You need to ensure that someone who you care for and feel strongly about feels included in your life, rather than possessed or absorbed by it. ‘Included’ means on their terms – not just your own. Indeed, their perception of you may be nothing like your own self-view. There’s still enough pressure on the situation that it may take a minor crisis to reveal the nature of the imbalance, but you can view this as entirely positive because it will have a positive result. When you look back, I hope you’ll laugh at the extent to which a stand-off was passing for a relationship.
