Keep your aim in sight, and remember that the point is to get there rather than moving above a certain speed. Haste without deliberation may result in your needing to retrace steps; instead, plan your route carefully, and draw as much information as you can from all sources. There will likely be moments when you have a clear road in front of you; at these times, you should be fine to forge ahead.

As we approach Saturday’s Taurus New Moon (which is smack-dab in the Beltane zone), the Sun makes a rather auspicious aspect to help you warm up for any weekend festivities. Specifically, the Sun is conjunct Lempo, an asteroid rather recently named for the ancient Finnish goddess of fire and fertility. (You can read a little more about her here and also here.) Get fired up — but if you’re not actually planning to celebrate your fertility by making full use of it, do remember to use a condom (that is, if you’re in a hetero situation and not honoring the goddess on your own).

Today’s sky also features a square between Mercury in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn. This looks like a reminder to beware of obsessive thoughts (possibly sexy thoughts in particular — channel that energy physically rather than getting stuck in your head about it). When dealing with others, try to keep an open mind in important matters. Do you really need to coerce someone to your point of view, or can you let them have their opinion? If you can use this energy to get introspective about hidden parts of your psychology, you may reap a deeper awareness that’s truly useful.

Breath and Butterflies, Blue and Beltane

By Amanda Painter

On Saturday, we have a New Moon right at the midpoint of Taurus — the Beltane zone, when the ancient Pagans celebrated the fertility of the Earth by having sex out in the fields. I’m supposed to tell you all about this interesting chart, and I will; but to be honest, I’m still ruminating on some of the events and recurring themes I encountered last week while I was away, during the Sun’s first conjunction to Uranus in Taurus.

So if you’ll pardon the indulgence, I’m going to start there and will make my leisurely way to the astrology. You know how a Taurus hates to be rushed.

With the gracious support of my Planet Waves colleagues, I was just immersed in a weeklong intensive class in Orkney, Scotland — a particular method for freeing the breath and voice for theater — taught by its 83-year-old originator (and fellow Taurean) Kristin Linklater. It was a rather spontaneous opportunity, though it built upon my 2018 trip there for the same purpose.

During last year’s class, Uranus — “The Awakener,” the cosmic sparkplug — made its preliminary ingress into Taurus. During my trip this year, the Sun made its first of its annual conjunctions to Uranus in Taurus between now and 2025. I already knew before I got the email for the class (three weeks before it started) that it was exactly the way I wanted to return to the sense of ‘being in process’ that had marked last spring; the moment I noticed the Sun-Uranus conjunction would be occurring, it was like a bell rang.

Reconsider your ideas as to what is and is not possible, and make room for approaches other than the solely pragmatic. That is to say: do not dismiss a hoped-for or intended outcome on the basis of what seems achievable in this moment. Take confidence from what you have accomplished in the past, and from your sense of devotion to what is truly important. You have both the passion and the capability you need to make it happen.

Can you take some initiative today with tasks that require discipline and a lot of mental energy? Mercury is making aspects to Mars and Saturn today that suggest this course of action could prove effective. The more you can own the project and your efforts, the more likely you are to enjoy the benefits. This may mean focusing on a personal goal or project first, to generate a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. After that, moving on to the obligations you have to others could feel a little easier.

Also note that we’re in Beltane territory — the ancient Pagan holiday associated with honoring the fertility of the Earth, which occurs when the Sun reaches the middle of Taurus. Plus, May is Masturbation Month. So how do you want to get your freak on? Venus conjunct Vesta in Aries today may be signaling an ‘unorthodox’ sexual relationship or encounter, but could also be prime energy for ‘tending your hearth’ solo, if you know what I mean. The Moon entering Aries is a reminder to watch impulsiveness — especially with your temper or libido, if either one is feeling the heat. There are plenty of ways to express both energies that take their impact and potential consequences into account, without bottling them up.

Watch for insights regarding your vocation or mission in the most profound and spiritual sense of those terms. You may experience a flash of intuition, which reveals a pattern underlying various events and features of your life. This is likely to be drawing you in a specific direction in terms of what to do next. Verifying whatever information you receive will be useful; meanwhile, keep your mind open, and leave room for more details to emerge gradually.

With Venus and Vesta in Aries making a trine to Ceres in Sagittarius, there’s some serious goddess fire on tap. Your inner flame — be it creative, sexual or simply your joie de vivre — may feel like a warm, nourishing undercurrent to the day. Perhaps try tending to it directly (such as with some kind of solo activity, though sharing the love — or lust — might feel similarly enriching; just bear in mind that Venus in Aries can come on a bit strong).

If you want to take things to the proverbial next level, you might consider how this energy connects to your overall healing journey. The centaur Chiron is conjunct the asteroid Salacia today, focusing the issue one way or another. How is your awareness being drawn to some facet of your sexual experience, or your sense of identity as a sexual-yet-spiritual being? Notice your feelings about it, and take some notes or make some art in response. Chiron tends to reward documentation, and Aries is the sign of ‘get started’. So what are you waiting for?

Today the Sun makes its first annual conjunction to Uranus in Taurus for this era. Are you in any kind of conscious process of becoming right now? If not, or if you feel something like that got interrupted or suspended last year, it’s possible this aspect may act like jumper cables to get you up and running. That said, it might not come through in the most convenient way; Uranus is known for being ‘revolutionary’ — which for most people (who are not instigating the revolution), means disruptive.

Yet Taurus is not a sign known for its enjoyment of sudden changes to routine, or of change simply for the sake of something different. Here’s the thing, though: most Taureans I know have a very strong sense of their core values. And if they become aware of a need to adjust in order to better express and serve those values, they can get very determined about moving in that direction.

You don’t have to be a Taurus to tap into that, however; you just need to feel how the ground is shifting, and then respond in the way that feels truest — and yet new — for you. Today’s Moon in Sagittarius should help you to access some extra optimism and flexibility if needed. Venus square Pholus is a reminder that even modest acts can express your emotions, desire, or pursuit of someone — and generate an effect.

There’s already a gathering of energy at your back, and you only need to steer in the direction you want. Your connections with the divine (or your higher self) and with the collective unconscious may prove invaluable guides. Listen carefully, and take in all the information offered you. It’s a busy day astrologically; can you feel it? Three significant objects changing signs in one day is a signal to feel for a distinct change in tone — in this case, your relationships and your body (or how you feel about both, as they intersect) could to be a focus. Sex, sexual expression and sexual secrets are also on the agenda.

Here’s what’s up: The Sun enters Taurus today, moving us into the heart of the season — and urging you to feel your body and express its needs and sensations, in according to your core values. With Uranus nearby, surprising new directions in these areas become likely. Can you roll with it? Later in the day, Venus — the planet ruling Taurus — itself moves into Aries. This may assist you in being more direct with your passion, though take note: Venus is also moving into aspect with planets that describe awareness of ‘old material’. Sex is a classic repository for repression, projection and generational secrets, so tread lightly, especially if you’re feeling fired up.

Mercury is in the mix, too, getting your head into the game with your heart and body. Pay attention to where your thoughts are directed. Finally, the asteroid Juno enters Cancer today. This looks like an enhanced need for emotional intimacy and attention. Can you offer that as much as you need to receive it from someone? With Juno also in contact with Venus, Mercury and their compatriots, be alert for any feelings of co-dependency. Stating your emotional needs directly should help to circumvent any temptation to slide into unintentional manipulation.

Prepare to follow through on an idea, or a project you’ve recently begun. This would seem to be an optimal moment for keeping a steady rhythm and focusing on getting things done. As the Moon leaves Aries and enters Taurus today, you may find you’re better able to channel some energy into more steady efforts toward a new project or goal. The day could come with a surprise or two, as the first major aspect the Moon makes in Taurus is a brief conjunction to Uranus (exact at 12:09 in the afternoon EDT / 4:09 pm UTC for those who like to track these things). Where are you being called to exercise some extra flexibility today? Emotional resiliency in particular may come in handy — as in, not camping out in your initial reaction if you experience a disruption. Finances, use or acquisition of material objects, your sense of security, your body and senses, and the enjoyment of art are a few areas that stand out as a potential focus. If you have yet to file your taxes, today looks particularly suited for making tangible, consistent progress toward completing them.

Remember that integrity is your best friend. You seem to have a good deal of energy focused on you, and may draw various people toward you in the near future. Make sure the relationships you form, of any sort, are healthy and constructive for you and for everyone else involved. That starts with surrounding yourself with honest, compassionate people, who are likely to bring forward your best and brightest qualities.

Written for the Planets

We’re officially in a new season, and last night’s Libra Full Moon is starting to dissipate. Yet with such a potent setup to start the Sun’s time in Aries, chances are you’re still feeling the reverberations. Continue to give yourself a little delay before replying to any recent communications that might have raised your dander and defenses the last couple days. We’re in “small cause, big effect” territory through the weekend, thanks to the fiery Aries Sun’s impending square to the centaur Pholus in Capricorn. On top of that, Mercury is still very much retrograde in Pisces, and very much conjunct Neptune — indicating potentially imprecise thinking, possible emotional reactivity in communication, and an inability to see clearly the truth of a situation (including the emotional truth).

On top of that, today’s square between Venus in Aquarius and Mars in Taurus could be kicking up some inner tension. That might simply play out as a spike in arousal, including toward someone new. But it could also indicate discord in relationships where there’s hidden or frustrated sexual energy. Venus in Aquarius describes the potential for this to rear up in a friendship where there’s unspoken attraction, rather than with an established lover or someone you’re actively pursuing. Does that Aquarian influence help to cool things off and make it more of an intellectual exercise, or does it just make it weirder? How does that align with what your body’s telling you? If you have the opportunity to express this energy sexually (whether solo or with a partner), it’s possible that taking your time with the sensuality of it while experimenting a little might yield the most satisfying results.
