Dear Madame Zolonga: Can I Get My Shine Back?

Dear Madame,

Please sort this out for me. I work with a woman in the sales department who’s riding a big-kahuna wave of popularity right now, selling the hell out of our stuff while I’m sitting here trying to figure out if we can make good on her promises to our customers. While everyone’s loving what she’s brought into the company, and I can appreciate the infusion of energy she’s given us, there are complications.

For one, we used to be lovers. For another, I’m still attracted to her — even more so since she’s really seemed to come into her own. I suppose I can be big enough to say I’m somewhat jealous of the attention she’s getting. While I’m the one who gets to ask all the ugly questions, like “how, exactly, are you going to get x to y in time?” she gets to be the sunshine up everyone’s shirt these days. And well, god help me, I wouldn’t mind some of that sunshine again.

Is it time to give this another go? Or do I just hang back here in the shadows minding my own boring business?

— Broody Moody Me

Dear Broody,

Well this is quite the inversion of the usual ‘workplace lovers’ scenario, but one I can imagine is becoming more familiar. At any rate, you can be assured that if your former darling’s in sales, there will always be the challenge of over-promising. Which may have leaked into her personal life — who knows? You didn’t offer that detail.

What comes through instead is a basic image of someone who’s not sure what to do with another person’s perceived success. Perception is everything. As you rightly implied, when we deal in perceptions, we may also deal in deceptions: it’s one thing to sell another on an idea or product, and it’s another to carry the sale through to completion.

So I cast a chart about this to see what’s actually happening. Indeed, your lady is at the top of her game. Venus sits on the MC or ‘high noon’ of my chart, telling me she’s the boss lady and at the peak of her prowess. There’s an assertive, nobody-fuck-with-me edge to her now, and the indication that she knows this is the last big push at the end of something — akin to the last big song and dance number at the end of a show.

Venus is at the last degrees of Leo, and this is the end of a super-long six-month season of people (and women in particular) rediscovering what truly makes their hearts go thump-thump. She’s giving it her all. And indeed, this is what’s made her attractive to you again.

You, on the other hand, look like a man besieged with paperwork, catching up on calls and returning emails long overdue, and working your way back to people with whom you want to connect. This lady? Well, yes.

The problem for both of you is that neither of you have any particular strength now. It’s as if you’re going through motions, paddling until you get to shore, neither here nor there. This suits the ‘weather’ astrology of the moment as well: we’re only two days from Mercury’s stationing direct and already he/she/it has come to an apparent crawl in the sky. Venus, too, will change signs in a day. So much is about to change. Do we push that button now?

Not yet. By the weekend, your Venus will be in new territory so you don’t need to push anything. What goes up must come back down. All her sales promises will require an accounting, and you will be the accountant.

No doubt she’ll have others she’ll need to answer to, as well. What you choose to do with that advantage is up to you, but I suggest shelving your jealousy and working toward a civilized dialog.

Right now this chart doesn’t strongly suggest a reunion, but it does suggest you can make progress, personally and professionally, if you take the walk back to this lady knowing she’s learned a few things about herself these past six months. And you sound as if you’ve learned something, too, about yourself. What is it, then?

You have professional standing; you have a little leverage. She’s got renewed self-worth. Take it one step at a time. Do what you’d do if you like someone: be curious about them, encourage them, keep sharing thoughts with them.

Almost everyone gets winning seasons once in awhile. As any underdog baseball team will tell you, sometimes it’s a long, long time between winning seasons. Why not buy your co-worker a beer and celebrate that winning season now?

Stepping out of her spotlight,

Madame Z

My Year in Retrogrades

Here at Planet Waves we do our best to demystify the movements of the planets. Eric and all the wonderful writers work to break down and dissect everything that could happen to you during all phases of the big and the personal planets, especially Mercury retrogrades.

In our fast-moving days of ever-expanding technology and even faster moving social and cultural change, giving sage words of advice to calm our otherwise well-earned anxiousness whenever a retrograde approaches is a necessary public service by Planet Waves.

With that in mind, as a 12th-house Aquarian with a 3rd-house Gemini Moon and an 8th-house Neptune in Libra, I am not just happy, but ecstatic (no make that FREAKING ecstatic) to say that this year — 2015, the year of Mercury retrogrades in air signs — a.k.a. my year in retrograde Inferno (as in, the Dante kind) is almost o-v-e-r.

2015 began calmly enough. I started rehearsals on our new work the 24th of January during the storm after the Mercury station. We were working on a piece of choreography involving chairs. The move was to do a series of three light lunges while sitting on a chair with our hips squared towards the front of the stage.

Simple enough the first time. Nailed it, in fact. Then came the second time. The third time. The fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth time. By around the tenth time, standing up for a break, my knee was so out of joint I had to favor my other leg to walk off the stage.

Waking the next morning in excruciating pain that ice and arnica treatments could not abate, I stayed in from work, physically unable to take the 20 stairs down from my apartment to leave the house. By around the third day of limping around in agony, I managed to get to Kaiser Hospital where my doctor gave my knee a cortisone shot. It made the inflammation go down enough so that by my birthday on Feb. 1, I could walk with my family as planned from the restaurant in Chinatown where we had my birthday dinner to a small nightclub in North Beach.

But Mercury retrograde (with the help of Mars) was not through with my body yet. Oh no. After three weeks of rehearsal, in late February, the post-retrograde shadow phase in Aquarius, I noticed a deep stinging pain in the back of my head and a throbbing in my forehead, which I incorrectly diagnosed as hay fever. Three advice calls, two doctors and four days later, I developed a rash on the right side of my forehead which grew increasingly worse. “Please,” I thought, “don’t let it be shingles.”

“It’s shingles.” The Kaiser doctor said, as she looked not only at my head but at my eyelid, which was starting to swell. “Luckily, it doesn’t look like it’s in the eye. But I’m scheduling you for an eye exam just in case.”

I sat down to make a few phone calls. The first to my director, asking for a week off to recover and not infect anyone. The next call was to my acupuncturist, whose advice (and this journey) I covered in an earlier article.

With that first retro in Aquarius behind me, I was working hard on taking better care of myself. Getting enough sleep was a priority, as well as taking better care of my knee. All spring and the approaching summer was kind and full of promise as I returned to health. Our NBA team, the Warriors, were in the playoffs. My city was happy. My neighborhood was happy. I woke up the morning of June 5 to find that, despite Mercury in retro phase in Gemini, we had clinched our spot in the NBA finals. I was almost skipping to my car parked a few doors down from the house when I noticed my car’s curbside wheels were on the sidewalk.

Slowly approaching the car, I walked around to its other side. The entire front fender had been totally smashed. My car was totaled. And not only my car, but two other cars parked behind mine were completely crunched. All three of our cars had small white envelopes from Oakland Police. Inside was a notice of accident and an accident report number.

Some neighbors gathered around me. “Is this your car? Oh my God, there was a BIG sound of a crash at 6:00 this morning! It was so loud we woke up and went downstairs to look. There were ten police cars here this morning. The driver of the car that hit yours was going so fast his car completely flipped over.”

Apparently someone else had also enjoyed the Warriors win quite well the night before. By a miracle, he came out alive. But I don’t think his parents were all too pleased to have their insurance pay for my new car.

Are you with me still? I am writing all of this to get to our current week with Mercury retrograde in Libra, which I will call “My Struggle with Passwords” — or its actual working title: “How to Manage iOs Upgrades on Your Devices and Not Screw Yourself Out of Your Primary Email Account.”

If that doesn’t state the problem I am having during this Mercury storm phase, then completely mixing up the date of the first Democratic debate — and telling everyone to check them out Oct. 6 when they are on Oct. 13 — should tell you what part of my life is currently getting Merc-jacked.

If it were me and I had control over the galaxy, I would postpone 2015 and its three retrogrades in air signs altogether and wait for a better time for planet Earth to make its re-appearance back on its orbit around the Sun. Why not? The BBC postpones new episodes of “Sherlock” for long, endless years to accommodate Mr. Cumberbatch’s schedule — maddening for the rest of us, but great for him.

I know. Having control over the galaxy and our orbiting planets is above my pay grade. And really, these retrogrades have schooled me in slowing down, being careful, staying flexible in the midst of shocking reverses and, well, just paying closer attention.

But still I am elated the finish line is near. The end of this current retrograde in Libra and this year of retrogrades in air signs is in sight. With all homage to the great Dante, its been a helluva year. So far. What’s that you say, Len? There’s another retrograde in Aquarius in January 2016?

Lord love a duck.

Initial Conditions

The word “chaos” has a lot of baggage. That baggage has a history. That history, in turn, is probably recurring constantly, but only in an approximate way. The probable expression of recurrence as rhyme rather than exact repetition is key both to your understanding of the universe, and to your empowered participation in it.

len-wallick-logo

Many ancient creation myths posit chaos as the terrifying initial condition of the cosmos. Then, some divine being or other brings a nice, safe, comforting form of order — but at a cost.

The price of positing chaos as the initial state of all things is the surrender of your power. Specifically, it means giving your power away to those who claim to represent divinity and the authority to maintain order.

Observing recurrence either artistically (through astrology or music, among other modalities) or scientifically (such as through mathematics), suggests another point of view: that chaos is only a form of re-ordering. The study and practice of re-ordering, in turn, implies that the universe has a more dynamic potential than the status quo allowed for by creation myths that effectively concentrate the power of many in the hands of a delegated few.

Playing music, practicing astrology, or accounting for chaos mathematically implies that the world is in fact constantly beginning anew in some way that is also familiar. Great musicians, for example, never play the same musical phrase the same way twice. Each recurrence of the phrase then represents the initial conditions for new possibilities.

In a similar way, you are empowered to recognize how familiarity in any given moment of your life constitutes the initial conditions of what could be an entirely new and different way of living — which you can participate in creating, or not.

To do so, however, you must reclaim your power from those who represent themselves as mediating between you and creation. That is not so easy.

The established order promises safety and comfort in return for giving up your power. There is a lot of appeal in that offer if you perceive the alternative as being powerless in a terrifying world. Additionally, those in whose hands power becomes concentrated have a long history of being rather terrifying themselves in response to any challenge.

Think about how vulnerable you feel when accepting responsibility for what you are and what you do, even in small things. It’s a risk. Yet, in taking that risk there is sometimes the prospect that others will see themselves in you, creating the initial conditions for community, beginning with the example you set. If there is anything to astrology, now is one of those times.

Every once in a while the conditions above indicate a familiar song recurring anew below. In the present case, that potential is for creating form anew here below. Even so, astrology cannot answer the questions that will determine what the outcome will look like. That’s where you come in.

One question is whether you will give away your power and allow any re-creation to be formed by others, or whether you will participate in the forming. Another question (assuming your participation) is whether you will act to empower all others in an authentic and genuine new order, or whether you will act to empower just some others in an ostensibly new but actually repetitive recurrence of the old order and its ways.

Without getting all technical on you, the initial conditions currently implied by the astrology are not represented by just one planet. It’s a bigger picture, open to interpretation. However, Saturn, the most familiar planet most often associated with form and definition, is probably the best focus at this time as regards to themes of chaos and order.

More precisely, the best focus is taking into account Saturn’s recent record of about nine months oscillating back and forth in a five-degree corridor of the zodiac between Scorpio and Sagittarius. It may have seemed like a chaotic time for you, but that time is over. Saturn is now embedded in Sagittarius for the next two-plus years.

When a planet changes signs, it is essentially like an orchestra musician changing instruments. A new role in the greater whole is implied, not just for the planet, but for you. Combine that new role with aspects Saturn is now (and will soon be) receiving in Sagittarius from other planets in other signs, and some form of new arrangement would seem to be available for your part in the bigger picture.

When you consider that Saturn takes nearly 30 years to complete its orbit around the Sun (and to complete a circuit of the zodiac’s 12 signs), those new arrangements could very well be historic.

That’s how the interpretation being offered here is that this time in history, and your place in it, will represent a choice embedded in your every decision and action for the two-plus years Saturn will be moving in Sagittarius. The established order, so as to maintain is hegemony, has not taught you how to recognize or to make this choice. You will have to begin learning on your own, but only at first. Other individuals who are not acting to enforce the established order (in other words, most people) will teach you by how they respond to you.

As a first requirement, you will need to examine yourself. Specifically, you will want to look at any way in which you, whether consciously or unwittingly, act as an agent for the power structure. For example, think about any time you might say “shame on you” or otherwise judge others based on criteria that have been handed down to you from those in authority.

Once you consciously and intentionally free yourself from being an unpaid deputy of established hierarchy, you will finally be able to make choices that set a pattern of example — a pattern you have thought through and elected to pursue on your own.

You will know you are facing such potentially lonely choices when you feel vulnerable. You will know you made the right choice when you risk discomfort, and in so doing receive support from other individuals (rather than from established authority) for your example. By the same token, pay attention when others on the same path of reformation as you question your choices.

Those others who are comforted by an example that harmonizes with theirs will constitute the seeds of new community, and will also be your teachers. Now would be a good time to begin recognizing who those allies might be. Doing so may not be easy, but an effort to start could result in a new and better life for more than just you, even long after your natural life has run its course.

So that’s the interpretation being offered here. Where some may see chaos while Saturn moves through Sagittarius, you are being provided with an alternative: to see instead the initial conditions for a better way, and for a better you.

Shadow, Instinct and Redemption

Earlier this week, I began catching up on Planet Waves radio, starting with Eric’s interview with Jacob and Jared. Because I was crunched for time, I listened to the interview before really knowing much about the story, which is not the best way to go; but it is what happened, none-the-less.

Photo by graywacke/A Landing a Day

As I listened, I was taken with how candid and honest the two men seemed to be. I was even more surprised by the ways in which they refused to let the conversation turn into one in which they came out as the victims in any way.

They spoke of the fact that they had to remain present with what they did, with the hurt and pain they caused the women they so callously and disrespectfully talked about in a public forum. I was impressed.

The next day, I decided to do my research into the actual story, and what I read made my stomach hurt. I was particularly dismayed by reports of potentially non-consensual sex with one woman while she was in a hospital and heavily drugged.

I tend to be someone who has an exceptionally high capacity for acceptance and forgiveness, if not just listening to a story without judging. I found, however, that what arose was a general distrust of the two men, despite a strong instinct that their remorse was genuine. What would have happened had they never been outed? Is it helpful to think about those kind of ‘what ifs’?

One thing I am clear about is that places exist where space can be held for sides of a dialogue that are underrepresented in the mainstream dialogue.

Conversations about these topics, whether they’re framed as being under the “rape culture theory,” “misogyny,” “fourth-wave feminism” or “having basic respect for human dignity” categories can be tremendously difficult. Our tendency towards polarization and casting issues in black-and-white terms allows us to bring really big, institutionalized and entrenched concepts down to Earth, so that we can talk about them. At the same time, however, I can’t help but notice the ways that these categories promote division into victim-perpetrator mentality.

What consistently strikes me about the conversation comes from my background in depth psychology, a philosophy that stems from Carl Jung’s ideas about the psyche. I’m currently assisting at a training for people who are studying Deep Memory Process, which is a form of cathartic past-life regression therapy. My days and nights are being filled with awareness of trauma at the level of the body, and understanding it through psychological complexes and the interplay between the conscious and the unconscious. This has me thinking a lot about the Shadow.

In depth psychology, the Shadow is essentially the field where everything that we have repressed and moved out of the light of consciousness exists. This archetype can be understood at the personal level, but also at the collective level as well.

Stripping the theory down, what comes to mind are the ways in which we have been conditioned to repress our animal instincts. In particular, I am referring to the more predatory instinct to kill as well as the instinct to procreate — to fuck. Both have, for various reasons, been repressed throughout the development of western civilization. The animal body and all of its instincts are largely thought of as sinful, shameful, primitive, uncivilized and as something to be kept hidden and repressed.

The fact of their repression does not, however, mean they don’t exist. The repression just means that for most of us, when the energies constellate or rise to the surface, we are unequipped to deal with them and therefore fling them out as projection — as anger, rage and judgment, for example — which might take the form of warfare and rape. Or perhaps the seeking out of sexual conquest or fulfillment.

The primal instinct and energetic imprint that prompts us to kill has not gone away. The instinct to fuck is even more prominent. And, of course, both of those instincts mingle together in an infinite variety of ways, creating the many entwined layers of our personalities, psychological complexes, pathologies and creative instincts.

We can clearly see, and the interviews with the Waking Life Espresso guys elucidate, the ways our society has pathologized these impulses. This creates what sometimes feels to me like a vast void of unsolvable riddles and problems. These men were acting largely based on social conditioning mixing with their inborn impulses in really harmful ways. The women were accepting their advances based on desires that were shaped by the same mixture — although likely never dreaming the exploits would be publicized.

Our tendency towards polarized thinking leads us to cast debates in terms of victim and perpetrator, right and wrong. When we see the victim-perpetrator dynamic play out in the media on the main stage, we then have a public figure onto whom we can project our own shadow material and all of the emotions associated with that material. Hitler would be a prime example of someone who carries the projections of the archetype of Evil. We each have our own personal response to that evil, however.

Reading about the stories from the ‘manosphere,’ my personal reaction was a stomachache and nausea. Someone else’s reaction might be vehement anger and hatred, and another’s might be resignation. The stories stimulate something within us, and the same actions that prompt an anger response from you might prompt a grief response from me, and so on.

Here we can see the contents of the personal shadow bubbling up. Where have I been wronged by men? Where is it that I have wronged men? Or humans for that matter? Perhaps someone else responds with envy, stemming from a long repressed urge to just have meaningless sex and be done with it.

So, where am I going with this? Well, what comes to mind here is the insidiousness of the Catholic Church’s paradigm: that there is no redemption for some, that the evil ones must be cast out of the garden. We as a society do not take well to flawed mainstream characters — hence part of the reason our politicians hide so much. Making a celebrity into a fallen angel gives us a vent for our own darkness.

In the work I do, however, there is nothing that is beyond redemption. When we follow a past-life character through their death moment, into the realm of the soul, they often express guilt, remorse and other emotions associated with their unfinished business. These emotions tend to weigh the soul down, resulting in what we might refer to as earthbound spirits or ghosts who are still attached to the material plane.

In the practice of the therapy, we provide the soul with healing allies and reunion with loved ones. We also provide the opportunity to repent and then atone if the soul needs to. We hold space for healing without judgment. No exorcisms here.

Of course, it’s not as easy as it sounds. Sometimes the souls do have to accept that the victim cannot forgive or forget. But we still work to resolve the complex that is keeping the soul weighted down so that they can return to source, or back to the present-life person in a kind of across-space-and-time soul retrieval.

Even if you’re not inclined to believe in past life memory or soul retrieval, the basic premise is the same: perhaps the continuing cycle of casting out the perpetrator, or the impulse that we don’t like, is just perpetuating the cycle of perpetrator-victim thinking. In my experience, we each have some of both inside of us, and the tendency to cling onto either identity, whether consciously or unconsciously, causes harm. It’s in holding space for those parts to be witnessed and moved through that the healing comes.

What does that mean on the practical level? Well, it’s incredible to me that the kind of dialogue that Eric had with Jared and Jacob occurred here. I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it — having safe spaces and containers in which people can process all of their stuff, whatever that means, is totally integral to our moving forward into a paradigm that is less about who was wronged and who did the wrong. Although claiming the victim identity can be a helpful step towards empowerment, it can also become an all-encompassing identity that starts to impede that same empowerment.

I’ve also been thinking a lot about the container of interpersonal relationships, especially those of the intimate variety. For example, sometimes sex and violence do go together. Again, they are primitive, often unconscious impulses that are inherently linked. Bringing those impulses to awareness, understanding what they feel like when they’re being triggered, and then having the self-consciousness to act upon it from a place of knowledge, is huge.

My involvements in the kink community have been fairly limited, but are ongoing. Some of the most profound learning has come from being open to people’s fantasy lives, and then being able to act those fantasies out as consenting adults.

I once had a lover who was very open with me about his rape fantasies, which allowed me to be open about my own. Through talking and negotiation, we were able to act the fantasies out, to the great delight of both of our sex drives, in a container where trust had been established.

Both of us had talked about our own direct and indirect experiences with sexual violence, as well as our experiences dealing with these things in and out of therapy. This kind of play is not for everyone, of course, but it provides a great example of bringing that shadow to the surface, becoming as aware of it as possible, and then consciously discharging or using the energy.

The animal body is not going anywhere. It has its preferences for sensation and touch and ways of getting its own needs met. It is not inherently sinful or shameful, and undoing the thousands of years of conditioning that say differently is tough work.

The change is happening, however. Holding space for the recognition of humans as humans — the connecting ground of soul, body and spirit, in all of its complex, flawed wonder — is imperative. Sometimes we’ll come across someone or something that brings that insane, volatile level of angry reaction to the surface, and that’s OK too. Perhaps there are others who can hold the space for their witnessing and atonement.

Making people into perpetual demons that must be cast out of the garden, never to be redeemed, seems like a waste of energy to me. Not all men are rapists, not all women victims — or out to demonize men, for that matter. It is not a problem of men vs. women.

It is a problem of distortions of the masculine and the feminine within our current paradigm. Rather than constantly vilifying and somehow then popularizing specific figures, I believe it is up to us to perhaps channel the rage that stems from injustice; we can channel it into creative reconstructions of our institutions and ways of viewing the world, using a cohesive, wide-angle lens.

Weekend Tarot Reading — Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015

By Sarah Taylor

Between Scylla and Charybdis; between a rock and a hard place; the devil and the deep blue sea. The Lovers have a choice to make, and it may be useful to bear in mind that the most immediate choice is not the only one available to you. Nor the second, even. Let’s look at both of those choices first.

five_wands_lovers_nine_swords_rohrig_sm

Five of Wands, The Lovers, Nine of Swords from The Röhrig Tarot deck, created by Carl-W. Röhrig. Click on the image for a larger version.

To the right of The Lovers sits the Nine of Swords. Cruelty. This is the card that comes after the Eight of Swords (seen in the centre in the linked picture here), its presence implied in this reading, where the protagonist — you — felt trapped by circumstances, unable to find a way out, when in reality it was simply your mind and its fixation on a particularly narrow set of circumstances that held you in place.

Now, the Nine is the concretisation of your predicament, your indecision and misgivings solidified into barbs and razored edges that you’re wont to turn on yourself. The Nine is regret, pain, anguish, worry.

“Why did I let that happen?”
“What if I’d made a different decision?”
“I knew I’d fuck it up.”

The most painful part of the Nine is not, however, the truth of your circumstances, but the supposed ‘truth’ you buy into without subjecting it to thorough, dispassionate scrutiny. It is also the supposed ‘truth’ you buy into when you’ve forgotten your blood-red heart beating in your chest, and the love that it holds — for yourself, for others.

You don’t need to go there. You’ve been there before and you know what it feels like. This time, you have a choice not to go there. The Lovers lie at centre, choice embodied.

What else can you choose from? To the left of The Lovers lies the Five of Wands. Wands are associated with creative energy, whether that’s artistic, performance-orientated, sexual — anything where you feel that fiery drive in the pit of your belly and an urge to harness and make use of it.

Except with the Five there is a sense of being separated from the truth of what you want and need to create. There is a lack of fully owning and directing your creativity. When the Five of Wands is in activation in your life, something feels like it’s holding you down and back. Nevertheless, the yearning and drive remain. You can do this. There is the potential to break free from the strictures of inertia and ambivalence and come to stand fully by your own side. The Five speaks of the quest to find your inner authority by getting behind your creativity. Who’s going to support what you’re doing if you don’t?

And so there are the two obvious choices: self-denigration to the right of you, disorganisation to the left. Back to the card at centre, which has its own message.

In the Tarot de Marseille, one of the oldest incarnations of the tarot, The Lovers depicts not two people, but three. As does it in the Rider-Waite Smith tarot: the man, the woman, and the angel. Here, in The Röhrig version, we have three hands. The third choice is a creative one that isn’t immediately available if one is stuck in the land of duality. In our world of up-down, in-out, back-forth, masculine-feminine, we tend to forget that we are on a sliding scale of experience. We don’t need to choose between two black-and-white options: looking between the obvious, we find the shades of grey.

The paradox is that duality offers every option under the Sun.

Maybe it is that you find yourself at a point where there are two very familiar roads in front of you. One road is associated with the negative self-talk that has the power to undo what you have worked towards but so far never quite attained. The other road is associated with a lack of cohesive effort to bring to fruition what has been calling you to shape it into existence for — how long, now, dear reader?

Because, make no mistake, there is something beautiful that is present in your life. A balance that creates a third way. You are being watched over by angels as you sleep. Maybe now you can wake up and see what is available to you — what has been available all along. The power and will to step into a version of yourself that has creativity at its core. Your desire to bring something to life, to bring it down to earth, to feel the rush of life through your veins.

It’s not an illusion. You can do it. Time to steer away from what has always felt fatalistic and shift tracks, shift out of familiar patterns, reach for what is there. And take it.
