By the time you read this, we will have just experienced two notable peaks of energy: the Capricorn Full Moon, and the conjunction of Venus and Jupiter in Leo (which you can see with your own eyes in the sky at dusk). Both were exact yesterday, July 1, but the energy is still rippling out — and that energy is feeding into a third aspect: one that is prompting you to make a decision.

First, though, the Venus-Jupiter conjunction is a story with legs. Venus is gearing up to retrograde in a few weeks, which means that, by the time it is done with that process, it will have conjoined Jupiter a total of three times.

Venus conjunct Jupiter is generally viewed as a very fortunate, beauty-filled and ‘lucky’ aspect — though as with all things Jupiter is involved with, you can expect to have to provide your own follow-through to capitalize on the mojo.

This week, with the first conjunction still in effect, it’s a good time to put yourself out there in the public sphere. Don’t be shy about showing what you’re worth.

With the second conjunction on Aug. 4 (also in Leo), when Venus is retrograde, you might encounter something that feels like a reversal, a step backwards or some other form of reconsideration connected to what you’ve put into motion. Don’t’ despair. The boat has not sailed without you; you’re just getting an opportunity to see where you need to shore up your efforts, redirect them, or otherwise align better with your highest values.

A Different Facet of Experience — and Your Moonshine Horoscopes

Planet Waves is running a membership drive.
Read more in Solstice Fire and the Art of Service, by Eric Francis.

Dear Friend and Reader:

Tomorrow is the Capricorn Full Moon: this is when the Cancer Sun opposes the Moon in Capricorn. This year, the Capricorn Full Moon happens less than 24 hours after Venus and Jupiter make their first in a series of conjunctions (thanks to the upcoming Venus retrograde).

Essentially, that makes the Full Moon and Venus-Jupiter one event, though it is multi-layered. Planet Waves offers several ways for you to get the feel for this astrology and work with it productively, mentioned further down this letter.

We’re able to offer such a wealth of diverse material, which assists thousands of people around the world daily, thanks to our paying members; if you are reading this, you may be one, and we are grateful that your involvement allows us to serve such a wide audience.

If you have not yet signed up for Planet Waves membership, please consider joining here through one of our sliding-scale options. We take the Art of Service seriously, in all of its many forms, and I hope you do, too.

Now, as for this week’s astrology: Len Wallick has written today’s Moonshine horoscopes for the Full Moon. Len writes these horoscopes for your Moon sign (there’s a link on the horoscopes page to help you figure out yours), but you can also read them for your Sun and rising sign to see how they resonate. Self-Care is Sexy-Care When Relationships Are Balanced

By Amanda Painter

Did you know that self-care is sexy, healthy, genuinely loving, and can actually enhance your relationships? Yes, there are certain circumstances in which self-sacrifice is ‘the right thing to do’ and serves the highest good for all involved. But it’s easy to romanticize self-sacrifice to the point of self-harm — and ultimately, that isn’t good for you or your relationships.

Note that ‘self-sacrifice’ is not the idea behind true service. It does not serve humanity to turn yourself inside out, caring for everyone else but not for yourself.

The Art of Service is a conscious exchange; one in which an individual or organization offers something to assist others (and humanity as a whole) on their path — but not to their own detriment. As you know, Planet Waves has been built in service of the healing and growth of all who visit here.

To complete the exchange of energy, wherein we offer materials to assist you in your self-care, I am asking you to consider becoming a Core Community member of Planet Waves through one of the options here.

Our members take the place of advertisers; without members, we could not provide the service of this website and all that you read and listen to here. When you become a subscribing member or purchase a birthday reading or the annual, you ensure that Planet Waves can continue to run a website with free content.

In terms of the question of sacrifice or care in your own life, this weekend’s astrology says you have a choice. You have chance to reset the balance in this equation if it’s gone askew in your life.

Here’s the scene: the Sun in Cancer (with Mars nearby) is entering into a T-square with the Moon’s South Node (in Aries) and North Node (in Libra). This T-square is exact Saturday. Without getting too technical, the Moon’s nodes are hypothetical points related to its orbit; they also indicate eclipses when a Full Moon and New Moon happen near them.

Navigating the Last Mercury-Neptune Square

Dear Friend and Reader:

The Sun is now a few degrees into Cancer, and Mars is about to join it there tomorrow. The traffic light has turned green and is urging forward movement, yet you’ll still want to go easy on the gas pedal this week.

The reason is that Mercury, though direct, is still working its way through a tricksy shadow (or echo) phase in Gemini. And today it makes its third exact square to Neptune in Pisces as part of its retrograde process, at 2:08 pm EDT (18:08 UTC).

As Eric has noted, Mercury and Neptune have really been in one very long square, thanks to Mercury’s reversals of apparent motion. This is astrology that asks you to pay attention, particularly to how honest you’re being with yourself.

As a result of the square repeating, themes of integrity, honesty/denial and “knowing when you don’t know” keep presenting themselves for review and integration. This may include various emotional/cognitive patterns from the distant past, such as childhood or familial relationships — especially the more slippery ones.

If you like to track the peaks and patterns of repeated astrological events in your life, here are the dates of the three exact Mercury-Neptune squares so you can check your journal or calendar: May 9 (with Mercury direct); May 29 (Mercury retrograde); and today, June 23 (Mercury direct).

Eric will be covering the major events of this week’s sky in Planet Waves FM, though the program will post to the website tomorrow by 5:00 pm EDT, rather than today.

He wrote about the “two-stage solstice” we’re experiencing in Monday’s Astrology Diary, noting that Mars ingressing Cancer tomorrow plus Mercury-Neptune today may come with “the sensation of slipping out of something, waking up or some drug wearing off — one you didn’t know you took.”

Elsewhere on the Planet Waves website, Fe Bongolan tries to work through the grief and ideas about American racism in the aftermath of last week’s church shooting in Charleston in her column this week.

In a similar vein, Amanda Moreno also notes that in the context of more collective tragedy, the need for a shared emotional container (provided by retrograde Saturn in Scorpio) is ever more clear.

Sarah Taylor’s tarot reading describes emerging from a place of (perceived) defeat and into the potential to build something that can support both you and others. And Judith Gayle affirms that if voices are being raised against one another, it means the thin veneer of falsehood that existed is disappearing, and we’re getting to the heart of the matter — though it’s a difficult road.

Note that depending on when you visit the website, you might need to click the “Older posts” link at the bottom of the page to get to some of these articles. To read them, you’ll need to be signed into the website. Email us at cs@planetwaves.net if you have questions.

Also, Saturday, we republished one of Eric’s classic articles on sex and relationships, titled Organic Love: An Ecology of Sustainable Relationship. In it, he offers a few ideas about how we might go about creating organic love. Later today, Len Wallick covers Mars ingressing Cancer in his column, which will publish after noon EDT.

Yours & truly,

Amanda Painter

Cancer Solstice: Summer’s Big Picture

Sunday, June 21, is the Cancer solstice — also known as the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, where I live. This is the longest day of the year here (shortest day Down Under), and the start of a new season no matter where you live.

People in my part of the world tend to think of summer as the ‘free and easy’ season, thanks to the amenable weather and memories of childhood summers off.

But in all honestly, how often have you over-scheduled and overextended yourself, racing to make the most of summer fun, only to find yourself exhausted and wondering when you’ll get to slow down and enjoy the season?

In the process, how much fun do you actually have? How often have you told yourself you’ll do things differently next year?

The Sun ingresses Cancer at 12:38 pm EDT Sunday (16:38 UTC). From now through then, Mars in late Gemini will be in opposition to the center of our Milky Way galaxy. (Mars opposite Galactic Core is exact Saturday.)

You can think of the Galactic Core (GC) as the ‘spiritual homing signal’ in astrology. It is vast, and it speaks of a deeper and wider perspective on existence; one Eric Francis described earlier this week as “not normally available while staring at a row of buildings or gas pumps.” The energy of the GC can be difficult to pin down and identify, compared to something like Mars or the Moon.

If you’ve ever had that feeling like something you’ve encountered really means something profound but you’re not sure just what, or like you are part of something larger and more loving than you could ever articulate, that’s how I sometimes think of it.

An Invisible Wave Sweeps Through

Dear Friend and Reader:

New Moons tend to be rather quiet, internal events in our experience of them, unlike Full Moons. This morning’s Gemini New Moon, which was exact at 10:05 am EDT (14:05 UTC) may have felt more expressive to you — even if you have difficulty articulating the message that’s coming through; Mercury is, after all, still shaking off its recent retrograde, and many people I know are wrestling with the related challenges.

Eric touched on a primary reason why this New Moon feels a little different in Monday’s Astrology Diary: Not only are the Sun and Moon aligned opposite the Galactic Core, which is the central ‘homing signal’ of our galaxy, but feisty Mars is also closely conjunct the Sun and Moon. Eric wrote, “This can feel like an invisible wave rising, and describe some event that has a wide and sweeping influence.”

On Planet Waves FM, Eric will cover this morning’s Gemini New Moon with a detailed look at that chart. In the second half of the program he will play his interview with Eric McLuhan on the currently unfolding renaissance. Eric McLuhan is the son of media theorist Marshall McLuhan. This will be published a bit earlier in the day than FM usually runs.

Publishing Schedule change

Hello! Just wanted to let you know that I was unable to find and prepare a worthy sex-and-relationships post for today. But I wanted to point you back to the fascinating, complex discussion that is still evolving under Eric’s piece from Monday. As Mercury begins slowly separating from its near-miss square to Nessus in Pisces, I suspect insights on the themes identified will continue to emerge. (The comments were up to 52 last time I checked!)

Also, I wanted to remind readers that I welcome suggestions of websites, writers and individual articles you’ve seen on the topics of sex and/or relationships (of all types) that you think deserved to be featured on Planet Waves. Thank you! — Amanda P.

Using Your Tools of Awareness: Mercury Stations Direct

By Amanda Painter

Mercury stations direct in Gemini today, June 11, at 6:33 pm EDT (22:33 UTC). While this signals smoother flying is ahead, it could take a few days (even a couple of weeks) for you to get past the turbulence, as Mercury clears the degrees where it has been retrograde. Yet today is special, if you’re willing to pause and pay attention.

That’s because Mercury stationing direct often comes with some kind of ‘a-ha’ moment for people: an insight or piece of information that completes part of the puzzle. It’s easy not to notice if you haven’t consciously decided to notice, though; and that can be tough to do amidst the confusions and frustrations of a Mercury retrograde.

When Mercury stations direct today, it will be in close aspect to two important planets: a loose-but-longterm square to Neptune in Pisces; and a square to centaur Nessus in Pisces, off by only one degree. Mercury’s also conjunct a rarely-used asteroid.

Eric wrote an in-depth post about the Mercury-Neptune-Nessus configuration earlier this week. Touching on some themes he brought up: Neptune, especially in Pisces, is lending a numinous, veiled or unreal/deniable quality to your awareness currently.
