Around and Around

Ferry from Fauntleroy to Vashon, by the Vashon Photographer.

Well the joint was jumping, going ’round and ’round,
Hey! reelin’ and a rocking, what a crazy sound,
Well they never stopped rocking, till the moon went down.

Lately I’ve been looking at the astrology charts, and getting the same feeling, wondering the same thing: when does the story resolve?

When you get astrology, you usually get my words, translated into narrative format. I have to write each piece with a beginning, middle and end. I’m an English major, too old to be a postmodernist. I try to tell you a good story, one that makes sense, with interesting characters. When I get the astrology, I’m looking at a circle, and the planets are always moving in their cycles, around and around.

Maybe I have a murky feeling because everything is gathered around Neptune in Pisces these days, and Mercury is retrograde, heading for a 10-day conjunction to Neptune. This is not a picture of certainty or resolution. I’ve never seen this happen before, the end of Mercury retrograde occurring conjunct Neptune. This could turn the whole world into a seance. Get your Ouija board ready.

A birthday letter from Eric Francis, about our mission, and the ground we’re built on

Dear Friend and Reader:

My 55th birthday is this week — a moment of reflection and reorientation.

My chart has Pisces Sun and many other planets; Cancer rising and Aquarius Moon conjunct Vesta. I survived my Chiron return. Lately, I’ve been cleaning and catching up on work, and finally nearing the end of the Intelligence readings.

If I may request a moment of your time and thought, there’s something I want to ask for your help with.

Monday Morning Horoscope #166 for March 4, 2019

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Chiron newly in your sign will take a surge of energy from Uranus entering your neighboring sign Taurus. These transits are directly related, as the two planets are traveling in parallel over a long phase of time — about 18 years (depending on what orb you use). Chiron is directing your inner awareness; Uranus entering Taurus is urging you to act on your personal truth. Altogether, you may experience a radicalizing effect that awakens you to a new sense of mission, purpose or reason for your existence. It would be fair to call this a liberating effect. Yet there is an issue you need to be aware of: humans don’t always respond well to freedom or opportunities to experience it. The main problem seems related to taking responsibility for one’s existence and for one’s choices. The prevailing theme of society right now is “you are a victim,” and it’s coming in from just about every direction. You cannot have it both ways, so you will need to choose one. Get your full Aries reading by Eric here.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Uranus changes signs every seven years, and it does so Wednesday. Last spring there was a brief preview of this transit; it now takes hold for the next seven years, and becomes the primary feature of your astrology. While the stability and seeming predictability of Taurus may appear to be the least compatible with the revolutionary drive of Uranus, the two will provide you with motivation and courage to find out who you are. The essence of Uranus in your sign is reinventing yourself, so that implies finding out who you want to be. This does not happen all at once; it comes in waves and peaks, one of which is likely to commence early in the cycle. You can do your part by considering what you want, what you want to do, or what possibilities you want to explore. Give yourself permission to be different from who you were yesterday. Allow yourself the privilege to live outside the expectations of others who are not entitled to an opinion. Get your full Taurus reading by Eric here.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Amidst much other astrology, Mercury stations retrograde Monday. (This will be the first of three Mercury retrogrades this year.) Along with the Pisces New Moon, this happens in your 10th house, associated with your responsibilities and reputation. Several factors are urging you to make sure you take care of yourself before you take care of others. This is not one facet at the expense of the other, but rather your order of priorities. You may not be fully aware of just how much responsibility you have; certain circumstances are making it blend into the background. You may not know completely how much is being asked of you; it’s more than you think. If you’re feeling this but have not wholly acknowledged it, you could be avoiding or eluding certain duties. And you might feel some need to be less visible when you’re being called to be more visible. It would be better if you consider all of this rather than let it slide. Mercury retrograde will be working to get your attention. Get your full Gemini reading by Eric here.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Chiron’s change of signs two weeks ago has awakened you to certain necessities related to your professional obligations, including renewing your dedication to your calling. Yet for this, you must get out of the office, off of the internet, and into the real world of people, places and things. Yes, you will have plenty to do online, yet the balance piece is essential: the need for direct experience and in-person contact for your full impact, charisma and leadership to be felt by others. There may also be decisions you need to make, especially about how you present yourself to the public. You have been altogether too cautious in recent years, and would benefit from experimenting and shaking things up a little. This is not about being different for the sake of impressing anyone, but rather for the purpose of liberating yourself from what is too familiar, and from what you consider safe. You have little choice but to be unabashedly yourself. Get your full Cancer reading by Eric here.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — For many years, nearly all of your astrology has been coming from the angle of where you are affected by the world, rather than where you have an impact. The world’s changes have acted on you, and you’ve had few opportunities to make your mark on the planet. That’s about to change with the ingress of Uranus into Taurus on Wednesday. This, combined with many other factors, is about you opening up new territory in life, especially where your goals, aspirations and ideals are concerned. For a long, long time, you’ve considered things in theory, and wondered what would be possible if you could fully apply yourself. That time has arrived. This is partly about you discovering a new perspective on the world, but closer to the heart of your personal quest, a new perspective on your reason for living. You need the courage to dare, and to make mistakes. You are different, yet what distinguishes you comes from inside, not from appearances of any kind. Get your full Leo reading by Eric here.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You can afford to slow things down a little; this is time for a review of your relationships, your commitments, and your needs. Though life is not always a game of even-steven, this is a good time to ask whether those you’re involved with are aware of your needs, or are interested in meeting them. It’s time to ask whether you’re investing your energy into what you actually want; and whether you can see a potential desirable result manifesting. You need to bring the power of vision to whatever you do. That means using your mind to envision what is possible, and then envision the steps to getting there. It’s best to work from a potential destination backwards to the present, rather than taking steps without being sure where they lead. This may be the part that takes guts: looking through the chaos and fog the world is spewing out right now, and seeing better options. And then, whether anyone else seems to care or not, choosing consciously. Get your full Virgo reading by Eric here.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — When dealing with work-related subject matter this week, pay special attention to what is necessary and what is not. This will help you avoid solving problems that don’t really exist, or doing what ends up being unnecessary. It will help if you’re sensitive to resistance or any sense of being caught in a bog. That feeling may be subtle, so you will need to pay attention. Look at the clock and notice how long something is taking; is the intended result worth this much commitment? What is the intended result, anyway? Pay special attention to agendas, both your own and those of other people. If there is any kind of persistent disruption or delay, where is it coming from? Is it accidental, coincidental, or part of a plan? Rather than accuse anyone of anything, get the facts, and seek an understanding with people. You need your Libra negotiation and peace-making skills now more than ever. And remember, you’re a master of tying up the loose ends. Get your full Libra reading by Eric here.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Uranus enters your opposite sign Taurus this week, which will be some combination of shocking, refreshing and awakening. Be open to the ideas of others. That doesn’t mean doing what they say, or accepting their opinions as true. Rather, it means sounding, feeling and being open-minded. Consider everything. It’s easy to dismiss ideas because you know they may not be 100% valid. Yet it’s only a little more effort to pause and find the useful bits among the ideas that others may bring to you, or the plans that they may have. The sign Scorpio ranges from zero all the way to 10 on the “easygoing” scale, and you could naturally fall anywhere along that line. The chances are you want control, and you’ll need to guard against the sense that you’re in some way sacrificing that if you listen to what others think. In reality, you will only gain influence by engaging others with dialog on their own terms. People will be happier if you include them in your decision-making process. Get your full Scorpio reading by Eric here.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Current planetary movements reveal that you’re especially emotionally sensitive these days, a quality almost never attributed to those born under your sign. Yet it’s true, and you may find yourself contemplating whether you’re really doing the right thing in life — and whether you can change much at this stage of your existence. There are two sides to working out this equation: how you feel, and what you express. They may seem to be unrelated; and how you feel may drown out any desire to say or do much. Yet you might let the expression side take the lead. Amid much other astrology, Chiron is now in your 5th house of creativity and play. This is an invitation not to get hung up or bogged down in your emotional reality. Let it be what it is; it will take care of itself. Find some area that you consider to be a frontier, and push forward a little. Challenge some idea about who you are with tangible action that keeps you busy. Get your full Sagittarius reading by Eric here.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — You may feel like the pressure is mounting, and like you have little clarity to even determine what is necessary. That is a good sign; if you know you’re having difficulty making decisions or even evaluating your options, that’s far better than driving quickly in the rain and fog. Slow down and make a list of the basic facts and figures that you think influence or affect you. Then study and revise the list over the next few days, and evaluate each point. Is it true? Do you really want or need that, and does it really have an influence? Your perspective will change over the next three weeks of Mercury retrograde. Rather than being certain or conclusive, keep your possibilities open. If you notice you’re trying to convince yourself of anything, pause and take a step back; evaluate slowly, consciously and most of all, gently. Be sensitive to changes in your environment, inner and outer, that render certain previously valuable facts to now be irrelevant. Get your full Capricorn reading by Eric here.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Venus is now in your sign or rising sign, which will seem to tune up this thing called “intuition.” Here’s a theory — intuition is really a response to what you feel, what you think and what you know, in approximately equal measure. Feeling means tuning in to a body sense that is deeper and calmer than an emotional reaction. It’s rarely that sense of totally certain, gung-ho, let’s go. Notice when you encounter resistance, whether inner or outer, and consider what it’s about. Take any opportunity to step outside your usual safe zone of what works for you, and try different approaches to matters related to work, your finances, or your family. It’s not so much that everything is up for re-evaluation. What is changing, though, is how you evaluate, and how you make your choices. Pay attention to new information that may present itself, seemingly out of nowhere, over the next three or four days. Get your full Aquarius reading by Eric here.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — This week’s extraordinary New Moon in your birth sign is calling on you to appreciate all that is not ordinary in your life. At this time, very little is “as usual.” This is partly coming from the prevailing chaos and strangeness of the world. But mostly it’s the result of challenging influences that are entirely internal and self-oriented. You are currently experiencing a realignment with yourself. The recent ingress of Chiron into Aries is compelling you to be somewhat brutal about enforcing your values, which means investing your energy only into what directly matters to you. To know that, you have to think and reflect carefully, and listen to yourself when you say “this is important to me” about the same thing or few things every day. It will be too easy to con yourself out of what you want the most, though that would be impossible if you did not possess some sense of needing to sacrifice yourself for others. It’s not about them; it’s about you. Get your full Pisces reading by Eric here.

An Extraordinary Pisces New Moon

march3-2019

This is one of those weeks when everything seems to happen at once. On Tuesday, Mercury stations retrograde in the last degree of Pisces. Then on Wednesday, Uranus enters Taurus, within hours of the Pisces New Moon.

The New Moon is conjunct Neptune, and conjunct Vesta.

In the spirit of Pisces, we are now experiencing a sea-change. Chiron recently changed signs, entering Aries for the next eight years. Uranus is about to enter Taurus, in a matter of days. When outer planets make moves like this, there are subtle and overt shifts to both inner and outer environments. It’s as if many points of orientation rearrange themselves, and a phase of conscious adaptation is necessary.

Michael Cohen Testimony: Where the Buck Stops

Michael Cohen’s testimony on the floor of the hearing room Weds.
Photo by Sarah Silbiger, NY Times.

Dear Friend and Reader:

Those who took the time out to watch Michael Cohen’s testimony Wednesday heard him describe what is essentially a vast criminal syndicate led by Donald Trump, which has accompanied him into the White House. Cohen hinted that federal prosecutors in New York City (the Southern District of New York) had a long way to go unraveling the president’s crimes.

Cohen was Trump’s longtime attorney and fixer, who pled guilty to various federal crimes charged by the Special Counsel and by prosecutors in New York City. He was the archetypal right-hand man who makes problems — serious problems — go away. Cohen helped get Trump elected many different ways, including setting up the first campaign website, ShouldTrumpRun.com, in 2011.

Planet Waves Monthly Horoscope for March, 2019

Planet Waves Monthly Horoscope for March, 2019 (#1237) | By Eric Francis
Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Tonight’s top story in the solar system is that Chiron has entered your sign. It’s rare when an era-defining event takes place in the home territory of your Sun or rising sign, though it’s happened to you many times in recent years. Yet Chiron will have a way of helping you integrate many unusual past developments in your life. You may have several of those moments when it all suddenly seems to make sense. While this transit lasts eight years, the first year will be one of the most interesting of them, as Chiron makes many aspects to slow-moving planets in the next 12 months. The upshot is that it’s time to wake up and get hold of your destiny, particularly where your professional aspirations are concerned. Your awakening and the work you do are now so closely linked as to be the same thing. At certain times you can feel who you are; at other times you can feel what you want to do. Now, taking action based on both considerations will be more intuitive. You may still feel like you’re balancing two sides of an equation, going back and forth between them — though that’s a sign of progress even if it feels like acrobatics. It’s significant that all of your current astrology puts you into contact with a wider public. You may feel the allure of being part of some larger group or ideology. You don’t need this. Keep your own counsel, and hold to your choices and personal values. When you see a crowd, walk the other way. Your true success depends on it.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — In just two weeks, Uranus ingresses your sign (on March 6), to stay for the next seven years. It is unusual to have two slow-moving outer planets change signs so close together (see Aries, above), though that’s what we’ve got. Taurus is presumed to be the sign of tradition and stability, yet this transit will put you in touch with your fiery, daring, creative core. The first change you’re likely to experience is feeling more alive, and more willing to take chances. You may have challenges in holding down routines, though that will teach you minimalism and discipline — and these will grant you the efficiency you need to use your time and energy wisely. It’s fair to say that you’re entering an extended phase of self-reinvention. This is better if practiced as a daily experience. When you wake up every morning, ask yourself what you want to do — even if you already know what you have to do. The idea is to give yourself the opportunity to choose between options, even if it’s what order you want to do things, which way you travel to work, or what you want for breakfast. Under this influence, using disruptions as opportunities to pause and redirect yourself is a helpful skill. Uranus is self-inventive, and it can also bestow the gift of the creative flash. If you’re short on an idea, pause and ask for some guidance. This is not your “normal” mind working; you will be summoning the spark of the eternal spirit.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — One of the themes of Chiron in Aries is where the individual meets the group. This comes with the temptation to align yourself with a cause, a movement, or an organization; even a clique will do, in a pinch. There’s another direction of travel, which is that of self-discovery. It’s by far the more challenging journey. In truth, most identification with collectives of any kind is directly at the expense of seeking and finding oneself. It’s a little like giving all your money to a cult, when you would be much better off having your own modest apartment, and doing your own thing. For you, Chiron in Aries is a challenge to distinguish yourself: to stand out, and to stand apart. You have abilities you have not developed; you have a language gift that is like gold ore still buried underground. Yet with each passing day, the world is dragged deeper and deeper into a weird kind of conformist cool, nearly all based on marketing programs. The rest is based on the impact of digital, which has been particularly hard on your natural tendencies to be social. I suggest you resurrect those. Spend time in places where the internet is not a factor. Leave your phone home as many times a day as you can. Talk to people in person, and listen to what they have to say. You might ban all forms of online dating, and compel yourself to get among people and remember how to communicate with them. You will have fun, and will be doing your part to save the world.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Chiron is now transiting your 10th house of reputation and responsibility. Soon, Uranus will enter your 11th house of your social world. These two transits are now part of the landscape of your life, and represent a whole new realm of possibilities for you. It will be helpful to distinguish two kinds of leadership: formal and informal. Formal leadership relates to your documented responsibilities; it’s about direct accountability, including those to whom you are accountable and those accountable to you. That’s the Chiron piece of the equation, where your most fitting role is to lead as a teacher. Your knowledge and experience are the roots of your authority (which is a word I relate to authorship). If you come from that angle, you will get better results with people. Uranus in Taurus is more about informal leadership: for instance, setting the example of being different, in ways that are not usually socially acceptable (face it, not much is). This transit is about your personal freedom, and it’s an invitation to push the edge, and to experiment. That includes hanging out with people you never thought you would, and challenging yourself to have a good time. This will suit you, because as this transit develops, nothing will be more boring than normal. And there’s a lot of normal going around right now, so much you can smell it walking down the street. In all respects, your astrology and your life journey are here to remind you that the only thing you can really be is yourself.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — You can afford to be more ambitious. You would be; however, your daily responsibilities and sense of commitment to others keep getting in the way. Yet there are big changes going on in the world and in the depths of your psyche, and it’s time to break free. You will always be someone who maintains a high level of responsibility, though it will help you if you set minimums so you know that you’re at least meeting your bottom line. You can then define success by the new creative and professional territory that you take. You don’t need a revolution; you only need an idea. Remember that ideas are fragile in this world, especially for someone like you who has so much for which people are depending on you. Yet with each passing day, you can gradually modify your work patterns, and you can incrementally renegotiate the expectations others have of you, and what you have promised them. Better still, engage those same people to support your projects. This will be instructive. Not only will you discover who around you has talents, you’ll find out how they feel about expressing them; and better yet, you will get a sense of who in your life has a concept of mutuality. Who cares about you enough to get behind what you want to do? Who will watch the kids or watch the store or take care of your critters and plants while you do something new and interesting? Ask politely, and see who responds. The results of this experiment will be interesting.

Get your full Leo INTELLIGENCE reading by Eric here.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You need to raise your standard for what constitutes “fun.” You are cautious by nature, so it won’t take much; though actual fun always requires pushing some limit or taking a risk. There has to be an element of passion involved, and that has to come from you and not from the thing you’re doing. Often your point of discovery involves other people. They are endlessly fascinating, challenging and time-consuming. They can provide a forum for your self-discovery, they can be teachers, they can be inspirations, and they can be major distractions. It will be helpful if you enter some territory where others cannot go with you. You need some point of inner orientation that’s not subject to the opinions of others. You might be surprised to discover the extent to which your every thought feels subject to evaluation and even to judgment. If you struggle with guilt in any form, this is likely to be an element of it. The underlying question may be something like: within your life, what is really yours? What physical things, desires, feelings and spaces actually belong to you? And when you claim these things that are rightfully yours, how do you feel? If you feel any misgivings, one result could be that you condition yourself to be cautious, so you don’t step on anyone’s toes, get in the way or offend anyone. This is the thing that needs to change. You must be free to express yourself, take your chances and make your choices, without worrying about anyone’s fragile state of mind. This will take practice, though now is a good time to start.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Pay attention to who you meet in these first few weeks of Chiron in Aries. Beginnings are important times, and you are in one now. Last year’s brief visit of Chiron to your opposite sign (associated with relationships) was a warm-up phase, a test run to acclimatize you to your new environment. Now it’s arrived to stay, and you can count it as a new feature in your landscape. The first thing to do is tune in to the people in your life and what they mean to you. This will of necessity require you to set aside your prejudices and go to a deeper level of human experience — with everyone. It’s true that in our era of history, people have never been more expendable. They seem to be easily blocked or deleted; you never know who anyone really is anyway. Part of your yoga in this realm might include never using a fake name on the internet. Consider that if you have to do something under cover of anonymity, it’s either the wrong thing to be doing, or you’re misrepresenting yourself. The notion of “privacy” (the usual reason for using fake names) is an excuse, and a toxic one. Every time you fragment yourself, you lose a little energy, and you have to maintain the split-off portion of your being. As part of this, you will expect others to be less real. The theme of Chiron in Aries is being real with everyone, and holding them to the standard of being real with you. Here in the Neighborhood of Make Believe, that’s a radical notion.

Get your full Libra INTELLIGENCE reading by Eric here.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — You have a lot going for you; all you need to do is relax a little. The main thing you will benefit from easing are expectations, both those you place on yourself, and those you place on others. The fewer expectations you have, the less disappointed in people you will be. This is not lowering your standards; rather, it’s about letting people be who they are. Once you know that, it’s easier to figure out what they want, and relate to them from there. However, for this to work you need to be curious about them, and in some way interested in pleasing them. You can afford to make room for who they are, even if they seem to change every day, throw you curves, or in some other way surprise you. This is good yoga for increasing your flexibility in general, and for your ability to be responsive to your environment. Overall, the less tightly wound you are, the better your life will flow. If it seems like certain people are pushing you intentionally, consider the possibility that that’s merely a perception, based on your density level. This is a concept that will be helpful to work with. The denser your vibration, the more erratic others will seem. The lighter and more expanded your vibration is, the more predictable others will seem, and you will be able to anticipate their moves. It’s a little like when you’re driving and you relax and pay attention; you can feel what’s happening just before it happens.

Get your full Scorpio INTELLIGENCE reading by Eric here.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — The recent Full Moon in Virgo is summoning you to focus your path in life, make some decisions, and pull one particular creative angle into focus. I know this may feel more risky now than ever; our lives and the world seem so delicately balanced, and there is so little extra to go around (whether it’s time, money or patience). Yet you’ve entered new territory, territory where you must express yourself from the core of your being, and this is indispensable. Doing this does not happen overnight, though you’ve been building up to this moment for a long time. Your challenge has probably seemed to be about focusing your energy and commitment. Yet you know that on a deeper level, the real challenge has been about taking the plunge of accessing places you’ve never gone deep into, where there is no turning back. If for many long years this particular aspect of your calling has seemed scattered, and somehow impossible to focus, get ready for a new tack. One approach to this new era is to choose one thing, one seemingly small goal, and do it. The ideal aim would seem within reach, contained, specific and would likely be something you’ve experimented with for a while. As an objective, it would relate to a particular thing you produce or to development that you attain. This is not the end in itself; rather, it would be designed as a practice run, so you get the hang of doing it. And with that under your belt, you would move on to another.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — You will never make up for your doubts with false certainty. The two are incompatible. It’s far better to stay in a space where you don’t know, rather than to enter territory where you don’t know that you don’t know. This is, however, the difference between awareness and lack thereof; between being intelligent and being a fool. Do everything you can to stay in contact with your uncertainty, your insecurity, and your overt state of not knowing. Then, stand in a conscious relationship to the mystery. For you right now, this includes important elements of the future, including who you are becoming. You are being driven by the feeling that there really is no telling, and you would be wise to make friends with this. The more you can hold open that space, the more you will give your potential room to grow and become. Beware of clarity, which is often the false certainty of a fixed point of view. One way to avert this trap is to be circumspect. Look at a problem, at a situation, and at yourself from many angles, and collect your observations. This is different from skepticism, which is the belief that the truth can never be known. Being circumspect is, rather, a gentle quest for truth. Along these same lines, it’s vital that you not allow others to confine you, or to define your reality for you. You will have an alert that this may be happening when you feel restless and boxed in based on someone’s ideas about you.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — You have a strong altruistic streak, though at the moment, you must guard this facet of your nature. Kindness is almost always a virtue, though it takes many forms. It’s different from being naïve. It’s different from making an assessment of the world based on an assessment of yourself. A diversity of factors, including the pending Mercury retrograde, are recommending that you focus on getting the facts, and then studying the patterns. This is particularly true where matters of finance are concerned, as well as your personal value as an asset to yourself or in any situation. There are many facets to what I’ll call the “personal asset value” equation. For you, the final result must be solid, rather than a matter of speculation or feeling valuable or worthwhile. At this stage of your life, you need to work with tangible elements: skill sets, specific knowledge, reliability, problem-solving ability, and your positive financial impact. All of this extends further than your immediate personal sphere and reaches into the world around you; that is the essential nature of Aquarius. You are here to be of service, which is measured not in intentions but in results that you can see and evaluate. If you can do this for the next month or so, you will make significant strides in both your value to the world, and to your own income potential — two elements that by all rights are directly linked. But the link is not a given; do not take it for granted. This will take study and practice.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — The Sun has finally entered your zone of the zodiac, which comes as a relief for you more than any other sign. Your cosmic waters need to be refreshed and warmed, and now is the time. In the long-term sense, the notable recent development is that Chiron has moved on from Pisces to Aries, ending an eight-year phase of your life. Consistent with the presence of Chiron, you have most likely faced a series of healing-crisis type events in recent years, including a few odd health-related matters. All of these developments have served to push your self-awareness to a higher level. You were able to resolve problems you didn’t think you could ever unravel, and others that you did not know about, and at the same time, put protections in place to make sure similar things don’t happen again. Given what an important transit Chiron through your sign has been (particularly if you were born in the 1960s), I would encourage you to take the forthcoming Mercury retrograde, which takes place entirely in Pisces, and do a review of your life since 2010. Start by finding some markers of where you were then: who you were with, what you were doing, how you felt, where you lived, and what was the most meaningful to you. Then, suss out the major turning points, and see if that gives you a better sense of how you got where you are today. The future is ahead of you, though briefly and sincerely, the past is calling you to notice the ways in which you’ve grown.

World Within, World About

‘can’t stop dreaming the dreams’ by Lanvi Nguyen.

“These different kinds of pain share a common thread: our lack of healthy connection to each other, our inability to see the full dignity of each other, and the resulting culture of fear, distrust, tribalism, shaming and strife.”

David Brooks in The New York Times

Dear Friend and Reader:

We live in the age of the active shooter and the active shooter drill. We live in the age of the president who is under 17 different investigations, who spews lies and declares pretend emergencies. We live in the age of fake news and not-so-fake news. We live in the time of public relations. We live in the time of the privacy policy and the massive data breach. We live in the decade of guilty before being proven innocent, if that ever happens. We occupy the moment where thinking something is true makes it true.

Monday Morning Horoscope #161 for Jan. 28, 2019

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — You must guard against being too aggressive this week. That’s not an easy thing to measure; it would be fair to dial back your self-assertiveness to statements that include “please,” “thank you,” and “I have an idea.” Mars, your ruling planet, is now passing through the most sensitive corner of the sky — it’s about to make a square to Pluto (described by lots of astrology texts as ruthless) and a conjunction to Eris (subversive, unpredictable). From these basic descriptions you can see why I’m suggesting you ease off and let your mere existence do the talking. In any situation that provokes you, put yourself onto a 48-hour delay, and choose a suitable time and venue for a civilized discussion that strives to gather information first, before placing any blame. This combination of factors calls for anger management, but it also calls for healthy modes of self-expression. Squares want action. Vent your energy in ways that are fun, helpful, and not especially dangerous. Hence, if you go to the gym, don’t try to set any records. Get your full Aries reading by Eric here.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Be a detective and keep a pulse on what’s motivating you. Don’t assume that the face value of any feeling is what you really have going on, or even how you really feel. You might ask others you trust what they think is influencing you, and take their feedback under advisement. Mars is passing through your 12th house. One of my readers recently got me on the phone and we had a chat about this zone, and she reminded me of an old (undated but sounds like the 70s) delineation: what you don’t know about yourself that everyone else knows. I love this because in reality, we don’t really have secrets (try as we may), and the 12th does describe a blind spot. Meanwhile, this can be a productive, interesting and even elevating week for you professionally, as Mercury meets the Sun in your 10th house of achievement. However, I think of the 10th more as the place of responsibility, so that would be a good place to start. Use your considerable talent as a communicator and you cannot go wrong, if you remember that all sides of the story count. Get your full Taurus reading by Eric here.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — This is a good week to influence hearts and minds, though it’ll work better if people come to you rather than you going to them. You’re under an interesting mix of aspects, which to one side indicate that people are drawn in your direction and are interested in what you have to say. In the other direction, there is potential for controversy, which you would be wise to sidestep, or gently brush off. Many people are set on hair-trigger at the moment, which means triggered by just about anything. If there is some portion of your life where you have public exposure, you will benefit from easing back on controversial topics and leaving those discussions to others. Direct your statements to basic human needs, and make sure that everyone in your circle of friends feels taken care of. But please avoid being a provocateur. Mars passing through the hot spot in the sky for the next week or so will have unpredictable results. Don’t let anything come to blows. Get your full Gemini reading by Eric here.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Persist gently with your professional plans, emphasizing responsibility above all else. Back off from ambition in any form, and strive to do a good job. If you’re “selling” or “marketing” yourself, the point to emphasize is that you have your priorities in order and that you can work well within an authority structure. Meanwhile, make sure that’s true. You cannot be over-careful this week and next when it comes to checking that your priorities are aligned with people who are making the decisions or holding the bag. If you are that person, make sure you seek the advice and counsel of those who are around you. Your chart is exceptionally well aspected this week when it comes to seeking the cooperation and collaboration of others, and also, offering help when and where you can. Again, though, this comes down to priorities. Make sure your basic needs are covered and that your resources are not too stretched in anyone direction; then there will be plenty to go around. Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Get help where you need it. You’re not in this alone, whatever this might be. People care about you, they are aware of you, and will be open to assisting you. But don’t wait for anyone to offer; keep your plans open and available, and know what you can delegate, hand off, or collaborate on. It might be the dishes; it might be some heavy-duty project at work. Right now your best asset is your creativity, which means being a source of ideas. This will work best in a collaborative spirit. If you’re a fan of comedy, one of the reasons why really funny writing is that way is because people work on it together. The same holds for most music, and just about anything of a very high quality. Bring that method to everything you’re doing. Keep the discussion going. Immediately steal ideas better than your own. And follow what my godmother Aunt Josie would often say: many hands make light work (as long as someone intelligent is coordinating them). That would probably be you, unless there is someone better. Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Over the next week or so, you may find yourself provoking others out of curiosity about yourself. There’s a theory of communications that this is a kind of bottom line — that all conflict is about self-discovery. If you know this, you can apply the theory consciously and gently, rather than going into automatic mode. Also, there is such a thing as “working it out in the bedroom,” which means exploring tensions on the sexual level, where this is appropriate and possible. In fact most tension between people has a sexual origin, be it attraction, competition or jealousy in some form or another. But “civilized” people tend to push this below the level of full awareness, and that is where trouble can brew. Then, what seem to be unconscious motives and tensions can sublimate into conflict. It does not help that we live in a time when expressing desire and attraction is being shamed out of existence, though in the end, this comes down to respect, and to what men and women work out between and among themselves. Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Your sign is famous for its diplomatic skills, and from the look of your charts, that’s a good thing. You will need to put those skills to use over the next 10 days. Remember that diplomacy is not about rolling over and taking it, or swallowing your pride, or suppressing your needs. It’s the skill of working out communication under tense circumstances. The first thing you must establish in any situation is that everyone involved is a good-faith actor. This translates to making sure that there are no hidden agendas involved, which of course you will need to do tactfully and with some expertise. One strategy you may use is giving people lots of room to vent. It would seem that someone nearby has a lot of feelings they want to get off of their chest, and the best thing to do is to stand aside and allow them the space to do so. You will learn everything you need to know if you listen. You will get a sense of where this person is coming from, and their motives, and quite possibly how insecure they feel. Then, eventually, you can respond. Get your full Libra reading by Eric here.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Now would be a good time for family- or household-related discussions that you want happen on civilized terms. You’re likely to be feeling grounded in yourself, and perhaps more willing to share your feelings than usual. The thing to beware of is confusing one issue for another, for example, work-related frustrations bubbling over into your personal environment. Therefore, figure out what’s really going on with you, what you need, and how you’re doing generally at expressing yourself. This really is the bottom line theme: you have a lot of energy you want to move, and you need to move it, not store it up for later. Think of all the ways you’ve wanted to express yourself. Drummer? Sculptor? Writer? Athlete? Orator? Something a little more ‘Scorpionic’? Name any and all that apply for you, and start doing at least two of them now — sooner, not later. You must make room for yourself and your desires in this world. When you do, you’ll find it rather easy to get along with the people in your life. Get your full Scorpio reading by Eric here.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Amidst much other cosmic activity, Venus will be moving through the late degrees of your sign this week. It’s going to pass through some challenging emotional territory — in particular, a square between Chiron (in late Pisces) and Ixion (in late Sagittarius). For this astrology, you must position yourself in the way that you’re least likely to be hurt by others. This is not about being defensive, but rather aware: of the people you’re close to and their history; of how you know they treat you; of your own tendencies to be treated in certain ways. You’re at one of those points where you can get caught up in the past, or see the past for what it is, and do everything in your power to point yourself toward the future. Of all the people in the world, you’re the only one who you can count on to change and to grow. It’s not that nobody else does. Rather, it’s that you are the only person you can dependably influence (and that is challenging enough). Therefore, use what power you have. Get your full Sagittarius reading by Eric here.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Mars making a series of aspects this week will challenge your confidence, which has been under some stress lately. Yet sooner or later you must gain basic faith in yourself, faith that cannot be so easily shaken. You tend to undermine your own self-assurance on a fairly regular basis. My take is that this stems from seeking approval from others as a kind of habit, and staking your self-acceptance on how they respond. This is the most important trend that you can reverse, in service of your peace of mind and your happiness. This issue is secondary to the problem of using the approval of others as a substitute for your own self-affirmation. You might place a ban on asking advice, or discussing your seeming problems with others. Take your own counsel. Work out for yourself what is yours to work out. Nobody else will ever make you confident or grant you confidence or say that you’re worthy of it (or however you may phrase it). It’s long past time to fully establish this process for yourself, as you will see this week. Get your full Capricorn reading by Eric here.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — You know what you need to say, and you must say it in a way that comes across accurately. You may feel tempted to say too much, or to be overly assertive, when what you need is to be clear and precise. The power of your words alone will convey everything you need to say, and then you must trust that fact, even if you don’t get an immediate response. If you need something, ask for it directly, though make sure you differentiate needing from wanting. Take a self-contained approach, though also take steps to ensure that you’re in harmony with any larger purpose that involves other people or some collective mission. You have your role; everyone else has theirs; you are likely to be in a position to serve as a facilitator of communication. The precursor to this is knowing your stuff: having all the data you need, knowing who is coming from where, having a sense of who possesses what kind of intelligence, and then knowing when (and how) to act. Get your full Aquarius reading by Eric here.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — You will be able to make certain financial moves this week, though make sure you’ve thought them through carefully, and that you not act based on impulse. You must employ a combination of thoughtful strategy and intuition. On some level, this must involve a public relations method, appropriate to your situation and your concept of the public. That said, you have considerable power to take action related to improving your financial situation, a project that you’re likely to have been working on all year. Keep doing what you’ve discovered works, and then try an experiment or two in a similar vein. The most important thing you can do, though, is whatever you can to feel good. Get enough rest, eat some of your favorite food, and avoid scarcity consciousness by granting yourself a few extra privileges. And most of all, connect what you do to the value that it provides to others. This is a basic, demonstrable fact of existence; connect the dots. Get your full Pisces reading by Eric here.
