Virgo: Another Slice of the Orange

Dear Friend and Reader:

Friday morning, the Sun joins Venus and Mars in Virgo. Juno will be close behind, entering Virgo Friday evening.

Orange, the color and the fruit.

We’re continuing with an unusual situation in which four planets will suddenly be in a sign where there has been very little action for a while. This has just happened with Leo, and now it’s about to happen with Virgo.

For quite some time, the astrology has been focused on Aries and Capricorn. Currently, many slow movers are making their way across these two signs — Chiron, Saturn, Pluto and Eris, and minor planets Salacia, Pholus and Quaoar. Uranus recently spent seven years in Aries.

Dear Friend and Listener:

Tonight’s program visits the Woodstock Festival many times. We hear from Swami Satchidananda, Ravi Shankar, Max Yasgur, and many others who were there. I describe how Virgo astrology, especially Pluto in Virgo, was the dominant force of the 1960s and how this relates to the festival — which was, of course, a kind of once-in-forever World Heritage event.

Monday Morning Horoscope #190 for August 19, 2019

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — This is always a productive time of year for you, and can be especially so, with Venus, Mars and the Sun moving through your work and productivity angle. You will have no problem keeping busy, though you will want to choose the projects you contribute to. Look for the connection between any one task and several of the goals or objectives you’re moving toward. The more connections any one task has to a few different points, the better. More significant, though, is how you feel when you’re involved. When you find that experience of being lost in your work, when the time leaps by and you look at the clock and it’s 3:30 am when a minute ago it was 10 pm, that’s the place to be. To that end, do what attracts you, what turns you on, what feels good when you’re involved. From there, one good idea will lead to another. Get your full Aries reading by Eric here.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Notice how the concept of sharing has ended up in the recycling bin. What used to be called “the commons” has been replaced by vending machines. You might want to retrieve it and get it going in your local world. This is not specifically about you, though you may benefit. The subject is much larger than one person, though ideas always start with an individual. You’re in a position to facilitate something worthwhile, and that goes contrary to the prevailing (extremely annoying) environment of buy, sell, buy, sell. Yet you know the world belongs to all of us. You know that we are merely its stewards. There’s a benefit to tapping into this level of reality, which is true abundance. Yet you’re the leading candidate for getting things started, or better said, reviving an old idea whose time needs to come. Get your full Taurus reading by Eric here.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — More so now than ever, you must do what feels right. If you encounter resistance, delays, blockages or frustration, try doing something else. The order in which you do things is less important than engaging in activity that is satisfying and at least somewhat fruitful — and your home is a good place to start. Anything you can do to improve your living space will make you significantly happier. The areas to attend to first are things like cleaning, taking care of your plants, and your linens. Tackle any stagnant corners, piles, closets or storage areas, for example, under the kitchen sink. Get the energy moving. Wash the curtains — this kind of thing. The result will be a liberating sense of belonging in your own space, greater productivity and being ready for company to arrive. Cleaning and freshening physical space are a positively awesome vacation from the oppressive digital realm. Get your full Gemini reading by Eric here.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Words count now, and you can make them work for you. In fact, imagine the whole dictionary shaking and vibrating and wanting to jump into your mind, your notebook, your computer screen. The Sun’s entry into Virgo is your invitation, though there’s no need to delay. Venus and Mars are involved, so the feeling is sensuous, warm, and with some sexual tension in the mix. Follow your curiosity, and dance with the possibilities. I don’t know if writing turns you on; surely at least reading does, and in our times, engaging with a book is a full-on immersion of your senses. Yet you also seem to have a story to tell. You might be tempted to write about your experiences, though I suggest you point your pencil in the direction of what you want, and want to create. Be colorful and detailed and passionate in your description. See and feel your desires as vividly as you can. Get your full Cancer reading by Eric here.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Your astrology is calling you to set your priorities in order. It’s easy to let this fall to the side, though it’s now on the level of a necessity. Consider your priorities as being in two main categories — wellbeing and finances. They are related, as there is often some need to allocate resources to taking care of yourself. Yet this is as likely to be about time and energy as it is about money. Even more than that, your commitment to your own cause is the essential motivating factor to stay in touch with. Pay attention to what you know drives you to act on your own behalf, and connect with that idea, feeling or emotion. You always have time to do the things that are important to you, and right now, there are some significant needs you must address — and you have all the necessary ingredients to make that happen. Just put them all together. Get your full Leo reading by Eric here.

Planet Waves
You are heading into a most unusual solar year: with Venus, Mars, Juno and the Sun in your sign, you’re set up to do the thing Virgo is designed for: integrate the elements of your being, find your direction and purpose, and act on it. This is an astrology reading followed by a tarot reading, which will come a few weeks later. Pre-order now for $44. Reading will be available on or about Aug. 23.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — The Sun enters your sign in grand style this week, with the company of both Venus and Mars. This is the perfect image of Virgo, which can embody either sex, or neither sex, as you wish. This goes for any form of sex roles, or the emotions that are ascribed to them; and it goes for your organic response to the direct experience of being alive. If you are feeling anything but your most incredible vitality, pause and consider why that might be. Are you hesitating in any way? Are you actively resisting? There’s often a little fear in the experience of feeling fully incarnated and in possession of your existence. One of the ways you know you’re getting near the cusp of actually embodying being wholly alive is when that fear starts to bubble to the surface. You are in a position to exceed or violate the metes and bounds that supposedly define who you are. Once you do that, keep going. Get your full Virgo reading by Eric here.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Your imagination may be running wild for the next few weeks — and it will help you if you get out of your head and into the physical world. By all means stoke your fantasies and indulge in your mental pleasures, and then cross the bridge into reality with at least some of them. It’s true that all things related to the body are confused and distorted at the moment, and may be laced with fear and apprehension. You might feel embarrassed about allowing something out of the sanctity of your mind and into the wild world, where you must in some way interrelate with others. That is, however, the thing to do: for healing, for pleasure, and for growth. The inner and the outer worlds rarely align with perfect symmetry (really, never, but I never say never). So this is an experiment, one you may need to try a few times. Borrowing a line from The Beatles, all you need is trust. Get your full Libra reading by Eric here.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — You may care about your reputation, but there is little you can do about it, and little that you need to do. You are who you are, and how people perceive you is their business. Attending to the details of your presentation may make you feel better though they are unlikely to sway anyone. What you can focus on is feeling good, and being at home in your skin. These days that’s a revolutionary act. Any gesture of casting off the burden of image is a kind of revolt. This is mainly for the benefit of your own sanity; thinking you know what other people think is a hall of mirrors. Practice self-acceptance. Practice being who you are and saying what you think. Not everyone will like it. You will repel some of the right people. You will attract certain others. This will work pretty well, most of the time. It’s easier than obsessing over matters where you have no control. Get your full Scorpio reading by Eric here.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Just in time for Jupiter’s recent return to direct motion, several helpful planets are crossing the midheaven angle of your solar chart — your fellow mutable sign Virgo. This is about stepping up and stepping out in the world. It’s also about attending to the details of your work, rather than leaving them to others. It’s true that Sagittarius has the reputation of not wanting to get bogged down in the technicalities, but that’s only one side of your nature. Another side wants total control. And though you can rarely have this, you can make sure that the connections are made, that your preferred language is used, and that you understand all of the commitments you’re involved with. Yet you must be cautious of overthinking matters, and getting so caught up in details that you lose the wide view and your sense of your goals. So make sure the two are connected, and be on the lookout for mistakes, miscommunications, and assumptions. Get your full Sagittarius reading by Eric here.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — You’re being confronted by so many challenges that it may seem impossible to see, or think about, the true scope of your existence. You may feel like you’re driven by responsibility that you can barely handle. Yet that is the state of mind you want to step out of, calmly and quietly, and consider the underlying purpose of what you are doing. Over the next week or so, you may be filled with the idea that you came here to learn, and you must persist in doing so. But what exactly are you learning for? Knowledge is rarely an end in itself. It needs a job, a direction, a mission. Only then is it relevant. Most of the useful knowledge you gain comes from experience and experimentation. Sure, you need some theory; but step by step, match what you’re experiencing to what you know from books, theories and other sources of ideas. The meeting of the two is what you want — and what you can most easily use for the greater good. Get your full Capricorn reading by Eric here.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Your chart is under excellent aspects for connecting with others, though you don’t want to be a perfectionist about this. No contact you make with another person should have an end goal that you drive it toward. Desires are one thing; wanting certain experiences is fair game; but you would be wise to stay out of any form of “tie the knot” territory. Be open-minded, and keep an open heart. Be yourself and give people plenty of space to be themselves. Then, see if you can observe any points of intersection, of a sincere meeting, even if the subject matter is focused. Explore what works and grow from there. Be alert to your level of commitment to any situation, and see who sends you the message that they like you. Most of the world is oriented on going straight to the transaction these days. Nearly everything is seen in economic terms. Do what you can to get away from that. Get your full Aquarius reading by Eric here.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — The Sun, Venus and Mars are about to enter your 7th solar house: the one about relationships and partnerships. This will put you on the map, and it will shine a spotlight on certain people in your environment. Follow the light. Involve yourself with who and what is available. Try to get out of that habit of wanting what you cannot have, including people who treat you inconsistently or who always seem to be making up their mind. Move on to the next person or the next situation. There will be plenty, especially if you don’t clog up your own availability by distracting yourself with unproductive situations. We all need to acknowledge the extent to which this is a useless habit. In support of a new vision, notice who notices you. Notice who shows up. Respond positively when someone offers you something loving and affirming; reward affection and pass on the rest. Get your full Pisces reading by Eric here.

Brother Moon, Sister Moon

Today, Aug. 15, 2019, is the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival. I had been planning an article on the topic, but I could not get it up to my standards in time. I have offered one commentary in last week’s Planet Waves FM [listen to segment here] and I will have more to say on Sunday. The world has been looking at the same (admittedly brilliant) photos of the festival for many years. Not so many cameras got in, or not so many photos got out. But some, by Richard Bellak, were recently discovered. Among others, he took a series of nighttime images of the Woodstock festival, which were especially difficult to capture using film cameras from the time (where “fast” film was considered ASA/ISO 400). We’ve illustrated tonight’s article on the Aquarius Moon with pictures from the festival by several different photographers. Tonight’s article is a revision of a piece in my “Moon” series originally published in 2003. NOTE: If you want to listen to Woodstock “as it happened,” tune into WXPN out of Philly. They are playing the concert in realtime all weekend.

I am a lonely visitor.
I came too late to cause a stir,
Though I campaigned all my life towards that goal.
I hardly slept the night you wept
Our secret’s safe and still well kept
Where even Richard Nixon has got soul.
Even Richard Nixon has got soul.

— Neil Young

Dear Stargazer:

The Aquarius Moon often presents a puzzle to astrologers. The Moon is a cyclical creature, constantly changing. Aquarius is a fixed sign and tends to crystallize patterns. The Moon is inherently emotional and Aquarius is usually described as being rational and intellectual.

The Moon is maternal and we hardly think of Aquarius as being particularly cozy this way. Aquarius is ruled by Saturn (in the modern age, also by Uranus). The Moon rules the sign Cancer, which is about as different from Aquarius as you can get.

Monday Morning Horoscope #189 for August 12, 2019

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Emphasize what is creative and social rather than what directly pertains to business. Summer is growing long, and there will be plenty of time to work when the world is darker and colder. Let in some of the warmth and sunshine in these rare days of your life. Appreciate who is near you, and notice the benefits that your circumstances afford you. It may be beyond the capacity of many people today to recognize and love the friendship and support that is around them, though for you, it’s the essence of your astrology. So, too, is your ability to bring other people into your creative ideas: in a sense, to make beauty into a social experience. Make being the distinctive person you are into an art project of its own. You are free to lift the lid off of your own beauty. That would be the perfect act of rebellion in these strange days. Get your full Aries reading by Eric here.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — You may feel like you’re being asked to give something up, or to sacrifice yourself, though that is a misunderstanding. Actually, you’re in a position to make something possible that would not ordinarily happen. That is a privilege and a responsibility more than an imposition. The better you do it, the more like a privilege it will feel. There are a few points to emphasize. One is that you are involved in creating space for a kind of gathering. There may be a risky or edgy feeling to what is happening — as if something daring is being attempted. You are among those who keep the process safe, like the person calmly standing there with the fire extinguisher during a fireworks display. Your home factors into events, and may be a focal point, such as for a meeting or social event of some kind. Such a gathering may represent the start of an important project. Get your full Taurus reading by Eric here.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — A close partner or associate may decide it’s time to change their tune regarding a position they’ve taken for months. They may own up to something, or move forward with a discussion that has been veiled in silence, or decide it’s time to participate more actively. It will take some time, a month at least, to get a sense of where they’re actually coming from, and whether they’re prepared to rise to a commitment. Action will be the proof, not words. You will know for sure where someone stands in early December, when Jupiter enters Capricorn. Until then, don’t get your hopes up; rather, honor your commitments and promises to yourself, and carry your projects and ambitions forward under your own steam. If you need help with something, don’t wait — rather, actively seek the collaboration that you need. And be bold about holding people to their promises, while at the same time making sure that you keep yours. Get your full Gemini reading by Eric here.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — How much of your personal influence involves your sexuality? More than you may imagine. This is a fact of human nature, not of your life specifically, though it happens to be shining boldly through your chart at the moment. You may as well make peace with this, and make the most of it. Sexuality first involves awareness of your environment: of who is in it, how they feel, and who is relating to whom. I don’t mean this on the level of gossip, but rather on that of acknowledging the natural order of things. Most significant is how you feel. If you’re feeling good, and keep your energy moving, your life will go better. We live in pent-up times, when relaxing and letting go runs counter to the prevailing environment. One thing to track is how in your body you are, which you will know based on how you feel, or perhaps, based on whether you feel. Stay awake. Stay alert and sensitive. Get your full Cancer reading by Eric here.

Part One of Eric’s Solar Winds reading, Astrology Studio for Leo Sun, Moon and rising, is now available for instant access. Leo has just been through an extraordinary experience of eclipses (including the Great American Eclipse), and you are still reorienting from those experiences. We will move from there into the influence of the Saturn-Pluto conjunction in Capricorn, which talks about the profound changes you’re going through in “everyday life,” including matters related to work and wellbeing. And of course, Chiron in Aries will feature prominently, in this extended reading for Leo. Take a break from the mental stress and frustration of society, and enter a world where you are at the center, where your potential is real, and where your problems yield to your spiritual gifts. You may order here. This reading is included with the Backstage Pass and Galaxy Pass.

Planet Waves
Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — The only thing more interesting than this week’s Full Moon are the aspects to the Sun when it happens. El Sol, your ruling star, is conjunct three points: Venus, Sappho and an unusual object in the Kuiper Belt called Sila-Nunam. Together, these should have you feeling excited about life, and your personal potential. They will help make you the center of some social attention, which can be portable; that is, something you take anywhere. Venus conjunct the Sun in Leo has an irresistible quality. Sappho is not just about the Isle of Lesbos; it’s about getting people together, for something real and sincere. Sila-Nunam is a point I’ve been tracking through your sign for many years, and which I think is a current keynote of Leo. I use it as a reminder to tell you that you don’t have to hold up the sky all by yourself. You have help. Get your full Leo reading by Eric here.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Some days you may be full of fire and thunder, and then the smallest insecurity can make you stumble. Therefore, focus on the smaller kind of confidence rather than the greater. For example, solve problems in your home, and make tangible improvements from which you feel better. Make sure you clear out the energy of anyone you’ve decided does not belong there. Open up what may feel like a challenging discussion on any topic involving the “facts of life” — finances, sex, or commitment, for example. Know where you stand before you initiate the discussion, and be honest about your expectations. You have an opportunity for a real discussion, on much easier terms than you’re used to. What I would remind you of is the profound extent to which you seek self-knowledge in any relationship. Keep that near the front. Be real about it. Partners will appreciate you for doing so. Get your full Virgo reading by Eric here.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You continue to be under spectacularly amazing aspects, though I want to check in with you about whether you feel that way. I only say this from the experience of feeling under the weather during gorgeous astrology. So check in with yourself and see if you can find what’s bothering you, if something is. For everyone else: get out and among the people. Or dive into a creative project you’ve been wanting to do. Your artistic potential is as bold as your social potential. Sometimes the two are at odds: you really want to stay home or in your studio and finish that thing, and it’s a great night to go out. Try to weave that together, and make sure you get as much done as possible when the social prospects are a little boring, so you will feel better when you have the chance to go out. Also, remember how good a little progress every day makes you feel. If I recall, pretty good. Get your full Libra reading by Eric here.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — This week’s Full Moon highlights the professional and reputation angle of your chart, which is Leo. The lunar event takes place in Aquarius, which is where you experience events related to your home and your security. From both angles, this lunation is reminding you how much you depend on people for your success, your grounding, and your overall wellbeing. Celebrate that fact, and let people know how much you appreciate them. Be the rare person in the professional world who does people solid favors: who helps them get ahead by introducing them to someone or inviting them to an event; who writes a recommendation rather than makes a phone call; who makes sure you are a resource and an example to younger people. You are a kind of rock star. Be the kind who gives a valuable guitar to the leader of your road crew, as a small gesture of thanks for all they do. Get your full Scorpio reading by Eric here.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Jupiter stationed direct in your sign on Sunday. This is your reminder that it’s time to put some long-delayed plan into motion. Yet it will be crucial that you not rush, and further, that you sort through any ambiguities or problems that arise in a thoughtful, thorough and cautious way. Here is the basis of my reasoning, from an astrological perspective. Jupiter, your ruling planet, is in a square to Neptune. This is a kind of high-hopes aspect, and some astrologers warn of things like bubbles bursting, motivation fizzling out, or the real goal being lost in the fog. Therefore, you’re responsible for maintaining your drive and your focus, which I suggest you do in a gentle, persistent way (more like Pisces…) rather than shooting an arrow at your goal (…and less like Sagittarius). The time will come when you have to aim your bow at the one true goal; the thing is, you probably don’t know what it is yet, and now is the time to find out. Get your full Sagittarius reading by Eric here.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — You’re likely to feel better all of a sudden, as if some subtle pressure has been released. Your circumstances may not have changed. Your goals, actions and routines may be the same today as they were yesterday. Yet you just feel better, as if someone finally turned off their leaf blower across the street. It’s truly important to note that feeling, and to act on it by doing something you may not previously have felt good enough to do. One way this astrology may express itself is you discovering you’ve had a concern for several months, that you were not admitting to yourself. Once you admit it, you can consider it, and make decisions around it, all of which count for progress. Your astrology for the foreseeable future is about a seemingly endless litany of small decisions, and several large ones, which need to be attended to day by day. Borrowing a line from our old friend Dubya, you are the Decider-in-Chief, of your own life. Get your full Capricorn reading by Eric here.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — The Full Moon in your birth sign is inviting you to be as weird as you actually are. Which is not that weird, really, as Aquarius is a Saturn-ruled sign. Yet you have those ways in which you are decidedly different, and feel different. And those differences are prominent in your psyche and your personality; they are what make you who you are, and they are what you’re invited to celebrate this week. Take note, as well, if you are born with the Moon in Aquarius: this is a potentially glorious moment. I say all of this knowing society is in many ways FUBAR right now. I also say it knowing you’re sensitive to that, and also blessed with enough detachment to allow you to feel some of your good fortune, share some with others, and save some for a rainy day. Remind yourself always: You were born to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Live that truth every day. Get your full Aquarius reading by Eric here.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Jupiter, the planet from ancient astrology associated with Pisces, has changed to direct motion. Yes, this happens once a year, though this time, it’s occurring in Sagittarius, your house of professional achievement, reputation and aspiration. This will help you set in motion some long-delayed plans. (Much of what I’ve written for Sagittarius applies to you.) The thing to be cautious of is committing to a course of action before you have full information. For the next few weeks, you will need to experiment consciously, and see what works. You are persistent, and you can be driven, though for now, you want to be efficient. There will be wisdom in taking the path of least resistance — to the place you want to go. For the best route, follow the water. Walking alongside a river is a good way to avoid having to climb mountains. (The river is your emotional flow, your most exciting ideas, and the work you truly feel like doing.) Get your full Pisces reading by Eric here.

Jupiter, Neptune, and the Aquarius Full Moon

During these chaotic times, it’s essential that you maintain a boundary between what is outer and what is inner: what is your life, and what belongs to “the world” and the mirage arising before us on the internet and TV.

That boundary is where you gain a measure of influence over the flow of your thoughts and feelings. Slamming the door to what seems external to you won’t work; that resistance will create an energy dam. Neither do you have to throw yourself into the mess.

That said, the public issues are intensely personal, reaching into our homes and communities: for example, the absurd denial drama regarding weapons of battle being used at WalMart or the Garlic Festival (one might reasonably get the idea that it is indeed a war).

Those who know and love people on the “pro” side of the gun debate are sick of hearing the excuses, and the denial is long past the point of being disturbing.

Then there’s the matter of an accused human trafficker (who is friends with the world management team) purportedly killing himself, when he supposedly had already attempted to do so, but was taken off suicide watch after a few days and placed in a cell alone.

Anyone who is a survivor of sexual assault is, by now, aware of the suicide problem. In particular, where the abuse of young people is concerned, a good few perps take their own lives. That said, even the mainstream press seems a bit skeptical of this one. Based on the astrology, I have zero confidence that he killed himself, and I would estimate at least 50/50 odds that he is still alive.

Dear Friend and Reader:

Tonight’s Planet Waves FM looks at the current astrology: Jupiter stationing direct, with Jupiter square Neptune, and Thursday’s Aquarius New Moon.

I briefly discuss the deeper implications of the Jeffrey Epstein situation. Then I move on to a reading of the Woodstock Festival chart (included below), and Tantra Studio, wherein I discuss the “anti-environment” created by conscious sexuality.

Tonight’s music is mostly by Vision Quest (I open with a Mickey Hart piece from Planet Drum).

Toward an American Revolution

Dear Friend and Reader:

We can count everything happening now as the Pluto return of the United States. Though it technically starts in 2022 and extends a few years, we are presently in the vortex of this once per 248 years event. Current circumstances are, due to the rarity of this aspect, much more meaningful and influential than they may seem, especially in an era where everything is considered irrelevant.

Detail of the chart for the Saturn-Pluto conjunction on Jan. 12, 2020. All the Capricorn stuff is right on top: the event takes place at 33 seconds to noon Eastern time. Notice that Jupiter is also in the picture, in early Capricorn. The Jupiter-Saturn conjunction takes place after the election, on the winter solstice of 2020.

There are three main elements to the U.S. Pluto return. One is the Saturn-Pluto conjunction of Jan. 12, 2020. I described this cycle in a few paragraphs in the most recent Monday Morning edition (third section).

In order to understand what is happening now — assuming you want to — this is essential reading. I have a couple of other pieces on the Pluto return that I will add in the P.S., below my signature.

The first element is the alignment on Jan. 12: Saturn and Pluto are joined by Mercury, the Sun and Ceres, all within about two degrees. That is how 2020 starts off. The second element is that this whole pattern forms a square to Eris in Aries.

Eris is not always as simple as discord (her Roman name was Discordia, patron saint of sci-fi author Robert Anton Wilson).
