Take special care, particularly in relationships, to ensure everyone’s personal space and freedom is respected; yours as well as that of others. If plans are formed that would alter current commitments — however reasonable those plans might seem — weigh them carefully at this time.

“It (Islam) was the first religion that preached and practiced democracy; for, in the mosque, when the call for prayer is sounded and worshippers are gathered together, the democracy of Islam is embodied five times a day when the peasant and king kneel side by side and proclaim: ‘God Alone is Great’… I have been struck over and over again by this indivisible unity of Islam that makes man instinctively a brother.”
— Sarojini Naidu

If Your Birthday is Feb. 13
(The Day of Liveliness) | Aquarius Birthday Reading | All Other Signs
You have the opportunity to move forward on a particular issue that might have caused you to feel hurt or resentful. Behind the veil of that emotion is a source of personal power, on which you can firmly rely.

Written in the Planets
Mars and Venus both form squares to centaurs in Capricorn today. Take special care, particularly in relationships, to ensure everyone’s personal space and freedom is respected; yours as well as that of others. If plans are formed that would alter current commitments — however reasonable those plans might seem — weigh them carefully at this time, and proceed with caution, leaving room to retrace steps as far as possible.

I have deep reservations about this quote. I rather suspect that women are not included in this sort of ‘democracy'; after all, they are not included in the men’s area of worship.

    Greetings cathryns!

The same sentiment you described has also been shared among the major spiritual teachings. Male dominance is something that if personified in Deity, describes the and the means by which it is acceptable to achieve them. Masons also had established everyone coming to the bar. The bar was a symbol of a great leveling. Everyone was equal. Wealth, title, occupation, race, etc. all meant nothing. The exception was that women were not allowed in the Masons.

Curious about the author I looked her up and was quite impressed. What I saw was that she was a very pioneering woman and stretched the bounds of her culture’s box as far as she could go and not lose sight of the audience she inspired. We can only give as good as we got and the Indian men of her time weren’t even considered equal to their British occupiers.

Thank you for the additional input as I had a similar reaction as cathryns. Placing the speaker historical context, just to have made the statement rendered her very brave too. Back to your observation about other religions, PW writers and many of its readers including you, often discuss the extremes of Patriarchalism found in most religion, a sign of its times but thank you too for noting it here.

This `Patriarchalism’ is perhaps what led to the missing pages of THE GOSPEL OF MARY MAGDALENE. She is a path to follow if one has been slandered, and what it takes to survive when this energy goes viral. The emotional release one gets when this energy is release was quite unexpected, and quite the Blessing. ☺

Thanks all for your comments. I would suggest that, much like with Christianity, the theory of Islam is not the same as the practice. It’s true that women in several countries (Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan probably being among the worst) are treated abominably. Yet equally there are adherents of Islam who are horrified by such practices. (There are also some rather troubling Christian sects, such as the Quiverfull movement and that nasty little group in Topeka.) Religions have the capacity to evolve, and we can encourage that by recognising the diversity within each belief system.
