Planet Waves Weekly Horoscope — Jan. 7, 2016, #1082 | By Len Wallick
Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Could be you are seeing everything clearly and not encountering any obstacles. If that is the case for you, cultivate gratitude for your good fortune. Additionally, endeavor to show compassion without judgment toward others who are having a more difficult time. Should your life feel more like walking through an unfamiliar room in the dark, use that metaphor to develop solutions. What, for example, would be the equivalent of bringing and using a flashlight to better find your way? If you have such a tool available, what would possess you to neglect using it? In the event that you do not have access to illumination, exercise caution. Walking sideways, for instance, can prevent stubbed toes and bruised shins. There are alternatives to cursing the darkness, provided you are not overly attached to either cursing or darkness. — by Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Think of all your endeavors as a journey, and life will probably feel easier than if you were to become fixated on a goal or destination. Envision yourself as a child going through the proverbial stages of growing up, and you will be less likely to perceive crisis in your life. If you choose to see the world as a place of higher education rather than achievement, you might very well keep yourself from being brought low by discouragement. You have an advantage accorded to few right now, in that there is a simple way to determine whether you are doing the right thing. If you feel more energy coming in than going out, let that be your sign to override what other people might say about your course in life at this time. Believe what you are feeling, and don’t let anybody tell you that you are lazy for taking a natural path. — by Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Make ‘returning’ your theme and you will be in greater harmony with the world. What specific form returning takes will depend on who you are and what you perceive your circumstances to be. In general, however, what you are best off reverting to should probably look like a place or time in company with others rather than in isolation. If you have had a setback that has set you apart, for example, now is the time to begin referring to yourself as the ‘Comeback Kid’ regardless of your age, and whether or not you see any opportunity for reunions. You will also want to contemplate taking proactive steps to catch up or seek closure with classmates, business partners, chums or even lovers from days gone by. Don’t worry about whether your return will be welcomed. So long as you offer what you seek (and honor others’ need for space, when expressed), arms will open. — by Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — It is now more important than ever for you to be present in the moment. Start small. Count the steps on every flight of stairs you climb. Make note of every eye’s color. Listen for birds. Identify trees. Pay attention to the weather. At the end of every day, count the ways it was different from the day before. After a while, you will notice patterns and trends that are not constant, but changing. With the passage of a little more time, you will get a sense of what direction changes are taking. It may seem ridiculously simple, but keeping constant tabs on your present will liberate you from what is holding you back and what is inhibiting your forward motion as well. Eventually, you will reach a point where a very special moment shared with a very special somebody finds you doing and saying just the right thing at just the right time. — by Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Odds are you have made your mind up about something or other after a long period of contemplation. Let that be a good thing. You owe it to yourself to have faith in your purposeful deliberations. You should also give yourself credit for having overcome impulse to find your truth. There is one other favor you should grant yourself, however. Whatever you have decided upon, do not make an irrevocable commitment until the last possible moment. Even as sure as you may be about where your heart is, give your mind a chance to change while it is still possible to do so with grace. This is not to say you should be fickle or put things off. By all means, move in the direction of your choice; but gradually, one step at a time. Make each step only after you are sure and unshakable in your resolve not to retrace it. — by Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — The most responsible, grounded and mature thing you can do right now might be to lighten up. Rather than settle for a few choice moments when you can blow off steam every once in a while, look to change your lifestyle. To do so you need not quit your job, give away your possessions or take leave of your senses. Rather, respect your senses and take care of them. The objective is to modulate what appear to be some rather significant oscillations in stimulus so that you don’t have to spend so much time recovering from emotional (and even physical) exhaustion in response. To begin with, keep a log of your time spent on all sorts of electronic media and make changes based on the results. Then, take a little more time each day to use your hands in ways that free your mind and heal your body. — by Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Enough with humility for the time being. If you have not conducted yourself to the satisfaction of others, you also know that very few are worthy of judging you. If you do not consider yourself at least the equal of anybody else, ask yourself what it would take to feel that way. If the answer is that you have to be something other than what you are, take that as a sign that you are selling yourself short. Nobody is perfect, and nobody should burden themselves with trying to be perfect. If you are going to take on any aspirations at this time, let them be of your own creation. Your sociable side may want to be ‘where it’s at’, but your soul will be more content if you focus on finding out where you are at and placing yourself there. Granted, being true to yourself may not be easy at first, but eventually it will be right. — by Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Knowledge is not intrinsically a bad thing. Neither is power. Both, however, can be dangerous if you are not grown up enough to handle them. If there is anybody who has earned their qualifications to rise from ignorance and step into power, it is you — just as you are in this very moment. About now, you should be able to look back at whatever trials and tribulations you have been through for the last three years or so and recognize that there was a purpose to what happened and what you did with it. Step back a bit and look at your life with admiration rather than remorse, and you will see a precious and hard-won container of your own creation. That container will hold the knowledge you have gained and manifest all the power you need, but only after you resolve to become it, as it becomes you. — by Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — In the long run, time will prove to be on your side. It simply may not seem that way right now. That’s the reason you need to find some faith to tide you over, like a wisely chosen snack can help you keep going between meals. Just as with a snack, you should not overdo the faith thing. Take only what you need. Remember that its purpose is to sustain you. Even though it would be best if you chose to have faith in yourself first and foremost, it does not really matter what form of faith works for you. So long as it is working for you and you are not a slave to it, any form of faith will probably do you a lot of good this year. What you learn from employing (rather than being employed by) faith will also stand you in good stead when your relationship with time turns around, and you are finally on top of it again. — by Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Pride in excess can indeed lead to a fall. In your case, such a danger is unlikely. Ask anybody who loves you, and you will almost certainly hear that their affections are informed and supported by the pride they have in you. Hence, your task is to become proficient with pride. To begin with, get and keep yourself constantly present to what you should rightfully be proud of. In all probability it is achievement, as well as persistence. Do not neglect, however, to be proud of how good you have been to other people. Time and time again you have been supportive above and beyond the call of friendship. Over and over you have gone beyond offering a helping hand to follow through. As result, many have manifested what was once only a dream for them. Of all that, you can and should be justly proud. — by Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Just because it’s a new year does not mean you should be doing something different. If anybody knows the value of sticking with what works, it is you. The idea, however, is not to get stuck once what works has run its course. Therefore, endeavor to keep going as you have while keeping an eye out for your chance to make things work even better. The most important thing for you to keep in working order at this time is your body. When in doubt, choose rest over strain. Listen to your body and heed its calls for sleep and nourishment. Err on the side of caution when it comes to staying well. If you have your health, nearly anything else is possible, and all sorts of possibilities are soon to open up — provided you can be both physically fit and mentally capable of releasing attachment to what no longer serves you. — by Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — If you can figure out a way build a castle in the sky (which you just might be able to do), more power to you. Most castles, however, need a foundation. That foundation, in turn, needs to be laid in a place where it will endure, so that the time and effort you put into construction will be worth your while. Fortunately, you temporally have the ability to read both nature and time with the ease of reading a newspaper. The only thing that could trip you up is doubt in your ability to do so. For that reason, you will want to work on becoming more comfortable with taking risks. This does not mean becoming more reckless, or even more courageous. Instead, you need to trust and continuously develop your ability to see how all the possible outcomes the future holds will eventually collapse into a single reality — one that you could see from the beginning. — by Len Wallick

One Day At A Time

Have you ever noticed the modern cultural tendency for looking back into the past near the end of December? Top ten lists abound, along with “best of,” “worst of,” “most” and “least of.” Then, all of a sudden, on the first day of January it’s all about looking ahead and making predictions.

len-wallick-logo

Such an approach confers more power to the civil calendar than it probably deserves — especially this year.

You don’t need astrology to tell you to be present and take things one day at a time during the first week of 2016. One look at the dips and trips performed by U.S. stock markets yesterday, and you might get the message not to get ahead of yourself.

Nonetheless, the astrology this week is there to remind you of two things. First, the past (especially the recent past) is still very much with us for the time being. Next, the future is highly conditional and dependent on what you do with every moment now.

Begin (as all good astrologers often do) with the Sun. The Sun is the center of the solar system. Its gravity holds the whole shebang together. The Sun is also the most reliable and useful point of reference from which to understand and gain perspective on the Moon and planets, both individually and holistically.

As a case in point, the Sun by definition moves around the zodiac at a rate of approximately one degree per day. Hence, the time the Sun takes to move through planetary aspects gives us some perspective on how the constituent planets in question are currently relating to each other.

For example, you may have heard tell that the era-defining aspects of Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn are a thing of the past. Au contraire mon frere. Witness how the Capricorn Sun’s conjunction with Pluto tonight at 10:28 pm EST (03:28:07 UTC tomorrow morning) will be followed by a solar square to Uranus at 7:22 am EST (12:22:06 UTC) on Thursday. In other words, the Sun this week is telling us that Uranus and Pluto are less than two degrees removed from being precisely 90 degrees apart.

Yes, the seven separations of exactly 90 degrees from Uranus to Pluto are behind us. Even so, nearly any astrologer you talk to will confirm that a separation of 92 degrees is still a fully functional square aspect. And so it will remain for Uranus and Pluto for quite a while longer. We are not out of those woods yet.

You might do well to see the woods you are slowly emerging from equally as well as any trees up ahead of you. Nor should you be too eager to leave behind the empowerment implied by the Uranus-Pluto square. You just might wish you had these interesting times back someday.

Speaking of back, there’s nothing quite like a sign-ruling planet beginning a retrograde to remind you not to get ahead of yourself. This is one of those rare weeks when such an occasion happens twice.

Mercury’s station retrograde this morning just before 8:06 am EST (13:05:34 UTC) was the first such occasion. Jupiter will follow suit with its own station retrograde at 11:40 pm EST on Thursday night (04:40:08 UTC Friday). In both cases, the implication is that revising and reviewing are still appropriate activities, even though you are no longer writing 2015 on your letterheads or checks.

So keep your feet firmly between your head and the center of the Earth as your standing (and ambulating) protocol for this week at least. There is no need to live in the past, but you would be best not to forget it so quickly either. Neither should you be leaning so far forward as to fall on your face at the moment. There will be 12 full months plus one (leap year) day in this year. You will have all the time you need to get ahead as the year goes on.

For now, take things one day at a time. Do what you can. Let that be enough. Take care of your wellbeing as a priority. Don’t let the bastards get you down. They will have their days, you will have yours. If it comes down to it, have your days later if it means having them better.

New Year, New Sky

The civil calendar used by most of you is based on the amount of time it takes for our Earth to orbit the Sun. Even so, the beginning of the civil new year every Jan. 1 does not consistently correspond with any especially meaningful point in the relationship between the Earth and Sun.

len-wallick-logo

Similarly, the calendar subdivision called a month is named after the Moon. The months, however, do not follow the schedule of lunar cycles (from one New Moon to the next) with any sort of meaningful precision.

Nevertheless, there is an undeniable (albeit residual) connection between how you customarily mark the passage of months and years with rhythms of the sky. For that reason alone, it is worth noting what is new up above as we observe the beginning of a civil new year here below.

Interestingly, the new year 2016 is being ushered in with, marked by and immediately followed up by three instances of one of he most meaningful types of events for astrologers: planets moving from one sign to another.

It is fair to compare a planet changing signs to an actor changing costume. It is no small thing. With movement from one field of expression to another comes an implicit change of character. Furthermore, the nature of the planet in question can, in combination with its new background, usually be observed to correspond to at least some of what you observe in your life. When several planets move from one sign to another in a short period of time, there are indications of several factors combining to indicate the quality of the time.

If there is anything to such indications, 2016 will be a year when you will be able to make a difference more than in most years that have come before. It all started with Venus changing signs yesterday. As noted in this space on Tuesday, to have Venus leave Scorpio behind to express itself through the raiment of Sagittarius includes a corresponding implication: that prioritizing the expression of your conscience would be an appropriate way for you to participate in kind.

Tomorrow, shortly before 9:20 pm EST (02:19:41 UTC Jan. 2), Mercury marks the first day of 2016 by entering Aquarius. Then, just after 9:32 am EST (14:32:20 UTC) Sunday, Mars will depart Libra to ingress Scorpio. It is not often that three sign-ruling planets move from one signature to another in a handful of days. It is even more seldom that such a nearly concurrent shift takes place as one calendar year is transitioning to the next.

You know from your own experience that initial conditions are a big factor in how nearly anything eventually turns out. One example is how the nature of your morning effects the rest of your day. So, to get a hint of how 2016 might well turn out, it would probably be a good idea to consider what Mercury, Venus and Mars have in common.

That would be the label “personal planet.” In other words, because their orbits around the Sun (and through the 12 zodiac signs) repeat many times in a typical human lifetime, Mercury, Venus and Mars are thought to correspond with recurring cycles in your life more than is the case with objects that move more slowly.

That’s how the quality of 2016 might be anticipated to emphasize that the conduct of your personal life will be no small factor in the world. Such will especially be the case if you can bring yourself to initiate some changes of your own. Significantly, the first day of January is often taken as an occasion to make resolutions for the new year.

To be in step with the astrology, then, you might want to resolve to make some conscientious resolutions as regards to your own character and modalities of expression — at least to begin with.

Stage One of Vision Quest -- the written readings for all 12 signs -- have just been published! Order all 12 signs here, or individual signs here.

Stage One of Vision Quest — the written readings for all 12 signs — have just been published! Order all 12 signs here, or get individual signs here.

After all, neither Mercury nor Mars will proceed to plunge ahead in the same way Venus will. Mercury’s first ingress to Aquarius will be quickly followed by the beginning of its first retrograde of the year beginning on Jan. 5. That retrograde will return Mercury to Capricorn on Jan. 8.

Hence, if some of your resolutions require you to review, recalculate or simply re-live a bit of what you have been through in order to move on, have faith that some of the more promising initial conditions of 2016 can be revisited once you go through whatever process of closure will be necessary for you move on.

Things will be only slightly different for Mars, which rules Scorpio in addition to Aries. While the red planet will indeed complete a full-length tour of its Scorpio domain, a retrograde beginning in Sagittarius on April 17 will compel Mars to make a slight return to Scorpio — as if to tie up a few loose ends before it consolidates its gains later this year.

Therefore, don’t be discouraged by any apparent setbacks when making or working towards your personal resolutions for 2016. So long as you are doing the right thing (Venus), being mindful (Mercury) of completing necessary processes, and applying your energies (Mars) with consistency and patience, indications are that you will not be alone in enjoying the benefits of making meaningful changes in your character and means of expression in the year to come..

Rapid Transit

Getting from one place to another quickly is imperative for many at this time of year. After all, less time in transit means more time to enjoy a brief holiday respite with friends or family. That’s one way Venus is probably correlating with some of your own life right now.

len-wallick-logo

Even if you are not among the tens of millions on the road or in the air recently, it’s very possible you might feel as though you have been. The world itself is moving rapidly.

Venus itself is currently moving around the zodiac circle at a relatively brisk pace, and getting faster by the day. Its ingress to Sagittarius Wednesday represents the second sign change for Venus this month.

It was only about three and a half weeks ago, on Dec. 5, when Venus plunged into fixed, watery Scorpio. Fittingly, a lot of emotional moments (a water sign thing) have presented themselves in rapid succession

There has been a lot of enthusiasm (an emotional mindset that often corresponds with Venus), which some have indulged (an activity related to Venus) in full. By the same token, many have felt it necessary to resist getting carried away (a fixed sign thing). Yet others have been compelled to simply endure (another fixed sign correlation) one form of trial or another during the rapid transit of Venus through Scorpio.

Venus in Sagittarius (from Wednesday until Jan. 23) will implicitly be a whirlwind tour as well, but another sort of trip entirely. Instead of a predominantly emotional background to the abundant values and receptive virtues of Venus, you will probably find yourself being more instinctively proficient than usual.

Given how Sagittarius is ruled by magnanimous Jupiter, the instinct that distinguishes between right and wrong (conscience) is likely to be especially sharp. When you add in the fact that Mercury will be retrograde from Jan. 5 to Jan. 25, you might even want to prioritize conscience over intellect for the next four weeks or so — especially when you need to make a quick decision.

Indeed, Venus will soon be moving faster than Mercury (which is slowing down on the way to turning around). All the more reason to default towards doing what’s right. By way of determining what’s right, of course, you will want and need to take others into account, in addition to your own interests.

Stage One of Vision Quest -- the written readings for all 12 signs -- will be released in a couple days! Order all 12 signs here, or individual signs here.

Stage One of Vision Quest — the written readings for all 12 signs — will be released in a couple days! Order all 12 signs here, or individual signs here.

As a matter of fact, when you consider the spiritual associations often to attributed to Sagittarius, the term “enlightened self-interest” could come to be more understandable and vital for you than ever.

In order to practice enlightened self-interest in the environment implied by Venus in Sagittarius, be constantly mindful of how your actions, words, even thoughts might conceivably boomerang right back at you rather promptly. Then, make your choices with the assumption that such a rapid return on your ‘investments’ in the world are indeed probable.

At least one thing is for certain. Venus will not be in Sagittarius for very long. If you want, you can simply choose to go on living your life without any consideration for either the perils or potentials of its rapid passage. You could simply allow things to happen to you with the assurance that “this, too, shall pass.”

But consider the extent to which you might be able to to expand, open and pioneer new vistas of conscientious interaction with the world. Why would you simply want to stand by when you will implicitly be able to get from one place to another in your life with such effect?

An Experiment In Awareness

If you are aware, you are halfway there. That maxim applies to many (if not most) of the situations you will ever face in the course of your life. Rarely need you know all the details in depth. So long as you are conscious of what’s going on in general, you will nearly always have all of the information you need.

len-wallick-logo

For instance, if you intend to cross a street, simply pausing to look both ways before stepping off the curb makes a huge difference in the probable outcome.

The same principle applies with weather forecasts, purchasing decisions, relationships and (yes) astrology. A little bit of awareness goes a long way to help you understand what you are observing. That understanding, in turn, helps you to make good decisions.

Once you can correlate what you observe here on Earth with some basic information about the sky, you can often put two and two together all by yourself. As noted here on Wednesday, for example, simply knowing a little about the historical context of today’s Cancer Full Moon has the potential of indicating what it’s now time for in your life.

It so happens that today’s Full Moon will almost immediately be followed by another astrological development that will allow you to at least conduct an experiment in awareness. Shortly after 10:52 pm EST tonight (03:52:23 UTC tomorrow), about five months of Uranus retrograding back through the middle of Aries will come to a close. From that point, until Mercury begins its next retrograde on Jan. 5, all of the sign-ruling planets (Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) will be in direct motion.

There are a lot of stories about what retrogrades mean, but none of those accounts can carry as much weight as your own personal experience. First, however, you need a baseline for purposes of comparison. That is what the next 10 days will provide. All you have to do is pay attention.

Vision-Quest_button

Beginning tomorrow and through the fourth day of next year, pay attention to how your life proceeds. Take special note of any trends that seem somehow unusual.

Endeavor to be especially conscious of that which does not proceed (for good or ill) as your experience would lead you to expect. Keep track of both pleasant and unpleasant surprises.

As the events of the remaining days of this year and the first days of next year gradually add up, see if you can discern any patterns developing. Then, when Mercury stations retrograde on Jan. 5, keep an eye out for any changes in the direction of developments, and in what parts of your life those changes take place.

While the phenomenon is not as rare as a Full Moon on Christmas, it is not often that the entire solar system (as represented by the sign-ruling planets) is in direct motion. Now that you have read this, you have awareness of when that situation will begin and when it will end. Try experimenting with that awareness. It could very well be a life-changing experience.

It Must Be Time

For most of you reading this, the Full Moon on Friday will be the first to take place on Christmas day since 1977. That’s nearly four decades. By most human standards 38 years is a long time — enough for a lot of metaphorical water to have passed under the proverbial bridge.

len-wallick-logo

Adding extra meaning is that any Full Moon on Dec. 25 would (by definition) oppose the Capricorn Sun from Cancer — the water sign where the Moon rules supreme.

Hence, what we have coming up is a day with meaning for nearly anybody. It will be a major holiday, wrapped in astronomical significance inside of an implicitly powerful astrological event. By all indications then, it must be time to at least evaluate all that has taken place since there was last a Full Moon for Christmas, nearly half of an average human lifetime ago.

Jimmy Carter was spending his first Christmas as President of the U.S. in 1977. In many ways, it’s encouraging that he is still alive. Of course, there are many who have transitioned from earthly life since then. The cinema pioneer Charlie Chaplin, for example, passed away only hours before the Moon was precisely full over his Swiss home on the morning of Dec. 25, 1977.

Under the Christmas tree of more affluent households in 1977 you might have found one of the first home computers or gaming consoles. If you were in the U.S. and poor, Christmas dinner may have been made possible by food stamps.

Were you to go out for a holiday movie back then, you might have seen the very first Star Wars film (released in May, but still in some theaters at the end of the year). Or perhaps you would have gone to see Saturday Night Fever, which played a big role in disco going mainstream. Punk rock and improvisational artists rapping along to accompaniment by DJs and their rudimentary turntable setups were also emerging from the cultural underground into wider (and ever more commercial) popularity at that time.

Were you to look up at the Cancer Full Moon on Christmas night of 1977, it would have been a pretty sight with Jupiter right next to it in a Cancer conjunction. Contemplating that tableau, you might have been thinking about the two Voyager spacecraft launched earlier that year on their way to a grand tour of our solar system to take close-ups of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Or you may even have been among the few musing on Chiron, which was discovered less than two months beforehand.

Vision-Quest_button

For the Cancer Full Moon coming up on Friday morning at 6:11 am EST (11:11 UTC), Jupiter will once again be in the sky with it, but further East in Virgo. You will also have reason to think about the two Voyager spacecraft once again, as both are still working and sending us data from the edge of interstellar space. Chiron, in the interim, has earned a column of its own alongside the sign-ruling planets in the online Swiss Ephemeris — which is a pretty darned amazing distinction.

Because the parallels between the Cancer Full Moon of Dec. 25, 1977 and the one coming up on Friday are many and compelling, it may very well be worth your while to make some comparisons of your own. This is not just any Full Moon. It is one of those rare events featuring an astrological return in confluence with astronomy, the civil calendar, popular culture, economics, technology, art and ancient mysteries all looping around to intersect in ways that indicate, to any thoughtful person, that it must be time for something.

Precisely what it’s time for will be your privilege to help determine, because you have the good fortune to be alive now. Regardless of how you feel about Christmas, you might want to accept the gift of that privilege and put it to some good use. These days must certainly, in some way, be made into a special time by — and for — you.

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Don’t despair should there be conflicts at home, or conflicts over shared resources. Neither should you blame yourself if some people are determined not to get along with others. When you get right down to it, you are the only person you can control. Therefore, keep up your good work on your own personal evolution into an ever more mature and responsible human being. Continue to notice the impressive power you have to change your focus and choose your point of view. Further the devotion you have shown towards regulating your responses. Do not doubt that others have noticed (and are impressed by) the work you do on, and for, yourself. Most of all, look within for ways in which you remain attached to parts of your personality that no longer suit who you are in the process of becoming. Pay special attention to times when you feel the need to protect yourself from real or imagined slights. — By Len Wallick

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — At your very best, you are as good an example of compassion as there is anywhere. You are also among the few who know the difference between compassion and empathy. In addition, you can almost certainly express that difference with clarity if you need to. If anything trips you up, it might be the practice of what you express. To make sure you are on your game to the max, here is a checklist for you to review as a guideline: First, do your best to get the rest you need when you need it. That’s especially true this time of year. If ever there is a time when you are not yourself, it is when you are fatigued. Next, keep track of when you are in judgment. Even when your proficiency for assessment is spot on (which it usually is), it’s important to consider whether you are being hasty. Finally, remember that your passions are just as valuable an asset as your compassion is. — By Len Wallick

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Showing enthusiasm is good on the whole. Sharing enthusiasm is nearly always better. If there is anybody who can spread the cheer, it’s you. The key is finding a vehicle through which you can express your zeal in a collaborative manner. In all likelihood, the best way to convey your ardor is through a collective enterprise with creative and artistic means. While there is no reason for you to rule out other types of endeavor, you will want to consider what you have to lose (as well as what you stand to gain) as either a competitor or a solo act. While it is all well and good to distinguish yourself from the crowd, you should also contemplate whether there would in fact be any net gain at all if you were to win the world while alienating friends. Even though your style is impressive and convincing, you also have substance — which is most apparent only when pooled in participation. — By Len Wallick

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — In some way or another it is your time to shine. The question is how. Being a proverbial flash in the pan would not do justice to either all the hard work you have put in or the talent you have developed. Make it your business to establish a legacy while in the spotlight. You stand an excellent chance of turning a temporary triumph into an enduring reputation to be proud of. In order to make the most of this time in your life, be aware of how each moment can (and usually does) make a difference. While first impressions do count for a lot, try to make every impression count. Don’t become careless when in the company of those familiar to you. If ever there were a time to turn over a new leaf, even in marginal or damaged relationships, it is now. This does not mean you should fake it in order to make it. Be truthful. Be trustworthy. Above all, do everything you can to make others feel safe in your company. — By Len Wallick

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Seek hidden resources. Go beyond searching for coins in the couch. Look inside yourself for the sort of proficiencies that usually come to the fore only in do-or-die situations. See if you can develop a means to access your spontaneous creativity at will. In all probability, the first step towards developing your improvisational potential will entail building your confidence in areas of your life where you have had setbacks. Let no cause be lost. Even if it means starting small, start over immediately whenever you feel either defeated or discouraged. Remember that the greatest success stories are not distinguished by lack of failure so much as a refusal to give up or give out. Once you attain a level of confidence that is defiant in the face of either uncertainty or fear, you will inevitably have the encouraging experience of doing better than you expected — precisely because you tried again. — By Len Wallick

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Trust the power of your imagination. Don’t dismiss even your most far-fetched fantasies. It’s probably been more than a decade since you last had the power to manifest that you now possess. That power is not so much conferred by material resources or even your industrious productivity; rather, it is your virtue that now makes nearly anything possible. While your moral integrity may not be tangible, it is for you the first and most important requisite to realizing your fondest dreams and highest aspirations. Therefore, make it your first priority to discern and do the right thing in even the most trivial of situations. Even when it appears as if you are putting yourself at a disadvantage, always play fair. Good fortune comes and goes. Both bad and lucky breaks always even out. Being consistently and persistently ethical, however, will provide you with both a profound spiritual advantage and momentum that cannot be overcome so long as you press it. — By Len Wallick

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — If you feel as though you are in a bind, let your need for comfort guide you towards finding your way out of it. This would mean recognizing and addressing your own needs before attending to the satisfaction of others. This does not mean you should neglect any obligations you have taken on. Nor need you fail to fulfill any commitments you have made. Rather, you should mediate on your own behalf just as you so often have for the sake of others. In other words, seek to negotiate as only you can. Rather than compromise your wellbeing, seek a compromise that will assure it. Have faith that those you compromise with will show faith in your ability and determination to return value for value given. If, in seeking the relief that you need, you do not find the reciprocation you want, you will at least have come to a greater understanding of which relationships are worthy of you, and which are not. — By Len Wallick

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Love will out. So long as you align yourself with loving causes and loving ways, even the coldest hearts will not be able to keep you down for long. This you know. Of all the truths your perceptive heart has felt in the course of your life, the prevalence of love has surely been one of them. The question remains, however, whether you show your hard-earned understanding of love and its ways in how you show your feelings. You know all too well that fear of having your feelings hurt can drive you to hide your love away from anyone but yourself. You are also very aware of the futility of concealing your affections, even when you are tempted to justify such behavior as somehow noble. Therefore, act while you can, even if it means taking an emotional risk, to express your love in ways that demand nothing in return from those with whom you share your heart’s wisdom. You will be glad you took the chance. — By Len Wallick

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Forgiveness is among the greatest gifts, both for those who receive it from others and for those who afford it to others. For that reason alone, you might well want to make forgiving your own personal cause for the foreseeable future. Speaking of the future, you might also want to either recover or fortify your native ability to forego worrying. For if you can bring yourself to release attachment to any resentment regarding that which is past, you will almost surely feel more like yourself. In addition, if you can more consciously cultivate your innate faith that your best efforts will result in things turning out for the best, you will almost certainly behave more like the magnanimous and generous person you were born to be. This is not to say that it is always easy to forgive. You, above all, know very well the temptations of indulging entitlement and grudge. Fortunately, you also know how to respect what and how others feel, when you don’t entirely understand. — By Len Wallick

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — If you crave being treated as a person with authority, you now have it within your power to attain satisfaction on that count. You simply have to go about getting that gratification in an effective manner. Much as with respect, authority is not something you can simply demand. It must be earned. In your heart of hearts you know you would not be content to be just another empty suit. Therefore, rather than pressing others to meet your needs, impress them with your willingness to meet theirs. The gratitude you receive in turn will confer more authority than any amount of money can buy. Furthermore, the influence you gain by devoting yourself to service and justice will make you a far more powerful figure than those who stoop to conquer and coerce. Finally, to assure that attaining your aspirations does not lead to your being conflicted, begin now with a concerted effort to resolve any resentment you may still hold towards authority figures in your life. — By Len Wallick

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Many are those who go to a lot of trouble and expense to have what some call a “peak experience.” Fortunately, you need not be among them. Indications are that all the thrills you want will soon be seeking you. All that’s required on your part is making your efforts consistent with your purposes. To do that, begin by updating and being clear about what purpose you have for your life from this point on. It could very well be that you have already been what you previously wanted to be, done what you already set out to do and gone where you originally aspired to go. If so, you may need to at least review (if not reset) your priorities. Once that review is completed, you will be better able to evaluate whether your choices and actions are efficiently coordinated and working together smoothly towards what you have not yet been, done or gone. A little tune-up is all it should take for you to find new life in your life. — By Len Wallick

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Do not fear that which is easy. Divest yourself from any conditioning that makes you feel struggle is necessary to be a good person or to do good things. Try on the idea that the best things in life should return even more energy than you put into them. What some call a slippery slope need not lead towards disaster, at least not for you. You have enough experience to know what doesn’t work and what will not serve to affirm and nourish your mental, physical, spiritual and emotional health. For example, alcoholic beverages should not be confused with medicine. Nonetheless, you need not be a puritan or a prude either. It’s possible to be authentically devoted to worthy endeavors without wearing a hair shirt. It’s also distinctly probable that you can get along very well without the need to constantly be critical of yourself. The world is a hard enough place as it is. Don’t be hard on yourself. Let yourself relax into your every day and try going with the flow. — By Len Wallick

Back From Extremes

All that you touch, all that you see, all that you taste, all you feel. All that you love, all that you hate, all you distrust, all you save. All that you give, all that you deal, all that you buy, beg borrow or steal. All you create, all you destroy, all that you do, all that you say. All that you eat, and everyone you meet, all that you slight and everyone you fight. All that is now, all that is gone, all that’s to come, and everything under the Sun…

— Roger Waters and Pink Floyd

So far as we know for certain at this time in our history, we are the only people anywhere. So far as we know, all of us are gathered together on only one planet in all of the Universe.

len-wallick-logo

Someday we may know differently, but that’s what we know for certain now.

We are all children of the Earth. You are among us. We, all of us, resemble the Earth just as children resemble their biological parents.

One of the things that characterizes life on Earth is its seasons. One of the things that distinguishes astrology as it is practiced here at Planet Waves is that it is synchronized with the seasons.

You experience the seasons as a cycle. That cycle oscillates between two extremes, with two points of equilibrium in between. Hence the seasons are four: two seasons begin at the extremes, and the other two begin at the points of equilibrium.

The season initiating either late Monday or early Tuesday (depending on your time zone) is synchronized to begin at the precise moment the Sun enters Capricorn. That moment represents one of the two extremes on the seasonal cycle.

Regardless of what time it is wherever you are, the extreme known as the Capricorn solstice will take place at the same moment for all of us. It will be a reminder that we are all in this, whatever it is, together.

To the extent that your life and all of us together are synchronized with the seasons, the events of your life should (and often do) reflect them. In the case of the season about to begin, we might earnestly hope so. Everywhere you look, things have gone about as far as they can in one direction.

When the Sun enters Capricorn next week, it will implicitly be time to come back from extremes and move in the direction of balance once again. If you will simply do what you can to be in tune with that motion, you will be participating in synchrony with the world. You will be doing your part to turn the cycle around, implicitly turning the world around, to keep things going.

What form your participation takes will be yours to choose.

That’s all we know for certain, but that alone is pretty darn special, and so are you.
