A historic peace accord has been signed between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) and the Colombian government. This is seen as a crucial first step to ending the 52-year conflict, which is estimated to have killed approximately 220,000 and displaced more than 5 million.

The agreement must now be ratified by a national referendum, and is likely to face opposition from the country’s right wing, including its former president.
