No More Heads in the Sand

By Carlos Cedillo

Your souls are going to receive the truth.
Broken the spirit of your worship, Oh Itzas.
Forget your perishable god,
Destroy your god.
Of everything there is, He is ruler,
Father and creator of heaven
And all of the earth.
This is the pain in your heart at what is said then, Maya and Itza.
You do not want to hear of another God.
True God speaks to you.
This is His entry into your heart,
The word of my sermon, truly.

— Chilam Balam, Jaguar Prophet, “Counsels of Life and Death”

There is no god more certain of itself than Imperial government. As it was for Rome, and England, the Aztecs, and Spain, the Third Reich, the U.S.S.R, so shall it be for Imperialist America.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We can no longer accept living in a world where those less-than-100%-Light beings dictate how our individual and collective lives are to be lived. As we understand that we are One Consciousness experiencing itself in many billions of different ways, we know all war must end.

As we make it our intention to interact only with beings who are 100% of the Light, those entities who are less than 100% Light begin to fall away from our consciousness. As more and more human beings become aware of their own spiritual light potential, there is no more room in our hearts and minds for those beings who have sought to control and manipulate us into giving them our spiritual life-force energies.

In the Chilam Balam prophecy for the time of 1 Ahau/Sun, (Sept. 23 – Oct. 12, 2014), “…there is an end to the receiving of the money of the Anti-Christ. Anti-Christ does not come. Our Father God does not desire it. … This is the root that is Anti-Christ, truly — Avaricious buying and selling.” It sounds like Wall St. may have met its match this week!

It had to be a beautiful young woman — Carmen Segarra is only 41 years old — to pull off this feat since 1 Ahau is also the Aztec day of Xochiquetzal, the goddess of feminine sex energy!

I had promised to write more about the tsunami at the Fukushima nuclear reactor in Japan (March 11, 2011, 3 Toj/Water), but I noticed that ever since then, I have written very little during this part of the tzolkin. I pray this week has no major disruptions, as there is enough already happening.

There may be plenty of opportunity for romance this weekend, beginning Thursday, 4 Tzi/Dog, so long as we stay out of mischief Friday, 5 Batz/Monkey; remain humble Saturday, 6 E/Road; and balance ourselves Sunday, 7 Aj/Reed.

Monday Oct. 6, 2014, is 8 Ix/Jaguar, another powerful feminine energy day. Make a ceremony for Mother Nature.

On Tuesday, 9 Tzikin/Eagle correlates with Dec. 15, 1791, the day the Bill of Rights became law. So protect your rights; too many people are trying to trample over them nowadays.

The Full “Blood” Moon happens at just before 6:00 am, Wednesday Oct. 8, 2014. This is 10 Ajmac/Owl on the tzolkin, a perfect day to be on Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg, Texas, but way too early for this hombre. I may make the journey if the right friend comes along.

Much Love and Blessing!
All together relations,

Aho Mitakuye Oyasin!

A Bigger Picture — Venus and the First Quarter Moon

Venus entered cardinal Libra yesterday. Tomorrow, the Libra Sun squares the cardinal Capricorn Moon for an aspect known as the lunar first quarter. Today, you are in between, and thus in an excellent position to see a bigger picture.

len-wallick-logo

For you, the big picture will begin with being mindful of (or at least willing to see) your personal connection with all things.

For you are indeed a child of the Universe as evinced by both the current astrology and recent scientific research.

The scientific research in question connects what you already know about the substance that makes up most of your physical body’s volume — water, to a bigger picture.

What you already know about water is that it circulates. It circulates through your body, distributing nutrients and removing toxins.

Water also circulates from your body back into the world. Then, there is the big picture of the world’s water evaporating into the sky, and precipitating back to Earth (sometimes freezing or melting as part of the process).

A recently published study indicates an even bigger picture than Earth’s water cycle. The bigger picture evidently connects you with our entire galaxy, and possibly even the entire universe, through the water your body continuously exchanges with the world.

Astronomer Ilse Cleves, who led the study on probable origins of Earth’s water, concludes that a portion (at least) of the water in your body right now originated as “interstellar water-ice” circulating through our galaxy, predating and surviving the formation of our solar system.

Through its own modality of observation and correlation, astrology will often imply similar connections between cycles in your life and cycles representing bigger things in both the sky and on the zodiac. Now is one of those times.

By entering Libra, Venus invoked the continuum of its own and other objects’ motions through cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) over recent years to interact with a bigger picture.

The bigger picture in question is a long series of seven exact cardinal square aspects (90 degrees of separation) from Uranus in Aries to Pluto in Capricorn that started in 2012, not to conclude until next year. Over the last several years you will almost certainly have been able to observe how the continuum represented by Uranus and Pluto repeatedly squaring up (and never truly moving out of orb in between) has correlated with your life.

To paraphrase an observation Eric has repeatedly made here on Planet Waves, the years during which Uranus will repeatedly and continuously square Pluto are defining our era. Beyond that, the fact that both Uranus and Pluto are in cardinal signs correlates with the continuous connection constantly being evinced between events in your personal life and the political events of this time in history.

Tomorrow, the Sun and Moon will reacquaint us with their own big picture from which the bigger picture of Uranus-square-Pluto is derived. That’s because the lunar first quarter provides the template through which astrology interprets all opening square aspects, including the current continuum between Uranus and Pluto.

The Sun and Moon at right angles to each other one week after their New Moon conjunction, and one week before their Full Moon opposition, serves as a template because you can see them plainly.

That’s how, weather permitting, you will see half-lit Luna near its highest point in the sky at sunset tomorrow, in tangible correspondence to the symbolic Sun and Moon simultaneously separated by 90 degrees on the zodiac circle.

By observing  both its contrast with the Sun’s position, and the contrast between light and dark on its own countenance, viewing the first quarter Moon often coincides with contrasts inside of you because the Sun and Moon correlate with the complementary constituents of your consciousness.

Appropriately, the Sun represents a form of consciousness with which you and others are familiar because it is readily seen. The Moon, for its part, corresponds to a no-less significant but probably less familiar form of consciousness that is more readily felt.

It is not so much that seeing a first quarter Moon brings on an often concurrent internal tension between the complementary parts of your consciousness. It’s more that the circulation of the luminaries (Sun and Moon) is visual evidence of a bigger picture in which your consciousness plays a part.

That’s how other square aspects, involving objects you can’t easily see (like Uranus and Pluto) are likewise apparent in their correspondences once you have the awareness astrology provides, and correlate that awareness with what you observe of yourself and the world.

In addition to awareness of how aspects between the Sun and Moon form a template for all aspects, astrology provides how each planet (much as with the solar and lunar relationship to consciousness) is an archetype representing and correlating with observable, real-world manifestations.

Additionally, being aware of the energetic field (or ‘sign’) through which the luminaries or any other given object are expressing can serve to make you aware of how the planetary archetypes are circulating in the context of, and effectively emulating, a bigger picture and greater whole.

Corresponding to the your actual experience in the tangible world, when the Sun enters a cardinal sign a new season begins for everybody on Earth all at once. So it is that any other object entering a cardinal field of expression (such as Venus did yesterday) indicates something beginning for everybody all at once according to the nature of that object.

Venusian archetypes (which include values and receptivity) tend to manifest on a personal level. Hence whatever happened for you yesterday that accords with the nature of Venus will probably have served to refresh your personal connection with all things — your starting point for perceiving a bigger picture through your personal experience with tomorrow’s lunar first quarter.

Then, as Venus circulates through Libra towards its own cardinal square with Pluto on Oct. 8 (the same day as a Full Moon and lunar eclipse), and a subsequent cardinal opposition with Uranus on Oct. 11, the bigger picture will probably develop as a larger manifestation of what you see and feel during tomorrow’s first quarter Moon.

Just like the circulation of water in your own body both models and emulates Earth’s water cycle, and beyond that, the circulation of interstellar water-ice in our galaxy (and probably beyond) allows you to glimpse a bigger picture through personal experience precisely because you are a part of it all.

Pretty cool, huh? So get started today by correlating how Venus entering Libra yesterday manifested for you. Then, prepare to observe what contrasts and tensions you see and feel tomorrow. From there, it will simply be a matter of proceeding from what you already know, to as big a picture as you are willing to see.

On Experiential Energetic Learning

By Amanda Moreno

It’s amazing how pain travels. How it flows through the body. Amazing how you can feel the way the energy channels through the muscles and ligaments, through the soft tissues, even when your knowledge of anatomy leaves much to be desired — as mine most certainly does.

While massaging or embracing someone else, I’m becoming increasingly fascinated with how I can feel where the other person is holding pain. How muscles have contracted in different ways, seemingly permanently. How entire passages have been rewired to compensate for an injury or trauma.

I got a signal from my hands probably two years ago that clued me into the fact that I’m capable of doing “energy healing,” but haven’t really found a specific modality I connect with. Nothing’s really presented itself. I realized recently, however, that like so many things in my life it seems like this part of my path will consist of experiential learning. As a teacher has said: “you just have to give yourself permission…to remember.”

And that all sounds fine and dandy. The “permission” approach has definitely opened doors (gaping, glimmering/threatening gateways, really) for me before. But when it comes to the body I feel like…I need to know more. About anatomy. About neurology. These are languages that are totally foreign to me, and I don’t think that a strictly intuitive approach cuts it.

I suppose I’ve had the same apprehension when it comes to working with the psyche in regression work. In that case I’ve mostly moved through the fear of causing harm by completing my trainings and practicing and submitting to the fact that I’m a life-long learner — that mastering my craft is an endeavor that probably won’t end. I did not, however, know where to start with the energetic healing touch stuff.

But then I started listening to my hands. They don’t only tell me about holding patterns and physiological traumas, they communicate a channel of understanding straight to my heart. I can feel the anger, or the grief, and I can feel this incredible surge of love flowing through my hands and my soul to the wounded parts.

I’m very early on in this part of my journey, and am therefore really only working with a few people. Ok, right now it’s really just one person, and then a few times when friends in pain have allowed me to touch their wounded parts or “lean into” them. But I’ve been amazed at the impulses and images that come through when I’m moving my hands around someone’s body, or when I’m aware that someone is in pain and listen for the sounds the pain is making. Impulses like the urge to whisper to the body part, up close and personal, “It’s OK, you’re loved, thank you for supporting him.” Or a knowing that that upper thigh just needs to be held and nurtured — coddled, almost — shown that it’s safe to let go, and then helping the other parts to remember how to move without pain.

A week or so ago, I reached an experiential understanding of how working with muscles and patterns that have become habitual — areas of the body that are taking the brunt or preparing for the worst — can result in some pretty strong emotions. It’s not really that I didn’t know that it could happen. But because I’m choosing this more intuitive approach (granted, I am reading about different approaches, too, and have training in body trauma when it comes to my regression work, and lord knows that depth psychology is rife with explorations on the psyche-soma connection), I’m not necessarily thinking through the outcomes. Ah, experiential learning.

I’m also aware that this part of the journey really began when I started learning how to heal myself. A while back, I began having experiences where I’d be working with my guides and would suddenly be aware that energy work was happening far beyond what I’d anticipated, and that physical/energetic/emotional/spiritual patterns were being released. Paying attention to what was happening — even when I didn’t have the words to articulate it — has prompted incredible growth.

The world is so full of traditions that teach us how to heal in ways that are foreign to our modern paradigm. I have so much respect for unbroken lineages that stress a rigid and structured set of initiations and set path of apprenticing. I wonder sometimes if I’m being, at best, somehow superficial; or at worst, flat-out destructive by experimenting on my own — by taking pieces of knowledge and tools that make sense to me and blending them with others.

But I also know that the world’s healing systems do seem to be, at best, transforming and, at worst, breaking down and becoming lost. And there’s no denying the simple mandate that comes from feeling such pure compassion and love coming through when I’m practicing this work — a mandate that tells me to continue. To keep letting it flow. And to remain open and in my integrity. Hopefully some good can come of that. In the mean time…I’ll be taking baby steps with the energy work!

The Weekend Tarot Reading — Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014

By Sarah Taylor

“Whatchoo doin’? Pissin’ around when you’ve got work to do!”

These were the exact words that came out my mouth when I was laying the cards on the scanner in preparation for publishing today’s reading. In that accent too — which sounds a tad incongruous coming out the mouth of a Brit, but there you go.

devil_eight_cups_hermit_rohrig_sm

The Devil, Eight of Cups, The Hermit from the Röhrig Tarot deck, created by Carl.W- Röhrig. Click on the image for a larger version.

This reading will be short, not-so-sweet, and yet loving. A loving slap around the chops for you today.

Because there you are, stuck in no-man’s-land in the Eight of Cups. Indolence. A cobweb of chaos; a mass of bloated, amorphous swirls and adipose that need to be brought into sharper focus; dead trees bowed under their own lifelessness; a metallic river — polluted — feeding nothing and going nowhere.

Except you have places to go. Two, here, to be precise. You can go left, to The Devil, or right, to The Hermit. Or both — because both lead to the same place: out of your predicament, your pissiness, your lifelessness.

There is life, you know. There is. It is beautiful, vital, energising love. It is just that this particular scenario in the Eight of Cups is not it. What the Eight of Cups serves is the ability to make a different choice if you want to remove yourself from, as the card writes, “uncertainty,” “inhibition,” and “mud.”

So how do you break free? By turning formlessness into form; by looking within; by going into the shadows to meet what is waiting for you there. But before you do, here is the one instruction that is handed to you on a small, torn-out piece of spiral notepad, to equip you with what you need to make the journey:

Find your own light, wise leader. Think things over. Rest in your own centre.

What you avoid is the source of your greatest light, you know that? What you have fought so hard not to see is the seat of your most potent and authentic creativity. What you have now — Indolence — is not what you were expecting. That’s because you are leaning away from a meeting with what drives you. And when you see what drives you, you become the driver.

There is no shame required when you take the journey to the centre. What creates the shame is your fear of taking that first step. What will you find there that is so awful?

Or — what will you find there that is so awe-full?

Isn’t that typical: what weighs you down is your own light in disguise.

Don’t be afraid to venture into the darkness. It is in the adventuring into the black interior night of inner space that one mines, and finds, gold. Not the fool’s gold that lies on the surface of your lackadaisical heart, your stifled feelings — is that what you’ve been bowing your head towards all this time, figuring it was going to give up some riches to you?

No, no. The gold you’re looking for takes some work, some effort. But guess what? It’s real.

Go for the real. Go inside. Look at what calls your name. Contemplate the possibility of your own liberation.

Sex and Relationships: Tapping My Intuition

Editor’s Note: This week’s sex-and-relationships guest-post comes from Christina Louise Dietrich. You can read more of her writing at her own blog; we plan to feature her in this slot again, and welcome your comments on this piece. — Amanda

By Christina Louise Dietrich

The last couple of weeks I’ve been having powerfully synchronous experiences with the women in my communities and it’s not coincidence. I’m sensing a convergence of divine feminine energy growing and coalescing not only in the women I speak with, but also inside my own body. It’s actually there that I’m feeling it the most intensely and I gotta say, it’s throwing me for a loop. Shaking me up. Blowing me open.

Christina Louise Dietrich

Christina Louise Dietrich

I knew that was the point when I started seriously investigating Stuff About Women Living Under Patriarchy about 18 months ago. Actually, I think it started four years ago when I gave birth, but I wasn’t really present to what had been seeded by that experience. That a key had been turned deep inside my pelvis. I hadn’t really grokked that the women who prepared me for and were present at Avery’s birth—all of them healers, activists, lovers, and teachers—were helping me set my feet on a path to Self/Goddess discovery.

The thing about getting blown open, shaken up, and grounded down is that all those things require a vast amount of personal surrender and trust. Two things I had literally zero experience with before that 14-inch head opened up my center and really began the process of identity dissolution.

Because there’s nothing like being a new mother to get a taste of surrender.

A little context before proceeding: I was born in 1971 America to an emotionally unprepared mother, raised by a fundamentally Christian family, and was thoroughly indoctrinated by our public schools/religious institutions. I have been thoroughly steeped in patriarchy. As a consequence of that and early-childhood family trauma/violence, by the time I reached my mid 30s and began psychotherapy, I had no idea what the Divine Feminine was. I’d been taught to believe God was a man with a lot of unfair rules and stipulations about achieving, well, anything of real value.

My Divine Feminine had no voice and I sought no female voices to encourage me. In fact, I actively avoided women because I’d never gotten along with them, didn’t trust them, didn’t want to deal with them. They were illogical, manipulative bitches and I had better ways to spend my time.

I had stopped listening to and trusting my intuition around the age of 5 because God and Men told me she wasn’t worth heeding; that she was a liar and a danger to my spiritual safety. I derided witches and crones and healers with a vigor that would have made the patriarchy proud. I laughed at the notion of stones vibrating or plants communicating or people living peacefully. All my therapy to date had been conducted through an inherited lens of dismissing and minimizing feminine power, intuition, feelings, and strength.

I was an excellent student.

So, in the context of that—and with enough exposure to powerful women/witches under my belt I began to think they might be Onto Something—I started by reading Clarissa Pinkola Estés and Riane Eisler. I deepened my commitment to and practice of Holistic Peer Counseling (HPC) and started counseling with more people; women, to be precise. I continued my focused psychotherapy work around my mother and the maternal ancestral patterns I’d been handed unconsciously. Things continued to shift and unfold; snarls were being picked apart, hurtful patterns received the loving attention they needed to integrate, and my ability to stay present with difficult feelings (mine and others’) continued to grow.

And then Shit Got Real.

My husband and I brought HPC into the bedroom after having avoided it on numerous levels for a couple years. Primarily because of my wounds and their armoring. Because of my inability to trust that any man truly wanted to love and see Me. That any man could want to go slowly and carefully and give me the space I needed to feel safe before having sex. That I had actually married that man and he was standing in front of me, begging me to let him in so that he could help give Her (that terrified little girl/woman who felt like a non-consensual whore) the loving attention and care she needed to Be Seen.

I started to feel safe during sex. Like I could ask for what I wanted and it wouldn’t be laughed at or put down as “romance” or “lame cuddling” or “girl stuff” or whatever the patriarchy likes to label things that aren’t penis-centered and hard-hitting. My husband spent time worshiping my body, honoring my courage, and chose to put himself in a position to wait for my consent, my desire, my demands. He showed me that I was worth waiting for, that who I was mattered, that I was a person of value.

I am blessed and he is amazing, and I can’t emphasize enough how critical this stage was for me. How it was required before I could truly begin to listen and heed Her words.

Because once I felt safe, began to build confidence, and increasingly let Her come out during sex, I felt a powerful shift in my pelvis. She demanded that we get fucked harder and harder, and his fucking me unlocked something primal and deep; a wound so old and so buried that it could only be massaged from the inside. Could only be reached by someone wholly committed to tracking it down and pummeling it. The lock that childbirth began to open was blown apart by his loving attention; the strikeplate thrown across the room, the doorjam exploded, the lock mechanism tangled and impotent.

She had awoken and there was no going back. How could I want to go back when, for the first time in my life, I truly believed I was powerful, trustworthy, beautiful, desirable, intelligent, and INTUITIVE. I was grounded in my root chakra and it was AWESOME. Literally and truly awesome.

The difficulty arose when I would leave the house every day to go to work. I work in tech, which as most of you know is a heavily male-dominated culture, and I was having a hard time staying aware of my intuition while swimming in ManTown. (Disclaimer: I love my job and many of my coworkers; they are truly wonderful and socially/politically active. And most of them are still men. Not their fault.) I started to get worried, to feel off balance, to wonder if I could lose my connection to intuition. How was I supposed to balance The Logic and The Woo? How could I stay true to my chosen path?

The answer came from a woman in my HPC community; a woman I consider to be a powerful witch and seer, someone more spiritually aware in the Ways of Women than I. She and a couple other HPC ladies had begun doing yoni steams, which totally triggered and squicked me for some reason. However, something else she offered completely resonated with me almost like I heard a deep GONG in my core.

Yoni eggs.

*Note on the word yoni; I am not a student of Hinduism and so, being sensitive to appropriation, I balked at using the term. However, when reviewing the words we typically apply to the female genitals, none of them felt respectful/beautiful in the way I was coming to consider my genitals/pelvic parts, and they also weren’t sufficiently comprehensive. I didn’t want to address JUST my labia or JUST my vagina; I wanted to address the WHOLE AREA. So, yoni. And pussy. I like pussy.

A yoni egg is, as you might expect, an egg-shaped stone/mineral, usually 1–2 inches long that’s inserted into the vagina and left there for some amount of time that’s determined by the wearer, her Intuition, or her body’s willingness to hold it. There’s a lot of them on Etsy; you can even get them from Amazon.

I have two: a 2-inch model made of mahogany obsidian and a 3-inch model made of selenite. Every material is purported to have its own healing or meditation properties. I phrase it like that to cover my ass and because I’m not psychically sensitive enough to pick up on the vibrations or properties. This is one of those cases where I’m choosing to surrender and trust that regardless of what they’re supposed to do, they are more than ably providing me with what I needed them to do, which is help me focus. If they also increase my sexual power (mahogany obsidian) or mental clarity/psychic ability (selenite), all the better.

*Practical note: Yes, they can slip out into the toilet, especially if you’re bearing down/pooping. The first time I wore it to work, I dropped it in the toilet and it made a very audible CLANK when it hit the porcelain. I hope the other woman in the bathroom was confused and/or titillated. It’s important to get your Order of Operations right or you’re gonna be fishing.

I currently wear the smaller one all the time because doing so provides me with an ongoing psychic and felt connection to my Intuition/root chakra. It helps me stay focused on who I am while moving through the world getting blasted by violent and abusive messages. It’s also giving me something to share with the other powerful and emerging women I interact with; in one particular case, the woman in question had already received the message from a third party that she needed to begin putting crystals in her vagina.

So, like I said at the start, synchronous things are happening. The women are converging and finding our voices and accessing our power. It feels really big and part of me is so excited to be on what feels like a leading edge of discovery and healing; an edge where regular women from everyday places are tapping their Intuition and speaking their truth.

I am a woman, a mother, a feminist, a wife. I am compassionate, judgmental, loving, a bully, empathetic, obstinate, caring, rigid, and creative. I’m passionate about systems, beauty, process, experience, trees, interconnections, transitions, logistics, balance, and clarity. I manifest the Amazon, the Androgyne, and the Mother-to-be-Crone.”

Judith Gayle: From Both Sides Now

By Judith Gayle | Political Waves

But now old friends they’re acting strange
They shake their heads and
they tell me that I’ve changed
Well something’s lost,
and something’s gained
In living every day
— from Both Sides Now, lyrics and performance by Joni Mitchell

This was the week that the cops cuffed Frostpaw the polar bear on Wall Street, bewildering small children everywhere but advancing the cause of our time — climate change — by pointing out that capitalism, as practiced on the Street, is the enemy of alternative energy and environmental protection. At least they didn’t call him names. Hamid Karzai, the ever-sketchy former President of Afghanistan called the decade-plus American intervention a curse upon his country and Americans themselves demons, then thanked China and Iran (and just about every other country he could think of) for their support in his farewell address to the people, a harangue the U.S. ambassador called “ungracious and ungrateful.” Down the block and around the corner, ISIS blew a raspberry our way and called John Kerry an uncircumcised old geezer. I doubt that spit-in-yer-eye rudeness has much to do with why the U.S. hit Syrian airspace like a fiery comet raining death and dismemberment, but that business about “sticks and stones” breaking bones seems appropriate to contemplate just now.

Political Blog, News, Information, Astrological Perspective. We’re better informed than we used to be, aren’t we! We’re paying more attention to what goes on around us, as well as to what the nation does in our name. And I guess we’re out of practice with this kind of citizenship, because it all feels a bit clumsy and unwieldy, like we don’t know what to do with this glut of information except to re-think our self-definition and wonder what our part in all this is, now that we’re no longer asleep at the switch. Case in point, the police chief of Ferguson, Missouri released a video apologizing to Michael Brown’s parents for both the loss of their son and for letting his body lie in the street for hours. Chief Jackson also addressed the blowback by adding, “The right of the people to peacefully assemble is what the police are here to protect. If anyone who was peacefully exercising that right is upset and angry, I feel responsible and I’m sorry.”

Later in the day, Jackson met a rowdy group of protesters outside the cop shop who assessed his apology as too little, too late. One protester brought a large sign that said “Chief Jackass: Resign” — the ‘ass’ portion was underlined. A bit of shoving ensued, causing well-prepared officers in riot gear to rush out, push the demonstrators across the street in a typical stand-off, and make more arrests. While our Missouri governor has instituted an Office of Community Engagement by executive order, designed to focus on minority issues, it’s still clear that in case of resistance — anytime, anywhere — the state will default to breaking out the riot gear, the rubber bullets and the pepper spray. I trust the residents of St. Louis County are prepared for more of the same, then, as the crowd has pledged to continue their protest until Brown’s shooter, Darren Wilson, is charged with his murder, which will likely be … never.

The spotlight shining on law enforcement in recent weeks has finally given the public a sense of not just the inequality with which justice is served in this country, but its haste in protecting itself against all harm, real or imagined, rather than the public it supposedly serves. Every so often the press stumbles on a ratings bonanza, a thread of truth they don’t hesitate to tug despite its lack of political correctness. And after the coverage that captured the zeitgeist in Ferguson last month, it’s impossible to ignore a growing public awareness of law enforcements militarization, with its accompanying up-tick of police brutality and growing ability to search out daily examples like a heat-seeking missile.

Each new announcement proves the point of authoritarian overreach and, newly sensitized to the problems, there is some progress being made. Remember the Los Angeles woman who was walking on the freeway, stopped and repeatedly pummeled by a Highway Patrolman? She received a settlement of 1.5 million for her trouble, including a “special needs trust” to provide for her long-term care. Turns out she was both homeless and bi-polar. The patrolman has resigned his position, pending criminal charges. And in South Carolina, a black man on a routine traffic stop went for his drivers license too enthusiastically and got shot by a spooked state trooper. You need to watch this little clip because it defines the problem we’re dealing with. It seems likely that while race may have defined the original stop, what happened next would have happened no matter the color of the suspect. The cop was subsequently fired and arrested for shooting an unarmed citizen, and in this case, I can’t help but feel somewhat sorry for him. There’s no question that he’s been as authentically mind-crimed into paranoia about the public as the public has been about the cops.

Fear is at the base of the polarization between law and the public, and — to one degree or another — has ever been thus. Those in authority over us resonate our vulnerabilities, put us in defensive stance even as we try like hell to appear calm and guiltless. That’s why lie detectors are so successful, measuring sweat and heart rate as a factor most of us are unable to manipulate. Yet the more information we try to hide from authority, the more they believe we are hiding, and the circle of mistrust goes around, endlessly.

Think back to your youth, about the possibility of being sent to the principal’s office, and tell me your stomach doesn’t lurch a bit. Even the thought puts a shadow on the day, and this is so because authority is rightly equated with punishment, a legacy in our society from our Judeo/Christian underpinnings. We rarely seek to relate and rehabilitate. We’re more eager to “spare the rod and spoil the child,” and if you don’t think so, just ask the Viking’s Adrian Peterson. We learn violence young, and from those who tell us they love us more than anything.

Truth to tell, authority has the responsibility to be fair and even-handed, if it wants to be trusted. I was not a hitter (although my daughter delights in telling the world that I once chased her around the house waving a wooden spoon) and I’m quite sure that was because I was never hit. The lines of communication between people who have not betrayed one another by resorting to force is based on mutual respect, not fear. There are plenty of ways to respond to children without teaching them that those who love them can’t be trusted not to hurt them, while that old line about the beater being hurt more than the one getting beaten is a hollow defense in the name of self-righteousness but little else.

From an adult point of view, then, we’re locked and loaded from an early age, ready to explode into learned violence if and when the appropriate goad comes along. We’ve been programmed to lie to keep from being punished, and we’re unequipped to handle ourselves when the lies become too heavy to balance. That’s when the societal norms come along to push us back into place, starting with those bidden to keep “law and order,” but seriously, it’s a little too late for the National Crime Prevention Council’s mascot, Officer McGruff, to sweeten up our relationship with authority.  (In Texas — it HAD to be Texas, right? — one of the actors that played McGruff the Crime Dog in presentations to children has been sent up the river for the next 16 years for possession of 1,000 marijuana plants and 27 weapons, which included a grenade launcher and 9,000 rounds of ammo. Quite a “bite out of crime,” eh?)

But we’ve finally smartened up a bit, and even the most lily-white community isn’t naive, these days, about the tension that exists between the police department and the general public. The criminals are scary but the cops are too. If you can help it, don’t call them before hiding your kids behind you and locking your pets in the closet — maybe even then, and I’m as serious as a heart attack. Our old dependable “rule of law” has not only been rewritten while we were busy elsewhere but is quite comfortably ignored from most all quarters, these days.

In Louisiana, a citizen called the police after seeing a group of ‘armed’ teens enter an abandoned house in the neighborhood. The result of that call was a 14-year-old honor roll student shot four to five times in the back, and a weapon recovered “in close proximity,” although reports do not identify the weapon (which could have been anything, after the fact and in the hot glare of public scrutiny). The victim’s brother says that he and his buds were just hanging out, as they’d done before, and his little brother thought the pounding on the front door was someone punking them. When he opened the door to armed cops, he was startled, turned and was shot. And I suspect, if you asked among the ranks and could elicit an honest answer, you’d discover that because this child was black he was considered undeniably dangerous. Isn’t that why Mike Brown died? Isn’t that why the white folks overwhelmingly think Darren Wilson was justified in putting half a dozen bullets in him?

But all this talk of racial conflict, ancient and irrational, isn’t the only problem we face. We are no longer solely a white nation, and in the years ahead, our families will be even more blended than they are now. Race is a temporary wrinkle in the struggle against mindless authority while the multi-millions invested in training and equipment that have beefed up our law enforcement in the last decade have turned it into a war machine, with the public identified as the enemy. Soon enough, the enemy will be generic. And, like priests and doctors, cops have that “band of brothers” thing going on, where truth falls into a black hole when someone is grilled on a co-worker’s possible wrongdoing. There is nothing workable about a system that self-protects rather than serving the public they have sworn to serve — black, white or brown; priests, doctors OR cops.

It gets worse. In Texas, a 64-year-old Hispanic woman, trapped in her car, drowned in a drainage canal after onlookers who were trying to rescue her were threatened with arrest by police. Waved off for their own protection, the good Samaritans became frustrated onlookers, as police assessed the situation for approximately fifteen minutes, not even allowing rescue personnel access to the buffeted automobile. Said a bystander, “There were ambulances, there was the Fire Department, helicopters, airplanes, I said ‘Oh, my God, they’re not doing anything about it,’ so she passed away.” Another witness said that the woman would probably be alive if the cops hadn’t shown up. Naturally, none of those who commented to reporters wished to be identified because their daily wellbeing is in the hands of these same police personnel who simply stood and watched a woman die.

If we have come to that place where we can simply stand back and watch the residence burn, the bank robbed, the victim raped or killed, or the old lady drown in her car rather than get our hands dirty in the process, then the whole system has come to a standstill and authority has no ethical value to the society it has pledged to serve. And that’s where we come in, because law enforcement is a political animal, and politics — oh, you know what comes next! — politics is personal. What happens in our neighborhood is a direct result of our political advocacy and voting record. What happens in our community, our state, our nation and the world is directly influenced by us. And although we’d rather not carry the burden, what happens in the local jail, in our state’s attorney general’s office and the for-profit prison system: all up to you and me, and the collective known as we, the People.

All of this is not beyond us. It IS us, fleshed out and being experienced so we can change our mind and lift our consciousness. If we want to change things, we must make it our business, our intent, to do just that. Something similar happened not long ago, when too few of us were looking. A recent study found that the bias shown by our Supreme Court is a new phenomenon specific to the Robert’s court, which has its roots in business and federalism. Prior to the turn of this new century, decisions were not so polarized by a judge’s political party but spread more equally across the spectrum of political thought. It is the culmination of the conservative party plan that SCOTUS has America by the short hairs, creating law in its own image.

While he is unable to break the tie in the SCOTUS, Obama has done an excellent job of filling the court system with liberals. Once Harry Reid signed off on the nuclear option, bringing nominations to an up/down vote, the President has been very successful in placing judges. He has finally caught up with the disparity in progressive judges put in place by an eager G.W. Bush, who busied himself salting conservatives into every possible corner of Washington D.C. for the entirety of his final term.

This week, Justice Ruth Bader Ginzburg, 81 years old and a cancer survivor, explained why she would not step down from the court, leading to an Obama nomination (while the Dems have the podium). “If I resign any time this year,” she replied, “he could not successfully appoint anyone I would like to see in the court. Anybody who thinks that if I step down, Obama could appoint someone like me, they’re misguided.” And she’s right. She is champion for both the legacy she brought to the position from the ACLU and to a history of liberal decisions marked by the social consciousness that was our heritage from FDR, JFK and LBJ.

Here, at the dawn of a new era, I’m less interested in our divisions of opinion than I am in our potential shifts in consciousness. We humans tend to respond to most everything with herd consciousness, picking our side and sticking with it. That’s how we got in this mess to start with. When we look at any situation from both sides, carefully weighing the factors, we begin to get a full sense of the implications involved and a rounded view of not just our responsibility to one another, but our mutual humanity. Joni Mitchell nailed it when she told us that something’s lost and something’s gained in living every day.

When we open ourselves to the whole picture — factor in the fears that plague us, the group-think that attempts to capture us and overwhelm our clarity and enthusiasm — we can understand the cop who’s afraid of getting it wrong, the young kid who feels victimized by those in authority, and the ultimate clash that leads to the death of, usually, the most vulnerable of the two. That’s an emotional storm we can’t just sit and watch, like those cops sat and watched as a woman lost her life. I can understand fear. I just can’t allow myself to succumb to it.

We must discover our empathy as we deal not just with the position of those we favor, but those we oppose. We need to dive into whichever feelings seem the most abstract, the farthest from our own, until we’re saturated in the consciousness that we understand the least. We need to enter into the consciousness that we intuit is most like our own, feeling the fervor that drives desperation and distress. Finally, we must own that place that we know to be our own somewhere between those poles, shifting and changing day by day, growing and enlarging our humanity. That is the only way we will be able to escape our own bias to enter the slipstream of change.

That’s how we can look at life from both sides, understand the illusive quality of changing positions and ideas, forgiving one another our inflexibility and still finding the compassion to go on. Neale Donald Walsch tells us that the God he dialogues with tells him there are only three things to know, here in the maya of earth consciousness. He calls them the Triune Truths and says that if we lived them, we would change the world:

1.  We are all One.
2.  There’s enough.
3.  There’s no such thing as Right and Wrong.

What we experience, from moment to moment, is the collective possibilities of our group mind. Each of us is like a cell in that body, able to influence what we want to know, to see, to do with and for one another. The Hundredth Monkey is all about how many cells fill themselves with Light and shift the whole of the body upward into a larger expression of its divinity. That’s what I’d like to experience, willing myself to surrender to both sides now. And because Joni was right about that, I think she was speaking for you and me when she sang:

“‘We are stardust, we are golden and we’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden.”

Be Clear With Yourself — Mercury’s First Ingress to Scorpio

By Len Wallick

When Mercury enters Scorpio for the first time this year on Saturday, just after 6:39 pm EDT (22:39 UT), focus on being clear with yourself. Give it a try. Give external dramas a rest. Get in touch with where your heart is at.

len-wallick-logo

Know and be transparent about your intent. Let clarity within guide you through confusion without.

It’s not always easy to be clear with yourself, so watch for clues. For example, if you are being defensive, ask yourself what you are defending. Insist on a straight answer.

Additionally, consider your relationship with boundaries. Are you pushing your own boundaries? Or are you pushing the boundaries of others? The answers to those two questions alone could clear up a lot of things.

These first days of Mercury in Scorpio are an opportune time to get clear with yourself because Mercury is slowing down on its way to reverse apparent motion. It will begin its third and final retrograde of the year on Oct. 4.

Because versatile Mercury corresponds with (among other things) your mind and its means of expression, a slower Mercury correlates with closer examinations and more deliberate intonation.

Mercury’s first foray into Scorpio (before retrograding back into Libra on Oct. 10) is a suitable placement for deliberate self-examination because of how Scorpio is individuated as the only fixed water sign.

Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) imply depth in general. Specifically, it’s your own depth that Mercury’s traversal through a watery field of expression would suitably explore. Additionally, a greater intellectual appreciation for the depth of others is possible when Mercury is both slow and wet.

Similarly, when fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) host Mercury, it’s a good time to mentally sort the wheat of perseverance from the chaff of obstinacy. Furthermore, a decelerating Mercury implies greater discernment.

Discernment, in turn, yields greater clarity. That’s how making good use of the quality of the time for the rest of this month and the beginning of October would include going deep within to get clear with yourself.

There is no need to make the process complicated. It’s not necessary to be confused. Simply look deep within yourself as the first order of business and persist until you have found something about what you own that requires both second thoughts and some thoughtful work.

If you can do that — just that, for the next few weeks — Mercury’s retrograde retrace of late Libra will find you better able to relate to how others think (and what they think of you) for having better related to yourself.

If Mercury’s regrade return to Libra does correspond with better relational practices, just think, Mercury’s second ingress to Scorpio come Nov. 10 might even lend itself to the sort of clarity usually associated with crystals. That’s a pretty good payoff if you think about it. The work starts now by getting clear with yourself.

New Moon on 9 Ik/Wind

By Carlos Cedillo

When someone is first beginning to learn about the Mayan calendar, they often wonder if there is a correlation with cycles of the Moon. In fact, one of the faux Mayan calendars proposed by Jose Arguelles in the 1980s is called the “Thirteen-moon” calendar.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is misleading in many ways because the Mayan calendar is more of a fractal-based sacred geometry system. There were many ways the Maya kept track of lunar cycles, but the method invented by Jose Arguelles was certainly not one of them!

That being said, this week I began to explore the meaning of the current New Moon of Sept. 24, 2014, and to my astonishment I discovered a direct link to the New Moon of March 4, 2011…and more reasons not to vote for Hillary Clinton!

I began this quest initially by looking back 260 days, or one tzolkin, from Wednesday’s New Moon, as I always do to see if any important events had taken place that would have an effect on this day’s energetic signature.

The tzolkin glyph 9 Ik/Wind gives its energy to this month’s New Moon today, Sept. 24, 2014. 9 Ik was also the tzolkin day on Jan. 7, 2014, when the Moon was at the first quarter phase.

This month the New Moon is at 1 degree of Libra. The Jan. 7 quarter Moon was at 17 degrees Aries. [Note: the Maya calendar does not depend on the use of degrees of the 12 Western Zodiac signs. I decided to use them here to show the precision of their calculations regardless of this fact.]

In 2013, 9 Ik happened on April 22, Earth day, and the Moon was just about to leave Virgo. It would reach 1 degree of Libra around 5:00 AM (CST) April 23, 2013. So by authentic Mayan Daykeeping, that is just enough time before sunrise to still count as 9 Ik.

Dial back another 260 days and we see Aug. 5, 2012, was also a 9 Ik day. The Moon reached 1 degree of Aries around 6 PM CST. That is just opposite where it is today (as a Full Moon would be)! Let’s keep going with this…

The pattern continues for 9 Ik lunations on Nov. 19, 2011, when a Virgo Moon had few aspects at all. But it would reach 1 degree of Libra the next day — 10 Akbal/Night — making it much like the April 22, 2013 Moon.

Then when we jump back one more tzolkin round (260 days), and 9 Ik lands on the New Moon at 13 degrees of Pisces on March 4, 2011. [Sounds of bells going off here, Bing! Bing! Bing! Bing!]

That was just one week before the tsunami that rocked Fukushima, Japan (March 11, 2011 — 3 Toj/Water) and started the great nuclear disaster still destroying the Pacific Ocean to this day. (March 9, 2011 — 1 Quej/Deer, was also the start of the ninth Underworld according to Dr. Carl Calleman, a scholar of Mayan Daykeeping I have mentioned in previous columns).

I expect something dramatic before the next Full Moon, hopefully in a positive way!

So the moral of the story is do NOT vote for Hillary Clinton! Her Moon is at 22 degrees Pisces, the same sign as the New Moon of March 4, 2011, and she was born on a 9 Ik/Wind day — Oct. 26, 1947. She could cause a Fukushima style disaster here in the U.S. Nothing is fated or written in stone (but that requires that we each make conscious, informed choices).

Do you really want another anointed President? Surely there must be another independent woman not entrenched in the ‘Establishment’ who can run and beat the Republicans. Just sayin’…

So for the rest of this week, watch out for snakes in the grass on Saturday, Sept. 27.

Sunday the 28th is Cosmic Death day: if someone passes, let them go in peace!

One Deer starts a new treceña (13-day cycle) on Monday, so keep your heart compassionate and still like the Buddha.

Listen to some Elvis Presley on Tuesday as you and your BFF make like two rabbits!

Then come back next Wednesday, Oct. 1 — 3 Toj/Water — for more about the Fukushima tsunami and meltdown.

May Awesomeness prevail!

Aho Mitakuye Oyasin!
