revoke TPS for Haitians, sparking protests and multiple lawsuits around the country. Marleine Bastien, executive director of the Family Action Network Movement, or FANM, is one of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit. She testified on Wednesday as a witness in the trial.

They Can’t Shut Down the Cosmos

By Amanda Painter

We’re not quite at the midpoint between eclipses — that occurs Jan. 14 with the first quarter Moon. How are you doing with ‘looking where you want to be’? Are you feeling drawn to continue clearing out some space, or to initiate a project, or to dive into something? Are you feeling optimistic or frustrated (or something else entirely)?

I ask simply as a prompt for some reflection and self-assessment; a way of taking a barometric reading on your inner and outer environment. With all the major sign-ruling planets in direct motion — and therefore not ‘forcing’ introspection — it occurred to me these questions might be useful.

Did you watch Pres. Trump’s Oval Office address Tuesday night? I confess I did not, trusting that I could read all about it afterwards if needed, without subjecting myself to his toxic projections in real time. It’s challenging enough being surrounded by its effects as they ripple through the collective. But in researching some of the current astrological aspects, it occurred to me just how reflective his speech and government-by-tantrum are of the astrology.

The first aspect to really speak to me of this is tomorrow’s Sun-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn. Now, on the level of your own personal life, you may experience this as another wave of deep cleaning and space clearing related to the recent eclipse — particularly regarding how you express or present yourself to the world. Or it could come through as the drive to get beneath the surface of something. Or perhaps as the need to repair a thing or situation that’s broken and needs radical changes to be able to continue.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Gemini weekly for February 7, 2014.

oracle

Any real career is likely to be a story of two steps forward, one step back — though the good news is that there are more forward steps than backward ones. One brilliant detail about your astrology right now is that any setback has the potential for conversion into achieving something that seems impossible. Your charts look like you’re coming close to your dreams, but are not fully willing to take the plunge. Over the next few weeks, I suggest you consider what it would mean to dive into a goal so important, it may have stalked you since you were a child. Go back to that original notion of “what I want to be when I grow up,” the first one or two that you can remember. Then look around at the world today and see what needs you perceive that match with what you have to offer. Note, I am not talking about a five-minute think-over — more like a five-week investigation.

“A Racist, Xenophobic Attack”: Immigrant Rights Activist Decries Trump Remarks About Southern Border
President Donald Trump addressed the nation Tuesday night in his first prime-time speech from the Oval Office. He urged Congress to approve $5.7 billion to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, but he opted not to declare a national emergency to force construction of the wall, in a xenophobic speech riddled with falsehoods. Oscar Chacón is the executive director of Alianza Americas, an immigrant rights group based in Chicago.

Bernie Sanders Responds to Trump’s Border Wall Address, Debunking President’s Lies About Immigration
After Donald Trump addressed the nation Tuesday in a speech that attacked immigrants and demanded a border wall, Sen. Bernie Sanders called out the president for lying to the American people and creating a false crisis at the border. Longtime Reporter Leaves NBC Saying Media Is “Trump Circus” That Encourages Perpetual War
“Prisoners of Donald Trump.” That’s how longtime NBC reporter and analyst William Arkin described the mainstream media in a scathing letter last week announcing he would be leaving the network, accusing the media of warmongering while ignoring the “creeping fascism of homeland security.” He issued the blistering critique after a 30-year relationship with NBC, calling for “Trump-free” media days and a reckoning about how the network encourages a state of perpetual warfare. Arkin, whose award-winning reporting has appeared in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post is interviewed. He is the author of many books, including “Top Secret America: The Rise of the New American Security State.”

William Arkin on Homeland Security’s Creeping Fascism and Why the CIA & FBI Won’t Save Us from Trump
Longtime NBC reporter and analyst William Arkin announced he was leaving the network last week in a blistering letter that took aim at the mainstream media for encouraging perpetual warfare and bolstering the national security state. In his letter, Arkin writes of Trump, “Of course he is an ignorant and incompetent impostor. And yet I’m alarmed at how quick NBC is to mechanically argue the contrary, to be in favor of policies that just spell more conflict and more war. Really? We shouldn’t get out Syria? We shouldn’t go for the bold move of denuclearizing the Korean peninsula? Even on Russia, though we should be concerned about the brittleness of our democracy that it is so vulnerable to manipulation, do we really yearn for the Cold War? And don’t even get me started with the FBI: What? We now lionize this historically destructive institution?” Arkin, whose award-winning reporting has appeared in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, and The Washington Post is interviewed. He is the author of many books, including “Top Secret America: The Rise of the New American Security State.”

Planet Waves Daily Oracle for Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Taurus monthly for December 1, 2002.

Power is an alien feeling to the weak. Yet at this juncture, I imagine it’s not an entirely alien feeling to you, because you’re cultivating your strength. Generally, we are weak or strong in the context of relationships. This is a fact so obvious that it’s extremely easy to miss. Relationships either strengthen or weaken us. They affirm or deny our true essence; they affirm or deny our selflove. This year concludes with a profound experience of defining yourself in the context of other people, and learning how to hold that shape, sense or guiding feeling in your awareness. You may feel dismayed at the extent to which you must define yourself within the context of others, yet that’s far more important than living in the context of others and not doing so. I would be very surprised to hear, two years down the road, that the events of the past 12 months, and more accurately, the past two, did not provide you with something rare, precious and utterly necessary that you’ll treasure forever.
