You may not know where a creative or emotional opportunity will lead you, though that’s not a good reason to pass it up. If you don’t follow your curiosity, what are you following? Caution is not a motivator, any more than you can drive to California only by stepping on the brake pedal. Challenges will most certainly arise, and they are more than “tests” and “lessons.” Your experience of your life is your opportunity to understand yourself, and to experiment with what you want. There would be no point to freedom otherwise.

Today’s Libra Moon will be picking up on a longstanding aspect pattern in the early cardinal signs. Getting the Moon involved could make it feel more personal, or may bring in a less conscious layer of emotional response to old material that’s been making itself known lately. If you’ve been feeling indecisive about how to handle certain familial patterns or baggage, the influence of Libra could add to your vacillation. Then again, you may discover a balancing effect — a moment of equilibrium that allows you to see your situation with a little more grace, or to express it to a partner with real diplomacy.

Meanwhile, Mars in Cancer is moving into contact with Saturn, Pluto and Neptune this week. Given the option between digging into any kind of power struggle and using your empathy or imagination to help others (or to take your own new tack forward), which feels like it will be more beneficial and enjoyable in the long run? Know when you’re hitting your limits with others’ agendas, but also know your own deeper motivations.

Think strategically and over the long term. Careful planning and taking things one step at a time should help you reach your aims. This includes being clear about what you want and why you want it: a gradual approach is benefited enormously by reminding yourself of that potent vision by which you were inspired right at the beginning. Keep that image front and center, and you’ll be able to focus on the necessary level of detail while also steering in the right direction.

Venus is in Taurus — one of its ‘home’ signs — and is making a few aspects today. One of those, a square to the asteroid Psyche in Aquarius, seems to speak to what might be a stubbornly persistent sense of wounding to do with love and relationships. It may have something to do with jealousy, possessiveness, trying to measure up to social expectations of relationships, or some other niggling self-doubt or insecurity. Whatever it is, if you’re feeling some inner tension about it, that’s a sign that you actually can do or say something about it to begin to heal and resolve it.

Venus is also making trines to Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn between today and Sunday. Even though people often cast Saturn and Pluto as ‘scary’ planets, this configuration actually offers a good deal of support for things like: discussing problems with a relationship partner; the kind of stability that comes with two people living up to their responsibilities together; understanding the deep inner workings of your relationships (including sexually and emotionally). With a little effort on your part, the ground appears well prepared for whatever you need to express, verbally or physically.

Take care constantly to find ways to broaden your perspective, and to take into account other points of view. This is a valuable tool for learning and growth. Other people and new ideas can often be a surprise that either delights, irritates, intrigues or downright enrages; all of which constitutes stimulus, and encourages us to break out of patterns and remain fresh. Today the Sun makes a square to a minor planet called Orcus, in Virgo. Mythically, Orcus was kind of an ancient Etruscan precursor to Pluto, and the enforcer of contracts. What promises have you made to yourself that are asking to be kept? How do they factor into your ongoing process of shaping yourself? Squares signify internal tension: a signal that you need to do something actively that will integrate the two sides of the square. What is on your mind — perhaps in some kind of dual or paradoxical state — and what do you need to do to bring it into physical form? As you make that agreement with yourself tangible, it will in turn bring forth some new facet of you. This is just one of the subtle ways in which we evolve — not into a ‘better’ person, but simply who we came here to be.

We also have Saturn in Capricorn and Juno in Cancer opposing each other today. Can you give the very thing you seek to receive in a relationship? It’s a hard lesson of life to realize that we often have to give to ourselves first the emotional energy, attention and love that we hope another will show us. The weird paradox is that when we do take care of our own emotional needs first, it can open the space for the other person to meet us and share themselves more freely — though that generally happens as a fringe benefit, rather than as the primary goal. (That said, if someone is withholding to an abusive level, it can take the help of a therapist to sort that out.) Notice in particular whether this dynamic is cropping up with an authority figure, or with someone older (perhaps even parental).

Finally, Mercury in Gemini is exactly opposite Jupiter in Sagittarius today. Be sure you keep toggling back and forth between the bigger picture and the details of any situation — especially if it’s related to business dealings, planning sessions or your larger goals. Check the Monday Astrology Diary for more detail on this aspect.

Communicate your feelings and thoughts as clearly as you can to loved ones. You’re experiencing some deeply transformative astrology, and would almost certainly benefit from the support of those around you as you navigate the various changes. The closer you bring friends into the picture, the more engaged they are likely to be as your allies. An atmosphere of mutual trust and confidence may well aid their growth processes as well as yours.

Focus on practical matters as much as possible today. A trine between Mercury in Taurus and Saturn in Capricorn should open the door to nuts-and-bolts, ground-level work, and the ability to be persistent with it. You might pay particular attention to ways you’ve been needing to re-organize your immediate environment or workspace, especially if that coincides with some inner re-organizing that’s afoot. Mercury in Taurus combined with a Libra Moon could bring your attention to the aesthetics of the situation.

Right around 5:30 pm EDT, the Moon enters Scorpio. This potentially ups everyone’s emotional intensity and the need to get under the surface of something tonight — especially as the Moon makes aspects to several sensitive planets very early in signs. With both Mars newly in Cancer and Venus newly in Taurus (alongside Uranus), this could mean that some form of sexual self-investigation may be on the agenda, whether solo or with a playmate. Finances might also be a prime target for your attention.

Hold on to your moral compass as an anchor keeping you steady amid all weathers. It’s likely you can set an example for others by your actions; especially by delivering on any promises you make, and doing what you know to be right. This doesn’t require spectacular heroics nearly so much as making the best choices each day, in little matters as well as great. Remember also that the only person whose approval you need is you.

As you begin the week, notice your workspace (the literal, physical way that space is set up), workflow, time management and general sense of responsibility. In what ways do these elements support recent changes in your experience? In what ways might they be starting to hold you back, or feel due for restructuring?

These could be priority themes of Saturn’s next four-and-a-half months or so: it stations retrograde today in Capricorn, suggesting a phase of review. Add in the ways you do and do not take authority in your life (such as over your decisions, feelings, and how you’ve gotten where you are now) to round out your exploration of what else you could build on your current foundations. That Saturn makes its apparent backward move closely conjunct the lunar South Node brings further emphasis to the notion of “what is comfortable but no longer truly serves you.” (Hmm… in that case, is it really even that comfortable anymore?)

Yes, the Sun in Taurus usually emphasizes things like long-held, comfortable routines and values. But the Sun’s encounter with Uranus last week may have provided some kind of shock or wake-up call to your system — whether bodily or some other type of system. If that offered new creative energy, chances are you’re now on the alert to continue channeling it. Or maybe you’re still searching for the outlet that feels right? Either way, today’s Pisces Moon should offer some imagination and intuitive sensitivity to help you get started.

Be ready to lift your head above the parapet. Standing out takes courage, whether that’s being the first person to walk through previously untrodden territory; or perhaps the one who says what nobody else will. It cannot be done with the intention of simply making a noise. Yet if you have something that needs to be expressed, a point of view or a work of art uniquely your own, let the world see and hear.

How can you simultaneously take care of yourself (and the other people, animals and things close to you) and stay engaged in the tumultuous changes happening in the world at large? Who are you in the face of these changes, and in the midst of the many changes you yourself may feel called to make? These might be the sorts of questions pushing into consciousness today, as the Aries Sun moves into exact alignment with the Pluto-Eris square (with Saturn and other change-related points and objects nearby). You may find that the more you can answer those questions through direct, non-digital contact with others, the more you’ll relieve any sense of tension that’s been brewing — at least, on the personal level. With the Moon in Leo harmonizing with other fire-sign planets, you may sense (or seek) a little extra purpose to your socializing today. Who in your world is sparking joy?

Act on your ambitions; the months ahead are an excellent time to make progress. You may well feel sufficiently driven to power your efforts without any further motivation, such that you might need to check in with yourself occasionally and make sure you’re not pushing ahead at the expense of your wellbeing. Your plans are likely to work best if you’re at your most happy and healthy. If you can muster your powers, you’ll be close to unstoppable.

Work that is a combination of physical and intellectual appears favored today, thanks to Mars and Saturn in a nice earth-sign trine across Taurus and Capricorn. You may even find you’re able to be more diligent than usual with physical tasks, though mind the details; and if you’re currently dealing with a difficult situation, you may feel a greater ability to cope with it. Yet today’s star aspect is a conjunction of the Sun and Mercury in Pisces — marking the astrological midpoint of the current retrograde. If you absolutely must conduct important business during a retrograde of Mercury, and cannot wait, today is traditionally said to be the best day for it.

Between Mercury’s retrograde status and the fact that it’s moving into contact with Jupiter, there’s a real possibility for sloppiness with the particulars of any given situation to creep in. Measure twice and cut once, however you apply that metaphor. Sun-Mercury conjunctions tend to indicate heightened self-involvement — and can make it a little harder to see yourself as others do. Can you use that direction of focus to review or untangle some facet of your past spiritual growth? With today’s first quarter Moon also square Jupiter, you have some leverage to work with.

What’s New with You?

By Amanda Painter

As we emerge from yesterday’s Gemini New Moon and whatever you experienced with it, the theme of “new” appears to be carrying forward. Questions you might ask yourself include “Where in my life do I need something new?” and “What am I willing and able to do to seek, cause or attract it?”

Note that since this astrology is happening as Mars prepares to station retrograde in Aquarius on June 26, those questions could have a background quality of feeling like you’re standing in contrast to everyone around you. You may want to track that over the next few weeks.

Since the Gemini New Moon made contact with a variety of objects around the zodiac, notice whether you feel like you had to juggle or synthesize several very different encounters, influences or perspectives. How is that process going for you? Do you feel closer to clarity on a particular issue or further from it?

With Mercury — the planet of the mind — in Cancer as of Tuesday, and Venus — the planet of receptivity and relationships — in Leo as of yesterday evening, you might be noticing a slight shift in how you’re perceiving and responding to those around you. Mercury in Cancer could be enhancing sensitivity (both empathetic and reactive); Venus in Leo tends to be compassionate, but with an inclination toward drama and a little more willfulness than is usually associated with Venus. Both of these planets are involved in aspects today and tomorrow that will likely emphasize these shifts in mental and emotional tone — as well as how you’re thinking and feeling about what kind of newness you need.
