Soon after entering Sagittarius the Moon meets up with the Sun for a New Moon. This is an opening into the future, as Sagittarius is inclined to be visionary. Notice how you create your life, and how you go from idea to action.

The Mars-Uranus opposition of the weekend is now dissipating. Venus is still in Sagittarius, separating from Sunday’s conjunction to Jupiter and the Galactic Core. The challenge is to focus on the spiritual essence of what we call love. Spiritual means truth, faith and trust.

Venus enters Capricorn late Monday the 25th (early on the 26th in Europe), which fosters a more pragmatic and duty-oriented idea of love. The high ideals of Sagittarius can seem to disappear as planets enter Capricorn, but the truth remains. Generosity, heart and receptivity still deserve a place at your table, and you’re the one who must hold that space open.

Today and tomorrow, the astrology is marked by two rather different major aspects. One is a conjunction of Venus and Jupiter in Sagittarius: the planets of love and expansion in the sign of optimism. On its surface, this describes fantastic social energy, compassion, and ‘luck’ or abundance — especially for relationships of all kinds. Today the Sun enters free-spirited Sagittarius (at 9:59 am EST), following the Moon’s early sign change into Libra. Vesta, still on its retrograde through Taurus, will also form a trine aspect to Saturn in Capricorn. This is a connection that’s all about work and devotion. If you want to make headway with an ongoing project, and you’re willing to put in the elbow grease, this aspect might not drive your engines but it should clear the path.

With the Sun’s presence in Sagittarius we should also begin feeling the good-vibe conjunction between Venus and Jupiter in that sign, which will be exact on Sunday. This influence culminates at the same time that Mars exactly opposes Uranus, on the 24th. Such contrasting dynamics occurring together may describe the inspired energy necessary to break through log-jams to achieve a more ideal condition. Especially since Mercury is under the influence of Mars, now also in Scorpio. Mars is fierce in its own sign, and moving into opposition with Uranus. Mars opposing Uranus is a volatile face-off that can trigger impatience, resentment and impulsive rebellion. This high-octane aspect won’t be exact until Sunday, but the energy is palpable and will build in intensity.

The potential up-side to Mars opposite Uranus in Taurus is the impetus to shake up long-standing fixed patterns that have impeded progress. To reap those rewards, proceed with deliberation and avoid unnecessary risks. Careful attention and mindfulness are always advised during a Mercury storm phase, and this week calls for particular awareness. Caution in any potentially hazardous activities and sensitivity in relating to others are called for. Take as relaxed an approach to the day as possible and strive to make good use of your time. The sense of satisfaction will help wind down tension.

Also, continue to keep your ears peeled, and be careful of jumping to conclusions until you’re sure you have all the relevant information. It could be all too easy today to form an opinion that doesn’t take into account all the facts.

Mercury stations direct today at 2:12 pm EST in Scorpio. As ever, during the few days around the station (known as Mercury storm, when its apparent speed is slowest), things could still be a little awkward and stilted. Mercury storm has this quality because reversing course, figuratively or literally, takes a good deal of effort, especially if there’s momentum involved. Think of a large ship switching its engines from reverse to forward thrust, churning up the water, and you have an excellent image for how your mind (and the minds of others) may be feeling.

The Moon today continues its journey through Virgo, which potentially adds to the tension, and could result in frayed nerves or tempers. It’ll help if you avoid getting into situations where you know you could be provoked. Consider alternative ways in which you might expend some energy — preferably creative or fun.

You may be spurred to move forward on matters that have lain dormant or appeared somewhat impassable. However, it’s worth holding back a little on the momentum until Mercury has had a chance to switch directions, since the station direct almost always comes with a revelation of some kind.

Jupiter catching up to the Galactic Core may bring a revelation of a different nature. This rare conjunction in Jupiter’s own sign could denote a turning point, or new ideas emerging, in terms of spiritual orientation — like a compass enabling you to make a steering correction. With the Galactic Core, though, you need to make sure you keep records as your understanding changes, since the information obtained through this point has a way of disappearing into the ethers.

A busy and turbulent astrological week ahead kicks off today with Mars in the last degree of Libra, an inherently tense and edgy placement. The final degrees of a sign are considered ‘critical,’ and planets there can inspire a sense of urgency. This could go double for Mars, which expresses ego drives and the action we must take to fulfill them. The warrior of the planetary pantheon has been debilitated in Libra; it’s a scratchy combination where martial energies must work within diplomatic channels, instead of acting with direct force. As the ruler of the Scorpio Sun and Mercury, this might have translated into feeling frustrated and more hampered in your efforts than usual, even and especially given Mercury’s retrograde.

Mars enters its feminine home sign of Scorpio overnight (2:40 am Tuesday, EST), setting the stage for Mercury’s station direct on Wednesday. That means we’re in the Mercury storm, and usual precautions for extra attentiveness are in order. In Scorpio, the swirling and potentially confusing conditions as Mercury approaches its apparent change of direction might register with a heavy sense of emotional momentum, lurking beneath the surface.
