The Sun may be reminding you of certain factors from the distant past, including some things you would prefer to forget. You might forget the event but not the feeling associated with it; I suggest you stay focused on the feeling, which might be lurking just outside the range of your normal perception. There is something here about approval or acceptance among a group of some kind — it could be your family, it could be your friends, it could be a circumstance that reminds you of both. In case you get the idea that you’re avoiding something, I would propose that actually, you’re doing your best to immerse yourself in something deeply personally relevant, creative or daring. If you’re wondering what that is, consider the experiences that you wanted to have as a child but were not able to have. You may still be feeling a hankering to try some of that, or a lot of it. When you shift in that direction, notice the social rules that seem to hold you back. Observe whether you think you have any power over them.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Virgo monthly for November 2006.

How deep do psychological patterns go? Well, they seem to reach back many generations, but for a version of the story with good practical application, we can learn a lot by considering the years before we learned how to walk. We bumped into a lot of things, people, feelings and experiences in those days. We were picked up and carried around against our will. We had a lot to say but lacked the words to say it. Think of yourself as going through a phase as a cosmic toddler. Notice, over the next few weeks, what just comes to you, what you bump into, and what you are told without having to ask. Notice what seems to pick you up and move you. Apply the metaphor to the contents of your mind. What has been coming to the surface lately, and why does it do such a good job of defying words, or even coherent ideas?

I am concerned that your willingness to make some kind of sacrifice is a relic of an old self-concept that can no longer serve you. Look carefully at where you’re exerting the most effort in your life right now and ask if it’s necessary. Consider this especially if there seemed to be a lot of support from others around something a few months ago that’s no longer gathering energy. Another clue is if you feel like a certain way of life has deprived you of healthy sex. By definition, this involves a mutual flow of energy, a clear agreement, and a basis in pleasure rather than in power or security.

Some of this desire is in the way of exchange of energy — physical, financial or otherwise. Some is on the level of the agreements you make. You are bound only by the contracts you mutually agree to with others which is a fine place to be.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Scorpio weekly for Feb. 11, 2000.

There’s an article on Planet Waves about something called “compersion” — that is, the love we feel when others feel love, or that the love others feel when we love someone besides them. Our models of relationships parallel our market economy, where everything can be arranged with the swipe of a plastic card. We do indeed take people as property, we use them as such, and typically dispose of them when we’re finished, often feeling like we were the ones who were used. Compersion — that is, a concept of love that includes freedom as its main ingredient — is often seen as a radical idea. It may be, but surely, with the way your potential for love is expanding every day, it also would be a very practical one.

You should be having no trouble keeping busy these days, but the question is, with what? Your charts suggest that you’re popular at work and in love. Well, popular may be stretching things, but there’s plenty of action, and you can either have dates or your existing date is actually available. Business, however, has that slightly-too-much feeling, and it seems like your inbox is heaping itself full. If I had to guess, this is eating most of your free time. Here we have one of the central dilemmas of existence: the supposed competition of love and work. Your heart says that it’s more important that you have fun, and I would second the motion. There is an escape hatch on the business front, and in a word, it’s efficiency. Do things right so you only have to do them twice. You would also benefit from jumping to a higher level than the one you’re on; you seem to get caught in a mental bog frequently, consisting mainly of your sense of responsibility rather than the work itself. If you prioritize love — not socializing, but actual intimacy — your life is much likelier to come into balance. And there will come a natural limit to the frenetic pace of professional effort that takes effect later in the month when Mercury stations retrograde.

Scorpio is a somewhat strange energy to have in your house of security, since it’s all about plunging into the deep dark waters of the psyche, and coming out a different person (something you do fairly regularly, and you’re safe knowing that you can). Seen another way, it’s the image of living with a swamp in the basement of your house, wondering if you’re going to get swallowed, or if the whole house is going to sink — and calling that shelter. Saturn making its way through this region of your chart for the next 10 seasons is about getting onto dry ground. It’s about shoring up your foundations and clearing out inner space. As part of this journey, you’re going to stabilize emotionally, which will be good for you and the people you care about. As part of this emotional stability, you will be doing an inventory of family influences from your early childhood, and making sure that you have them contained and confined to your own inner space — this way, you won’t pass them on to anyone younger than you are. One of the over-arching themes of this transit is learning how to feel safe. The combination of Saturn and Scorpio may conspire to do this in strange ways — but if you work with these influences, you will get the job done.
