Today’s edition recaps some early highlights, including then-President Bill Clinton calling the show stumping for his wife’s senate bid — and then accusing Amy Goodman of being hostile and aggressive. 20 years ago today, Democracy Now! went on the air on the eve of the New Hampshire primary. The date was February 19, 1996. The show began as a radio show on a handful of stations. It expanded into television five years later. Today, 5,000 episodes later, Democracy Now! airs on over 1,400 TV and radio stations.
