Not Dire, Maybe Tired — Virgo Full Moon

To hear some tell it, the Virgo Full Moon on Thursday at 1:05 pm PST (18:05 UTC) heralds dire events to come before our current season ends. That’s almost certainly not true. What’s far more probable is that we will all be more than just a little tired of at least one thing (probably more) by the time the Moon swings around to mid-Virgo in opposition to the Pisces Sun.

len-wallick-logo

After all, who on the East Coast and Midwestern portions of the U.S. has not grown just a bit tired of the freezing, icy, snowy weather? Maybe a few ski resort owners, or kids excused from school, but likely few others.

Then there’s politics. Who is not tired of elected representatives who claim to do their job by suspending government functions and holding you hostage? Perhaps those whose true agenda is no government at all?

Then there is war — only those who profit from it have not been fatigued to numbness by perpetual armed conflict. Thugs (in suits or ski masks), bullies (with or without badges), institutionalized oppression, corporate hegemony, and inhumanity to human beings as standard operating procedure are just among the many things that suck vitality out of modern living.

And you know what happens when you get tired. You might get cranky. Probably you make mistakes. You may possibly even self-medicate to excess (or get behind a steering wheel after even moderate medication) and make it all worse for yourself and others.

How about making things better? What an idea. You could start by not entertaining tired old astrological predictions of gloom-and-doom based on doctrines that assume we are helpless puppets of the heavens. You can claim your birthright of power to participate actively as fully-fledged members of the solar system.

One way to actively participate in astrology is a simple two-step process: observe and correlate. It is recommended that you compile more than three observations before attempting correlation. That takes some patience and some effort. Fortunately, the Virgo Full Moon coming up represents nearly the end of a very interesting and long pattern which is now ripe for your observation and correlation.

It goes like this: Thursday’s Full Moon will be the seventh in a row (since the Pisces Full Moon of Sept. 8, 2014) to take place in the middle of its sign. That’s right, Full Moons in Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo and now Virgo, all at either 14, 15 or 16 degrees and the pocket change of an arc minute (one sixtieth of one degree) or an arc second (one sixtieth of an arc minute) here and there.

The trend will not end until after the Libra Full Moon next month. It is an unusual streak, and it has meaning because mid-points have substantial meaning for astrologers, and for you.

Ever hear of Halloween, Groundhog Day or May Day? Those are the husks of ancient astrological holidays observing the midpoints between seasons. The very fact that some remnant of what the ancients called cross-quarter days still remains active in common consciousness testifies to the power of mid-points in your life.

Beyond the traditional cross-quarters, the Full Moon (and opposing Sun, please remember) at the midpoint of any sign places both Sun and Moon in the middle of a square aspect between the cusp of signs that share the same quality (cardinal, fixed or mutable).

The cusps of signs that share the same quality are always 90 degrees apart. A separation of 90 degrees on the zodiac and/or in the sky defines a square. Squares represent tension, usually internal in origin but often ascribed in error to external causes. Anything in the middle of a square is thus symbolically in the middle of astrology’s prime emblem of anxiety.

Thursday’s Full Moon, for example, will find the Pisces Sun halfway between the cusp of fixed Aquarius and fixed Taurus. The Virgo Moon in turn, will be at full phase just as it is precisely (to the degree) between the cusp of fixed Leo and fixed Scorpio.

When you are in the middle of something you are often so involved so as not to be fully aware. It happens to all of us. When the Sun and Moon are in the middle of a square for seven Full Moons in a row, the implication is that your entire psyche is rather deeply involved with some prolonged tension, and probably not aware to what extent.

No wonder it seems like there is so much for you to be sick and tired of no matter where you go. Because no matter where you go, there you (and your long-sustained internal tension) unavoidably are.

But now you are aware. Now that you have received what seems to be the pertinent observation, and now that you have been given a plausible correlation, you have something to work with. Not the weather, not the politicians, not thugs, not bullies, not even the masters of war and industry. Thankfully, what you have to work with is the one thing in the Universe you can change — yourself.

And, mercifully, you have a timeframe. After next month, the Full Moons will move off sign-center and imply different correlations, new challenges and different rewards.

In the meantime, get to work on yourself. Try having a nap instead of a drink. Instead of ascribing what you are sick and tired of, describe it. Observe what others are doing with their tension. Get them to to describe what theirs is. Encourage them to own it. Support them. Find something in common rather than seeking conflict. Find reason to bond.

That’s your Full Moon in Virgo. Not an end. Not at all. Rather a real and meaningful beginning, if you will but make it. What say ye?

Moonshine Horoscope — Virgo Full Moon Edition

Thursday, March 5, is the Virgo Full Moon, exact at 1:05 pm EST (18:05 UTC). This is the Moon in Virgo opposite the Sun in Pisces. (View full chart here) Len Wallick has interpreted this lunation for each of the 12 Moon signs in the horoscopes below.

To read these horoscopes, it helps to know your Moon sign (where the Moon was at the moment of your birth), which you can find out by entering your birth data into Serennu.com. If you know your birth time, that will ensure accuracy — but often you can still be sure of its sign even if the exact degree is fuzzy. You can also read these horoscopes for your Sun and rising signs for additional insight.

By Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — It’s good to cultivate and nourish your inner child. It makes you a more complete, well-rounded human being. It’s not so good if your inner child runs your life. For those of you born with the Moon in Aries, there is some potential for the ‘not so good’ over the next few weeks. Fortunately, there is something you can do about it. Be with yourself as a child. Give yourself a hug. Let that inner kid know you love and cherish its presence as part of your total being. If your wise, old inner child loves you in return, you won’t have to worry — it will know its proper place in your psyche and behave accordingly. — by Len Wallick

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — From what we are led to believe, Jesus resorted to parables to describe his revolutionary spiritual perceptions. That way, the shepherds, fishermen, tax collectors and others he ministered to could understand what he was getting at from their own, relatively prosaic frames of reference. Similarly, you may soon need a parabolic approach for expressing revelations originating in your own lunar consciousness, so as to be understood by others. Therefore, as a prudent measure, take some time for translation before sharing either your nocturnal or diurnal dreams with anyone in the near future. — by Len Wallick

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Here’s to looking at you. While you look at the Virgo Full Moon of March 5, reflect on yourself. That’s because both your lunar sign and Virgo are ruled by Mercury. Also, both Gemini and Virgo share the quality of mutability (mutable signs follow a fixed sign and precede a cardinal sign; that is, they occur in the middle of each season). Yet, because of the shared mutable quality, Gemini and Virgo are at right angles (or ‘square’) to each other on the zodiac. This is good, because looking at a Full Moon separated by approximately 90 degrees from your natal Moon position will give you a perspective on how those who have so much in common can be so different. — by Len Wallick

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Truth can be an aggressive thing. It can root you out like a weed. It might blow you away like a fallen leaf. Truth can also burn, or (alternatively) sweep you away on an irresistible tide. While it’s not possible to predict what your relationship with the truth will be when the Pisces Sun opposes the Virgo Full Moon this week, you might want to prepare for an encounter with an irresistible veracity. Of course, that’s a good thing, because the truth eventually and always wins. Therefore, if you run into an upper-case version of The Truth anytime soon, please remember not to fight it. — by Len Wallick

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Being born with the Moon in a sign ruled by the Sun can be confusing. Yet it’s also an advantage. You have a natural proficiency for understanding and resolving the types of paradoxes symbolized by the Sun and Moon on opposite sides of the sky and zodiac (as is the case with any Full Moon). A Full Moon in your neighboring sign of Virgo gives you a chance to leverage into compassion the understanding bestowed by your Moon sign. That’s how you might want to let this particular Virgo Full Moon move you to more fully accept people with lifestyles that differ from your own. — by Len Wallick

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Patricia Arquette, the most recent Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress, used her moment in the spotlight not only to give thanks but also to promote social justice. This year’s Full Moon in Virgo is placing all of you born under a Virgo Moon in a symbolic spotlight with a similar opportunity to do or say the right thing on behalf of those who have little voice in the world. Granted, you will probably not have the vast television audience Patricia Arquette had. Nonetheless, an auspicious moment presents itself to you. Do what you can to make the most of it. — by Len Wallick

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — While some may be stuck in old stories asking why, those of you with a Libra Moon should envision better stories and ask “Why not?” For you, answering that simple two-word question would begin by being receptive to how you can do better. Beyond that, it would be helpful if you were courageously proactive enough to ask others how you could do better by them. Of course, you must be ready to sort out the wheat of genuinely supportive feedback from any abusive chaff. Don’t let the bastards get you down. Rather, please allow loving souls to show you the way up. — by Len Wallick

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — The blessing of a Scorpio Moon is your ability to drill down to that which many cannot discern because it is somehow hidden. In that sense, you and others who share your lunar fellowship are intuitively capable of resembling the fictional private detective Sherlock Holmes. Now is a good time to put that gift to work by discreetly but actively assessing and appreciating the sensitivities and vulnerabilities of others; this translates into showing greater respect in a meaningful way. If you can turn your innate talents to that one purpose, the results could very well change the trajectory of your life in a very good way. — by Len Wallick

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — This Virgo Full Moon heralds the beginning of a very important time in your life. This year (and all the way through 2017) part of your life’s mission should be perfecting self-examination without self-criticism. There is enough going on in the world to get anybody down. Those of you born under a Sagittarius Moon need most of all to swear off getting down on yourself. By way of achieving your mission, please consider ways (such as seeing a compatible and qualified therapist) to know yourself better. After that, be careful not to withdraw from others, but rather engage the world with justified pride in who you are. — by Len Wallick

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Don’t be surprised if others ask you to assume leadership. Many, if not all, with a natal Capricorn Moon are well qualified to show the way. To be the best guide possible, however, is not a skill anybody is born with. Competent captains are made, often self-made. Those remembered as the best directors often have a knack for convincing others of their wisdom, combined with a kind nature. Given what the astrology of this Virgo Full Moon implies, you might want to begin experimenting now with what it would take for others to feel safe, both with you and depending on you. — by Len Wallick

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Hellhounds are not on your trail. What you might feel gaining on you is nothing you need to flee or hide from. In all probability, most of the rest of the world is simply trying to catch up with what the emotional needs of an Aquarius Moon have naturally led you to become. For that reason it is now more important than ever to acknowledge and trust that your deepest devotions have not been misplaced. In all probability, enough of the world will soon catch up so as to provide the sustenance you need. Until then, put your belief in the most productive and secure of all possible places — yourself. — by Len Wallick

A Gift for Pisces: Many Planets in the Sea

Dear Friend and Reader:

The Sun has moved into Pisces, beginning a new astrological year for this sign. As the zodiac’s last sign, Pisces is both the headwaters of the zodiac and the Delta of Venus — the beginning and the end of the River of Night. You might think of Pisces as the most complete sign, the most sensitive and one closely involved with transitions of all kinds.

And now is a time of transition — making an astrology reading one of the best gift options for helping the Pisces in your life move with confidence through the changes that are coming.

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

I am about to record the Pisces reading for 2015, which covers birthdays between Feb. 18 and March 20, as well as everyone with Pisces Moon or rising. We are offering that reading at the lowest pre-order price now.

Here is one of the reasons, in addition to current activity, this year’s reading will be a particularly important resource for those with strong Pisces in their chart:

In one month there will be a spectacular total solar eclipse in Pisces. This is the time for Pisces to understand their astrology — and take advantage of what it’s offering. You are being encouraged to shore up your confidence, to aim high and commit yourself fully to your goals — and your happiness. I also have plenty to say about relationships.

As for the reading: I present two audio segments of astrology, each about 35 minutes long. In the third section, I cover astrology afterthoughts and then a tarot reading.

Overall, it’s easygoing and designed to offer encouragement and help you expand your vision for your life. I’ll include last year’s reading as well, and a live conference call where you can ask me any questions you may have.

You can purchase the Pisces reading at the pre-order price of $24.95.  We offer the best prices for those who get on board sooner. I plan to have this reading done by the evening of Monday, Feb. 23, so the pre-order period will be relatively short.

Thanks for tuning in, and thank you for trusting me as your astrologer.

Lovingly,

P.S. Remember, my birthday readings make excellent gifts, and this reading is for you if you have Pisces rising or the Moon there. If you are born under a different sign, please visit the reading store.

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — If you have recently achieved some sort of notoriety, please consider how it might be something more than just a lark. If, on the other hand, you have either not sought or not attained a more widespread recognition by now, bide your time and act in good faith. Whether or not you have received pleasant props is not the essence of this moment for those with a Pisces Moon. What’s important is that you see yourself as part of something bigger than you and longer lasting than your life. If you behave as though immortality were possible, it might well become probable for you very soon. — by Len Wallick

Planet Waves Weekly Horoscope, Feb. 26 – March 5

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — You go, Aries. You have every reason to be confident. What you have right now is all that’s required to plunge ahead with your most cherished ambitions. Who you currently are is more than enough to excel. To further assure that you are the complete package of efficacious energy, all you have to bring to the table is a sure and certain knowledge of what you want, along with a disciplined focus on getting it. All you need to watch out for has to do with your feet. First off, watch where you step. After that, please try to be careful that you always step up, not on. Don’t be a heel. Stay on your toes. — by Len Wallick

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Your native authenticity is the one thing you should indulge to the max going into next month. Other forms of indulgence may also be beneficial so long as your mind is engaged like an easygoing gatekeeper following a simple protocol. There may be times when you feel as though you are walking a very fine line between excessive inhibition and just plain excess. In fact, there is no need to put yourself on a tightrope. Just be true to yourself. At every sensible opportunity, touch yourself in some way, somehow. The sense of grounding that results will likely preclude nearly any possible error. — by Len Wallick

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — If you have been listening carefully since the first of the year, a pattern should be developing in what you hear from others. If your listening skills have not been employed to their maximum potential thus far in 2015, it’s not too late to tune in. Either way, pay special attention to messages that would be repetitive but for the fact that the same sentiment is coming in to you from different sources. Even if you have felt disconnected, you are still online. The world is actually flowing right up to your doors of perception. Simply keep those doors open and your appropriate responses will be obvious and easy. — by Len Wallick

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — You may have either experienced or exemplified extreme ends of a broad spectrum in recent months. If that’s true for you, the most useful takeaway is probably a hard-earned wisdom that the truth and/or best consequences are usually to be found somewhere in between. On the other hand, if you have kept to the middle road for a while, it just might be time to get your freak on somehow. Should you choose to accept what might seem like an impossible mission to explore the edge, try getting started by picking one of your boundaries and pushing it. Who knows? You might realize an impossible dream. — by Len Wallick

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Granted, catching a fire in the Rastafarian sense may or may not be your style. If it isn’t, now would be a good time to begin thinking about what your style of ignition is. This is not about lighting a fire under yourself, nor about work in any conventional sense — you appear to have all that covered. What we have here is more likely a need to better spark and stoke communications, with yourself and with others. Try addressing that need by regularly taking long walks during which you have short talks, both alone and in good company. Then, allow the walks to gradually grow shorter and the talks longer. — by Len Wallick

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You and other members of your solar tribe are in a position both to see more clearly and to feel more deeply over the next few weeks. Maybe longer. This could do you a lot of good. More to the point, the powerful perspective astrology seems to be allowing you could do a lot of good for others. Especially those you love. First, however, look and feel for new ways to love yourself. Accept yourself just as you are regularly. Please yourself somehow daily. Honor your enhanced self-awareness by owning it proudly. Then, act so as to be one with what is uniquely you and essentially yours. — by Len Wallick

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Oh yeah, you got it going on. The balance you so often seek is now almost certainly seeking you. Let it find you. More specifically, something you boldly initiated during the first half of last year now appears to require only one last innovation on your part to result in a triumph. This could be something that, as recently as December, looked as though it would never come to fruition. In order to git ‘er done consider eschewing both perspiration and the “tried and true” in favor of inspiration and innovation. Doing something you have never done before is probably just what the doctor ordered to make and make well. — by Len Wallick

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — It seems as though you have always known when to hold ’em, and when to fold ’em. Evidently, showing your hand is where you get hung up. Yet you know good and well that everybody must periodically reveal what they have held close to the vest just to keep both personal and social relationships moving. So happens the current astrology has you well placed to address your most poignant secrets. You can further your own cause by simply seeking to lie down with somebody as often as possible. Even if it’s just to cuddle, getting horizontal with a good buddy will probably release untold wonders. — by Len Wallick

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Even if you are not a motherless child, you can easily be excused for feeling as though you are every once in a while. It goes with having been born while the Sun walked on mutable fire. Right now, however, should not be one of those times. If it is, examine your habits, especially those newly acquired this year. Could be at least one of your recent routines has taken you out of a flow of affinity that comes naturally, and is so vital for you. If you have unplugged you might want to reconnect more often to recharge your batteries. If you are not getting the juice you need, seek a better outlet. — by Len Wallick

If you would like to hear the first section of your Sagittarius, Aquarius or Capricorn birthday reading — or if you’re curious about what a birthday reading is — I have set up this page where you can listen free.

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Consider if you will how the quality of your life would improve if there were nothing to rage against. Allow yourself at least to imagine that there is no such thing as a dying of the light. Envision how surrender might conceivably be an authentic and genuine act of will. You have your reasons, all of which are worthy of respect. Even so, those same reasons are also worthy of examination. It’s not necessary to sustain adversaries, or darkness, or struggle. You have options. You have not come this far to deny yourself choices. Give yourself a chance to win, and you probably will. — by Len Wallick

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Some tough-guy types might tell you trying is lying. Don’t believe them. In your heart, you know every earnest effort makes a difference. Every exertion also makes you better. So, why not avail yourself of the chance astrology apparently now affords you to rehearse? First, think about how to practice without risk. For instance, instead of asking your boss for a raise, begin by asking for more time when you need it. That way, you can practice stating your needs without being so shy. As you get better at stating your needs, you can go on to either higher stakes or subtly honing another skill. — by Len Wallick

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Throw a party. If you are not a party animal, send out invitations for an afternoon tea. Should tea not be your style, sponsor a game night. Perhaps you are not a night-owl. In that case, ask neighbors over for a weekend brunch. However you do it, it’s high time to have some sort of soiree where you live. If you have roommates, negotiate. Make this your chance to finally clean up if your place is a mess. No matter what, somehow hosting a social gathering of some type holds a dual promise of both living it up and living better long after your last guest has gone home. — by Len Wallick

Mercury Initiates March (and You)

Mercury will be initiating a week, a month, and probably you with expansive style come Sunday. Indications are you should not take a passive role and simply wait for something to happen. Even though several expressions of the same theme will be intersecting in one day’s worth of astrology, you will probably have to make at least a some effort to catch the swelling wave.

len-wallick-logo

The requisite nature of your participation will implicitly have to do with exposing yourself to some sort of mind-expanding initiation. That will mean going to someplace new, or doing something for the first time.

Be selective. Wherever you go or whatever you do should have a quality or reputation that makes your pulse race a bit in anticipation of what it will be like.

In addition, Sunday’s astrology implies that your chosen activity or destination should stimulate your mind at least as much as your body. Finally, insist on some sort of inherently spiritual (but preferably not ideological or hierarchical) quality for your astrologically harmonious participation.

So what is happening in the sky and on the zodiac to open a door and possibly blow your mind on the first day of both next week and next month? A handful of things, actually. But there is no doubt that Mercury will be the crux of what manifests for you. So let’s look at the little big planet first.

Mercury is versatile. Yes, it has to do with mind and mentally-related subjects. As Eric has repeatedly pointed out, however, there is now an unavoidably electronic component to Mercury’s impressive reach, manifesting in every form of media and whatever else moves quickly.

Then, of course, there is Mercury’s well-earned reputation as a trickster, paradoxically paired with its proficiency as a medic. The list of other mercurial qualities goes on and on. It’s quite the multitasking planet.

Mercury is in Aquarius and has been since Jan. 5. How could the planet with fastest apparent motion be confined to one sign for nearly two months? Well, there was this little matter of a retrograde during which Mercury slowly (for the most part) pinged back and forth in basically the first half of this fixed air sign. You probably got pinged a bit as well.

Mercury entered the arc (or first shadow/echo phase) of its retrograde motion on the same day it entered Aquarius. It turned on a dime and shifted into reverse Jan. 21, then resumed direct motion Feb. 11. Finally, on March 3, Mercury will move out of the narrow slice of the zodiac to which it has been confined most of this year, and concludes its second echo/shadow phase by accelerating into new places and interactions.

But not before an implicitly grand finale.

The big finish will come on March 1. In the course of one day, Mercury will achieve an exact sextile aspect with Uranus (in Aries) for the third time this year, followed by an opposition to retrograde Jupiter in Leo for the very first time this year.

Jupiter and Uranus are not chopped liver. What they have in common is that both express some sort of expansion, albeit differently. Jupiter’s expansiveness is usually on the magnanimous side, although retrograde motion can bestow a quality of megalomania to Jupiter’s old and usually stable reputation.

The reputation of Uranus does not imply stability. As a matter of fact, none other than the concisely erudite Robert Hand flat-out referred to Uranus as “a crazy planet” when interviewed for the October/November 2014 edition of The Mountain Astrologer magazine.

Hence, what expansive quality Uranus can be said to have tends to be somewhat explosive. That’s a good quality if you can harness it. Fortunately, Mercury in sextile aspect (closing to within 60 degrees of separation) with Uranus on Sunday indicates a chance you might be able to capture lightning in a bottle, or more precisely with your mind.

The evocation of lightning is not an idle one. Mythical Jupiter was known for his thunderbolts, with which he sustained his power over heaven and Earth. Mercury’s archetype, as already mentioned, has grown to include all things electronic. Finally, Uranus (as what some astrologers call the “higher octave” of Mercury) has an implicitly galvanizing cachet all its own.

We already have some experience with Mercury in what is normally known as a supportive sextile aspect with Uranus. That’s because Mercury’s retrograde sweep has already brought us the same aspect twice this year — on both Jan. 14 and Jan. 28th. It would be worth your while to check back on your calendar, diary or memory for what happened on those two Wednesdays, to give you a leg up on what promises to be a third time that just might redefine the word ‘charm’.

We have no such previous experience this year with Mercury in Aquarius precisely opposing Jupiter in Leo, but maybe a hint. When Mercury apparently initiated reverse motion on Feb. 11, it was two degrees away from a precise opposition with Jupiter. The sky has waited until this coming Sunday, however, to show us the real thing. Hence the idea that Mercury will be hooking you up to an initiation of sorts, one that might well blow your mind.

Like Mercury’s reputation, there’s an even longer list of indications in the astrology to reinforce the theme of a mind-expanding initiation on Sunday. We could go on and on here, but by now you have the idea.

To access the real thing yourself, you will need to do your part. After all, to surf you must first go to the beach. So, as Mercury would have you do, start thinking now.

Would your first experience watching an opera fill the bill? On any given Sunday, you might well find a bargain matinee. Alternatively, you might take a walk on the wild side (as Uranus would encourage) and check out a kinky cabaret. Perhaps (as Jupiter may have you do) you might even show up to support an unconventional (but now legal) marriage ceremony.

So here’s wishing you Jupiter’s good fortune, Mercury’s stimulation and the combustive upside of Uranus. May you come back to Planet Waves next week a bigger, better person for having caught every bit of a perfect wave for the first time in your life.

Finding Your Place — A Pattern In The Sky

And before my life is done, got to find me a place in the Sun
— Stevie Wonder

There is an interesting pattern in the sky this week. The pattern favors finding your place in a larger scheme of things than just your personal life. It has to do with how the sign rulers have temporarily sorted themselves out. As always, the final and crucial ingredient in making this astrology work for you is your awareness, holistic perception and conscious response.

len-wallick-logo

With an exception for the Moon’s unique scope, sign rulers associated with your personal life (the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars) are clustered into a relatively narrow arc of the zodiac — all within 60 degrees of each other.

As result (and once again, with the fast-moving Moon as an occasional brief exception) the so-called “personal planets” are not perfecting any major aspects to each other in the near future.

That’s because Venus is now separating from its weekend conjunction with Mars, which occured as both entered Aries. Also because the next major aspect after a conjunction is a sextile, which requires a separation of 60 degrees. That’s something Venus will not quite achieve from either the Pisces Sun or Mercury (which is accelerating faster in Aquarius than Venus is in Aries) anytime soon.

Instead, the four sign-ruling planets closest to the Sun are exclusively aspecting their peers in the outer part of the solar system for the time being. Proportionally speaking, it’s a big jump from the orbital period of Mars (about 2 years) to the approximately 12 years it takes for Jupiter to circle the Sun and the zodiac. The same is true for Saturn’s circuit of nearly 30 years.

For that reason, Jupiter and Saturn are usually interpreted as corresponding to entire segments of your life rather than the frequently repeating life cycles that correlate to personal planets. That’s how Jupiter and Saturn have come to be thought of as trans-personal planets, completing their respective orbital periods to distinguish passages associated with generations.

Beginning with Uranus (which takes approximately 84 years to move through all 12 signs), and continuing on out to include the even longer periodicity of Neptune and Pluto, the modern sign-rulers tend to mesh with historical cycles and social entities that transpire over multiple generations.

Hence, the fact that personal planets are now focusing their most meaningful angular attentions on the outer solar system has a symbolic message for you: now is a good time to place yourself in a larger, longer context.

You might say the process started yesterday with the Pisces Sun achieving a separation of 90 degrees (a square aspect) from Saturn in Sagittarius. Therefore, in order to place yourself in context with the sky, try to recall whether you experienced anything other than the usual weekly return of anxieties normally associated with Mondays.

Specifically, if you consciously encountered or contemplated any long-term milestone with a sense of trepidation in the last day or so, don’t be troubled. Instead, take consolation from the fact that yesterday’s inner tension is the handle by which you may open the door to this week’s astrology.

The handle yesterday’s discomfort provided will allow you to reach within yourself. With but a little contemplation you might attain an instinctive sense of reconciliation with your place in a larger, longer scheme now — as today’s fire trine from Venus to Saturn would support your doing.

If you can but stretch to get a hold within yourself today, it will help tomorrow. For even though Mars is falling behind Venus as they both move through Aries, it is still close enough to perfect a fire trine of its own by reaching precisely 120 degrees of separation from Saturn in Sagittarius tomorrow.

Yes, trines are supposed to be easy. Without awareness, however, any aspect between Mars and Saturn might feel unduly intense. Now that you know what’s coming (and assuming your experience yesterday opened a door to understanding), you can conceivably place yourself to apply any intensity as opposed to weathering it.

Plus (and this is where seeing astrology holistically comes in really handy) when the Sun’s conjunction with Neptune peaks tomorrow, you will be able to take inspiration rather than being confused. It will be a matter of simply getting things in the right order. First, listen to your imagination. Then, act to build just a little reality on what you imagined. Just a little will do.

You need not build Rome this week. Instead, simply find your place in Rome (or its equivalent for you) as your first order of business. Then, do a little something to assert your place. Do a little for now. It will be enough.

Doing enough for now will establish a foundation to build on. Subsequent construction will be supported later by the waxing Moon. So too Mercury, which is on approach to expand your mind with a sextile to Uranus in Aries and an opposition to Jupiter in Leo.

But that’s another story (ideally your story), to be meaningfully continued.

Much Ado About Noting: Venus and Mars

Venus will conjoin Mars in the second degree of Aries at 12:13 am EST (05:13 UTC) Sunday. It will be the first of three times Venus and Mars will briefly share the same degree of the same sign this year. For two reasons, one general and one specific, the first Venus-Mars conjunction of 2015 will implicitly be better suited for taking note than for drawing conclusions.

len-wallick-logo

The general reason for noting rather than inferring over the weekend has to do with how Venus and Mars move in relation to each other from our perspective here on Earth. The specific reason to observe now and judge later corresponds with what the Sun and Neptune will be doing in relation to all three of the Venus-Mars mergers this year.

From our perspective here on Earth, it’s difficult to accurately generalize about the motions of Venus and Mars relative to each other. The difficulty has to do with the calendar most of us use.

Our 12-month civil calendar is based on the apparent motion of the Sun. Of course, it’s really Earth that orbits the Sun once a year. For all practical purposes, however, perception is reality. That’s how it usually makes more sense both to keep track of time and to do astrology based on how things look from where you actually are.

Problem is, the apparent motions of Venus and Mars relative to each other do not make sense if the civil calendar is the framework for your perceptions. For example, you might say that Venus and Mars conjoin once every two years or so, and accurately capture their pattern since 2011. But such a convenient generalization breaks down periodically. This year is just such an occasion.

Implicitly then, you should eschew convenient conclusions when Venus and Mars conjoin this weekend. Instead, make note of what transpires and how you feel about it.

Moving further into 2015, endeavor to preserve your notations from this weekend. Save your notes to see how things look from where you actually are when Venus and Mars conjoin again, smack in the middle of Leo during the last day of August (or on Sept. 1, depending on your time zone).

That way, by the time Venus and Mars reach their third merger of the year at 24+ Virgo (late on Nov. 2 in the U.S.), you will have a customized framework of their correlations with your life. As result, you should finally be able to connect some meaningful dots based on your own experience. Doing so should give you a firmer grasp on your own reality as 2015 draws to a close.

As it turns out, there yet is another reason to first note, then corroborate your perceptions as Venus and Mars conjoin. It is a reason specific to this year. For every time Venus and Mars conjoin this year, the Sun and Neptune will be in meaningful aspect to each other.

The Sun represents (among other things) conscious awareness. In other words, being wide awake, engaged, fully present and accountable. Neptune, on the other hand, often corresponds with alternative states of consciousness. That’s how the Sun and Neptune often constitute a tricky mix that bears watching more than showing.

So happens, the Sun (in Pisces since yesterday) will be closing in on a conjunction of its own — with Neptune — when Venus and Mars hook up this weekend. For that reason alone you might want to do as you will, but without the proverbial beer goggles, so as to more astutely note your circumstances going into next week.

By the same token, you may want to anticipate that the Sun will oppose Neptune rather precisely when Venus and Mars perfect their second conjunction of 2015. Finally, you can reasonably plan on having a clearer head for this year’s third coalescence of Venus and Mars by simply knowing that the Sun by that time will have safely separated from the entanglements of a trine with Neptune.

So there you have it. From astrology’s perspective, this weekend should be well worth noting. That’s probably very good, or at least very interesting news. On the whole, however, you may want to subject your notes to tests of time and subsequent correlation before drawing conclusions about (or acting on) what you perceive as reality.

Departures: Following the Second Aquarius New Moon

It appears we have recently entered a period distinguished by departure. A notable number of people and patterns have discontinued of late. For instance, a handful of well-known media personalities left their their posts for various reasons only last week. Fortunately, astrology offers a time frame to anticipate or (even better) precipitate even more departures likely to follow.

len-wallick-logo

The implied time frame begins with the second Aquarius New Moon in a row at 6:47 pm EST (23:47 UTC) Wednesday, and continues through the entire lunation (the period from one New Moon to the next) well into March.

Our first Aquarius New Moon saw the luminaries (Sun and Moon) share the very first degree of fixed air last month on Jan. 20. This week’s merger of the Sun and Moon will depart from a pattern of five consecutive luminary conjunctions in the first degree of successive signs. That pattern started with a Scorpio New Moon and solar eclipse on Oct. 23, 2014.

Instead, the Sun and Moon will briefly share the very last degree of Aquarius this week just before both depart for Pisces. Meaningfully, it will also be both Ash Wednesday and Asian lunar new year — two culturally significant points of departure in many parts of the world.

Appropriately, that new pattern will both repeat and conclude next month with yet another New Moon on March 20 in the very last degree of Pisces, just before the Aries equinox. That New Moon will also be a solar eclipse.

Until the vernal equinox, and following on the heels of tomorrow’s Aquarius New Moon, a cascade of notable departures will take place on the zodiac and in the sky. Implicitly, the events of your life will either find a way to follow suit or be made to.

Mars departs Pisces and enters Aries on Thursday. Venus makes its own departure from Pisces to ingress Aries Friday, closely followed by the Moon.

Then, this weekend Venus and Mars conjoin for the first of three times this year. It begins a remarkable departure from the usual pattern of Venus and Mars merging in the same degree of the same sign only once every other year.

Come March 3, Mercury will depart from the narrow arc of Aquarius in which it has been pacing back and forth since the beginning of 2015. (That is, it leaves its ‘echo’ or ‘shadow’ phase.)

Saturn’s station retrograde March 14 will eventually lead to its brief departure from Sagittarius in June. After taking care of several months’ worth of unfinished business in Scorpio, Saturn will return to Sagittarius for the long run in September.

Finally, on March 16 or 17 (depending on your time zone), Uranus in Aries will make the last of its seven exact square aspects (separations of 90 degrees) to Pluto in Capricorn. After that, Uranus will begin a long, drawn-out departure from Aries while permanently moving away from its three-year pattern of oft-repeated and functionally continuous squares from Pluto.

It’s all nearly enough to make you want to sing “Auld Lang Syne” for St. Patrick’s Day. But don’t plan on crying into your green beer.

Instead, you should probably contemplate how to participate with what the astrology indicates. There appears to be an entire lunation chock-full of successive departures now at hand, to be either undertaken or completed. Assuming such appearances are valid, it would probably be best if you took matters into your own hands.

At the very least, you will want to prepare for familiarity to depart. It will mean releasing attachments where appropriate. It will also and ideally mean creating new routines to replace what you had gotten used to. Even if the life pattern in question was not something you were particularly fond of.

For we tend to be creatures of habit, and even the most cursed of customs leave a vacuum that needs filling once departed. Hence, a very good reason for you to initiate departures of your own accord, so as to mindfully and intentionally replace old with better, rather than simply new.

Even as millions begin the ritual repentance of Lent, you might want to consciously choose your own abstentions rather than have some arbitrarily thrust upon you. Additionally, while millions more clean house in order to entertain not only family and friends but also a more benevolent ambiance, you might want to do some cleansing of your own.

Indeed, in some ways, tomorrow’s Aquarius New Moon might even feel something like an eclipse in advance of the real thing. Based on what is going to be happening for astrology over the next month or so, that might be a good feeling to go with. Especially so if you want to end up where you want to be, doing what you want to do when the next season auspiciously begins.

You Can’t Make This Up — Ceres Conjunct Pluto

Dwarf planet Ceres (technically “1 Ceres”) will conjoin dwarf planet Pluto Sunday at 3:17 am EST (8:17 UTC) in mid-Capricorn, just as both planets are being approached by spacecraft from Earth. Hence, even though astrology’s trickster Mercury is now returned to direct apparent motion, the sort of reality too incredible for plausible fiction continues apace.

len-wallick-logo

Ceres conjoining (sharing the same degree of the same sign with) Pluto does not imply the same sort of unbelievable drama that too often correlated with Mercury’s first retrograde of the year.

Rather, what we have is an unlikely auspiciousness. What human beings set in motion years ago has unintentionally but perhaps meaningfully synchronized with what has been in motion since long before humanity existed.

You can’t make this sort of stuff up. You can, however, apply a bit of astrology’s perspective to not only interpret it, but also figure out how you fit in.

And fit in you do. You are part of the solar system. Furthermore, as the masthead for this Planet Waves page says (and as the Planet Waves annual edition proves at length), “You Belong Here.”

One of the ways of defining a system is that any one part will provide information about any other part — even all the parts as a whole. We can begin with the tale of Pluto and Ceres. Actually, there is more than one tale to tell.

The very names Pluto and Ceres refer to a rich, complex, powerful, dramatic story from western mythology. A condensed version begins something like this: Pluto (god of the underworld) kidnapped Persephone (Ceres’ daughter) because he thought he could. It was a case of might-makes-right impunity, which has characterized so much of human history.

Ceres, a powerful Earth goddess in her own right, in effect told Pluto (and his complicit old-boy power network) “No, you can’t.” She made her point by taking Earth to the edge of destruction.

Fortunately for Earth, a compromise was worked out by which the ancients explained the seasonal cycle humanity has learned to synchronize with in order to thrive in permanent settlements at temperate latitudes. It’s such a good story (and worth your while to study in depth), one is tempted to believe that it is not entirely made up.

On another level of story, Ceres was discovered by an astronomer using a telescope on the first day of a new century: Jan. 1, 1801. Its prime numeric prefix (“1”) indicates it was the first object found in what we now call the main belt of (mostly) asteroids between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.

Pluto, for its part, was discovered in 1930 by an astronomer using a telescope equipped with a camera. The photographic images revealed an object orbiting the Sun in the cold dark of what we now call the Kuiper Belt of objects out past Neptune.

Both Ceres and Pluto have been variously classified over the years. The whole story of promotions and demotions actually says more about humanity (and our attempts to define our place in the cosmos) than it says about the objects themselves.

Pluto and Ceres just do their thing, indifferent to human drama. Indeed, one is tempted to consider the history of astronomy and its seasonal cycles of definition and re-definition as at least partly mythical in how it has unfolded.

Now, a new chapter opens. A chapter we have written ourselves into, however inadvertently. Now, however unintentionally, little robot emissaries of humanity (equipped with telescopes and cameras) are close and getting closer to sharing proximity with Ceres and Pluto at the same time — an astronomical form of conjunction when you think about it. At the same time Pluto and Ceres reach a conjunction on astrology’s zodiac.

It’s not just any astrological conjunction. It’s a merger of objects named after mythical rivals who duked it out toe-to-toe while denizens of heaven and Earth trembled. It’s a merger of objects that have been put through a gamut of definitions, arriving at their current classifications at the same time in the same space. It’s a drama coming full circle to begin again.

You can’t make that sort of stuff up. It is as if humanity is moving beyond the synchronicity with the seasons we achieved long ago. It is as though we are now moving through the auspices of our mechanical and electronic manifestations to synchronize with something more — the system we call solar.

And since you are undeniably part of the solar system, there will be an implicit meaning for you when Ceres merges symbolic energies with Pluto on Sunday. It will be a sign, plain and simple — one for which only you can provide the final interpretation as an expression of your place where you have always belonged.

As Ceres and Pluto await their respective close-ups, it’s plain to see that you have both some thinking to do, and some doing to think about. There’s something going on which you could never simply make up, and you are here, unavoidably conjoined with it. If the whole scenario makes you feel real big and real small at the same time, maybe that’s the point.
