Today’s Oracle takes us to the Pisces weekly for June 1, 1999

Someone told me a story today of the magnificent (and now gone) Isabel Hickey speaking at an astrology conference 20 years ago, blowing the doors off the room with a scathing commentary on the karma of a society dropping bombs on people (i.e., atomic bombs on Japan). She said, essentially, what makes you think we can get away with this and suffer no consequences, individually or as a society? My friend said she’s been warning her students of the psychic arts, all of whom are very sensitive, that war has its effects. It has its effects on our minds. People are suffering and dying. Children are terrified; their homes are being bombed. Their parents and siblings are being murdered. You are sensitive. You feel this. You are intelligent. You know it’s wrong. I’ve read — I guess it’s been studied — that Pisceans make good war generals. If that’s true, then we’ll make excellent peace activists. There is no time to bullshit around. This is no time to follow style and just live normally like nothing is happening. Your life should be pretty good these days. The Gods are smiling on you. You have some resources. Put them to work. I am calling for a revolt. You can help. Stop the bombing. End of horoscope.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Capricorn weekly for Sept. 2, 2011

There’s a lot of tension between the religious ideas that our culture offers, and its ideas about sex. In order for religion to get any traction, it has to define something as evil, and with extremely rare exceptions, that something is sex. We can see examples of this every single day as various ‘presidential’ candidates wage war on anything and everything erotic. At the moment, the spiritual angle of your chart (Sun in Virgo, 9th house) is in perfect harmony with the erotic angle (Jupiter in Taurus, 5th house). This works well with your long-term program of dismantling all of the sources of guilt in your mind. At times this may feel like a process of forgiveness; at other times it may feel like the discovery that you never did anything wrong, despite the shrill cries of those obsessed with death. That really is the question: the whole issue of sin comes down to whether it’s okay to be alive, and if you decide that it is, then the obvious thing to do is celebrate.

There are times when we take a risk and seem to hit a wall, a limit or a restriction. Sometimes a seeming authority figure renders an opinion that something isn’t good enough. Other times, the idea of a risk is met by the response of fear. If any of that occurs in the next few weeks, remember: how you respond is more important than what happened. Your responses can range from discouragement to resentment to renewed determination. Yet once you go past the level of emotional impulse, there is a question about how you relate to your environment. What supports you, and what interferes with your creative process? I suggest you investigate everything from how your desk is arranged to the structure of your day. In considering people, are you seeking the approval of someone who seems incapable of offering it? The thing about any form of creative process is that it depends on answering to your inner authority; the notion of ‘authorship’ is about you being the one to grant yourself authorization. If you are caught in a loop where (for example) you’re seeking the approval of an actual person in your life, or covertly striving for the approval of parents who never gave it to you, that is something to look at closely. The clue would be that you tend to go in circles specifically where you put in enough love, energy and talent to make actual progress.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Cancer weekly for June 25, 2010

Personality and soul are said to be two different things. While some schools of thought regard this as a divide and conquer technique (pitting one against the other, or insisting that one is real at the expense of the other), the distinction is useful at the moment. Allow it to call your attention to another level of awareness that has much to offer you. I’m sure you’ve noticed there are those times you feel ‘connected’ and there are other times you feel ‘disconnected’. What, exactly, are you tapping into during those moments of contact? Whatever it is, it’s more easily available now than it’s been in a long time. Your relationships are being reborn with a new sense of purpose; even as you read, this is being revealed. To see this you will need to look deeper than day-to-day circumstances, and keep looking and loving from this perspective.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Virgo monthly for March 25, 2011

Agreements and contracts are the obvious theme of your life right now, but the deeper question involves how you morph yourself to adapt to each of them. In other words, you tend to ‘become a different person’ depending on the commitment you’ve made or the expectation of the relationship. It’s as if you customize yourself for the situation. But that’s really one of the things that wears on your energy the most, and makes your relationships the most challenging. One thing I suggest you confront is your fear of upsetting the apple cart of a relationship or agreement by being who you are. This is a psychological level that’s rooted in a deeper emotional level. You can also go through your current agreements and see if they contain any commitments to others that you won’t be yourself. It may take some courage but you can inform people that it’s well and good that you made that commitment, but it contains an unsustainable compromise that you’ll need to adjust for everyone’s wellbeing. And as you make new commitments and agreements, assess them all on the basis of whether you are able to fulfill them in integrity. This is another way of saying don’t make any promises you don’t think you can keep, or that would cause you to make unhealthy adjustments in your patterns of existence. What is good for you is good for everyone — in that order.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Cancer monthly for Jan. 1, 2000

You may feel compelled to come onto both people and projects like a storm in this Year of the White Dragon, among the most powerful and aggressive lunar years of the complex Chinese system. Doubtless, you have an important and meaningful agenda brewing, and one worthy of attention and deserving of success. But the agenda itself is part of the process. Write it in pencil, adjusting it repeatedly, patiently, until you feel it’s reflective of the true shape of your inner thoughts. It would be far better if you allowed your goals achieve to themselves, and allow intimacy to work itself out free from your meddling. Take your gains in layers rather than in chunks, and gradually, like water, rather than all at once, like fire. Breathe life gently into your creations, assisting them in coming to life, then stand back as they take on a life of their own. No one opportunity will be your last; if you take your space and expand your territory while nobody is watching, you are less likely to encounter resistance. But also take your time, despite the intense pressure that outer world may seem to exert upon you. For in truth, you are the one initiating the real changes, and what you see around you are merely effects of less important causes. Last, I caution you that self-assessment is risky. We always tend to underestimate our real worth, while over-estimating what we can accomplish. You need do neither.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Aries weekly for July 29, 2011

If you have the impulse to help someone, make sure your resulting gesture is actually going to be helpful — in advance. Perhaps go one step deeper and question your motives, and your perception that anyone in particular needs your assistance. If those checks tell you to proceed, I suggest you then call the person up and ask if there is some way you can help, rather than just taking it upon yourself to do so. Meanwhile the focus of your life really needs to be you right now. You’re entering a phase ideal for inner questioning, and seem to be seeking the resolution and completion of certain stories that have gone on seemingly forever. Your first impulse to cut yourself off from the past may be followed by the recognition that you have yet to do precisely that, but remember what you’re seeking is not ‘cutting off’ but rather emotional closure.

In this world it’s so difficult to sort out truth from lies that most people gave up a long time ago. But you can’t afford to live in that kind of chaos. You’ll go a long way toward establishing peace of mind by being honest with yourself which is the root of all sanity. Being direct clear and gentle with the people around you would make a good follow-up. Give them a chance to speak their piece offer the benefit of the doubt and then withhold judgment. There’s no rush and what you learn over the next few days will provide you with enormous insight into the course of your closest relationships.
