Jupiter Retrograde and the Chaos Factor

Dear Friend and Reader:

Jupiter stations retrograde tonight, in Scorpio, the ancient sign of sex. And sex has certainly been in the news lately, only it’s taken some strange forms, and there is intrigue and chaos on many other levels.

Original Caption from Instagram: “fightthenewdrug last weekend our co-founder @clayolsen presented to the @kcroyals players and coaches. The Royals are the first #MLB team to actively take a stand against porn, and we’re inspired that they’re stepping up to the plate. #pornkillslove #fightforlove.” The first comment reads, “I’m in awe at how dumb this is. Imagine your day job is talking to grown men about whether or not they should watch porn.” The guys are being very polite.

The most interesting thing about Jupiter’s move to retrograde motion (which lasts through July 10) is that it’s in an aspect to Eris in Aries. When a planet changes apparent directions, it holds its position for a while, and Jupiter and Eris are in a 150-degree angle, called a quincunx.

It’s linking planets placed in two Mars-ruled signs, and at the moment Mars is big, conjunct the Galactic Core (exact Monday).

We live in the age of Eris, which induces chaos in psyche and culture in part through advances in communication technology. It’s easy to forget that just about everything we experience as information comes through TV and the internet.

News on the topic of sex has been so weird, it has been difficult to notice. Chaos is in the air. We’re in the midst of the fifty shades of scandal that are brewing as the wheels, axels, fenders, bumpers and doors are coming off of the executive branch of the federal government.

Top presidential advisors are quitting the White House on an almost daily basis. High officials lack security clearance, beat up their wives and sell their influence abroad, and the guilty pleas related to the Russia investigation have been flowing. (Going against the trend, former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, however, pleaded not guilty on Thursday to additional charges related to financial fraud. His former longtime assistant Richard Gates has pleaded guilty and will testify against him.)

Monday Morning Horoscope for March 5, 2018

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Don’t be afraid to have your life be all about you. It is, no matter what you do, even if you generously offer yourself to others. And this you’ve been doing for a while, with your ruling planet Mars expressing itself in its most selfless way possible, conjunct Vesta and moving through spiritually focused Sagittarius. However, you have your plans; you have ideas; you want to experiment; and all those things call for making sure that you honor your priorities. Yet, on a deeper level, remember that all of your experiences are yours, no matter what they may seem to be about. The best metaphor is when people play music together. The sounds you’re making are about what you’re feeling, though it helps immensely if you’re in harmony with the people around you. Then sometimes you leap out and fly solo. That is what your charts look like this week.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — For the past few weeks, you’ve been both social and creative, way out in the open where people can see you. Gradually, over the next two weeks, your orientation will turn inward. You might not notice this at first, though you might want to honor the process by being a little ahead of yourself, and making sure you take sufficient time alone — no matter what else you may be doing the rest of the time. This time of year (many years) is great for experimenting with who you present yourself as being in the world, what you reveal, and what you keep to yourself. Done well, this is an intricate balance of an inner and an outer life. A great many well-known people lose themselves in their public persona. You’re too sensitive for that. You will feel better when you go beyond the dual orientation. There is no public and there is no private: there is just life.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Keep your finger on the pulse of important professional developments. Sometimes when you’ve worked for a goal for a long time, it’s possible to lose track of what you’re doing at the very end of the process. It’s possible to lose your sense of purpose, or your contact with what was guiding you through the long journey. Please don’t make that error. Stay in touch with what’s motivating you, dial in your original plans and intentions, and verify that you’re still on track. Also, beware of double endings. Don’t declare the job done or the goal accomplished until long after you’ve finished and moved on, even if you receive some acknowledgement or accolade. Beginnings and endings are sensitive, and must be handled carefully if you’re going to make lasting progress. One way to stay grounded is to identify with your responsibilities more than with your reputation. You have a job to do and you do it well — no more, no less.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — The less you say, the less it will feel like nobody believes you. You’ve figured out what is true, both about yourself and about a particular matter you’ve been investigating. This may have involved something worldly or spiritual; you pretty much know the truth, and you’ve accomplished something unusual. Play that down for now; let your discovery speak for itself. Over the next few days, planets will begin moving from Pisces to Aries, and in the process, making their way into your house of achievement and reputation. This will last well into March, and through that time, it would be a wise policy to be seen for who you are, rather than saying too much about who you are. When you have to send out a press release or inform the world that you’ve done something, make it sound like it was no big deal and all in a day’s work. You are, as usual, happy to be of service.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Over the past few weeks, you’ve been working through a deeply sensitive situation with a close partner or loved one. As this process has unfolded, you’ve had your doubts and your revelations. You’ve discovered secrets you were keeping from yourself, and you’ve come to understand something about the nature of intimacy. It would be fair to say that the true purpose of this journey has been a healing process, though it’s also been about learning how to be open to giving and receiving love and emotional nourishment. As planets move into your fellow fire sign Aries, you might be inclined to forget what you’ve experienced. Yet you must be cautious never to take anyone or anything for granted. Emotional bonds remain fragile and sensitive, and it’s too easy to let that slip your mind. Focus on the importance of trust, and remember, you’re not in this alone.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — The past week has taken you through some sensitive territory where your relationships are concerned. Where do you stand with the people you’re closest to? Can you really tell? Sometimes intimacy is like a kaleidoscope. You constantly get a different view, and there’s no point wondering what the real one is. However, as the week unfolds, you’re likely to feel more confident about recent developments. Part of that feeling stems from the fact that many discoveries and discussions are behind you, and you’ve sorted out most of the important issues. You do need to remember the extent to which you find yourself by investing yourself into relationships. This is entirely legitimate, though it comes with the risk of losing your personal footing when a relationship changes. The way to stay ahead of that is to do the Zen thing and truly appreciate the ethereal and transient nature of existence.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — The emphasis of your solar chart remains on self-care. Yours is one of the signs most sensitive to your environment, particularly at work. And you’re someone whose emotions and state of physical health are intimately related. If you experience an emotional disturbance or tension, that can manifest immediately in physical symptoms that seem to be of mysterious origin. This suggests that you must stay in contact with your environment. Over the next few days, beware of anyone who seems to be demanding too much of your attention. Rather than pushing back, gently sidestep those who are too pushy or who feel entitled to your energy. This may give you some clues about what you need to do with the situation in the long run, so be sure you remember what you’ve experienced, so you can evaluate it later. Meanwhile, easy does it, and drink enough water.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — One interesting quality of your charts over the next few seasons is that the line between work and play is blurred. The two seem to merge into one another, which will take many forms; one is likely to be discovering how much you love your work. You have to identify with what you do. When you say, “I am a [fill in the blank], there should be no odd feeling about it. So one quality of these transits will be to encourage just that connection with your work. Another manifestation could be a loving relationship with a creative partner or work colleague. I know that these are often frowned upon, and they do call for maturity and true devotion, both personal and professional. But they are some of the most relevant, healing, and happy relationships, especially if people respect one another, and know how to give one another space. These are helpful skills any day of the week.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Rather than telling someone how much you love them, show them. Words will not be so believable; actions will convey the impression you want to give. Offer yourself with genuine abandon and make sure you have fun doing it. Most of your personality consists of an adventurous side, and though you’ve been a bit reserved lately, and likely focused on some work-related activity, re-focus your energy on home, particularly the kitchen and the bedroom, the two most important rooms in any home (the bathroom is a given, and it can be an interesting place). As for work, you’ve devoted yourself plenty to one particular project, and you’ve done brilliantly; now you can shift the focus to something of a creative nature that has some deep personal meaning to you. If you ever wanted to transform into an artist, or have your artwork burst to life, this is the week to start that fire.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Pisces is your sign of self-expression, and that’s one of the places where planets are gathering now — in a most interesting way, involving Chiron, the planet of healing and awareness. Another gathering point is in your sign (particularly Saturn and Pluto), so you have plenty to express. We’re about to go through a series of new transits, which begin this week and reach about two weeks out, and this scenario will last for a while. Once you’re there, you will be wondering what you were thinking and feeling right now; so I suggest you leave yourself a time capsule, in the form of journal entries, photos and maybe even voice or music recordings. When planets move into Aries and make a series of squares to Saturn in your sign, you will want those artifacts as a source of inspiration, and a reminder of what you’re capable of feeling.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — By now you see a need to be more financially independent, and to have your sources of income somewhat removed from emotional attachments. While there is no actual “independence” in the world of finance — even the very wealthy depend on banks and investment houses — it’s possible to live in a more integrated way, and draw your sustenance from a diversity of sources. It’s also important to remember that all of your income ultimately flows from your creativity. This is not true of everyone, or of all charts, though yours indicates this in bold terms. The challenge is transporting and transforming the energy from the state of pure idea through a series of steps that result in paid work that’s connected to who you truly are inside, what you care about, and what you believe is relevant. However, that’s actually how your energy system works; all you need to do is observe yourself.

Full Moon Door: Your Pisces Reading is Ready

Dear Fellow Pisces, Pisces Rising or Pisces Lover:

It’s been a crazy busy week — finishing The Art of Becoming, keeping up with horoscopes and playing investigative reporter — but I just had to do the Pisces birthday reading tonight.

Planet Waves
From your fellow Pisces, Eric Francis.

That is now ready for instant access, at the pre-order price (till Friday evening, when it goes up to $44, and then stops at $66).

My job is to provide encouragement, reassurance, and actual information about your transits. I do my best to provide just that.

This is a mellow, but detailed, reading, which starts with a long discussion of relationships and the need to be discerning. This is directly related to claiming your full value in the world, and feeling good about yourself: what some call self-esteem.

I expound on two different interpretations of the Virgo Full Moon — one based on my own writeup in the Daily News, and for contrast, the other based on Sally Brompton’s interpretation in The New York Post.

From there, I talk about the ingress of planets from water sign Pisces to fire sign Aries, which in the coming days will include Mercury and Venus, then Chiron.

In the second segment I talk mainly about career, profession and community involvement — this is a discussion of Saturn from Sagittarius into Capricorn.

There is plenty more. You can get a personal reading from me lasting 75 minutes for $555 — or a reading I would be very happy to get, 75 minutes for $33. Get instant access now.

Thank you for your business, and for trusting me as your astrologer.

With love,
eric
P.S. The Art of Becoming is now ready. This reading is a very detailed report on Chiron moving from Pisces to Aries, among other things. You can get individual signs here.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Your chart is still reverberating from last week’s Full Moon in your opposite sign Virgo. The Sun is now at the midpoint of Pisces, and is still close to Neptune, which is providing you with energy and motivation. And as of Monday, there remains a triple conjunction of Mercury, Venus and Chiron in your sign. You have plenty to work with, and you’re deeply connected to your inner sources of ideas and inspiration. Beginning this week, planets will be shifting into Aries, which represents your ability to finance your life and your projects, and also your sense of belonging in the world. The two are closely related. While Pisces is sometimes depicted as the sign least able to function in the world, a careful look at your solar chart makes a rather different point. Everything about you, including your sensitivity, your love of beauty and your clairvoyant quality, are all perfectly suited to grow and thrive in the world at this genuinely strange time.

Art of Becoming: Twentieth Annual Readings Complete

Dear Friend and Reader:

Sunday afternoon, wrapping up your Capricorn reading in The Art of Becoming, I noticed it felt a little strange writing the annual reading on a warm day. Since 1998, my annuals have been written through many cold days with low clouds, and long nights, and Christmas Eves and Thanksgiving weekends — in places that include Paris, Brussels and Vashon Island.

Monday Morning Horoscope for Feb. 26, 2018

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — It’s good to honor the mystery that is your life. Existence on our planet comes with far more uncertainty than it does assurance. We have no idea how we actually got here; all we have are a bunch of made-up stories. Short of certainty, or false certainty, it’s healthy to stand face-to-face with the mystery of who you are. This will soften the edges of your personality. Your false confidence will soften into a gentle kind of assurance, and you will be less defensive. Your life is a gift to you, though we don’t know from whom. If you live that way, you’ll be more conscious of receiving the gift and taking a positive approach to existence, and a helpful approach to your fellow humans. There’s that aspect of life that’s all about you, and the other, more pervasive idea that life is about existence, which you get to experience.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — When there are lots of planets in Pisces, life is usually good for Taurus. Pisces is the 11th house of Taurus, the house of what you might call “all good things.” Right now, Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Juno, Neptune, Chiron and many smaller points are in Pisces, which is your house associated with the people you care about, and the good things in life. This is the time of year to be out among your community, to make new friends and to try on new ways of being. As the Northern Hemisphere starts to warm up again, it’s time to get outside the house and into the woods or your garden or out for a walk next to the river. Though you are good at customizing your digs, you’re not an indoor person at heart, so get your hands into the dirt or at least some fresh air into your lungs.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — This is a great week to make headway on career plans, especially if you’re in a creative line of work, or want to be in one. Though Gemini is ridiculously adaptable, your natural tendency is toward creating art, love and beauty. Your idea of power is the ability to help people. This is associated with having Pisces on your house associated with achievement, reputation and responsibility. Now, one thing you should know is that success in the style of Pisces is not the usual kind of thing we see in a capitalist country. You have much more interest in collective progress than most people, and you don’t see your success as necessarily competing with that of someone else. So you need your own concept, and you have your options open. I would propose that you aspire to the life of a dog: bring out your passion for participation, service and community.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — You have the power to guide events and developments in the direction of wholeness and stability. Let any blips or misunderstandings give you ideas for just how you can make your life a better place. Now is the time to enact certain long-standing plans and intentions that the busy world has made difficult to engage. With the Sun and many planets traveling through the most visionary angle of your solar chart, you are blessed, and you can claim that as a resource. You stand a better chance of success in enterprises with long odds than you usually do, and if you’re reminded today of a goal or aspiration that you’ve long set aside, make some moves to put it into action. This is likely to involve international travel, a publishing project or an endeavor you consider art or pleasure for its own sake (clothing optional).

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Not everyone is into sex. If you are, particularly the deep and intimate kind (or whatever you want the very most), you’re likely to be able to create that for yourself, if it doesn’t create itself for you. Speak to those for whom this would be an appropriate discussion. Wade through a little embarrassment if you have to; that will only make it better. Note that the way your chart is set up, these experiences might not enter your life “the usual way” — rather, the “unusual way” is more likely to be the one. That said, if you have no interest in anything erotic, your chart is set up perfectly for that thing known as sublimation — transferring or reassigning sexual energy into something creative, like embroidery. If you do that, just make sure it’s what you really want. Opportunities like you have now don’t arrive often.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — From the look of your solar chart, everyone wants to marry you. Proposals should be coming in like bouquets of flowers flying toward the stage during a curtain call on opening night at the opera. Tinder, Grindr and OurTime crashed and needed to be reinstalled. However, you cannot always take what astrology says literally. It’s true that your relationship house is populated with so many planets you should have no problem getting at least some attention — as in, very positive attention. If you’re in a committed relationship, you might at least expand your social horizons. If you’re in one of those situations where commitment means avoiding socializing with even a potential suitor, you might consider the true, underlying nature of that jealousy. What your chart really is saying is: have fun with people. Be bold about having actual, face-to-face conversations where you say something, and learn something.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — This may be one of those weeks when you wish you didn’t have a job. If you love what you do, and look forward to coming to work (breaking news — these people exist), this will be a positively lavish week for getting things done, beautifying the office, and clearing up old, lingering business. It’s worth reminding Libras on a regular basis that you need to be one of these people who shows up every day someplace you actually like to be. This is far more important than having power or making a lot of money — if your happiness, health and sanity matter to you. Every chart element that describes your career and profession comes back to this theme: working in a caring, nurturing environment. Starting where you are, do your part to make it so. Put beauty into whatever you handle. Be a font of good vibes, and help people get through their challenging days.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Yours is a water sign, and like your cousins Cancer and Pisces, you feel better when the tide comes in, and there’s a little rain. And right now all three water signs have their cisterns full. One fact of Scorpio is that it benefits from an abundance of Pisces, which you have now on two accounts: Jupiter (the ruler of Pisces) is in your sign, and six other planets are in Pisces. That adds up to a bold invitation to set your worries aside and to have some fun. Do what gives you pleasure, hang out with people whose company you adore, and dive into your creativity. If you feel a touch of “should I really be doing this?” then you’re headed in the right direction; you will benefit greatly from overcoming any pleasure anxiety you might feel. Where work and projects are concerned, remember: a little creativity saves a lot of effort.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — You have an unusual event happening in your sign right now: a conjunction between Mars and the asteroid Vesta. This uncommon pairing brings together the planet of action, assertion, aggression and self-serving acts, with an asteroid related to taking some distance from your passion. Vesta’s influence is often about doing things for their ‘higher purpose’ or some purpose other than what is obvious. You might need to stand guard over someone else’s interests, such as their privacy, or their business affairs. You may need to hold open the space for the right thing to happen, which is a form of protecting others. Set aside your personal desires and let your energy and choices be directed toward selfless service. This conjunction would seem to indicate there’s something specific that needs your attention, knowledge and warrior energy. Take up the task; your personal agenda will not suffer for helping someone else.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — You need dependable ways to vent steam: physical energy, ideas, creativity, sexual desire, anger and every other form of passion. The usual vent provided by society is swilling down a few drinks. If you’ve ever wondered why so much alcohol is consumed every day, the world over, that’s my theory. However, this is both a special temptation for you now, and something to avoid. I’m not suggesting being a teetotaler, but rather not using alcohol specifically as a pressure release — or as your only one. You need to be able to work that valve yourself, and to direct your abundant energy in sane, healthy and productive ways. It will help if you get good at relaxing enough to have fun with minimal lubrication necessary. It will help if you have the ability to process anger and frustration in ways that resolve them rather than push them back under the surface of your psyche.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — You’re going through a vitally important growth phase that involves balancing out your life. There are many aspects to this, one of which is seeing the ways that your habits of thought don’t serve you. Part of this is recognizing that you do, indeed, think in patterns, and that to be free, you need to let go of crusty old ones and establish some new ones. This will shift your relationships; in particular, by helping you experience common ground rather than rugged individualism. There’s a potentially helpful indicator in your chart, which offers a clue. As a child, you had to develop certain strategies to deal with the all-powerful adults who surrounded you. Those tactics worked for a while, though they need to be identified and questioned now. The upshot is that you need to respond to people as they actually are, not as stand-ins for the roles of your early caregivers.

Pisces Birthdays 2018

Saying Goodbye to Chiron, Saying Hello to Yourself

“I have just listened to your Part 1 and Part 2 readings and I am amazed at how accurate it has been. Like you have a telescope watching me shed a skin and transform into a totally changed person in the last 10 years.”

— P.J.

Dear Pisces Friend and Reader:

With planets gathering in your sign, chances are you feel less like a fish out of water and more in the flow of things than you might have recently. Yet this year holds some interesting developments for you — many of which Eric will cover in your 2018 Pisces Birthday Reading.

This is a separate project from the annual edition, different in every way — they make excellent companions. While the annual readings are written chapters of an interconnected set, your birthday reading is a stand-alone audio meditation. It’s something you can listen to over and over, whether you take notes or take a bath as you listen.

Eric’s audio readings are some of the most unusual astrology you’ll encounter. They go deeper than the work most professional astrologers do, reaching the spiritual essence of the chart’s message, though without the need for a natal chart.

For roughly seven years, you’ve benefitted from Chiron’s focusing power in your sign.

This year, Chiron begins the process of entering Aries — leaving other slow-moving planets in Pisces. If you’ve learned the lessons of Chiron, you’ll be better able to embody that focusing power yourself — and you’ll be in a prime position to navigate everything else the next 12 months will bring.

“Eric, as a Pisces I really appreciate all your readings, as they have truly helped me push past the insecurities and become a truly wonderful person with greater strength to become ME. Thanks so much!”

— Susan Andrews

You can pre-order your 2018 Pisces Birthday Reading here, for just $33. We offer the lowest price first; the price will increase as we near the recording and publication of the reading.

You’ll get two segments of audio astrology, at least 30 minutes each. A little while after those portions publish, Eric will record your tarot reading for the year (included in the price).

Wishing you a beautiful birthday season,

Amanda Painter

P.S. If you love a Pisces, make their day: give the Pisces reading as a gift.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — It’s your birthday season, and many planets have joined the party. Among others, Venus and Mercury are in your sign, which bestow a natural charm and ease of communication. You can say less rather than say more. Notice how others perceive you, and play with that, rather than trying to correct them. All this Pisces energy is likely to have you feeling good, like life is worth living, and like you have enough resources to go around; enough to be able to afford to ease back just a little and have some fun, despite the extremely busy days that have subsumed the world. You will need to do this as a conscious act: that is, as a choice. Saturn and other factors have you in a mode where you’re highly responsive to your calling and your responsibilities. But your ability to do your best work will only benefit from doing a little less of it, at least this week.

Planet Waves Monthly Horoscope for March 2018

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Events this month build toward an unusual unleashing of energy in the professional, career, reputation or mission aspect of your life (however you may think of it). You have the power to initiate ideas that take root quickly, though it would be wise to start only what you think you can sustain. Work with ideas that are sufficiently interesting that you’ll want to stay connected and committed in the long run, and which you value enough to develop even in the face of resistance, challenges or obstacles. This will call for a design scheme, which you could base on nature. One of the ways that humans and, ostensibly, other species are perpetuated is because sex is so appealing. This makes reproduction inevitable. It’s this level of motivation that must be soaked into what you’re doing: drive that is rooted in biology, and that taps into existence with the sensation of insatiable curiosity, and the need to connect. More than the desire to do something, you might let yourself be driven by the need to discover something, using your mind, your senses, your body and your feelings. While this might feel like throwing your body and soul into what you want, remember that relatively minor adjustments can have a significant influence. Pay attention to what may seem too small to even matter. That’s what might matter most. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — The story arc of the coming weeks appears to be a gradual moving inward, after a phase of being actively and outwardly involved in the world. You’ll feel better as you incrementally reduce your exposure to the outer world, and pull in for a little while. Yet you’re not there yet. The cluster of planets traversing Pisces through late February and into the first week of March is about being open and available to people — not an intuitive thing to do these days. We live in an era when shutting down is supposedly the answer to everything. But it’s not, and you know it, and so do other sensitive people. A strategy of being closed and unavailable turns life into an excuse for existence. You have strength, self-awareness and a spiritual connection that many people struggle for, or wish they had. This makes your involvement with those you care about even more meaningful. What you say, and how you respond to events that everyone is struggling to understand, can help keep many people aware. March 3-4 looks like a particularly significant moment when you can do just that. And, at a certain point, you will need to pull in and assess your innermost reality. A new solar year is about to begin, and you’ve learned a lot since your last birthday. Take the time to quietly distill that knowledge. Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Your ruling planet Mercury turns to retrograde motion just after the equinox, on March 22, lasting through April 15. This occurs in Aries, the most social and extraverted region of your chart. Yet you’ll want to keep some distance between what you say outwardly and what happens within the most intimate spaces of your life. This is not so much about being secretive as it is about giving your relationships space to be themselves, minimizing interference and judgment from your wider environment. It seems as if you’re renegotiating an arrangement within a long-term partnership. It could be strictly business, though this is unlikely — it’s more likely to be an erotic partnership that’s undergoing some change and is not revealing its inner workings easily. It will help if you don’t think of it as a relationship but rather as a discussion between two people’s individual lives. The best approach is to make a commitment to holding space for whatever the other is going through, and whatever needs they may have. This calls for some detachment; but mostly, it’s respect that will get the results. Stand back from the idea that anyone belongs to anyone else, or owes anyone anything, and take up the lives involved as individual experiences. This is a test of faith and of commitment. Hold this space for a while, listen patiently, and what to do next will flow naturally. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — You can do anything you want, as long as you leave out any thoughts of revenge, and don’t treat jealousy as a right. This applies to personal as well as professional situations. I know this isn’t really your style; you’re usually too busy taking care of people to let them bother you too much. I suggest that you keep your focus on more exciting, positive and productive things — and they’re available to you in an especially bold way. It will help if you defuse tense situations before they get contentious, and do what you can to convert friction into some form of positive energy. Keep making your own decisions, and don’t try to assert your will on others; figure out what they want, or notice what they’re doing, and do your best to go with that. Looking after your own agenda will help rather than hinder, as long as you ensure that you’re good for your basic commitments. If you can do that, you’ll find yourself exploring new possibilities, new goals and some expanded role in the world as Chiron, the planet of healing and awareness, gets ready to enter your 10th house of profession, responsibility and reputation. A new era of your life is gradually dawning, where you experience more direct recognition not just for what you do but for who you are. Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — If you tend to your emotional needs, you will find it much easier to get along with people. If you project those needs outwardly, it may seem like others are not so willing to meet them. Yet this is not so much about their willingness as it is about how you’re the only person who actually understands what you’ve got going on. You are more cryptic than you think, even to yourself. You might find it an excellent investment to explain what you think, what you’re doing and what you want. It appears you have some work-related projects that have a life of their own, and you want to devote yourself to them. There may be a place in your workshop for someone you care about. Not all projects can include others, though you may find a mutual meeting-place if a friend or partner is interested in participating. Most people have relationships for their own sake. It’s also worth considering the philosophy that relationships benefit from having a mutually agreed purpose. The problem is that when such is lacking, nefarious agendas can slip in, which is why so many relationships go so badly. This phase of your life is calling for you to live with meaning from day to day, to have clear agreements with people, and to make sure those agreements align with your goals. Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — This is an unusual and potentially extraordinarily positive time for your relationships. Yet if you’re caught in a narrow idea of what a relationship is supposed to be, or have to follow strict rules with a partner, you might not be noticing. You’d be well served to relax your ideas about connecting with people, and to encourage partners to do the same. Remember how much of your identity you invest into your primary partnership, which seen one way provides you with an opportunity to find yourself. Yet it also necessitates that the relationship be extremely stable, so that you maintain your sense of identity. Often it seems that the greater the challenges in the relationship, the more you invest, to maintain the structure; in part, because your self-concept is so invested in it. There’s another way to do this, which is to use your evolved individuality to be independent within your relationships. And there’s yet a third way, which is to honestly assess the role that primary partners have served in your life. Are they more like a necessity, or more like a desire? If they’re a necessity, do they deliver the goods, and if they’re a desire, do they leave you feeling satisfied? In April, Chiron changes signs for the first time since 2010, which will focus this line of inquiry in a way that few developments can. Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — From now through the equinox on March 20, the energy shifts from Pisces to Aries. That’s another way of saying that before long, a whole bunch of planets get in your face — one way to think of your opposite sign (Libra and Aries face one another). While yours is one of the least confrontational signs, you’ll need to rise to the occasion of these transits, and meet the world with some energy — and with some faith in your ability to make decisions. You have your options open, which means the necessity to choose from among them, and that’s where you might have a potential concern. First, embrace the possibility that when you make decisions, you also make some mistakes. If you set a policy of always being right (or worse, perfect), that translates to being paralyzed. Also, it’s time to confront some unresolved family matters that are influencing your intimate relationships. While you cannot live like it’s 1950 where your mating rituals are concerned, our current context gives us very little to go by in terms of guidance or wisdom. Much that’s considered cool and modern is connected to marketing and political agendas. Your intimate life is about neither. These agendas drive wedges between people, and emphasize differences. You need contact, which is about embracing similarity. We are not so different after all. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — You may have that feeling of being psychologically on edge, though unsure whether it’s you, or whether it’s everyone and everything. The vibe you’re feeling is in the environment, and it’s a mix of paranoia and uncertainty. Those are understandable responses to life at the moment, though they don’t serve you well. You have plenty of protection around you right now. You’re also at a peak of creativity and sensuality these days, so you have both reasons and opportunities to celebrate life. Yet to have the benefit of any of this, you will need to be open, flexible and willing to explore and experiment. The edgy feeling you’re picking up on is rooted in the rigidity that our environment is pushing on us at nearly every turn. Our devices make us rigid. Our schedules make us rigid. Fear is a stiffening agent, and you can’t take three steps without someone telling you the next thing to be terrified of. To go against this requires courage: to keep your heart open; to engage with what you don’t understand, rather than immediately dissing it; the willingness to have a conversation with someone you don’t agree with; these will all help you feel better, and live better. You want more from life than paying the bills, and to succeed at that requires a sense of adventure, and being open to life. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Financial decisions you make this month will count for a lot. The first thing to be cautious of is being motivated by any form of making fast cash. Ideally, your business plan is a long-term endeavor, which (at least following astrological guidance) should extend out about two years. You can, however, make some small moves this month that have a long-term effect. Most of those will involve how you direct your energy, and how you tap into your resources to get things done. You’ll also benefit from limiting your spending. If there are a few people who think they depend on you in some way, make sure those relationships are in balance, and that you’re not over-extended. You take family loyalty seriously, which extends to your household; it’s one of the most meaningful things in your life. Yet that has to work for everyone to work at all. Under one reading of your chart for the next four or five weeks, you’ll spend money till you run out. Now that we see this possibility, you can invoke others, which include taking care of the basics, setting some cash aside for luxuries defined as such, and making sure you maintain a policy of saving on a regular basis. You have a lot going for you financially these days, though working with that long-range vision is essential. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Your chart is like a pressurized reactor at the moment, and you must vent some of that steam and heat. This pressure will only increase, along with your drive, determination and energy level when Mars enters your sign on March 17. Mars joins a newly arrived long-term visitor to your sign, Pholus, as well as Saturn and Pluto. That adds up to so much mojo you might not know what to do with it all. So what exactly does it mean to vent pressure? First, it helps to stay productive rather than just busy. Notice how much you’ve got going on at any time, and how you’re responding emotionally. Saturn in your sign suggests that you’re handling a lot of responsibility, and you must manage that consciously if you’re going to manage it at all. It’s essential that you pace yourself, though you have to do better than taking things one day at a time. You need a clear sense of the past, the present and the future. Mostly, though, Mars is about getting what you want. In our world, you can only get some of that, so choose what is most important. And let’s remember that Mars specifically describes sexual desire, in the focused form rather than the take-it-or-leave-it form. Get that cork out of the bottle, and honor what nature has bestowed upon you. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Yours is already one of the signs most inclined to experience life primarily on the mental level, though this month’s aspects are encouraging you to bring your whole being into whatever you do. For nearly everyone, there are two factors provoking life as a head-trip: one is technology, and the other is fear. One is so pervasive that it’s invisible, and the other is pervasive and unspeakable. It would be helpful if you had someone you could discuss your fears with, whether it’s a therapist or an older friend (you want someone with experience). You need to understand what you’re concerned about and why, which will take you deep into your psychological nature. One of the prevailing themes of your chart, for the far-foreseeable future, is self-understanding, which is a special form of self-awareness. And much of this involves unraveling the internal causes of anxiety, while doing what you can about the external ones. It would seem, though, that the single most helpful thing you can do is stay in your body, and connected to your senses. You will feel better the more you live in the physical world — of human contact, critters, making your own food, tuning in to your senses, and making art, music and love. And it will help greatly if you express your mental restlessness in a tangible way rather than letting your mind feed on itself. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

19-March 20) — You’re probably getting the message to up your game on the financial front, though the first thing to remember about finances is that they’re connected to everything. In astrology there are two houses connected to the money that you earn, rather than what comes to you through inheritance, and both are in the spotlight. Saturn in Capricorn is encouraging you to make a structural review of where your money comes from. By structural, I mean your sources of income and how they connect to your skills and talents; and then determine what happens to the money once it enters your bank account. Also where Saturn in Cap is concerned, make sure that you’re converting your visibility and participation in your community into revenue in as few steps as possible. The next stage, which heats up radically in March and April, is about respecting your abilities, your resources and your contribution to the degree that you feel good about being paid for them. You must have no hesitation here, though this demands that you invest yourself fully in who you are and what you do. Pisces is one of the signs best equipped to succeed financially in relevant ways — that is, in ways that are meaningful to you — though that in itself is the prerequisite for success. Stay close to your purpose, and let your purpose lead the way. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

A Moment of Awakening

Dear Friend and Reader:

Something extraordinary is happening. Yesterday, survivors and families from last week’s Parkland, Florida, school shooting attended an epic ‘listening session’ with Pres. Trump, who for once behaved like a human being and actually sat there paying attention.

Therese Gachnauer, center, an 18-year-old senior from Chiles High School and Kwane Gatlin, right, a 19-year-old senior from Lincoln High School, both in Tallahassee, join fellow students protesting gun violence on the steps of the old Florida Capitol in Tallahassee, FL., on Feb. 21, 2018. Students at schools across Broward and Miami-Dade counties in South Florida planned short walkouts Wednesday, one week after the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS. Photo by Mark Wallheiser.

On the same day, other survivors from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School confronted Sen. Marco Rubio at their state capitol in Tallahassee, and it was a real showdown.

Thousands of students across the country staged a walkout from their schools to demand stricter gun laws. There are two direct actions planned for March, including a nationwide walkout at 10 am local time on March 14, and the Million Kid March on DC for Gun Control on March 24.

The kids are showing the way. They’re being the adults, and the rest of us need to listen, follow and do everything we can to support and encourage them.

Monday Morning Horoscope for Feb. 19, 2018

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Don’t worry if the week gets off to a stormy start. Take a day to reorient yourself consciously now that the Sun is in a new sign, Pisces. You’re now living between the dream world and the real world, even a little more than is usual these days. The message is that you must stay grounded, which means orienting yourself in the physical world of place and time, of your commitments, and your physical surroundings. You will inevitably be drawn into the cosmos of fantasy, and you must draw yourself back out, and plant yourself down to the ground. If you can do that, you will get to experience the abundance of creativity that’s flowing into you and through you — though this is not so useful if you can’t engage it in the world. Part of engaging with ideas means to dance with the unpredictable, and that’s the best approach to any changes of plans today.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — You may be feeling restless or anxious, though you won’t show it. That’s a good thing, as you’re at your most visible and social at the moment. Just so you know how others are likely to perceive you, dreamy is the word; and people might project their fantasies. This is true to some degree all the time; we tend to see one another as we are. Yet with Venus and Neptune glowing in the social universe of your 11th solar house — the one where you mingle with the world around you — people see you as shining that unusual invisible light of beauty. You might just dance with this and have some fun. You don’t owe anyone anything for being seen however someone wants to see you. And you have your options open; though, of course, the fantasy of who someone thinks you are is different from the reality. If you engage with someone, you get to take them from one place to the other.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — There’s a place in every chart called the 10th house, and it covers both reputation and responsibility. You would think the two go together in the world, but not in these tough times, where many people want all glory and no accountability; power and no rules. Your 10th is where the action is now: your ruling planet Mercury has just arrived, as has the Sun. Venus is there, and so too are Neptune and Chiron. This is a moment of leadership for you, and that means leading by example as well as by your words, thoughts and plans. You may need to overdo the responsibility/accountability angle. This is not just about your reputation; it’s about the longevity of your work, which is based on whether people trust you in the long run. Living “in the moment” is all the rage; however, you will benefit greatly from aligning the past, the future, and your mission and calling right now.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — The Sun has entered your sympathetic water sign Pisces, which has a way of making you feel better about life. For those of us who live in the northern climes, winter is losing its grip, the Sun is coming back to warm us, and the possibilities are opening up. You have a life, and you have more than that: you have faith in yourself, which has come through many trials and tribulations, large and small. When there are many planets in water signs (which currently include Mercury, Venus, the Sun, Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron), your life flows. Rather than push the river, you need to guide your vessel. It’s true that we live in what seem like horribly uncertain times, though that’s a reminder of how life has been in most times and most places during the human experiment. We are not guaranteed certainty; there is no such thing, and the illusion of it never works in your favor.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — If you want depth, you will need to open up a little and let it in. You might feel like if you open the gate just a crack, the unknown will rush in and flood you. You may feel like there will be too many demands, or that you’ll lose your individuality. None of that is true. The sky is dominated by planets in the water signs right now; and when that is the case, everyone has to learn how to swim. You move differently in water compared to how you do on land, though there’s nothing like it. It used to be that fire was the element hidden away, replaced by electric stoves and microwave ovens; smoking has become vaping, and who exactly has spent time sitting next to a campfire? Today, however, water is the “secret element,” portioned in little plastic bottles, mixed with flavors and colors; and, in our times of rising seas, it is considered the enemy. Turn up the heat. Dive in. Water is your best friend.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Planets are gathered in your opposite sign Pisces, the one that represents your intimate relationships and work partnerships, and which describes your environment. This tells me you may have a lot of suitors showing up. While everyone loves attention to some degree, this might be a bit much to manage. However, actively resisting is not the best idea. It’s a little like when you’re at the beach and a big wave is coming: the best thing to do is dive right into it, and you emerge safely on the other side. If you retreat, push back, or hide away, you’ll only feel the tightness of your own defenses. Take this opportunity to engage people openly. Have the courage to speak, to ask questions, to share your thoughts, and to decide what you want to do with whatever attention comes your way. You remain in control of the decisions you make. Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Work may be the last thing you want to do this week, especially at work. If you have some extra vacation days, or personal days, this would be an excellent time to take them, and do something rather un-21st-century: nothing special. However, if you have work to do, or if you must show up and take care of the tasks at hand, find a way to make the experience as pleasant as possible. One thing about Libra and its affinity for beauty is your biological need to work in a fresh environment: with lights and plants and some artwork. You are not the cubicle type. You’re not the chicken factory type. You are very much the work-at-home type, or the one who takes on the unofficial role of beautifying the office. See if you can find other “Venus types” (Taurus and Pisces come to mind), and get some help tidying up, washing windows, investing in plants, and bringing some art objects into your work space. And whatever you may do, do it beautifully.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Yours is the sign associated with sex, all the way back to the earliest days of the astrology that we use. This is associated with biology, and it can be described using evolutionary science. But you don’t need books, studies and reports to know this basic truth, especially now, with planets collecting in one of the most sensuous and erotic regions of your chart, Pisces. Here’s the thing: your imagination may be all kinds of freaky right now, though your true calling is to translate this into physical form. With Mercury in the picture, this is more about a conversation and less about getting lucky or seeing what happens. Use a wide definition of sex, which includes a spectrum of sensual experiences, from food to music to the atmosphere of the space you’re in. However, the presence of Pisces is calling for private rather than public spaces; making your own food rather than paying someone else to do it for you. Find out what partners and loved ones want, and what’s on their mind — and make the very most out of their creative ideas.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Mars (the planet of desire) in your sign is conjunct an asteroid called Vesta, which is making a long-term visit to Sagittarius. Vesta is one of the most interesting elements in astrology, in that it describes unusual relationship scenarios. The ordinary interpretation of Vesta is about people who try to distract themselves from intimacy by staying at work. However, on a subtler level, Vesta suspends the usual rules of love and romance to make room for the many other kinds of desire that people feel, including those that are lesser known (or understood). You might say that Mars-Vesta in Sagittarius is offering a direct connection to the most spiritual elements of sex and relating. For you, the suggestion is to hold space for whatever is happening. Stand back a little, and observe rather than judge. Make sure you account for the fact that you and anyone you relate to need a kind of sanctuary, where anything can happen. Let that be a quiet space, free from electronics, interruptions and time limits.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — You may have a lot to say right now, and no idea where to begin. You could start with describing the weather. Keep a weather journal for a few days, as an experiment. Do this in a little notebook, which will remind you that old-fashioned tools are the ones you like the best. Describe how the air feels, how the sky looks, and how you relate to the temperature. Start by restricting your report to just describing the conditions of your environment as you experience them. Then gradually let the entries get longer, and expand, just a little, into how you feel about the prevailing conditions. Then, notice what being so observant is doing for you: how it’s changing your perception, and what else you notice. You have an important mission, which includes developing your awareness and your power of observation. This can be done in the very simplest of ways, all of which start with being in tune with your senses, and the part of your mind that receives the information.

Aquarius Solar Eclipse Reading from Planet Waves

Dear Friend and Reader:

I’ve just finished the Aquarius audio reading. It’s now available for instant access.

This is a separate project from the annual edition, different in every way. This is a 75-minute astrology reading in two sessions, based on Thursday’s solar eclipse in your sign — the last solar eclipse in Aquarius until Feb. 17, 2026.

Planet Waves
Chart for Thursday’s solar eclipse. The monograph behind it is by the German philosopher Dieter Duhm.

This chart has a lot to say about relationships, self-esteem, family and ancestral matters. I do my best to help you orient inwardly to experience these dimensions of growth and healing not only as real, but as accessible, workable places to focus your energy and time.

Your reading is available for $66. My audio readings are some of the most unusual astrology you’ll encounter. I believe they go deeper than the work that most professional astrologers do, reaching the spiritual essence of the chart’s message, though without the need for a natal chart. This reading will stand up to many playings.

Doing this work takes experience and preparation; if sold as “self help” these readings would be going for many times the price. My intention is to keep them accessible and affordable.

I’ve prepared a sample of the reading lasting about six minutes, which you can play as an mp3, or download as a zip file. The music is an original piece by Vision Quest, the Planet Waves in-house ensemble.

My method of reading opens up so many dimensions that I could devote hours to each chart. Yet this reading distills certain vital messages, catching you up on the past few months of Saturn in Capricorn, and previewing the transits of Chiron in Aries and Uranus in Taurus.

I’ll be following up with a tarot reading in a month or two, a feature that’s included with your reading, though is about to be split off as a separate product. That’s not delivered on a schedule — it’s ready when it’s ready.

Your reading also includes access to last year’s audio reading (so that you can review it) as well as The Book of Your Life 2017 written reading.

Thank you for being a Planet Waves customer, and for trusting me as your astrologer.

With love,

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Last week’s solar eclipse in your birth sign is gradually working its effects on you. When an eclipse is building, it’s like an invisible storm is blowing in. The psychic air pressure changes, there’s tension in the atmosphere, and a sense of things running out of control. Now that the eclipse has passed, you may have noticed a drop in the pressure, and a sense that you have more influence over your own affairs. Take a deep breath. You are involved in a clearing process, one that’s taking you deep into some problem areas, compelling you to reorganize, restructure, and expand your awareness to every facet of your life. This also includes your relationships, which may seem out of sorts or in transition — though you can trust that this process is leading you somewhere you can actually place your feet on the ground. Make the changes you feel called upon to make. Clear out space in your mind and in your life. Set your priorities, and act on them.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — In astrology, the 12th house is the one that is usually said to correspond with yours, the 12th sign. This is the most mysterious house, which is about all things invisible, and not available to the normal senses. How have your dreams been? Have you noticed that you’re doing some kind of deep working out? Have you noticed that the air feels a little cleaner, like in the morning after it’s rained all night? Last week’s eclipse took place in your 12th house, which was like a psychic purge. Periodically, this house needs the pressure equalized with the rest of your life, your mind and your chart, and that’s what happens when there’s an eclipse in this area of your chart. Notice your new clarity, feel it, and pay attention to what you notice. Make sure you do that Pisces thing and keep your point of view moving rather than fixed. One benefit to this event was that it’s helping set you free from thought-forms that had grown too rigid. Look at everything and everyone, including yourself, from as many angles as you can.
