Homeopathy, my favorite branch of medicine, works with the idea that the patient’s main responsibility in his healing process is carefully describing the different states and conditions in his or her mind and body. This is a strange idea to many who are accustomed to western medicine because most doctors don’t care to have that much detail, and they are not interested in whether you have a little more of that condition when you’re feeling hungry or blue. But homeopathy works. Many people report feeling better just for having talked to the practitioner, long before a remedy is given or even finalized. There is wisdom in this and it can benefit you now. Keep careful track of what you experience and what you become aware of. Share it with someone or two people you know will care enough to give you objective feedback. If you do this over time, you’re likely to find that any problems you are facing vanish into the momentary chaos from which they emerged.

How many commercials have we seen promising some version of ‘the new you’, whether it was for a workout gadget, hair color or a mental outlook offered in a self-help book? Despite our collective obsession with personal renewal, this seems to be something that rarely works. Part of why involves our attachment to the past, and the typically human fear of change. Yet these tumble when we have a vision that we want to create with passion. With Uranus entering your birth sign for the next seven years, your sense of self becomes something entirely flexible, and you may have the feeling that anything is possible. That is true: yet what, exactly, do you want to be possible? Over the past few seasons you’ve had a clue. It may have seemed like something too good to be true, or impossible because it was so amazing. That’s the thing to guide yourself with. Don’t worry about whether it seems possible, or concern yourself with plotting every step in the process. You grew from a zygote into a fetus into a child and then an adult understanding nothing about how that worked on the anatomical level. Thank goodness for DNA. The DNA of Uranus in your sign suggests not merely personal renewal but rather ongoing personal revolution. It may take a while to figure out what I mean, but it will become obvious. From the inside, this may feel like the desire to burst free even though you did precisely that yesterday; to drop every pretense you ever put up; to act boldly and immediately, instead of taking years to plan things that rarely happen. Something inside is seeking to set itself free. In short, this transit brings out your true nature, as if a veil is being lifted off of your psyche. Whatever may have happened during the past four seasons, trust that the world has made room for you, for the work you want to do, and the person you want to be in your deepest relationships. This is a new kind of patience — one based not on waiting, but in cultivating trust in yourself, practiced like yoga from day to day.

I suggest you give yourself one last birthday present, and if you haven’t given yourself any yet, then you’ll need to find two others, please. As for the third — write yourself a long letter, explaining the meaning of all the things you’re pondering, meditating on and struggling with in life. This is not just a writing exercise. It’s clear that you have a lot of information to offer yourself, but that you’re unlikely to notice it if you don’t get something in writing — something long and rambling, because the pearls you’re seeking could come up at any moment, including in the P.S., or as a joke written on the envelope.

Your ideas about sex are as important as the physical aspect of eroticism. It would help to remember that judgments aren’t really ideas. To make the distinction easy, let’s say that a judgment is not fun, and an idea is fun. So play with, explore and get to know your ideas. See who will play along, and by that, I mean see who will go daring places with you. Let yourself go past the place where you fear the judgment of others, then beyond what you would usually consider right or wrong. Some of the most adventurous pleasure you can have is by pushing and stretching your concepts and thresholds about what you are ‘supposed to feel’ and letting yourself feel exactly what you do. You’ll know when to bring your body into the story, alone or with someone else.

You not only have a right to change your mind; you would be wise to do so. A mind is not a stone sculpture or a stone fortress. It’s a living system that must respond to its own perceptions and assessments as well as to the facts it’s presented with. This is called being realistic. Even if others try to hold you to what you believed last week you’re under no obligation to do what they say. In fact it would be a good policy not to advertise your beliefs or ideas too much. You’ll make all the progress you need reflecting in a quiet space or putting your energy into exploring your creative process. While on the one hand not everything you believe is true on the other hand everything you create and every step in your personal development is genuinely valid. But only if you say so.

In order to get out of the sense that the rug is being pulled from under your feet, just keep telling yourself that the past is over. In the potent words of the Course In Miracles, you might use the prayer, “The past is gone. It cannot touch me.” Be thankful for this; what you thought gave you security back then turned out to do nothing of the kind. But you have other options now — so choose well.

As I have written many times, one interesting thing about your sign is your tendency to have two distinct careers. I say this knowing that many people walk around with an assortment of business cards, and have five different web identities. I don’t mean that — I mean that you have the potential, and the inclination, to be a master of two distinct professional activities. On the surface, they may seem to have little in common. Yet they are informed by the same values. You do them for the same inner reasons, though they might appear to fulfill different outer purposes. Right now I suggest you emphasize the unity of these two modes of your existence, particularly if you’ve been feeling out of balance about your work. Do your best to feel good about whatever you’re doing, which will help you succeed and also provide a positive frame of reference for the decisions you’re about to make.
