Publishing Schedule change

Hello! Just wanted to let you know that I was unable to find and prepare a worthy sex-and-relationships post for today. But I wanted to point you back to the fascinating, complex discussion that is still evolving under Eric’s piece from Monday. As Mercury begins slowly separating from its near-miss square to Nessus in Pisces, I suspect insights on the themes identified will continue to emerge. (The comments were up to 52 last time I checked!)

Also, I wanted to remind readers that I welcome suggestions of websites, writers and individual articles you’ve seen on the topics of sex and/or relationships (of all types) that you think deserved to be featured on Planet Waves. Thank you! — Amanda P.

Mercury Turnaround: The Pisces Factor

Mercury stations direct at 6:33 pm EDT this Thursday, June 11. It’s been retrograde in Gemini since May 18. I’m again hearing from some readers and people who speak to me spontaneously that this was the most difficult Mercury retrograde they’ve experienced, though not nearly as frequently as with the prior one in Aquarius.

The current retrograde is in Gemini, though really the most salient factor is the involvement of planets in Pisces — centaur Nessus, Neptune and centaur Chiron. Neptune in particular adds the factor of events below the level of normal perception. With Neptune one can proceed on a current of thought not fully connected to awareness and drift in some unusual directions, then awaken as if from a too-long nap on a hot day.

Your Gemini Birthday Reading for 2015-2016: Inspiration. Motivation. Clarity. Audio preview!

An astrology reading, a tarot reading and a live call-in session — the perfect way to celebrate another year on the planet. In that bold, clear Gemini style.

Dear Gemini Sun, Moon or Rising:

I have recorded your 2015-2016 birthday reading. As you know, Mercury retrograde in your solar return chart is helping you make discoveries, and it’s asking some interesting questions. Mars is driving you forward, while Mercury is making sure you consider the past carefully and thoughtfully.

The Cosmic Twins. Image by Lizanne Webb.

There seems to be some great mystery of becoming — the development of a new phase of your identity, and the truth and beauty of that will emerge over the next four seasons.

This is a fine time to have real clarity on how to work with these aspects, and that’s what I’m offering in my reading for your solar return (birthday).

This is a three-part audio reading, with a live call-in, crafted with more than 20 years experience as a professional astrologer.

This reading is also excellent for Gemini rising and Moon. And if you get it now, you can receive a significant discount — the price increases to $39.95 after the Sun leaves Gemini.

I design my readings to ease your mind, motivate you and spark new ideas. I see your potential and I explain it in a rather convincing way. It’s true that I’m reading your astrology — but what I am really doing is a deeply personal motivational presentation. I feed you ideas, images, concepts and viable solutions.

Get the Message: Sagittarius Full Moon

There’s an excellent old song by Bob Dylan called “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again.” The song is a take on that cosmic joke of being in the right place at the wrong time.

Double rainbow over uptown Kingston, NY.

Double rainbow over uptown Kingston, NY.

For example, finally getting the chance to do something, but then it’s no longer appropriate for you. You get the news you need, the day after you needed it.

Or you finally get the attention you want, but you can’t relate to people that way anymore. It’s an exuberant song, really, and I’ve included a link to one of the best versions in the player above. (The backing band is The Grateful Dead and this was recorded in 1987.)

This week’s Sagittarius Full Moon reminds me a little of that song. There’s a blend of optimism in Sagittarius style, idealism in Neptune style, and confusion or being pulled in two directions by Mercury and Mars in Gemini.

You just might find yourself in the very best place a little late, such as arriving after the party. The thing is, you still have time to get the message, to get yourself to the right place at the right time.

Saturday Midway in Merc. Retrograde: Hello, Asbolus

We are close to the halfway mark of the current Mercury retrograde. Overall, this is one of the most interesting retrogrades I’ve ever seen, due mostly to the pattern that Mercury is making with other planets as it backtracks through Gemini.

Artist’s concept of centaur Asbolus. Centaurs are similar to asteroids but have much longer orbits, and cross the orbits of other planets. The crater at the center of the image is fairly recent, believed to be less than 10 million years old.

Over the past week, there were many aspects — Mercury conjunct Mars, Mercury square Neptune, Mars square Neptune and others. This describes some significant churning of the emotional and mental waters.

And while it looks like it could be the source of difficulties, I’ve been working with another theory — that this retrograde will contain keys to solving intractable problems. I would say that much of the turbulence will serve as a wakeup call for any situation that’s still dominated by denial.

The midway mark is when Mercury and the Sun form what is called their interior conjunction. Traditionalists call this the inferior conjunction; I have rejected that language. There is nothing inferior about it, but it is interior in that Mercury is between the Earth and the Sun.

This happens at 8+ degrees, in an exact conjunction with a certifiably interesting minor planet — the centaur Asbolus. One of the earliest discovered centaurs, this body has a name that means ‘carbon dust’. I have noticed that when prominent in a chart, it describes those who survive extreme conditions. Carbon dust I take as a metaphor for that which all life has in common, the need to survive.

We’ll see how this manifests in lived reality. I consider this a proving moment for Asbolus — a test of what this planet is really about. We are describing Gemini here, which embodies the concept of dualism. This happens in the form of the mortal twin and the immortal twin, one representing body and one representing soul. This is a controversial concept, though the ancient Greeks may have been describing a perception rather than a reality.

One other interesting aspect is that Venus is about to square Eris. Venus has been making many aspects the past few days — including an opposition to Pluto, a square to Uranus, a trine to Chiron and now, a square to Eris. At the same time Venus will be quincunx a conjunction of Pallas and Pholus in Sagittarius.

This adds some detail to Mercury retrograde — on the emotional level. Venus is direct for the moment, but running a kind of gauntlet. Soon Mercury will be direct and Venus will head into Leo and a conjunction to Jupiter, though that’s the next chapter.

Special Update: Virgo Moon + Mercury, Mars, Neptune

I’ve written and recorded plenty the past few weeks on the Mercury-Mars-Neptune configuration. That is now at its peak, and to make things more intriguing, the Virgo Moon is in the mix right now — passing right through the degrees of Virgo that align with Mercury, Mars and Neptune.

Note that the Virgo Moon has a bond to Mercury (Virgo is one of its signs) so the current aspect has extra relevance and seeming reality.

What the Moon adds is a body-level experience; a direct sensory level of contact; and in Virgo, something that will filter through to the mental level as any number of emotions or cognitive patterns. Some will seem new; others will seem to be preexisting, perhaps from the distant past, such as childhood or familial relationships. Some may seem to be products of the immediate environment.

Whatever the case, this astrology is indeed happening and it will come to one peak over the next few hours. Other peaks will happen during the week, and in one form or another this astrology will last well into Friday, as the Mercury-Mars-Neptune pattern loosens up.

Cooling Martian Heat with Compassion

By Amy Elliott

I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values. — Ellen DeGeneres

If you’ve been watching the international news this past week, you saw the values DeGeneres speaks of in action as Irish voters chose to affirm the rights of same-sex couples to marry (becoming the first nation to do so by popular vote).

For some, this is surprising given how steeped in Catholicism Ireland is; you might be wondering if you can trust this victory in human rights to hold, given how embattled both sides of the issue have been — and given that Mercury is retrograde.

In fact, with Mercury in a square aspect to Neptune in Pisces (exact Friday), you might feel as if you are in a dream, wondering if you really just saw what you think you saw in Irish politics.

Yet there are times in our imperfect human dealings when Neptune’s higher octave of universal love and compassion manages to filter through and take substantive form. This looks like one of those moments, one that heralds a deeper cultural shift long in the works.

That said, Mercury and Neptune can both be a little tricksy, in their own way — especially in our mundane social dealings. It might be said that Mercury can represent the willful deceiver, and Neptune the willfully deceived. These two slippery fishes will come into focus early Wednesday, when retrograde Mercury conjoins Mars in Gemini (exact at 6:37 am EDT / 10:37 UTC).

Listening to the metronome

…and taking the holiday weekend off from blogging. I will catch you some time soon — stay tuned. Remember the name of the tune is Mercury conjunct Mars, square Neptune. There is all kinds of mojo in that clusterfuck and some of it’s gonna be astonishingly original. There’s plenty to be cautious of, especially anger not contained or properly directed, and/or resentment — though there’s the image of coming to terms with some deeper and once-denied, perhaps long-denied, truth.
