Planet Waves Monthly Horoscope for September 2017

Planet Waves Monthly Horoscope for September 2017, #1164 | By Eric Francis
Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — The question of your relationships is about devotion. That does not imply monogamy or sex, or living together, or getting married, or being jealous, or even being together. What is strongly implied is making sure that you hold open the space for the right thing to happen. That might mean accepting the relationship in a new form; it certainly means consciously embracing the changes and the growth process of the people you care the most about. Yet the astrology I’m describing is not merely personal or private. It’s about your relationship to ‘the world’, which means to your environment and all the people in it. Right now this is likely to have some unusual properties, which defy the usual course of your romantic relationships. Take these opportunities eagerly; you will learn many deep and beautiful lessons as your habitual relational tendencies are altered by new experiences. There’s a dual question: what is the meaning of sex, and what is the meaning of non-sex? Take these slowly. Notice the erotic qualities of every exchange, especially those relationships which specifically exclude what we think of as sex. This will teach you more about the meaning and nature of your erotic life than nearly anything else. Hold space for this learning process. Hold space for the people in your life to grow, change and evolve. Hold space for reality to enter. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Your creative fires are burning hot and clean. And your solar chart is revealing a devotion to your work that’s unusual even for you. This is the beginning of a long-awaited new phase of your professional life, one where the work itself is all that matters. However, you still have that one little skill you need to practice, which is the one about getting out of your own way; the one about not overthinking things; the one about trusting your process. They’re part of the same thing. It’s possible that the sheer strength of your talent, passion and devotion will get you past that little knee-high fence that your life story includes constantly hopping over. Yet when there’s so much energy moving, you’re running like a race horse: with precision, and where stumbling can be catastrophic. So keep an eye on that little fence. Make a habit of removing stumbling blocks before you get to them, rather than after. Establish the central purposes of your life, and then organize your life around fulfilling them. Your relationships will need to follow suit. You may find yourself investing your abundant sexual energy into other purposes, which is OK to a point, though with so much happening, and so much needing to be done, you simply must make room for human contact, for long nights together, and for good food. Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Recent astrology, from the total eclipse to Mercury retrograde that’s about to end, have all challenged your sense of grounding and security. You’ve established a new relationship with your living space, with certain relatives, and with the experience of being alive on Earth today. If you can do one thing — be less judgmental, and more observant — you will release a torrent of energy. And in the process of doing what amounts to breaking an inner dam, you will feel safer. That must translate to much more than feeling secure inside your four walls. You have to take this into your outer environment. Many people are feeling really, really shaken up right now. They don’t necessarily have your power of eternal optimism, or your ability to see things from six viewpoints at once. You are, in a sense, a teacher of safety and of security merely in your gesture of feeling safe. Yet you need to go past that, and translate safety into belonging. This in turn translates to feeling confident enough to speak your mind and do your part, even in the face of what seem to be many reasons not to. When the Sun moves into Libra on the 22nd (the equinox) is when you will truly be summoned to courage and to action. Spend the weeks leading up to that in earnest preparation. Get your house in order. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Your astrological sign (or rising sign) is one ideally suited for the art and craft of writing. Though I’ve never seen this in a book, it’s obvious from study of your solar chart, which emphasizes the sign Virgo right where it’s needed most, the 3rd house of communications. Virgo has been bristling for many weeks, and it’s especially strong now, with Mercury retrograde wrapping up, with the Sun present, and with Venus and Mars approaching. In recent history, computer programmers emerged as the most powerful people. In the world that’s rising, people who can write coherently, with accuracy, and with a touch of elegance will possess a skill that’s on the level of alchemy. It doesn’t matter if you don’t consider yourself a professional writer; devote yourself to learning how to express yourself in written language, and to do so well. This can only come with daily practice. This would include writing letters, emails and stories where you reread, revise and proofread three to five times. What we call writing is 90% thinking; and most of the time, that happens in the revision process. This is something entirely different from our dominant world of tweets and social posts, which are like popcorn compared to the nourishing, potent effects of crafted sentences, paragraphs and essays. The harder this is for you, the more you need to do it. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Planet Waves

“I have just listened to your Part 1 and Part 2 readings and I am amazed at how accurate it has been. Like you have a telescope watching me shed a skin and transform into a totally changed person in the last 10 years.”

— Pauline Jones

If you have a Leo Sun, rising sign or Moon, how are you feeling about your vision for your life, and in what ways are you ready to take action toward it? On Aug. 21, a total solar eclipse in Leo signaled the second stage of whatever life-shifting process you’re engaged with.

The reverberations from the recent eclipse will keep rippling out and developing through the next six to twelve months — and Eric’s 2017-18 Leo Birthday Reading will be designed to guide you through it all.

“The past few years have been very difficult on many levels and it has been the readings I get through you that keep me going. Always, absolutely right on, every one of them.”

— Rhonda

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — The world, and your world, is still reverberating with the effects of the total solar eclipse that happened in your sign on Aug. 21. Whatever may be going on for the people in your life, you’ve arrived at a threshold of your journey on Earth. You may now see that the signs of this go back about two years; many events happened in preparation for what you’re experiencing now, and what you’re about to experience. Hang loose, stretch your body, and feed yourself well. Keep dedicated people around you. You’re entering a period of achievement, which will require that you have a high level of accountability — and that you bank on all of your skills. As events progress in the outer world, you will be focusing inwardly on an incredible process of becoming. This is the full development of what used to be called personhood. Most people don’t have this quality inherently upon being born. It’s learned, earned, claimed and re-claimed many times in the course of a lifetime. Some acquire it through loss, pain and sorrow. Some learn it consciously, by taking on the challenges of growth, by consciously embracing change, and by persistently seeking understanding of themselves. There’s nothing convenient about this, though in the end, you will only gain. In the coming seasons, vast new horizons of experience will open up. Welcome them joyfully. The first astrology segment of your 2017-18 Leo Birthday Reading by Eric is now published. This is a seminal year for Leo Sun, rising and Moon, especially with the upcoming powerful solar eclipse in your sign. Make this dynamic energy work for you — order your reading today.
Virgo

Attention Virgo: Just one day after Monday’s exciting total solar eclipse, the Sun moves into your sign — bringing that energy signature front and center into your life, while it’s still fresh. Its effects will continue to reverberate and develop for months to come, interacting with a whole host of astrology central to your year ahead. Eric will be covering all the most compelling areas of your life in your upcoming 2017 Virgo Birthday Reading: relationships, career, creativity, family, healing and more. You’re invited to pre-order it now, while it’s at its lowest discounted price.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — When Mercury, your ruling planet, stations direct on Sept. 5, it does so in the exact same degree as the now-infamous total solar eclipse that happened on Aug. 21. The eclipse created an opening, and now you’re about to find out what was really going on. This will, perhaps, take the rest of the month, because you’ll need to integrate a discovery that you may find quite unbelievable. The odd bits include how what you figure out was right where you could have seen it all along; and then, how you’ll have to consciously make sense of the discovery. What’s actually happening is that your mind is opening up in a way that’s never happened before. You’re becoming more sensitive to an inner source of information, which you can depend upon implicitly. Said another way, you are changing; the structure of your psyche is changing; you are, in truth, a much larger being than you ever imagined. Practicing using these skills, and being this person, will build your confidence in ways you’ve never imagined possible. The way that a shamanic teacher might phrase things, you’re entering into a new relationship to the vast unknown, which you contain. You must stand in a conscious relationship to the mystery of your existence. Let it be what it is, without the need to ‘solve’ or even resolve anything. Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — When the Sun enters your sign on Sept. 22, it forms a conjunction to Vesta. Potentially the most interesting asteroid, Vesta says you have a job to do, to which you must devote yourself with your whole being. You might think of this as a birthday gift from the universe. That the Sun and Vesta meet up early in your sign, activating what’s called the Aries Point, describes the kind of impact that you may have. Yet you may be working behind the scenes for a while, and you’ll have to do some of what might seem like thankless work. Don’t worry about that part: all your efforts count. Between now and when this astrology starts to phase in around Sept. 18 (when Vesta enters your sign), do whatever mental work, housekeeping, karma-clearing and meditation that you need. Each day, make a little progress. Your inner life is particularly rich right now. You may be feeling the effects of many past experiences, in the form of processing them, or searching for their true meaning. If you put your exploration into writing, it will be more satisfying, more effective and give you some documentation to refer to. The form of this writing would be, “this is how I feel about [whoever or whatever] today.” Then do that day by day. After a few weeks, you’ll have a clue — and you’ll be free to move ahead. Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Recent events have thrust you into the spotlight, and also made you subject to a degree of public critique. You don’t have an especially thick skin, so this is having its challenging moments. One way to handle this is to guide yourself into living with an unusual degree of transparency. With the people who matter, state your motives, your desires and your needs. Be willing to reveal what you would not ordinarily allow anyone to know, and feel how strong you are when you have no secrets. When Mercury stations direct on the 5th, you may get an extra push in that direction, so make sure all your words and deeds are honorable and fit for public consumption. The current state of our society is that everything comes out sooner rather than later. Meanwhile, there are people looking your way, with the expectation that you understand something they do not. If this isn’t true today, it’s likely to be pretty soon. You have a proverbial finger on the pulse of public opinion. There’s a shift in direction taking place, and your mind is already ahead of the curve. This started in mid-August, but now you’re picking up increasingly clear signals about what’s developing. The purpose of this is not to predict, and certainly not to be gloomy. Rather, your knowledge gives you and the people you care about a distinct advantage. Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — You’ll need to keep a high level of influence, and at times control, over all of your projects and affairs. You’re in that spot where every detail must be aligned with your grand plan. The gel has not fully set, and you still have considerable influence over just how that happens. Focus on the order in which things need to be done, and laying the groundwork for the future through careful preparation. Focus on who your closest colleagues and allies are; now is the time to firm up arrangements. Several turning points to keep in mind are Mercury changing directions on Sept. 5, which will help resolve any tension in work-related partnerships, and get some additional cash flowing; the Sun’s ingress into Libra on the 22nd, which will raise your visibility and shift your priorities onto the big picture; and your ruling planet Jupiter’s ingress into Scorpio on Oct. 10, which will refresh your creative well and allow you to draw energy from a much deeper place. There are likely to be many people and many seemingly separate projects involved.
You are the conductor of this orchestra, because it’s your life and your vision being expressed. Just keep reminding yourself over and over again: this has nothing to do with your parents, except perhaps what you learned from them. You are the next generation. You are the future.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Are you wrestling with your conscience? Do you need to think about what is good, what is true, and what is righteous? This is preferable to doing the wrong thing, but I wonder what the questions or even struggle is about. You don’t need so much theory behind your approach to life, to love, or to work. You don’t need to plan as much as you do, especially if planning helps you feel less insecure. Nearly a decade of Pluto in your sign has taught you that everything forever changes. Yet you are the focus of change at the moment; though it’s a particularly challenging form of change since what seems to be most influenced is the structure of your psyche. What’s actually happening is that a personality husk is falling away, and you’re exposing something more elemental and much closer to your core. This is about direct experience, not any form of theory. In a short time you’re going to start making decisions, which is a basic level of leadership, and you’ll need to choose on the basis of what is objectively right more than what seems right for you personally. What is right is right, and what is true is true, and it’s time that you embrace a wider concept of yourself, something that’s all-encompassing and committed to your true mission, rather than your questions about it. Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — There seem to be more alterations to your financial affairs than in a tailor shop during prom season. Yet you’re stitching together a coherent plan, and something with potential. What you need, though, is a more compassionate embracing view of your partnerships. You could do more with certain people, if you recognized how productive the relationships really are. You seem to have a firewall set up between your shared mission with certain people, and your ability to bring that mission to fruition. It’s almost as if you’re reluctant to consummate the marriage on the first night of the honeymoon. Sometimes hesitation is appropriate, though you would feel more confident if you really understood that your interests are not even vaguely separate from the people around you. You share purpose, you share resources, you share necessities. It’s only a flimsy Chinese wall that keeps you thinking there is some division or divergence. You’ll start to see the light when Vesta and the Sun move into your fellow air sign Libra in a few weeks. At that point, you’ll have a view from a higher altitude, though once you see the lay of the land, come back to Earth. Your services and indeed your inspiration are needed here, in a world that’s struggling for any reason to believe that good things are possible, and where people are struggling to have faith in themselves. Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — There are suddenly many people in your life: various shades of partners, prospects, potentials, friends, lovers and a few who are deeply devoted to you. Give them credit for showing up every time they do. Make a special effort to see them as whole beings, with whole lives, which happen to interface with yours in a few key places. You possess something that most of them do not, which you might think of as a broad perspective on time, and a rather wide definition of purpose. You see the connections that other people so often miss. You see relevance and patterns where most others see only data, or trivia. Saturn has shifted to direct motion in your house of leadership and responsibility. This is focusing your drive to take responsibility for the whole world you live in. Vesta and the Sun are headed for Libra, which is about you being a master of resources. Even if you have an abundance, use it wisely, save for a rainy day, and plan your future investments carefully. With so many variables in play, you will need to be vigilant about staying in focus and on mission. If you’re willing to do that, apply yourself modestly, and have respect for the value of time, you are headed for an unusual period of achievement. Just remember, you didn’t do it alone. All Eyes on the Eclipse Degree, and Mercury Retrograde

Eclipse. Digital Art by A4size-ska. Background data: European Southern Observatory.

Dear Friend and Reader:

Now that the eclipse itself has passed, the standout factor in the sky is Mercury retrograde in Virgo. All the interesting things that happen over the next two weeks involve Mercury. For example, the Sun and Mercury will form their interior conjunction on Saturday, marking the halfway point of the retrograde.

Then Mercury will form a conjunction to a weird, barely-extant point called Transpluto, which combination feels like a camel going through the eye of a needle. Then, Mercury will make a conjunction to Mars, and then stop and station direct in the exact degree of the eclipse — 29 degrees of Leo.

Count Yourself In

Dear Friend and Reader:

It’s tempting, in times of pain, chaos and transformation, to think there are no opportunities for you to participate, or feel like life is so insane that nothing matters, and besides, the world is ending anyway. Plenty of people are caught in the meme that nothing makes a difference, especially them.

I know it can seem that way. We’re moving at the compressed speed of events between eclipses, and our minds are warped into the light-speed movement of electric communication that delivers the latest crisis to our purse or pocket in mere seconds. Everything is accelerated, magnified and thrown into a mash-up with everything else streaming across your news feed and beleaguered brain.

Planet Waves Weekly Horoscope for August 7-13, 2017

Your Weekly Horoscope for August 7-13, 2017, #1162 | By Eric Francis Coppolino
Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Most people will do nearly anything to be part of a group, which leads to some dangerous possibilities. Many of them are psychological and spiritual, though it’s clear that people will do things as part of a group that they would never do as individuals. The time has come to stand apart from certain people in your life, and the things that they do. You are well beyond the point of needing either conformity or approval from your peers when you express your personal intentions and desires. What you want to do would indeed be curtailed or hemmed in by seeking approval, whether you seek different forms of relationships, expressing yourself as an artist, or doing what feels right as a lover. If you want to get out of the habit of looking for validation, today’s eclipse will be a boon. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — You may have some experiences this week that will help you see through a group dynamic that’s taken shape in your life. Any activity that involves what feels like a ‘family’ will help you clarify your early experiences and how they have shaped you as an adult. The moment you’re aware of the connections, you will be on top of whatever game is implicated, and you may make a discovery that will serve you for a lifetime. Remember that when people get involved in groups, they tend to subjugate their individuality, and as a result do things they would never otherwise do. If you spot this tendency in yourself, that’s the time to raise your awareness and to start making decisions. There may be considerable pressure to do what’s not right for you, though this is nothing compared to the rewards of living with integrity. Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — If you say less, you will be saying more. It’s your natural tendency to give the longer version of the story, and to provide the background information too. This is especially true with the Sun and Mars in your house of communicating. However, your ruling planet Mercury is slowing down, and you would be well advised to focus your message and to say only what is necessary. This way, you’ll have greater impact. If you must say a lot, put it in writing, and don’t publish it right away. Spoken words have a tendency to disappear, which gives them relatively little impact. The written word is an enduring thing, though this would rightly be in some form other than tweets or other social media posts. You do indeed have something to say, and you deserve the opportunity to make it count. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Venus in your sign is inviting you to immerse yourself in the best that life has to offer. We’re in the season of eclipses — a lunar eclipse occurs today, and a solar eclipse is coming soon. Eclipses help you break old habits and establish new ones. That’s an invitation to spend your time doing as much of what you love as you can. Do the things you rarely seem to have time for, but which you know nourish you. Speaking of nourishment, any habits around food that you cultivate now have a much greater chance of becoming established. One message coming from your solar chart is to eat as many meals at home as you can. This will save you money, reduce your intake of unwholesome ingredients, and help ground you in your home — which for one born under your sign is essential. To the Leo Eclipse and Beyond!

In just over two weeks, on Aug. 21, a total solar eclipse in Leo signals the second stage of whatever life-shifting process you’re engaged with.

This is a unique year for you, Leo. In addition to the current eclipses (and the double New Moons in your sign), Eric plans to discuss in your upcoming reading such astrological heavyweights as Chiron finishing up its journey through your 8th house; ever-surprising Uranus; and Saturn leaving your fellow fire sign, Sagittarius — plus more.

Are you navigating changes in your relationships or family paradigm? Do you find yourself at a career crossroads? Are you seeking clarity, encouragement and new perspectives on your creativity, self-esteem, sexuality or healing process? You’ll find ideas and reassurance in this reading.

“I have just listened to your Part 1 and Part 2 readings and I am amazed at how accurate it has been. Like you have a telescope watching me shed a skin and transform into a totally changed person in the last 10 years.”

— Pauline Jones

Your reading is now priced at $44; so you’ll want to pre-order your 2017 Leo Reading very soondefinitely before it publishes, when the price is set to increase again. This reading is designed to work for anyone with Leo Sun, Leo rising and even Leo Moon — and makes an amazing gift.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Monday there is an eclipse of the Moon in the angle of your chart that describes your relationships, and the environment that surrounds you. Suddenly it seems that environment is changing in significant ways. Mostly this will come in the form of letting go of old friends and getting some new ones. It’s essential to go through this every once in a while, especially if your goals, your sense of purpose, or your idea of who you are becoming are changing. Essentially, you need friends who are not threatened by your willingness to change and grow. There’s no way to overstate this necessity. You are indeed evolving rapidly; and having people around you who in some way object or are made nervous by that fact is a perfect way to thwart your own progress. If someone really cares about you, they will honor your need to grow. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — This is an interesting week in the history of Virgo. Mercury, your ruling planet, is about to station retrograde in your sign. This happens Saturday, Aug. 12, though the effect will be full strength through the week. What’s so original is that Mercury is making a long conjunction to Vesta, a beautiful and complex asteroid whose themes of service and devotion relate to your sign. Two themes emerge: one is about holding space for the right thing to happen. You don’t have to make it happen; your role will be to facilitate. This may mean serving as a translator in a moment of sensitive communications at a time of confusion and misunderstanding. Without taking sides, serve the role of keeping the channels open and clear. Second, there’s something personal here about how your relationships happen. One keynote of Vesta is unusual relationship patterns. Most of the seemingly normal things that people do are not really for you; and if you can accept that fact, you get to experience your own distinct and unique form of beauty in love and bonding. Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — It’s been a while since anyone figured out that feeding the people is a key to bonding, cooperation and respect. That’s what your charts are about this week. Venus, the Libra planet, is crossing your 10th house of responsibility and authority, which for you is the sign Cancer. You are a caregiver in any leadership role, though particularly this week — with Venus conjunct Ceres, the goddess of food — you must look after your flock. Figure out a way to actually provide food for the people you work with, whether your colleagues or those who report to you. Bring food, order some in, or take people out to a meal — whatever works for you, as long as you’re the one who is doing the nurturing. With food comes a conversation, and with Mercury in such interesting form (see Virgo), there will be plenty to talk about. Focus on making the world a better place, starting here and now. Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Mars and the Sun continue to streak across the most visible area of your solar chart this week, while a lunar eclipse is about to happen in one of the most private areas. In old-school thinking, this is a reminder that you must balance devotion to your professional life and your personal life. I would offer another idea, which is that you must be the same person in private spaces as you are in public. You cannot divide your character, despite the popular perception that this is possible. You are one person, living one life. Your inner truth and your outer truth are one thing. Therefore, toss aside all excuse-making, and anything designed to enhance your image, and be absolutely sincere in all that you do. You will gain strength by revealing your vulnerabilities. And you will go deeper into this rarefied thing known as integrity, which is the very substance of life. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — This week, Mercury stations retrograde in the angle of your chart associated with accountability, responsibility and leadership. This is an indicator to take things slowly and in incremental steps. You need to be aware that you’re not working with full information, which is typical of the week that Mercury stations retrograde or direct. There’s always some key data that will be shaken out of the cosmos, and you need to pause major decisions until you have a grasp on what that is. You may feel like you’re acting in a sincere and noble way, only to discover you did the opposite of what was necessary. Take this approach through the whole Mercury retrograde — the really interesting information comes to light at the very end of the process, during the first week of September. It will be worth doing this, even if it seems inconvenient. Both your reputation and the common good are at stake. So: one calm, calculated day at a time. Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Belief is fragile, and it verges on useless. Why is that? Believing something tends to extinguish the quest for truth. What’s worse, most beliefs are of themselves not based on reality, on facts, or even on accurate perceptions. This week, Mercury stations retrograde in the angle of your chart associated with religion, spirituality and all processes of learning. You have Virgo in this angle, which describes your tendency to want the details before you offer your trust. That would be a wholesome approach to life this week. Let yourself ask the big questions. Don’t be in a hurry to have answers; let the mystery stand, and feel the strength that doing so gives you. Your quest through the Earthly plane of existence is driven by your questions, and it’s suspended by accepting false answers. A new phase of your quest begins this week. Be bold and stay hot on the trail…of whatever you may seek. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Monday there’s an eclipse of the Moon in your sign. This may influence several facets of your life, though none more than your commitment to the work that you do. You are inspired to do good work because you care. You know that money is a relatively small influence for you, though you need to be mindful of cash flow. So make sure that you’re doing what you love to do, just in case you have to do a lot more of it. The other aspect of existence covered by this eclipse is your overall health and wellbeing. You simply must commit to this as a way of life. You must eat real food, drink pure water (coffee and soft drinks do not count) and get actual rest on a nightly basis. This is about longevity, and it’s also about efficiency. If you work yourself into exhaustion, your efficiency goes down; and if you’re well rested and prepared, it increases rather dramatically. You know all of this. Put it to good use. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — There’s a mysterious angle of every chart, called the 12th house. This is the zone of the chart that covers parallel realities, like dreams and experiences on drugs; it includes cinema and any form of illusion; and if we look to Vedic astrology (the kind practiced in India), the 12th covers “the pleasures of the bed.” Today there is an eclipse in this area of your chart, which will stir up your deepest desires, your fantasies, and maybe some psychological clutter that you’ll want to look at before you toss it in the dustbin. Fortunately, at the same time, Venus is moving through Cancer, which is encouraging you to take a physical and emotional approach to your desires, rather than just sending some saucy texts. Let yourself out of your container. Let yourself be the physical, sensuous, erotic person that you are. If you make yourself available to people you trust, everyone will benefit. Of Nuclear Bombs and Reasoning

Dear Friend and Reader:

Yesterday, I was poking around the pages of The Onion, when I found this article: Historians Admit To Inventing Ancient Greeks. It featured a photo of two scholarly-looking pundits, and began:

“WASHINGTON — A group of leading historians held a press conference Monday at the National Geographic Society to announce they had ‘entirely fabricated’ ancient Greece, a culture long thought to be the intellectual basis of Western civilization.”

The Death of Socrates, by Jacques-Louis David (1787).

Without wasting a single moment, I posted this to Facebook. Andrew McLuhan, our resident media theorist, responded quickly: “I dunno…a little too on the nose to be funny?”

The article continued:

“The group acknowledged that the idea of a sophisticated, flourishing society existing in Greece more than two millennia ago was a complete fiction created by a team of some two dozen historians, anthropologists, and classicists who worked nonstop between 1971 and 1974 to forge ‘Greek’ documents and artifacts.”

I thought it was so funny because it was kind of true: history is largely a fictional contrivance. Who really knows what was going on in 500 BC? Who told the current historians? Other historians! Who told them? Other historians! Who the heck knows what was really going on? It sounds like “turtles all the way down.”

Planet Waves Monthly Horoscope for August 2017, #1160 | By Eric Francis
Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Life is creative. Most people never figure that out. Some people do, and they often become artists, musicians, dancers, jewelers, writers or some other form of aesthetic contributor — they just can’t help themselves. Yet the creative function is not really about art; it’s about existence. Plenty of cab drivers, hedge fund managers, house moms, crochet masters and printing press operators figure it out too. This month’s rare, magnificent total solar eclipse in Leo occurs on the line in your chart where your creative source meets your daily devotion to service, work and healing. The personal message of the eclipse is to make the connection between these two seemingly different aspects of life. It happens right in that sweet spot where inspiration meets action meets daily devotion. There’s something deeper here, as well. The healing source is the creative source. They are the same thing, applied in slightly different ways. To work this potent zone, whether you think of it as describing astrology or existence, takes a conscious decision. Once you do that, you will tap into a seemingly endless well of energy. Explore that for a while and you will discover, further, that you can direct ‘creative chaos’ in refined, specific and purposeful ways. This is all good practice for Saturn moving in your favor later in the year. Your level of responsibility will increase considerably, and you must bring all of your talent to bear on whatever you do. Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — There is, in your solar chart, a brittle line between your need for security and your desire for unpredictable experience. I say brittle because your idea of security is pretty bold; you tend to feel safe on the planet, and you possess a rare kind of confidence. Yet it’s easy to lose track of that, because another side of your nature is averse to taking risks. Part of this relates to your somewhat infamous tendency to overthink things, and to talk yourself out of what you want. So, in many ways, you’re like a Porsche being driven around a parking lot. You need to get yourself on the open road; and for that to happen, it will help if you lure yourself with visions of the great mountain ranges of Montana, the ancient forests of California, or sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Said another way, you don’t need to justify your desire for experience with a theory, or the need for a certain level of expertise, experience or freedom from other commitments. You don’t need an academic degree of certification. Rather, you must feel your curiosity burning like an itch that won’t go away. Feel your urgent need to change the world building tension like an earthquake that’s about to happen. Feel your desire for sex like something that would occur on a cool, moist forest floor rather than in a pristine bed. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Yours is the sign associated with verbal mastery. That’s partly a Mercury thing — the god of mind and alchemy rules your sign. It’s also because Leo covers the 3rd house of your chart, the one about communication themes. This is a bold, hot sign associated with your ability to speak and write. Yet a careful critique of Gemini will often reveal that you don’t usually go to your true intellectual depth. You are too often content with a basic analysis, or something that sounds good, and/or is true enough. The total solar eclipse later this month, which takes place in Leo, your 3rd solar house of thought and messages, is calling you to your full depth. Eclipses often accelerate processes; this one will slow down your mental metabolism and encourage you to be more reflective. You are being summoned to engage all of your mental gears and get to the bottom of things. At the same time, you must alternate that with a wide-angle approach, and see everything you know in the context of everything else you know. This applies to whatever you may be working on. There’s a special message about comprehending the impact that your family had on your intellectual development. You may still be trapped in their estimation of you, which is limited by their own intelligence and perception. It’s time to set yourself free. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — You are in the process of becoming a financial ninja. See if you can set aside all the mysticism associated with money, and the emotional baggage. Set aside the fact that it’s the only thing too many people seem to care about. Pause on the notion that people think money absolves all sin, solves all problems and grants only happiness. This is about the practical matter of ensuring that your life and your creative activities are properly funded. But there is something deeper. One of the most profound struggles of the human race, particularly here in the rather wealthy Western world, is the crisis of connecting one’s personal values, innate assets, and the ability to eat food, keep a dry roof over your head, and support your family. We simply assume it’s only vaguely possible that someone will be able to live on their talents; or, said another way, actually do what they came to the Earth to do. For you, the root of this is to respect your own gifts. That does not mean being proud, boastful or even ambitious. It does mean understanding that you possess something you came here to share. Your part in this begins in that respect, which comes as part of a conscious maturity process. To that, you would add connecting daily discipline to your sense of purpose. That’s not about hope; it’s about action. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“Thanks for reassuring this Leo, who is having a year ‘for the books’! You get to the core of things.”
— Barbara Peaslee, on a previous Leo reading

Dear Friend and Reader:

One day after the Sun entered your sign this past weekend, there was a special New Moon in Leo — special, because you get another one in a month. And that second Leo New Moon will be even more special: the highly anticipated Aug. 21 total solar eclipse (in between is a partial lunar eclipse in your ‘relationship sign’, Aquarius).

Planet Waves

Eclipses are unique and powerful pattern-shifting events.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Once again, one of the outstanding astrological events of our lifetimes occurs in your sign. That would be the Great American Eclipse of Aug. 21, 2017. There’s a precedent for this: the total solar eclipse of Aug. 11, 1999. Consider what you were doing that summer, and what you were doing for the next three or so years. When you think of 1999 as a ‘before and after’ moment, what do you get? You are now standing at the threshold of another such moment. What you’ve lived through the past several years is the ‘before’; the moment you’re in is like a dimensional gate; and the future is unwritten. Take the time and the care to point your life in the direction that you want to go. This need not take longer than a few moments, though deep meditation and grounded decisions usually require more investment of thought. Remove the no-longer-valid priorities from your agenda; decide what no longer serves you. Then, search your soul and remind yourself what you simply must do. Be exceedingly honest with yourself about this, and don’t be distracted by whether you think something is or is not possible. You might know what this agenda is without even thinking about it. Use the power of your mind and point your existence in that direction. Then, steady as she goes. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You rarely reveal your true power. It’s a mystery why; I think you’re afraid of getting in trouble. Yet you would benefit greatly from questioning and challenging the structure of authority that you’ve set up in your mind, and which you seem convinced reflects actual reality. Your fear of what might go wrong, were you to assert yourself, contains a deeper anxiety about challenging authority. Yet anything of any merit that happens in the world, anything that changes something, or that has the unmistakable vibration of the life force, is not about avoiding challenge or friction. To the contrary, anything that’s actually relevant in some way must break the mold of what came before it, and that’s the story of your life right now. The Aug. 21 total solar eclipse will encourage or even push you to let yourself out of your self-imposed container. The effects of this event will come on gradually over the next few months, with a concentration at the end of the year when Saturn, entering Capricorn, moves in your favor. Then it will be obvious that commitment moves providence and that fortune favors the bold. Yet till then, nobody is shackling you to your caution, or to your fear of rattling the surrogate mothers, fathers, ministers and school deans who populate the world. You are larger, braver and more intelligent than them all. Trust that. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — There are moments when your potential feels like pretty balloons floating in the air, and there are those times it feels as if you’re in four-wheel drive. You have traction now; you have ideas about what you want to do; and you have an unusually strong sense of who you are. Yet you may also feel locked into something that you don’t see a way out of — or you may live with this feeling silently, below the level of full awareness. So let’s start with that: in what ways are you stuck in a pattern, and in what ways does that prevent you from living the way you want, or doing what you want? It’s rare that people abandon what they are doing to pursue something else. It’s more often true that, step by step, we convert aspects of our lives to a new purpose. You might cut off cable TV so you have more time to practice music, cultivate a talent or learn a skill. You might clear out a room that’s under-utilized and devote it to a new purpose. You might spend less idle time with friends, and instead choose to associate with people who share a common purpose and commitment. In sum, you must make every moment, every hour and every day count for its full value. Time is your most precious resource. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Long ago, my father explained to me that there are basically two kinds of power: formal and informal. Formal power is the manager of a baseball team. Informal power is the most popular player, adored by the fans and the press. The laws of a country represent formal power; its customs are informal power. You are working with both kinds of influence at the moment, and it’s crucial that you distinguish the two — and that you know which to use in what situation. Most of the time, informal power is what runs the world. Custom trumps law almost every time. You may be out of step with these informal kinds of influences. For one thing, you’re too self-critical, needlessly so, and this interferes with the notion that people might like you enough to play on your team. Of course people tend to like you, and they tend to respect you innately; but it’s hard to take this in if you are in a nearly constant state of self-judgment. One thing that will help is if you catch yourself whenever you think that the past is the present. It may be, until you interrupt that pattern, and get yourself into this moment, and fully inhabit this time of your life. Your opinions, fears, judgments and hang-ups are all products of the past. Forget it! You can only be alive now. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — One of the most challenging aspects of maturity, success or bold achievement is clearing the psychological baggage of others out of the way. Most of the problems we deal with in life are not our own. They belong to our parents and other ancestors, and must be treated as such, if they are to be addressed efficiently. That, in turn, frees up the bandwidth to take care of your actual karma, and to fulfill your actual agenda. With the total solar eclipse later this month, you get an opportunity to purge your consciousness of some inherited problems, most likely ones imposed on you by your dominant parent (and potentially other persons who had power over you as a child). In order to take advantage of this, you must not be afraid of ‘betraying’ any of these people. You must be willing to stand apart. This is about nothing less than claiming your birthright and, in a sense, your destiny. There’s always a delicate transaction when authority and influence are seized from one generation by the next, in each individual life; and for you that time has come. Set yourself free from the fears of your parents and your grandparents. Cut the cords, cut the apron strings, let the dead be gone and commit to living your life on your terms. If this isn’t scary, you’re not doing it right. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — From the wisdom of traditional tantra, we know that spiritual growth isn’t real unless it incorporates and accepts sexual awareness and experience. We know that sexual experience verges on meaningless if it does not invest itself in existential awareness and love, which is the actual meaning of ‘spiritual’. You often struggle to claim yourself back from the sexual situations in which you become involved. Often, money gets mingled up in them, your sense of self-worth and identity gets invested, and it’s just too complicated. Fear of these scenarios prevents you from actually getting to know people, since typically these associations seem to be all or nothing. Yet you don’t commit to having three of someone’s children by smiling at them. A dinner invitation is not a marriage proposal. And you’re a whole person, never half of a relationship. A total eclipse in the angle of your chart that describes all of these issues will feel like a birth from one reality to the next. You may experience yourself passing through a narrow passageway, which may have the feeling of giving something up. Make the trip willingly. It will take some time for the dust to settle; by the time Saturn arrives in your sign later in the year, you will know that you are safely in a new reality and a new experience of your existence. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — It’s time to break the tension of your relationships. To this end, letting go of expectations will be helpful; it’s the source of much stress, and of difficulty getting close to others. Another source involves how you may perceive yourself as a ‘public person’ and a somewhat opposite experience of yourself as a private person. You seem much more rigid than you actually are, though it’s unclear why you don’t take a more relaxed attitude toward the world, and give yourself and everyone else space to be themselves. Then there’s the matter of commitment. Do you really think you can choose what you commit to and what you don’t? Or have you observed that there’s a larger pattern involved, and that your involvements select you just as much as you select them? The total solar eclipse of Aug. 21 is an invitation to be absolutely true to your relationships. It’s bidding you to have the utmost respect for the karma that you share with others. What you want to do is work that karma out and move on to better things, rather than get more deeply mired in it. Therefore, say what you need to say to people. Listen to what they say to you. Honor the bonds you share with them, and honor your need to be independent as well. Both are true at once and are equally valid. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Every relationship is a collaboration. That’s helpful, since relationships need a purpose, if they are to be happy. Almost any purpose will serve, though it must be sincere. In the coming seasons, people from your past are likely to re-enter your life. Sometimes this will be for the purpose of completion. Sometimes it will be for continuation. A simple exchange of thoughts may complete the conversation; sometimes more time and thought will be required. This will precede moving forward, which will be on entirely new terms. It’s essential that you see people from your past as they are today, rather than as they were in years before. Sometimes there will be a profound difference, and other times it will be subtle. As for the collaborative nature, you set the purpose mutually, based on a full palette of possibilities: your shared mission, assisting with one another’s missions, financial gain, sexual bonding or selfless service — to name a few. What this all implies is a wholly conscious approach to relating, rather than what usually happens on our planet. This kind of focused intention is, perhaps, uncomfortable to some people, and you may need to lead the way gently. One of the most important things you can size up, with everyone you meet or encounter from the past, is what their agenda is. What do they claim their purpose is, and what do they actually do? What about you? For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

The Fulcrum, the Venturi and the Cycle of Fire

Dear Friend and Reader:

We’re now in the final weeks before the total solar eclipse of Aug. 21, 2017. For those who are uncertain of whether astrology has any validity, this is a good time to pay attention. Eclipses are one of the very best laboratory-of-life ways to observe astrology. You would just need to associate what you notice with the eclipses.

“Eclipse” by Via Keller, the original Planet Waves artist.

A solar eclipse is an exact alignment of the Moon and the Sun, at the New Moon. Usually at the New Moon, the Moon will pass a little above or below the Sun, from our viewpoint on Earth. There is a shadow cast, but it extends into space, and we don’t see it. When a solar eclipse happens, the Moon’s shadow is cast on the Earth.

It may sound like superstition to “believe” that this might “mean” something, though I suggest going beyond both belief and meaning, and observing what’s actually happening. See if you notice the acceleration effect of an eclipse, even set amidst our light-speed world. Notice the sense of unusual pressure that people are not readily admitting to. Feel the sensation that change is imminent. Notice the strange events that are not easily explained.

Monday Morning Horoscope for July 24, 2017

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — People, especially younger ones, are systematically having their courage bred out of them. Older people tend to become more reserved and conservative because they think they have more to lose. Young ones have always provided a resource of willingness to try something new for its own sake. Sadly, that’s being injected with a kind of psychic Botox. Your astrology is calling you in the opposite direction: to embrace the unknown with yearning, to directly enter what’s unfamiliar, and to view your life as a creative experiment. This is not theoretical, but rather something you would do from day-to-day, even hour-to-hour, as a yoga of the mind. Be eager to do what you’ve never done. Travel back from someplace by a different route than how you got there. Contemplate how sex is the origin of all life.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — You may be feeling so much restless energy that it’s scaring you. Your charts are definitely sending you a message to stay grounded in whatever connects you to the Earth, and to your body. Though you may feel like getting out of the house a lot; or if activities call you out of the house, to connect with your home base every day. That might mean preparing one meal, doing some housework for the pleasure of it, or taking a bath. The idea is to make contact with the solid ground beneath your feet and in your soul. Be cautious about getting into any conflicts with relatives or if you’re in a shared living situation; make sure that you settle the matter of your psychic and physical space without being defensive. Your home is very, very important to your wellbeing right now.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — The essence of your learning path is to keep an open mind. Know when you don’t know, which is likely anytime you think you’re certain. Get into the habit of proving yourself wrong. Assume you know less than you know, even on subjects where you’re considered an expert, and cycle some of your energy into finding out more. That will keep your mind open to the possibilities and ensure that you don’t get stuck in a point of view, which would be all too easy right now. All certainty is potentially false; and ignorance is a synthetic product, bred entirely of the desire not to know, or not to admit the truth. You must stand boldly in between the two. Use what you know; be willing to be wrong; and make sure that all new information is subject to verification.

The astrology section of the Gemini birthday reading has been recorded, and the Tarot reading will follow soon. Order here to get instant access, whether for yourself or the Gemini you love.
Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Money is not the only measure of value. What’s far more meaningful is how you perceive your own worth, and how you go about earning the money you acquire. Are you investing your precious days in something that genuinely matters to you? Would you do what you do for no pay? These questions will help guide you to a more meaningful existence. Most people think nothing of investing their lives in activity they are doing only because they get paid. Of course, this is related to the belief that what really matters to you is not worth someone investing in. More often, though, people are disconnected from what really matters to them, which is a situation you must resolve, if it’s even vaguely true for you. Find that thing that you care about, and do it as much as you can.

Eclipses are unique and powerful pattern-shifting events.

Or, at least, they can be — especially if you can get clear on what you want, set your intentions, and then get the ball rolling in your desired direction.

Working with this kind of energy is one of Eric’s specialties.

And he’ll be giving you the benefit of his expertise in your 2017 Leo Birthday Readingsuitable for anyone with a Leo Sun, Leo rising or a Leo Moon.
Even better, Eric will look ahead to some of the other major astrology of the year, so you’ll be better able to develop whatever happens with this eclipse for months to come.

Whether you need clarity with your intimate relationships, career, self-esteem or identity, creativity, spiritual healing or family issues, you’ll find ideas, encouragement, new perspectives and reassurance in this reading.

“Your work has always offered me food for thought, options to consider and clarity when needed. Thank you very much for what you do and how you present it.”

— Victoria Bouet

I hope you’ll pre-order your 2017 Leo Birthday Reading soon, while it’s still available for the lowest price we’re offering: $33.

Eric will record the two 30-minute astrology segments first; and then a little later, you’ll receive your tarot reading for the year, using the vibrant Voyager Tarot by James Wanless. As these segments are completed, the price of the reading will increase.

Welcome to a year like no other, Leo. I hope you’ll be in touch to tell us what you learn over the next month or so.

Yours & truly,

Amanda Painter

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Sunday there was the first of two New Moons in your birth sign, both of which are extraordinary events, and are here to deliver a message. At this stage of your life, you have little choice but to stand in your power. This is not a state of mind or a mood; it’s not a thing you do. It’s a property of who you are, though perhaps the more accurate word is influence. You cannot control the world around you, and you cannot force anything to happen. But you can influence the flow of events, in ways large and small. The single most relevant thing you can do is to know what you want, and have some idea why you want it. Don’t make assumptions; check yourself, verify your ideas about life, and let curiosity be your guide.

Your 2017-18 Leo Birthday Reading by Eric is now available for pre-order. This is a seminal year for Leo Sun, rising and Moon, with two New Moons in your sign, the second one a powerful solar eclipse. Make this dynamic energy work for you — pre-order your reading today.
Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You may feel like you’re living your life for someone else, or are serving as a vehicle for their growth. That may be true, and it’s a meaningful role to play; others have done this for you many times. Yet it would help if you took a broader-minded look at your situation. You’re doing plenty else in the world, though on some level, it’s almost always true that one’s most important responsibilities involve serving others. Still, you seem to keep encountering a persistent mystery about your role, purpose or the meaning of your life. To answer this riddle only requires that you be a little more courageous, and a lot more honest with yourself. If you find yourself being passive or ambivalent, turn up your courage and honesty. You don’t impress anyone by being meek and mild, and you don’t help yourself, either.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — It’s time to step into a more public role, though the chances are that without doing much, circumstances will call you there. Your challenge will be minimizing conflict and controversy, and knowing how to deal with it when it happens. First, I suggest you only be as public as you need to be, and no more. This is not the time for notoriety or influence purely for fun. Everything you say and do must be connected to a purpose, and applied with a minimalist philosophy guiding you. You’re working with more mojo than you may think, and at the same time, it will be easy to get caught in the rather nasty trap of glamour. The safe and practical way to do this will be to take a conservative approach, using the right tools at the right time.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Power for its own sake is always toxic, both to you and to others. With the Sun, the Moon, Mars and other planets moving across the fame and recognition angle of your chart, the thing you must focus on is accountability. The world is not encouraging this right now. It seems every day like we’re in the “get away with whatever you can” Olympics. If you play that way, it will come back to bite you so fast you won’t know what got you. Therefore, use your power judiciously, and stay close to the purpose of whatever system you’re influencing. You must proceed with dignity at all times, even if that means cramping your usual style. It’s not enough to be ethical; you must have the appearance of being so. It’s not enough to be honest. You must be willingly vulnerable as well.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Over the weekend, the Sun and the Moon entered your fellow fire sign Leo, which is stoking up your confidence and your sense of purpose. As a Sagittarius, you can handle this better than most. Yet, because Saturn has been in your sign for so long, you may be eager to push the edges of your newfound freedom. Ease back on your restlessness and carefully consider your possibilities. Understand that your potential can describe your future, if you take yourself seriously enough to recognize that you do, indeed, grow. You don’t need to impress anyone; you don’t need their permission; you do need to trust yourself. When travelers who had come thousands of miles reached the Delphic Oracle in the ancient days of Greece, they were met with the message: Know Thyself. Take that as your mantra.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Sunday’s Leo New Moon happened in the angle of your chart associated with deep sexual and emotional bonding — and financial legacies, inheritances and marriage. You must treat each of these subjects separately, rather than allowing them all to merge into one thing. You will have more influence over your own life if you see each of the issues for what they are. Make no mistake, there are others who would prefer if you remained confused or, at least, so swept up in your own passion that you don’t bother understanding what’s really happening. You can have great fun right now, and make considerable progress in the most meaningful areas of your life; though the cost of that will be vigilance, self-awareness and maintaining clear agreements with the people around you — especially those you find most frightening.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — There are some song lyrics I love, which come out of the Grateful Dead camp: “Stake my future on a hell of a past / looks like tomorrow is comin’ on fast.” That about sums up your life at the moment, and this can be a beautiful thing. Change is upon you, and it’s likely to enter your experience through other people. Therefore, you must constantly distinguish between what they want and what you want. It will be too easy to get vacuumed into the desires of others without much thought on your part, and once that happens, it’ll be difficult to get out of those situations. Therefore, know your own desires, and make sure they’re a match for any circumstances you find yourself in. Step back or step forward according to what’s appropriate, making a conscious choice one way or the other.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — This may be one of the most productive months of your recent life, as long as you pace yourself. It would be easy to burn yourself out on activity and even on success; you will need to moderate your level of energy output, and prioritize your tasks. Taking proper care of yourself is a top priority. If you’ve committed to something there’s no turning back on, embrace that fact, then figure out a way to make it work for you. Remember what you’ve learned about leadership the past few years, and the most effective ways to take charge of your own life. You have plenty of help available, though you’ll need to distinguish between situations when the presence of others makes your life easier and when it’s more challenging. And know that you have far more control over timing than you may realize.
