Monday Morning Horoscope for Jan. 8, 2018

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — It’s time to set your own definition of success, and start working for it right now. The chances are, though, that you’ve already made considerable progress, and what you now need to do is to refine your methods, eliminate any goals that you don’t intend to pursue, and keep your focus. A matter of partnership is crucial; while the person may or may not be a sexual partner, there must be chemistry between you and whomever you work with — chemistry that is cellular, hormonal and pheromonal. By that I mean simpatico and sublime, where you work for the same goal in an intuitive way. In the absence of that, pursue your interests with gusto and see who shows up, wanting to play and participate, for its own sake, and for your sake. You’re working on something that can change the world in some way — if not the big, wide world, then the cosmos of whatever field you’re involved with. You’re onto something real.

“One gift you get from Pluto in Capricorn is the ability to align your goals with the rapidly changing conditions of the world. You are in an excellent position to take advantage of the shifting, quaking and shaking state of society. This of course requires being present and not being afraid when things get really real. You can and must look for the opportunities presented by change.”

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — David Byrne, one of the mighty ones born under your sign, penned the lines, “Years ago who would believe it’s true? / Goes to show what a little faith can do.” The core lesson of this time in your life is having faith in yourself. Nobody would suspect you otherwise, though you know the truth of the matter. This goes deeper than self-confidence, to the core essence of your purpose for living. One key to this is to connect with your purpose in everything that you do. Purpose goes beyond any one activity, idea, or belief. You possess your core purpose at all times, in all places and with all people. That is useful: you can take it with you everywhere you go, and put it to work no matter what you do. If nothing special is ringing a bell, consider that this is about the life of your soul. Soul is not a thing; it’s a verb. It’s a process by which you integrate the spiritual essence of your being into the rest of your being. Do what feels right, and participate fully in your own existence.

“If you ever feel lost or misguided, come back to purpose, which you will know when you feel it. Experiment all you need to. The more you experiment with bringing purpose and meaning to the surface of your consciousness, and consider them carefully, the more strength you will have; the more persistence; and more motivation and energy.”

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — You may feel like there’s so much going on around you, it’s impossible to keep track of it, much less exert any control. That’s one side of the story. The other side of the story is to remember that you’re bigger than all of it combined: you are more than the sum total of all the separate elements of your life, or any one of them. Matters of finance and business partnership are a top priority, though you can afford to stand back a little, and propose the ideas that you want to manifest. You can afford to observe, and intervene right when you think you need to. However, the one thing you must do is to be observant. You really have to pay attention to the details and to the positions of others, which means conversing with them throughout whatever process is going on. Your ability to shape the outcome is manifested not through power but through influence, which means ideas, a vision, and seeing the scenario from the widest, and highest, possible viewpoint.

“The dualism of Gemini is well known; you can live in a world of relative truth, which might work for you — though consider how it works for those you influence. Pisces is the place in the zodiac where opposites are integrated and resolved, and for you this happens through your most meaningful work.”

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — This week’s astonishing astrology — an alignment of Venus, the Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Pluto — is all over the sex and relationship houses in your solar chart. You get a blend of teenage passion with the intensity of a commitment that is really working. This is fun and somewhat wild astrology, though it’s also deep, and it could be daunting. However, you can summon your courage, as if you’re on a diving board and you really want to jump into the water headfirst, and you know the water is deep enough, and you know you can dive, and you can swim, and it’s just a little much — and then you’re happy you did it because you really needed to. The thing you want to avoid is people you have actual conflict with: bad vibes, bad karma, a negative history or any need to deceive anyone. Those are exactly, precisely the people you don’t want to be involved with.

“Living in peace with your desire is one commitment to make to yourself. As you do this, it will have an influence on your relationships. This is to say, as you raise your energy and commit to being real with what you want, others will take notice. Ultimately the result will be living in your body rather than in your head.”

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — You are done planning and pondering; it’s time to start doing, by which I mean doing what you know you want and need to do. You have leverage right now, which will be helpful, though you don’t need much. Lean into the challenges you are facing just a little and you’ll see how much power the weight of your mind and your intentions carries. Efficiency is essential, which means placing your emphasis on ideas; and where labor is involved, using the concept of leverage. Be certain to balance your creative efforts with proper rest, recreation and nutrition. You don’t need to become a health guru; you only need to take care of yourself sufficiently well to stay in balance, and keep your stress level down. Where your work seems to conflict with relationships, make sure you consider both sides of the equation. What is the actual source of the seeming conflict?

“If you consider yourself to be at the center of your social circle, or an integral part of your community, the changes you make in your own life constitute a form of leadership for the people around you. You can count on the fact that the people who look up to you are waiting for your initiative.”

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You must be naughty if you want to do the right thing. That means that in order to truly serve your happiness and your growth (personal, creative or whatever), you will need to break some rules, violate some taboos and do some things you think people will disapprove of. Negative emotions such as guilt, embarrassment, fear, or shame can serve as an invitation. Rather than assume they point to the ‘wrong thing’, try the assumption that they point the way to what will serve you the best. I’m not making this up, by the way — this is very old wisdom, though not exactly well understood or overplayed these days. Taboo is a veil over the truth; it’s a scrim thrown over your creativity; and it’s a social control device that serves no purpose in your life. You have a lot of mojo running right now. You don’t need any holy types of people, or holy voices in your mind, stopping your fun.

“The universe is not usually embraced all at once, nor is your place in the universe. Rather, you engage with it in momentary interactions, and you make it with everything you make, everyone you speak to, everyone and everything you touch. Imagine that in each of those contacts, you weave existence, and give life to the world.”

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — This week you’re likely to discover just how much you have, or don’t have, in common with family members or those you share your household with. You are growing in your own direction, and you need to do your own thing. One of the overarching themes of a long phase of your life is cultivating bona fide emotional independence, or you could say, getting a life. It’s easy to go from one type of family system of control to another. It’s easy to transform being trapped in one kind of environment to being stuck in another. Your goal now is to shift that whole paradigm and set yourself free — free enough to make decisions without the meekest thought of needing to ask permission. Nobody should be walking into your private space without knocking, or anything of the kind. Borrowing from the nearly forgotten author Virginia Woolf, you need a room of your own.

“Trust yourself, and trust your body, if you embody what I call the thresholder. The thresholder is one whose role is to bring others to the edge. You can only take them to the edge; they must cross over themselves. Others can only take you to the edge; you must cross over it yourself, and see who welcomes you on the other side of the journey.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Have you considered that fear stops you from doing what you want to do? I know that as a Scorpio, you’re supposed to be the first in line to walk on hot coals, the first out of the airplane door on the skydiving trip, or to suggest that the dentist hold the Novocain. But what’s your relationship to fear, really? Do you say what you need to say? Do you feel what you need to feel? Do you admit what you actually know? You’re well past the point of being able to hide who you are, and at the moment, you’ve probably figured out there’s no point trying. Now you might direct your efforts into the other direction: do exactly what might intimidate you. Say what you want to say, not what you think people want to hear. More than anything, admit what you know, and put your knowledge to work for your own benefit. You will have many such opportunities this week.

“Make some peace with what you really feel beneath the surface tension of appearances. The reason that staying superficial is so popular is because it negates feeling. Yet every facet of your astrology is saying that it’s essential to go deep — and that depth is an essential element in feeling good about who you are, and discovering who you are.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Recently a Sagittarius friend said she was interested in having a source of “passive income.” That’s the kind where the checks allegedly come rolling in like interest accrued on a trust fund. This, ostensibly, would be used to support her creative interests. It took me a couple of weeks pondering to see the problem with this theory. When you’re at your best, there’s nothing passive about you. You need passionate income. You need to be well paid for what you love to do, and/or what you do the very best (there’s a relationship between them; if not, it would be wise to develop one). You will succeed financially to the degree you’re wholly engaged with your values and your priorities. Rather than farm out the income aspect of work, it’s essential that you marry it to the creative aspect, generating a reaction that, once it gets going, is difficult to stop.

“You might think of Saturn as the one missing and necessary ingredient in Sagittarius. It’s not an easy mix. It is, however, a imperative one, if you want to get anything done; if you want to claim your full personhood. To live free means to take up responsibility for your destiny.”

Capricorn Audio Birthday Reading is Ready!

Dear Friend and Reader:

Last week, I recorded your Capricorn birthday reading. It’s about 70 minutes in length, in two sessions. This is your birthday audio — an entirely different reading from The Art of Becoming, which will be ready in January.

You are living in extraordinary times, as a Capricorn or Cap rising. There’s been nothing quite like this in your sign since the early 1990s, when the Uranus-Neptune connection passed through town. That was a while ago — and what you’re now working with is just as significant.

Planet Waves

At the moment, the Sun, Venus, Saturn and Pluto are in your sign, which is building to a series of major events that peak in 2020. That may seem like a long way off, though time marches on. The presence of Saturn, the ruling planet of Capricorn, is a reminder to tend to your growth, shore up your foundations, and take your place in the world.

Saturn in your sign is helping ground you in your real priorities.

In this reading, I focus on several key points of development, though none is as important as your relationship to your family, and your family history. For all you want to do in life, all the ways you want to succeed, and solidify your process of self-actualization: the family connection is essential.

This relates directly to your most intimate partnerships, because they’re based on an emotional foundation that was laid in childhood. I provide specific information about how to work with these elements, and how to engage in productive self-therapy (it’s not always so useful, but it can be).

Your reading includes access to last year’s recording, plus your 2017 written reading (from The Book of Your Life), and a tarot reading that will arrive in about a month (maybe more, maybe less).

You can get instant access when you order the reading here for just $44. We will increase the price further when the Tarot section is published.

This reading is also included with the Backstage Pass. If you’re not a BSP member, you can upgrade and extend your current subscription, and the Capricorn reading will be included.

Thank you for being a Planet Waves customer.

With love,

eric

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Your sign is somewhat famous for a priggish attitude toward sex. That’s funny, since you’re probably one of the more sexual people you know, even if you veil that with proper attire and an insistence on seeming prim, at nearly any cost (including resisting fun that might appear in any way untoward, or revealing your true desire). It’s time to throw that approach and all the theories that support it into a bonfire. It’s time to ask yourself who you were trying to impress, and then decide that you don’t care. More than that, it’s essential you recognize the ways in which people blame others for their own impulse to restrain themselves with morality; i.e., what would mother think? If you really want to go there, though, ask yourself that very question. If she had a porthole into your life, she might be shocked for a moment, and then have a very, very different reaction — as will you.

“The thing is, your future self is not as easy to perceive as your past self. Every transit I’ve described adds up to you developing in ways that you simply cannot predict, and which therefore amount to a daunting unknown. In order to face who you are becoming, you must face that unknown.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Are you experiencing fear, or desire? Something is definitely moving within you. You seem ready to release yourself from an old emotional bond of some kind, as if you discovered some beautiful aspect of yourself trapped in a dusty old cellar. What is that part of you, what’s this cellar, and who put you there? This is old material; you may be reversing something that was done to an ancestor many generations ago. This may have been repeated through the years, and inflicted directly on you — or not. Whatever the case, you’re ready to set something free from deep in that realm known as the unconscious. Step one in doing so is to make it conscious — to fully awaken to whatever this feeling, need, fear or desire is. The second is to give yourself a push, in the direction where you feel the most energy is contained. You need access to that energy, and to get it, you must go to it: it won’t just come to you.

“The fantasy is simple; you’re in control. The reality is more complex; feelings are involved. I recommend trying anything that you’re bringing out of fantasy at least three times before you make up your mind. Gradually work your way into it. Build your courage. Find the right people and persist in your experiment. Let curiosity drive you.”

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — If you’ve wanted to go public with something, this could be the week. There’s some genuine harmony between what you are thinking and feeling, and what has suddenly become publicly acceptable. What could this be about? The range of possibilities spans from sharing something with your friends that you’ve long kept secret (a kind of coming out) to revealing a project you’ve been working on for years. It might be a statement you need to make, something you’ve written that you want to share, or artwork nobody has seen. This could be anything that is currently something in your personal world that wants to find a home in some wider community — including you announcing your existence in some way. So, consider the possibilities. Don’t worry if what you do, or who you are, is good enough. Take the chance and let yourself be known, seen and recognized.

“There really is no mission, career or vocation: there is you, becoming who you are. I feel like I keep saying this, though this notion keeps coming up in your astrology. You’re not really changing; rather, your inner essence is emerging in a way that is both unstoppable and undeniable. And this you can express as mission.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Monday Morning Horoscope for Jan. 1, 2018

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Over the past month, a series of planets moving into your career and success angle describes you waking up to your ambitions. Tomorrow’s Full Moon in the domestic angle of your chart is reminding you to pace yourself, and not push yourself so hard. Rather, slow, steady progress is what will work the best for you. This also means having an actual home life. You may do this; it’s certainly one of your innate personality features, to center your life around your home. However, as work commitments pick up, you may forget to do this. If you feel yourself going out of balance, the place to restore that balance is your kitchen or bathtub. So take the time to make these places extra appealing, and from the first day of 2018, make sure your life is structured in such a way that points you toward home on a regular basis. While you’re at it, make sure your bedroom is the perfect pleasure salon.

“The person you thought you were five years ago, one year ago, even yesterday, is not quite the same person you are today, potentially in some profound ways. To the extent that this is shaking up your consciousness and that of the people around you, you simply must develop confidence in yourself.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Everyone must have a code that they live by. With my abundant knowledge of those born under the sign Taurus, I would remind you to keep your code flexible, and subject to new discoveries. I’ll give you two examples. Attorneys talk about the letter of the law, and the spirit of the law. One is based on a strict reading, and the other is based on the purpose a law is supposed to serve. Another example is how your passport says you’re responsible for following both laws and customs in the countries you visit, which any experienced traveler will tell you is right on point. Some would even say that customs are more important than laws, since that’s what people really care about. This is a reminder to hang loose. You’re a person who really cares about your integrity. You actually grapple with matters of right and wrong; this is part of your psychic foundation. So, easy does it.

“If Taureans are competitive, it’s primarily with themselves. You never want to do anything worse than you did it last time. Your next effort has to be better. When this is not driving you a little nuts, it can really work for you; and it definitely works for those who benefit from your devoted efforts.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — If nothing else this year, you will come to terms with any fears of commitment that you may have. There has been an interesting evolution in your astrology lately, which represents a significant shift from the past nine years. You’ve had a way of associating commitment with people holding power over you. In many instances, this has turned out to be true, though the deeper question involves the ways in which you give away your power. Now that Saturn, the Sun and other planets have moved into Capricorn, you can see commitment as a way to claim your power, and to use it consciously. You will need to monitor each and every transaction in your life, and notice how you handle negotiations of any kind. Do you read the contracts you sign? Do you have a rule against committing to anything you’re not sure you can do? And what about holding others to their promises to you? As you focus on these topics, the tables will gradually turn.

“Like an aviator or a sailor or both at once, you must study the weather, within you and around you, and have many skills and tools for coexisting with it. You harness your energy from change itself. Knowing yourself is not a matter of having a fixed concept, but rather an honest and ongoing relationship with who you are.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — It’s amazing how much can change in how little time. The sudden influx of many planets into Capricorn, your opposite sign, does two things, mainly. One is that it shifts the emphasis from Sagittarius, which is your work-related zone, and which was (to put it mildly) in a state of high pressure going back years. You may not have any less responsibility on your plate, though you’ll feel differently about it: better able to organize yourself, and feeling less like you must do everything at once. The second is that Saturn and other planets are now in your relationship house. This might feel like a missing piece showing up in your personal life. Saturn has a way of completing Capricorn, and will provide some solid substance into your social environment. Notably, from classical astrology, the association between Saturn and Capricorn is the strongest when it’s dark out. So get your work done and, as the old song goes, “Bring on the night.”

“Whatever you are doing, the essential spirit of your chart is that you define yourself. You set your mission; you establish your reputation; you are the master of the experiment. If you want to accomplish anything beyond the routine level of success, that also entails the highest level of self-responsibility and inner authority.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Everything in your chart points back to taking care of yourself. This has three components. The first and most important is emotional. At your best, you’re in contact with your feelings, and you respond to what your body is telling you. Second is making sure that you follow health regimens and medication schedules, and do all the things you need to do in order to stay healthy. Finally, there’s the matter of keeping your work in balance. Work is therapy for many Leos. It’s a way that you connect with your purpose, stay productive and do your part to hold the world together. Yet your chart now indicates that you both need and have help doing this. Don’t take everything on all by yourself. Let there be a discussion of what really needs to happen and how you’re going to work with others to get it done. Obviously you’re not the type to shirk responsibility or sacrifice quality. So there has to be another way, and that way is collaboration.

“You are now in a moment where you get to review, rethink and recreate just about anything you want. This may involve any facet of your life. You have the opportunity to work from the roots of your existence upward, and outward. For now, stay close to the ground and work from your core reality.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Virgo may be the most risk-averse sign. You might have been the type of kid who read the inside of the chocolate box so you knew which one you were biting into, and could select your favorite in advance. Your chart now describes you not just wanting to taste every last piece of chocolate, and not just wanting to eat them all, but also suddenly having the mad, wild passion to be a chocolatier. You want to know how it’s done — and do it yourself. That would make a fantastic way to orient your life: hand-made, homemade, the old way, as traditional as possible. You might try things like: if you’re going to make your own corn muffins, try grinding the cornmeal yourself. It’s easy to make your own yogurt, kombucha, bread and many things we take for granted. For you, this is not about being cool and artisanal. It’s about getting down to the basics of what it takes to live. It’s about making sure that you get what you pay for, and it’s truly all your own.

“Let everything point you back to you, as the focal point of your existence. This will enhance your capacity for relationships rather than diminish it. The more solidly you are present for yourself, the more solid you can be for others. But that’s really beside the point; focusing your intimacy with yourself is its own reward.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You may feel like the Master of Ceremonies for the holiday, though do your bit and then get off the stage. You have more important matters to tend to, mostly involving family and household. Your leadership is needed, and it turns out you’re the one person many people with different opinions and viewpoints have in common as someone they respect. This is something meaningful to remember about yourself, and why you need, at least, to maintain the appearance of objectivity. There are relatively few people in the world who are trusted by those who disagree on major points of discussion, and you have that particular asset. So, you must always present yourself as objective, which means willing to hear people out, and then do your best to evaluate all situations equitably. However, indecision is not an option; you must always seek, and find, a compromise that works for everyone — if you remember that there’s such a thing as the right thing.

“You may have been looking to the people you relate to directly — that is, partners of various kinds — for answers about the changes you’re going through. The deeper truth is that something inside you is evolving and growing, and changes to your partnerships are a kind of secondary effect. The sum total is that your circumstances are conspiring for you to be highly self-reliant.”

23-Nov. 22) — You may be feeling everything all at once, but you cannot say everything all at once. That may be complicated, because you also have a lot to say. You might start by shifting your speech to all that is friendly and loving. Emphasize the positive in everything. It’s easy to be a critic, and more challenging to see the one genuinely impressive thing about whatever anyone is doing. This same attitude will shine its light back onto you, as you notice what you’re doing right rather than what’s not going so well. You may feel it’s insincere to focus the discussion on the beautiful element of what otherwise might be lacking, though there’s a philosophical issue underneath that: in making improvements in anything, do you fix what’s wrong, or develop what works? There’s more to this question than is obvious. An extended real-time experiment is in order. Anyway, no matter how much one fixes or eliminates what’s wrong, that does not create a positive. Also, humans proceed most successfully on the basis of motivation.

“The essence of this message is that you must express your true self in every facet of your being, particularly in the work that you do. The tangible contribution you make to your community and the larger society is your single most dependable way to develop yourself, and to cultivate respect for yourself, and these angles of your chart are coming under strong, creative aspects this year.”

22-Dec. 22) — If you’re concerned that you might take things too far, go out of control, or lose your cool, you can test that out and push your limits — on every topic but one. That one thing would be alcohol, or any seriously mind-bending substance. This “weather advisory” will be in effect for months. It’s saying, essentially, err on the side of caution. That doesn’t mean go straight-edge; it means use your common sense. Respect the idea of moderation, and keep tomorrow in mind. You’re still early in a phase of your life where some heavy constraints have finally been lifted. You’re now off-leash, free-roaming and unregulated, except by yourself. So you need to dial the responsibility piece up by just a little, and make sure your actions are in accord with your values. Check that your values, in turn, are flexible enough to adapt to any new situation. The best place to do any potentially risky or adventurous experimentation is safely behind your front door.

“You will thrive if you maintain a spirit of exploration and play in the work that you do. You might explore the idea that no matter what you do, you’re doing the same thing: expressing your energy and love. If you discover that you don’t feel so energetic or so loving, that’s the time to consider why you’re doing it. However, remember, many facets of your current astrology call for patience.”

Capricorn Audio Birthday Reading is Ready!

Dear Friend and Reader:

Friday, I recorded your Capricorn birthday reading.

Saturn in your sign is helping to ground you in your real priorities.

22-Jan. 20) — Stop yourself every time you notice yourself saying, “But what would my [mother/father/family] think?” This may be subtle; it may be below the level of tangible inner dialog, though the message will still come through. It might relate to any aspect of your personality from work-related choices to the fun you want to have to your most intimate relationships. One point of growth you’re experiencing is your desire to open up your sexual horizons, right when doing so might encounter the nagging voices of authority figures from the past. This could be such a seemingly natural part of your psychic makeup that you’ve just learned how to live with them. But now there’s a showdown: how long are you going to let yourself be caught in the spider web of taboo, especially if you know that web (and the spider) is in your own mind? On our planet, anyway, there’s no approach to self-actualization that does not involve fully claiming, owning and setting your own standards around sexuality. And having your own rules usually means breaking everyone else’s.

“One thing to remember is that your integrity is not linked to your being unchanging. In fact, your integrity is about your ability to change in helpful ways, and not to resist what you need the most. As well, you must be honest with yourself and with others about your uncertainty. It’s all too tempting, in times of profound change, to attempt to cling to some form of fundamentalism or false security.”

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — One of the great themes of this era in your life is noticing the ways in which what seem to be your own choices, life patterns and personality traits are really a response to someone else’s needs and desires. Your chart describes you in a state of questioning and releasing those patterns, only to be taken deeper, so you can investigate their source. There’s no reason why, today, you should be walking around worrying about the same things that troubled your ancestors two or three generations back. There’s no actual reason why you should be stuck in their hang-ups, their political views, and their turf wars over what is true and what is not. If you are seeking independence, foster that first as your ability to see, and then question, the influence of the past on the present. Life is not about living up to anyone’s expectations, or expecting the world to live up to yours. It’s about something a lot better.

“If you find some material you must confront, summon the might of Pluto to help you work through the details. When you discover that you’re carrying around material from one or more of your ancestors, notice what it is, and offer it back to them. One thing you have going for you now is a rather hot spiritual fire burning. This is an excellent opportunity to burn off karma.”

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — On New Year’s Day, there’s a Full Moon in your fellow water sign, Cancer. This is a reminder, valid through the year, to emphasize having a good time. You have invested plenty of energy into your work, reputation and career, which seemed to reach a frenzy in the second half of 2017. I’m not suggesting that you slack off, but rather set yourself into cruise mode rather than climbing mode, and devote some of the excess energy to the pleasures of living. You are a Pisces. Pleasure-seeking is a form of spirituality to you, perhaps the most important one. There are plenty of influences guiding you to be pure and wholesome, to maintain a good image and to be grounded. Those need to be counteracted by your conscious choice to have fun. In this project, discipline will come in handy. Work before play is a useful ethic, as long as you remember to do both every day.

“When you look at these years in retrospect, they will clearly be a ‘before and after’ time. There are likely to be focal points of that transition; you may have experienced many ‘befores’ and ‘afters’, which add up to nothing less than a complete transformation in the form of embodying your own existence. This has taken many shapes, and in truth it’s a process that, once ignited, keeps on going.”

Daily News Short Annual Horoscope for 2018

Daily News Short Annual Horoscope for 2018, #1182 | By Eric Francis Coppolino
Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Most people would rather lose themselves than find themselves, though you don’t have that seeming luxury. Yet with Chiron entering your sign this year (which last happened in 1968), you’ll find that self-discovery makes you bold, and that self-awareness is the first remedy in your quest to heal all that may ail you. Society is going through a mass-scale identity crisis, and you will run counter to that trend. Your best discoveries will come through the work that you do, and the success that you aspire to. There are times when your professional activities are the most spiritually meaningful aspect of life, and this is one of them. Let your work be driven by passion; never complain, only strive to do what you do in the most beautiful way you can. As in your relationships, you don’t need some abstract notion of connecting or oneness; reach for the heat and light of deep emotional and erotic sharing, knowing it’s your most direct path to enlightenment. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“One’s relationship to change is the underlying reality that determines how one handles transits. This relationship counts for a lot now, and you would be wise to bring it to full awareness. What you’re currently experiencing is the culmination of six years of nonstop and ever-increasing energy. All of that has been excellent preparation. Now, you’re experiencing the actual threshold, the invocation of your new life.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Of all the signs, yours may be the one that most prefers things stay the way they are for as long as possible. Yet with revolutionary Uranus entering your sign this year, you will experience the desire to change in ways you might have never expected. You will feel this first as a surge of energy, followed by the sense that there’s much more to life than you imagined. The first place this starts to take up residence is in your intimate relationships. Next is a more tangible sense that, no matter how old you are, you have a future that’s worth building, reaching for and aspiring to. Yet once Uranus is in your sign (which starts right around your birthday) you will want to exceed all limits, and become a master of self-reinvention. Contrast that with your previous mastery of self-preservation and a gift for stability that comes in handy on our planet. With the world in a state of constant upheaval, your ability to transform yourself will be a rare and precious gift. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“You possess actual creativity, actual devotion and a strong tendency to be ethical. If you don’t let fear contaminate your mind, you will be able to connect these things in the form of your true vocation. If you are involved in what you consider to be your true vocation, you will have opportunities to go deeper and to bring in something that has the power to change you and change the world around you. That’s the mark of truth: it’s alive, it’s active, it’s provocative, and it compels you to establish an ongoing relationship with it.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Your relationships have been something of a whirlwind the past few years; and you’ll be happy to hear that in the coming seasons, you’ll be encountering others not in the air but on solid ground. Most of the difference will come from your newfound desire to commit yourself, whether in business or personal contexts. The key will be engaging with the right people, for the right reasons. Consider following a simple life policy: never make a promise that you’re not fully prepared to keep, which means both willing and able. With that as your guide, you may invest yourself in situations, confident in your identity. When you lose your sense of center, that’s when to take a step back, and spend some time alone. Your planets are describing the potential of having a stable person somewhere in your life, someone perhaps just a little older than you, whom you will recognize by their wisdom. For now, the purpose of your relationships is getting to know yourself. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“The two most significant aspects of life — love, and work — are coming in at full strength at the moment. You’re in a moment unlike any other you’ve lived through, at least speaking from the viewpoint of your astrology. It’s all so much that you might not be so thrilled; you may not see the opportunities in the wild mash-up of factors that are influencing your life. To begin with, I am here to remind you that you’re larger than it all.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Yours is the sign associated with cozy homes, good food and families. On a closer look, though, your knack for navigating the complex and competitive world of business is one of your strongest suits. So, too, is your ability to find yourself through the work that you do. These factors are being called forth from your character now, and will be for some time to come. Saturn now moving through your opposite sign Capricorn is an invitation to take your goals and aspirations seriously, and to clear out of the way anything that does not support your chosen purpose. That means engaging in relationships only with people who help create a supportive environment, and those who appreciate the positive influence you have on their life. (This mutuality must infuse every relationship you have, whether personal or professional.) It’s time to focus your efforts on what enhances who you are rather than in any way diminishes you. What for others might merely be “making a living” is for you more about creating yourself. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“You are the kind of person who must become your intentions and give everything all you’ve got. You feel better when you do this, even if you’re having to stretch a little. Being half-hearted does not suit you. You are a whole-hearted person, you want to feel that fully, and you want to be appreciated for what you do. This is the essence of self-esteem and it’s currently one of the most basic elements of your astrology.”

23) — Your astrology is calling on you to create a sense of order and organization in your life. Your creative energy has been all over the place, which has led to some interesting experiments; though now it’s time to be more focused. This includes your personal projects and what you consider your professional work. A little discipline will go a long way. You will find it easier to adopt a more structured schedule and physical work environment, if you make just a little effort. And any movement toward health, fitness or wellbeing needs structure as well. Beginning with food would be a wise point of orientation; walk around all day reminding yourself “you are what you eat,” and that fast-food taco might not seem so appealing. The process of elimination is your best friend: notice what does not serve your best interests, and then subtract it. Once you have cleared away what does not work, it’ll be a lot easier to see what does. Not only that; you’ll feel better, and have more time and more space to maneuver. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“The more you take a proactive and creative role, the less it will feel like changes are happening to you and the more it will feel like you are working with the incoming forces to create the change that you want. Therefore, pay close attention to just what that is: know what you want to change. I suggest you work with two lists: what you want to resolve or eliminate, and what you want to create. Both will happen as part of the same process.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — There’s a little child in you who wants to come out and play. Yet that means serious play, the kind that’s meaningful, and which you lose yourself in. It might involve your profession or vocation, but is more likely something personal that exceeds the relevance of a hobby. Your astrology describes you making something, such that there’s a tangible, useful result when you’re done. This is about passion for what you love. In a similar way, your romantic relationships need a job. It’s nice to think that people can get along without a core purpose that unites them, though that’s not usually the case. An example might be anything from raising children to building a business to creating a life that suits your mutual pleasures or interests. Whatever it might be, your connection to a conscious, well-expressed mission will both ground you and help open doors. In practical terms, if you’re dating, look for people who would prefer to attend a talk or go to a museum rather than some form of idle entertainment. We all need diversions, though those are easily enough found. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“You could say that apart from all the psychological concepts attached to self-esteem, the experience you’re looking for is feeling good about who you are. This is a feeling, not a concept. Rather than strive for the feeling, the thing to do is give yourself the experiences that you want; the experiences that will enrich you and help you develop into your personhood. To feel good about yourself, it’s vital that you know how to express who you are, and what you feel.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — For many moons, one of your most important personal growth projects has been emotional independence. This applies to your family and to any other aspect of life where your household or living situation is involved. Pursuing this objective has at times been messy. Perhaps you sent some mixed signals about needing to be free and also needing human contact — though in fact both are true, and they don’t contradict. This year begins a process of tidying up your boundaries. Start with something simple, like making sure all your doorknobs work; and if a lot of housemates have passed through, change your lock. Then clean some closets. Next, evaluate whether you have a space where you can actually enjoy some privacy any time you need it. For as hard as you work, you should have at least that much. Then set some guidelines for how you handle your family. They are not your masters, nor your judge, jury or guidance counselor. Step by step, day by day, build the emotional life that works for you. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“Your workplace must be not just habitable but truly supportive. You simply must like the place where you work, or you risk your mental and emotional health. Others can get by with jobs they hate, or substandard working environments; you cannot. Therefore, invest the time and energy that you need to have a place of work that supports your creativity, your health and your wellbeing.”

23-Nov. 22) — Jupiter in your sign is magnifying certain aspects of your life, like living in a house with gigantic furniture, or where your innermost thoughts appear projected onto your living room wall. You’re seeing everything that you’re made of, and you’re also seeing certain missing elements. Cutting to the chase, the central question of your life is: what do you want? Don’t be content with stock answers (happiness, a relationship, winning Lotto). What do you actually want, as relates to your stated purpose for living? Have you even worked that one out? It matters. Events of this year will draw the distinction between thinking you know, and actually knowing. You must go beyond appearances, and get to the heart of the matter. That will involve rinsing off or washing out the programming of the last 100,000 advertisements you were exposed to (all designed to tell you what you supposedly need or desire). You must also get yourself beyond any care you have about what people may think about you — and that will take courage. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“You must gather with people who share common values with you. You can no longer afford to invest your precious time and psychic energy with people who do not embody the highest vibration of what you desire, and know to be true. You will feel better about yourself when you can speak openly about what you value the most, and spend time with those who share your spiritual goals and your purpose for living.”

22-Dec. 22) — You have just experienced three years of Saturn in your sign — an event that happens just two or three times in a lifetime. This may have felt like an endurance test, or a time of enforced growth and maturity. First, evaluate what you’ve accomplished during this time, going back to late 2014. Consider the ways you’ve evolved your relationship to yourself. Consider how you relate to your work and life purpose. Going forward, you must use what you’ve learned during Saturn’s visit to your sign. You have unusual manifesting power, and your reliance on self-knowledge will serve to filter out goals, desires and options you don’t really want. Money becomes an important focal point under this astrology, though there’s an added twist: you’re now on notice that you must fully endorse, and feel good about, what you do for the sake of cash. This is the time to live up to your own values, not to violate them. Based on your experiences the past three years, you actually have the knowledge and power to do this. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“To succeed, your work plan must have metes and bounds. You must choose the specific things you need to accomplish within a specific timeframe, and these choices must be prioritized. This does not mean that you will follow your plans exactly, and you’ll very likely alter your priorities as you proceed. Yet it’s essential to start with some organized scheme, so that you have an overview, and you have a first draft to revise.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Capricorn Birthdays 2018
A Special Year-End Gift for Capricorns

“Your passion, deep care and love always shine through; and you have the gift of all great teachers, of making one feel that one is being personally addressed, respected and taken care of.”

— Liz Glanville

Dear Capricorn Friend and Reader:

Are you looking for an in-depth review of your year as 2017 winds to a close? You’re invited to listen to last year’s Capricorn reading, as a gift from us, as you set your intentions for the New Year.

Planet Waves

Once you’ve looked back at where you’ve been (and check Eric’s accuracy), I hope you’ll pre-order your 2018 Capricorn Birthday Reading. This is the reading to get if you have a Capricorn Sun, rising sign or Moon and want an intensive spoken-word meditation on the major astrological events of the year to come.

With Saturn in your sign for nearly three years, you have a powerful ally at your side as you set goals and work toward them. You also may have some questions to answer, such as: How do I take even greater ownership of my choices? And: How can I define myself as an individual and still ‘belong’ to a tribe?

You have a unique set of challenges, opportunities and missions on the way, Capricorn. And you’ll be navigating them in a world where the ground keeps shifting rapidly — both culturally and astrologically, as Uranus enters Taurus and Chiron enters Aries. Luckily, you’re a sure-footed goat — and you have some of the best internet astrology available on the internet at your fingertips.

“The Capricorn 2017 Birthday Reading was expansive and mind-blowing, and absolutely on the money in everything. You helped me immeasurably as I change and change and grow, and change some more. What a time!”

— Linsey

Eric will serve as your cheerleader, thought-provoker, perspective-shifter, inspiration-stoker and deputy problem-solver in two segments of astrology (at least 30 minutes each) plus a tarot reading that combine the best of his therapy training, life-coaching skills and well over two decades of astrology experience. You also get an extended description of your sign.

You can still nab this reading for only $33. This is the lowest price we offer — the price will increase as soon as the reading publishes, which could happen later today.

Happy Birthday, Capricorn!

Amanda Painter

P.S. The 2018 Capricorn Birthday Reading is distinctly different from the Capricorn written reading available in the upcoming Art of Becoming annual project. It covers your key astrology in a different format and emphasis, capitalizing on Eric’s more intuitive, improvisational skills. The Birthday Reading also makes a fantastic gift for a loved one!

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Saturn has returned home to your sign, which will feel good for at least three reasons. You’ll get some relief from your anxieties, which reached a peak in late 2017. Next, a missing part of you is now present and accounted for. Last is that you’re on track for completing many unfinished tasks — and letting go of the ones you don’t need to do. Get that bit out of the way. Unresolved matters, even small ones, are an energy drain and they place stumbling blocks on your path to the future. Yet your most meaningful task for the coming four seasons is defining yourself in a way that’s not dependent upon tribal identity. This is challenging because so much of your self-concept has been intertwined with a concept of family that’s likely to be outmoded. While you’ll still be associating with some of these people, the key to your happiness is being different without having to hide that fact. You don’t need to revolt. Yet you can be yourself at all times, and love yourself for it. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“You are someone who is more connected to the wider flow of the human experience than you might otherwise be. Even if you’re not an official leader, or into politics, you are connected (often rather consciously) to aspects of life that extend far beyond yourself. This connection sometimes comes bursting into your life when you’re not vaguely interested. Sometimes you feel it as a direct calling, and you may or may not know what to do with that.”

20-Feb. 19) — Many factors of your astrology describe de-cluttering: letting go of old patterns, coming to terms with the past, and finding new approaches to relationships. Aquarius is the sign of patterns and how they crystallize. So it will be helpful if you choose a habit to change, then in the same gesture establish a new way of moving in the world. Here’s an example: when you’re coming home from someplace, take a different route from the way you got there. Change something, so that you slip out of habitual behavior. Try this with food, with your social life and with the organization of your living space. Strive to meet new people, and to be accepting of them. Let your life be a dance, and allow yourself to be guided by seemingly random experiences. You know that you have important work to do. You are allowing yourself to have new goals. You also know that you need to love in a deep way. All of this implies change: letting go of what you don’t want, and embracing what offers you love and creativity. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“Within the morphogenetic fields of your sign is an inbred rebelliousness of mind. This comes with the refusal to accept patterns imposed by others; the capacity to hybridize one’s views and have original positions on social and political issues; which in turn leads to a kind of eccentricity that is very much a quality of your nature. So too is a distinct inventiveness, if you can keep your mind awake, alert and young.”

— From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric has now begun work on the 2018 annual edition — The Art of Becoming. You may pre-order all 12 signs here (recommended) or choose your individual signs here.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — The beauty of your astrology is that you can now see what is possible, whereas before, this was not so clear. You have the confidence to know you can turn possibility into potential into manifestation. This is more like learning how to ride a bicycle than it is fabricating something out of thin air. There are methods involved, and you already know many of them; all you need to do is give yourself a little push and attempt something that you think is just a little outside your known capability. Over the past few years, you’ve established a reputation for yourself, and now you get to use that as a tool, resource or commodity. Focus on the practical aspect of whatever you’re doing, whether it’s building your career, establishing or widening your community, or creating something entirely new in the world. Think of your work as carpentry rather than the expression of some mysterious talent. Imagine that changing the world means building a solid, beautiful cabinet, rather than some abstract idea. Appreciate the cosmic beauty of sandpaper and wood glue. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“After many adventures, misadventures, developments, challenges and crises, you’ve integrated the many seemingly separate facets of who you were into someone who you now most distinctly are. I suggest you make a study of this gradual transformation that’s taken over your life, and which is nearly complete. Feel the ways in which you’ve worked out problems that seemed to have no solution. Notice how your confidence level has increased.”

The Year that Was

Dear Friend and Reader:

It’s time to sign off from 2017, a memorable year if ever there was one.

Let’s see, the women’s march on Washington was in January; there were the hurricanes, after which people are still sitting in the dark; the California fires from which people are still evacuating; the trillion-and-a-half-dollar-plus tax cuts for billionaires, added to the federal debt; the killing of internet neutrality rules; and a hundred top entertainers, politicians, reporters and business executives being revealed as sexual harassers or rapists.

Terraced rice paddies in China; photo by Thierry Bornier.

There were the extremely strange, still unexplained mass shootings one night in Las Vegas; one Muslim travel ban after the next; the firing of the FBI director, and the president’s accusation that the Trump-appointed Justice Department is somehow Trump’s enemy; the indictment of four Trump campaign officials; North Korea making good on its nuclear ambitions; Russians still infiltrating the U.S. election apparatus; executive rule by Tweet Fiat; and so on.

Monday Morning Horoscope for Dec. 25, 2017

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — It’s time for an early New Year’s resolution: you and only you will run your life. OK, you do this in cooperation with the universe; that’s a given. I’m talking about the influence of other people, to whom you might have deferred important decisions in the past. Or, people you might have acted toward in a certain way to avoid their disapproval, or because you felt guilty. It’s time to take over your concept of authority: set your own goals, keep your own schedule, organize your life and, most of all, define your notion of success. In order to do this well, you will need to work within the confines of existing circumstances; for example, if you have a job, you come to work at the agreed-upon time, until you renegotiate that and then keep the new agreement. Your ability to negotiate changes in existing agreements will be your most useful tool as you get accustomed to wanting and needing more freedom.

Now, you’re experiencing the actual threshold, the invocation of your new life.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Devotion is stitched into your soul. Maybe you’ve had the occasion to read some classical poetry from earlier centuries, where it’s not immediately obvious whether the poet is speaking to someone they love, or to God. Then after some pondering, the difference seems negligible, because it’s the feeling that matters. Your chart is particularly beautiful this way now: your devotional quality can be addressed to anyone or everyone, to the work that you do, to the people you serve, or to those who serve you. This is an exalted state of being; it’s a rare form of privilege that you’ve earned through years of soul-searching and your quest for personal improvement. Said simply, integrity matters to you. The more influential you become, the easier it is to take that for granted. The easier it is to let yourself slip and slide. Yes, you must give yourself room to play, and remember that your personal truth is what matters the most.

That’s the mark of truth: it’s alive, it’s active, it’s provocative, and it compels you to establish an ongoing relationship with it.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric’s beginning work on the 2018 annual edition — you may pre-order that here.
Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Among many other changes of the past week, your ruling planet Mercury has stationed direct. That suggests you learned something important about a personal relationship, whether this was about your own feelings, someone else’s feelings, or some other factor. Now you get to use that information. You’re at the stage of development where you’re responsible for what you know; literally, your knowledge imbues you with responsibility. This may span from data about the weather, to a credible warning about a person’s character. It may come in the form of a contract that you must have reviewed professionally before you sign it; or having the presence of mind, and the courage, to ask a potential employer a difficult question. You might be facing a decision and know you need more information to make it properly. Once you get the hang of this, and get accustomed to it, you will see that it’s a key to your power as an individual, and also a key to your freedom.

To begin with, I am here to remind you that you’re larger than it all.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric’s beginning work on the 2018 annual edition — you may pre-order that here.
Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Saturn has arrived in your opposite sign Capricorn, where we look for information about relationships, partnerships and the environment in which you move around. For nearly a decade, the main presence in this angle of your chart has been Pluto. That’s an influence that brings enforced changes, intense reactions from others that don’t quite rise to the level of intimacy, and even a sense of isolation. Saturn will do two things. One is that it will help you establish the kinds of relationships you need. Second is that it will help you get out of the kinds of relationships that don’t serve you (and there are plenty). While Saturn helps us set boundaries, many astrologers perceive that as only meaning limits. Boundaries are useful; they include time, agreements, purpose, and respect. You might decide that you want your own room, which in turn gives you the freedom to invite someone over as your guest. Therefore, you’re likely to find this transit helpful.

“You are the kind of person who must become your intentions and give everything all you’ve got. You feel better when you do this, even if you’re having to stretch a little. Being half-hearted does not suit you. You are a whole-hearted person, you want to feel that fully, and you want to be appreciated for what you do. This is the essence of self-esteem and it’s currently one of the most basic elements of your astrology.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric’s beginning work on the 2018 annual edition — you may pre-order that here.
Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Mercury has just changed to direct motion in the angle of your chart connected to creativity, pleasure and play. So the question here is: what are you doing for fun? There’s plenty of emphasis on work these days, and a new phase of your life opening up that’s based on getting the job done well. Yet you need to do that Leo thing and express the thing you love to do the very most, and in a big way. If you’re fortunate enough to have some time off for the holidays, do the thing you want to do rather than what anyone else might think you should do. You may need to coax yourself into this, given that there’s so much important business to attend to. You will have time for that; and, going forward, you will need to make a special effort to pace yourself, strive for efficiency and, most of all, prioritize.

Both will happen as part of the same process.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric’s beginning work on the 2018 annual edition — you may pre-order that here.
Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — It’s time to get serious about what you love to do, and to confront all the obstacles that have stopped you in the past. Start by not taking them personally. Read the story of anyone who actually accomplished something and you’ll notice that, at first, it seemed impossible. What else is worth attempting? Yet the tasks, talent development or ideas before you are not really so daunting. Success is as much about the process of learning your craft as it is about what you finally get done. You have time, and you need to use it well. Don’t be deterred by any setbacks at the beginning of a new phase of your life; keep a lab notebook and learn equally from every modest success, seeming failure or breakthrough. Let everyone and everything be your teacher. Marvel at the beauty of chewing gum packaging and great architecture with equal respect and appreciation.

To feel good about yourself, it’s vital that you know how to express who you are, and what you feel.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric’s beginning work on the 2018 annual edition — you may pre-order that here.
Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — There’s no place like home. We now live in a culture that facilitates doing nearly everything out of the house, especially eating and socializing and, for most people, working. Your solar chart is suggesting that you do everything you can at home. Conserve energy, save money, keep things intimate, and use the beautiful space you’ve created for yourself. This will be an important emphasis of your life for the foreseeable future, and you will be in tune with the times. We’re entering a phase of history when genuine, bona fide community will be essential, and that will begin with small cells of people who actually know one another. This, in turn, relates to the ways you will be called to serve your country in a time of mounting national crisis. Defining your home as your boundary will make you more selective about whom you spend time with, and more likely to use that time meaningfully.

“Your workplace must be not just habitable but truly supportive. You simply must like the place where you work, or you risk your mental and emotional health. Others can get by with jobs they hate, or substandard working environments; you cannot. Therefore, invest the time and energy that you need to have a place of work that supports your creativity, your health and your wellbeing.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric’s beginning work on the 2018 annual edition — you may pre-order that here.
Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Though much has changed in the sky during the past week, the elements in your birth sign have remained steady: Mars and Jupiter are working their way into a conjunction (exact on Jan. 6), which looks like some blend of discovery, revelation and orgasm. You’re in a phase of life when you have the full freedom to push this whole seemingly elusive quest for being yourself. Other aspects will gently guide you back to your center if you take things to excess. You’ll have a lot of fun if you use alcohol in moderation (assuming you’re not in recovery; but face it, being drunk is neither creative nor sexy) and if you make conscious and informed decisions (rare enough in humans). That said, whatever you love to do, whatever you’re good at, whatever your passion is, will gradually go from a simmer to a full boil. Use this conjunction well. Cultivate love and forgiveness in your heart, and be impeccably kind to partners, who will be feeling this aspect and whatever it represents manifesting for you.

“You must gather with people who share common values with you. You can no longer afford to invest your precious time and psychic energy with people who do not embody the highest vibration of what you desire, and know to be true. You will feel better about yourself when you can speak openly about what you value the most, and spend time with those who share your spiritual goals and your purpose for living.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric’s beginning work on the 2018 annual edition — you may pre-order that here.
Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Saturn has departed from your sign, and moved on to Capricorn. This concludes a distinct three-year phase of your life, one that had the power of the mythic Saturn return. Over these next few weeks, take it slowly and get used to your new environment. You’re not under the same kinds of restrictions as you were, nor do you have the same boundaries to keep you contained. This means you have more freedom, though it’s worth remembering that most people find actual freedom to be distasteful, frightening and not worth the effort. This is why, over and over again, both individuals and societies drift into situations where they have less and less of the stuff (something currently happening in the United States). By this time, you’ve learned a lot about being your own most important authority. You know that you have to run your own life, and not let circumstances dictate your choices. Take some time and test out your new way of being.

“To succeed, your work plan must have metes and bounds. You must choose the specific things you need to accomplish within a specific timeframe, and these choices must be prioritized. This does not mean that you will follow your plans exactly, and you’ll very likely alter your priorities as you proceed. Yet it’s essential to start with some organized scheme, so that you have an overview, and you have a first draft to revise.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric’s beginning work on the 2018 annual edition — you may pre-order that here.

Capricorn Birthdays 2018

A Blessing from the Cosmos

“The Capricorn 2017 Birthday Reading was expansive and mind-blowing, and absolutely on the money in everything. You helped me immeasurably as I change and change and grow, and change some more. What a time!”

— Linsey

Dear Friend and Reader: Last week, your ruling planet Saturn entered your sign — and is now joined by the Sun, Venus and some lesser-known bodies. Some people fear Saturn; but for you its arrival so close to the solstice is a blessing from the cosmos. If you’re someone with a Capricorn Sun, rising sign or Moon, Saturn in your sign the next three years is a reminder that if you set a goal and are willing to work toward it, nothing is out of reach. It can be hard to feel that way in this day and age, but now you have a powerful ally in your corner.

Planet Waves

One of your most meaningful tasks for the coming four seasons is defining yourself in a way that’s not dependent upon tribal identity. How exactly do you do that?

Eric will be covering that — along with the opportunities, challenges and essential mission of Saturn in your sign — in your 2018 Capricorn Birthday Reading. He’ll also cover 2018’s other major planetary sign changes in your reading (Uranus into Taurus, your zone of play and creative risk-taking; and Chiron into Aries, your zone of home and the emotional landscape) — plus additional aspects throughout (and beyond) the year that add nuance and offer creative opportunity.

Eric crafts these readings with the best of his life-coaching, cheerleading and problem-solving skills; the sensitivity of his therapy training; his uncanny knack to help you see challenges from a more empowering perspective; and with the kind of everyday, practical inspiration you can use immediately.

“Your work has always offered me food for thought, options to consider and clarity when needed. Thank you very much for what you do and how you present it.”

22-Jan. 20) — On Monday Venus joins the Sun, Saturn, Pluto and an unusual point called Quaoar (associated with family patterns and personal creation myths) in your birth sign. You might say this represents the formation of a brand new you, with a whole new mission. At this point of commencement, some basic information will help. First, your mission is to be accountable to yourself. You are responsible for keeping the promises you make to yourself, and you reap the results of your choices. Next, it would be wise of you to keep a close watch on the influence of your family over your choices, your thoughts and your relationships. This influence, of course, is mostly internal, though there are plenty of people still bossed around by their elder relatives well into their 50s and 60s (helicopter parents are nothing new). If that’s happening, it’s time to get a grip, even if you’re much younger. Tribes (of friends) can be just as oppressive. Your life is not about them. It’s about you.

Sometimes you feel it as a direct calling, and you may or may not know what to do with that.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric’s beginning work on the 2018 annual edition — you may pre-order that here.
Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Many planets have, nearly in unison, entered your most mysterious house in all of astrology: the 12th, which for you is the sign Capricorn. The 12th is so mysterious because it’s like the hidden dimension of the psyche — the secret room behind the bookshelf, the basement below the trapdoor covered by a rug, or the abandoned wing of a massive hotel. More accurately, it’s akin to the commonplace dream of the extra room in one’s home, which, when entered, turns out to be endless. Notably, you’ve had Pluto moving through this realm for nearly a decade, which has been challenging and a little scary. Now, more substantial, directly helpful planets have entered. The result is to grant you a kind of Shamanic quest: not magical powers but rather the necessity to bridge your inner world with your outer one; and to allow your life to be guided by the dreamtime. First and foremost, pay attention to your dreams. Everything else will start to make sense.

So too is a distinct inventiveness, if you can keep your mind awake, alert and young.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Eric’s beginning work on the 2018 annual edition — you may pre-order that here.
Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — These weeks mark a meaningful, even important, time of transition in your vocation or profession. You have reached a destination, though obviously not a final one, but a real one. It will be necessary to take a few months and evaluate what you’ve accomplished, which means: what you’ve actually changed in your work patterns, your standing in the world, and your talent development. It’s essential that you not take a rapid or slipshod approach to this. You might start with rewriting your resume from scratch, so that you have a list of your accomplishments and can see a story arc. Meanwhile, it’s essential that you look for ways to take some pressure off your need to achieve new things, which I know is a comment you’ll never hear another astrologer make to a Pisces. Rather than coast, hold your ground, work the projects you’ve already begun, and make the most of what you currently have. As you do this, you’ll set some new and very different goals.

Notice how your confidence level has increased.” — From your 2017 annual reading by Eric Francis, The Book of Your Life — which you can read here. Planet Waves Monthly Horoscope for January 2018

Planet Waves Monthly Horoscope for January 2018, #1181 | By Eric Francis
Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Freedom and discipline go hand in hand. That will be a happy discovery for you, as you embark upon a momentous phase of your vocation in the coming seasons. Note that I did not say career or profession. A vocation can become those things, though it starts someplace else: with a calling. It’s a calling so deep it could be considered spiritual, or one’s true dharma; and the fulfillment of the purpose is more important than success. This will take everything you’ve got, and you’re ready to offer that up. You will need to address any authority issues you have, whether they involve being responsive to others in power or wielding your own. This will be an ongoing process that will largely entail internalizing your sense of responsibility. You will need to work with time, which means pacing yourself; neither being in a big hurry nor willing to wait forever. You’ll need to have faith in yourself, and to persevere, in times when you’re doubting your mission or when things don’t seem to be going well. At the heart of your life plan must be some concept of home. That’s the most dependable way to provide grounding not just for your success but also a place where you can rest and connect with others. Just remember, all true collaboration depends on intimacy, and is fed by passion. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Integrity is the very essence of your nature, and you possess a keen awareness of right and wrong. You’ve also figured out by now that you must bring your flexibility into every situation. Nothing is carved in stone or set in concrete, especially where your personal ethics are concerned. You can afford to evaluate every situation on its own merits. You’ve learned many times that this is better than having inflexible rules, though you might say that strict adherence to the law is a kind of temptation for you. However, you can now look at the world with fresh eyes, which also includes taking a more benevolent view of your own past. You don’t need to judge yourself or anyone, nor does whether you agree with something or not need to be your standard of reality. You are bigger than nearly all that you perceive. You’re bigger than your parents, your family, and anyone who has held authority over you. If you keep an open mind, and set orthodoxy aside, these next few years of your life will provide you with some beautiful and original opportunities to learn about yourself and the world. Regarding the question of scale, what you may figure out is that you’re bigger than all you survey. This is a temporary state of affairs; it’s a useful perspective to take, for the time being. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — You’ve just been through one of the most — what’s the word? Ridiculous? Exciting? Challenging? — phases of your life, and whatever that was, whatever you’ve been through, is over. Time has given rise to something else, as if you’ve been transported to another dimension of your own existence. I don’t think this will be subtle, though it’s possible to live in the past. If you’re living in the present, you will see that the nature of your commitments has evolved into something more tangible, even solid. This will facilitate the building of relationships and associations of all kinds, whether their purpose is making home, making money or making love. It’s likely that you’ve been so enamored of your need for freedom that you missed the privileges that come with having a stable structure around you. However, when you feel commitment coming from inside you, rather than something you feel is imposed on you, you’ll appreciate its beauty. It will be helpful if you’re less enamored of an abstract concept of your freedom and refine that into something you can actually express. You may need to be specific; for example, decide consciously whether you want a relationship to be live-in or not; monogamous or not; financially intertwined or not. Determine the role you want to play in any business partnership, and know the places where you’re flexible or open to compromise. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“The two most significant aspects of life — love, and work — are coming in at full strength at the moment. Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Saturn has entered your solar 7th house of relationships, the sign Capricorn. The most recent time this occurred was 29 years ago, perhaps before you were born. It’s entered Capricorn along with an impressive collection of other planets. The upshot is that where you may have felt like you were living on the frontier, you will now be joined by settlers, who might become colonists. Remember, though, that the spirit of a pioneer is different from that of someone who wants to build a town. You would benefit from those possessing both qualities: those who are undaunted by new territory, and who also want to build something familiar. Saturn’s three-year run through your relationship house will help you clear unnecessary or outmoded relationships, and it will help you develop something entirely new. For many long years, you’ve been deconstructing the rules and traditions that have not served your sensitive and original nature. This has not been easy. Remember that you still have some ground to cover there; and meanwhile, it would be helpful to remove some of the debris that’s been left behind from your various demolition projects. Beware of old ideas, ungrounded expectations, the fear of abandonment and jealousy. The more you give language to these feelings, the easier they will be to work through in a conscious and loving way: the way of the lover. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“You are the kind of person who must become your intentions and give everything all you’ve got. You feel better when you do this, even if you’re having to stretch a little. Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — It’s essential that you balance work and wellbeing. You’re one of the hardest-working people you know, and one of the most willing to sacrifice your personal needs and your health for the sake of getting the job done. However, it’s time to live under less Spartan conditions. You still have plenty to accomplish, yet taking care of your body and your mind must come first. One way you can maintain a balance is by learning something that I’ve seen is rather difficult for those born under your sign: how to delegate work. In doing this, you might follow a simple rule. Only assign tasks to those who do them better than you do. This might take a little time to find, though you need to have total trust when you let go of a task. And that would be worth seeking over time and, if need be, waiting for. In any event, collaboration is an art form. This skill will be worth developing. How you structure your time is also vitally important. You must see time as your ally, and use well the time you have. Think in terms of efficiency, making actual decisions about what is and is not necessary, and how much energy certain projects or goals deserve. Yet the first of these must be structuring a life in such a way that you can take care of yourself. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“The more you take a proactive and creative role, the less it will feel like changes are happening to you and the more it will feel like you are working with the incoming forces to create the change that you want. Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You simply must keep a positive attitude, because you have so much to live for. What’s changing the most rapidly is your approach to your work. You’ve made great strides on this self-improvement project, and now you’re ready for another step: doing everything you do with the passion of an artist. There are those people who would do their work for free (and many who do) only because they love its purpose so much. Whatever job you may have, this is not a thing of the future. Before you get to the “do what you love” phase, you must go through the “love what you do” phase, whatever that thing is. This will cultivate the state of mind that emphasizes both quality, and your recognition that you exist in a network of people who are, ideally, all working toward the same end. Part of your work is the task itself; yet equally important is your influence on your coworkers, colleagues, clients and people in leadership. Whatever you may do, your primary purpose is dharma: acting as if to hold the world together. The “as if” part is important because it takes pressure off of you. You’re not actually responsible for holding the world together; you just have to make every decision on that basis. One last hint: the past weighs on you far less than you may think. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“You could say that apart from all the psychological concepts attached to self-esteem, the experience you’re looking for is feeling good about who you are. This is a feeling, not a concept. Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Many factors in your chart point to grounding: in your home, in your feelings, in your body and in your local community. This follows a phase of being somewhat all over the place, both mentally and physically. You’re now able to focus your mind, as if you’ve just woken up from many days of feverish dreams and could suddenly speak and think clearly. For the foreseeable future, your primary task is to strengthen your foundations. This could pertain equally to home, family and the most personal aspects of your career. Take tangible steps every day to organize your physical space, and your emotional space will follow. Saturn moving through your 4th solar house is about clearing out the clutter, such that you can see the walls and floors of the basement and make any necessary repairs. When cleaning a closet, empty it out entirely first. You will find, through this process, that you need far less than you think; and, further, that you will place a greater value on what you choose to keep. Finally, there’s the matter of your relationship to your family. You’ve reached a point where you must handle this consciously, and not allow anyone to make assumptions or presumptions about you. If you want more space to yourself, and you feel guilty about that, count this as proof that your desires are correct.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — You have the perfect blend of drive and discipline going for you now. Take advantage of this and get your year started off right. Just be aware of one thing: you cannot content yourself with being little. You are past being willing, or able, to make yourself small for the sake of others. Your role is not to bow to their insecurities, nor to worry about how they’re supposed to handle someone who wants to live fully, and strives to do so. As you do this, you may notice the extent to which people seem determined to shrink themselves, to diminish their goals and talents, or to thrive on boredom (which is really a mask over anger). You may feel pressure from peers to conform to this odd way of living. Don’t waste your time wondering whether you can, or whether this is the right thing. And while you may feel the lure of analyzing why people choose to live this way, you would be better served to ask yourself why you ever did. There’s a fear running loose that when we connect with our desire, passion, love or sex drive, that we’re going to go out of control. After all, society could possibly not handle everyone being in contact with their power, living honestly. But here’s the question. How would anyone even know? For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

“You must gather with people who share common values with you. You can no longer afford to invest your precious time and psychic energy with people who do not embody the highest vibration of what you desire, and know to be true. You will feel better about yourself when you can speak openly about what you value the most, and spend time with those who share your spiritual goals and your purpose for living.”

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Taking care of your finances will get you a long way in life. The time has arrived: whatever you may want to accomplish, being grounded, realistic, and resourceful will be your vehicle for doing it. Money flows toward structure, and you need to build that gently around yourself. Start with full awareness of your income, your expenses, your debts, and your needs for future growth. Then, use your skills or get help to build a model you can live in. One way to work is to make long- and medium-range plans for development projects. It’s vitally important, in our current version of the world, that you phase out obsolete equipment and phase in the fully serviceable gear you need to get your work done. This is a matter of planning. Keep all your options open for how to do this — and remember, the world is awash with gear that nobody is using. Take leadership, learn how to pool resources, and get that process going. Remember that your most valuable asset is your talent: what you can do and, in particular, what you alone can do. Set a higher price on that than you ever have; at the same time, you must be bold about demonstrating and even proving your abilities before expecting people to pay. You have the abilities and the discipline to make this happen. And it’ll be worth it, too.

Capricorn Birthdays 2018
A Blessing from the Cosmos

“The Capricorn 2017 Birthday Reading was expansive and mind-blowing, and absolutely on the money in everything. You helped me immeasurably as I change and change and grow, and change some more. What a time!”

— Linsey

Dear Friend and Reader:

Tuesday night, your ruling planet Saturn entered your sign.

— Victoria Bouet

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Saturn’s return to your birth sign describes a sense of completeness you have not felt for a very long time, if ever. Take a moment to collect yourself: a week or two of reflecting on your goals and preparing your mind; and get ready to face the challenges you’ve been avoiding. You now have the perspective and the strength to step up to your life as a full participant. To this task, you will bring all of your resources. You can no longer hide or camouflage yourself. It’s no longer viable to live in a state of limbo, or suspended animation around your commitments — and it never really was. You can no longer disappear, from your own life or anyone else’s. Practicality must take precedence over ideology. What is right is what works for you and for the people you associate with. Perhaps your most daunting challenge is taking responsibility for communication. You are the person who must guide that process, and strive for clarity on behalf of everyone. You can no longer blame people for what you don’t understand, particularly if you have questions you haven’t asked or sought answers to, or if you’ve ignored available information. Commitment means commitment to yourself; and if you’re able to do that, you’ll notice that you come through for others because you want to live up to your own potential.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — The concept of an inner life is elusive to most people. By inner life, I mean the world that you contain, your conscious growth process, and your relationship to your past. How this could elude anyone, I don’t know; but it seems to, in the same way people’s dreams deliver them messages that seem cryptic or incomprehensible and, therefore, not even worth thinking much about. The combination of Venus, the Sun and Saturn entering your adjoining sign Capricorn is about you awakening to who you are inside. Here’s the thing. Doing this involves encountering what psychologists describe as shadow material. That might include your fears, your regrets, and emotions on the embarrassment-guilt-shame spectrum. One’s inner life also includes one’s deepest desires, especially including what the Vedic astrologers call “the pleasures of the bed” — one’s secret fantasies and most profound needs, which are both erotic and emotional. The supposed reward for avoiding awareness of your inner life is the convenience of not having to address any of these things. The actual reward for entering and fully embracing your inner life is being a whole person. Your capacity for intimacy will deepen. Through understanding yourself and your motives, you will be more curious about the inner lives of those you care about. Yet this will also have a way of filtering out superficial relationships. You just won’t be interested.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — The time has arrived to reap the rewards of your success. You’ve done much to establish yourself in recent years, and have risen to the occasion of many challenges. It’s now time to collect. That doesn’t mean resting on your laurels, but rather focusing less on aspiration and more on connecting your efforts to direct benefits. From the look of your solar chart, those might come in many different forms, financial gain being one of them. Some rewards might arrive in the form of increased social and professional standing, which grant you privileges you’ve never had before. You’re due for a time dividend, which means the benefit of time that is your own, like profits delivered after all taxes have been paid. The key to this will be designing your life structure, and then honoring it. It’ll be easier than during many recent seasons, when the emphasis has been on success-at-all-costs Saturn in Sagittarius. The posture to assume at this stage of your life, described by Saturn in Capricorn, is a calm confidence: somewhat reserved, but standing firmly in your self-assurance. People will notice how much experience you have, and will likely be somewhat daunted by it. You can humanize this by being willing to help as you can, whenever someone needs you. Demonstrate going from vision to action with no need to check in with any authority higher than yourself.

Planets in a Minor Key

“Pegasus” by Christine Yates.

Dear Friend and Reader:

For the past two months in this series [see part one, and part two], we’ve been looking at the outer planet transits that take hold in 2018 and last years into the future. Saturn entered Capricorn on Dec. 19, which will be followed by Chiron entering Aries on April 17 and Uranus entering Taurus on May 15.

Just these three events, in such close proximity, describe a rapidly changing world. Distant outer planets describe the energy coming from the ground, as in figure-ground. They’re a background environmental factor that gradually manifests in tangible ways — or as the case may be, instantly.
