You seem to have the ability and desire to express your emotional needs in relationship to a group of people. Better yet, it looks like you can do so fairly, in alignment with some higher philosophy or guiding principle that you aspire to. Yet how do you know where the line is between ‘assertively contentious’ and ‘simply speaking your truth’?
