Your Moon sign is where the Moon was at the moment of your birth. If you don’t know your Moon sign, you can find out by entering your birth data into Serennu.com. It helps to have your birth time but often that is not necessary. You can also read these horoscopes for your Sun and rising signs to see if any additional layers of insight come through.

During today’s New Moon, there’s an opposition between Pluto in Capricorn and the Jupiter-Pallas conjunction in Cancer. Are you sure your emotions are serving a purpose other than as a defense mechanism in response to when you feel your foundations being shaken — or in need of some renovation, so that you’re not building your future stuck in the past?

That question is part of the big-picture view of aspects being made by this New Moon. The Sun and Moon in Leo are conjunct the asteroid Vesta; all three are square the asteroid Psyche in Scorpio.

Vesta’s influence on the configuration asks whether, if you are offering yourself in service, you are also getting your needs met. There is always a question of ‘service’ versus ‘sacrifice’ with Vesta, as well as a question about whether you are devoted to keeping your inner creative spark burning brightly with intention (and, in Leo, outwardly expressing it).

Conjunct the New Moon, the idea is to look inward, since the Moon is not illuminating external distractions as much as usual.

While you’re in there, Vesta will be shining its light on Psyche in Scorpio, via that square aspect. Psyche generally represents a wound to our consciousness that feels like it can never be healed. It’s a fallacy, but a convincing one. In Scorpio (and square Vesta, whose sacred flame also represents the sexual manifestation of creative energy), Psyche represents the sense many have that they are ‘too messed up sexually to ever get better’, or broken in some way.

Psyche is working below the surface, asking about any lack of faith you may feel in your ability to get the healing you need. Remember that squares call for action to resolve their tension. Vesta is holding the torch with utter devotion, illuminating the way out if you’re willing to carry it and see your perceptions for what they really are.

Space is being held open for you to implement your innovate plans. As you unpack each idea note its different components — like old skeleton keys, each idea has its own specific signature that indicates where in your project it belongs. As the energy increases over the New Moon, I suggest taking time to pause and apply some distance to the situation, giving yourself the time and space to make sure you are working with all the information. The energy building in the relationship area of your chart is creating a vortex or opening, like you get to briefly step into a pocket of another universe to explore your options before stepping back into your relationships. I suggest you view this as a chance to do some additional learning about what you and your close partners want through experimenting with different modes of relating and relationship structures. As of this publishing, the Moon is in Gemini, making aspects to planets in the mid-mutable signs. This puts a more mental spin on our emotional landscape, and may make the feeling of holding dual emotional stances or subconscious states more palpable. (For example, as the Moon makes contact with the Mars-Nessus conjunction in Aquarius, the values-based need to stand up to a group and the more superficial urge simply to fit in may feel equally present.)

The real focus for the Moon this week, however, is the Leo Full Moon on Saturday, Jan. 26. It’s exact at 11:38 pm EST and features the Sun in early Aquarius opposite the Moon in early Leo. This is the Sun in the sign opposite the sign it rules, and it presents a special kind of tension between our ego-consciousness (Sun) in groups (Aquarius) and our emotional body (the Moon) taking up the place of our usual ego-consciousness.

Given that the Mars-Nessus conjunction mentioned above (and explored in Tuesday’s Daily Astrology feature on the blog) has to do with either going along with truly mean peer pressure or waking up to it and taking action, notice how you’re feeling as you interact with groups this week.

If you start feeling at odds with what your circle of people is doing, or you start to feel like your sense of self-authority is getting squeezed or feels threatened, get a little perspective on your situation. Chances are, it’s not actually life-or-death, despite how your ego feels about your standing up for what you want most, or know is right.

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Next week’s Full Moon is a good time to ask the questions: Are you physically healthy? What does physical wellbeing look like for you? One of your unconscious habits (what you do without really thinking about it) is to draw on your physical energy to fuel your emotional body. When considering your emotional health I propose you look closely at how you take care of yourself physically and note how you feel. Keep track of what you eat, how much water you drink, and how much fresh air you get. I suggest you also incorporate into healthy physical habits plenty of sex, whether with a partner or through solo self-pleasuring. As you proceed this month, use your Virgoan precision, astute observation and analysis. Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Information may come to light regarding sexual or emotional patterns going back generations through your ancestral line. If you’re trying to suss out the roots of the issue, look at your father’s side of the family. Consider how they related to one another, and the dynamic that the whole family group shared. Was emotional or physical violence tolerated? If so, how did that affect you? Check your dad’s side of the family, and his relationship to his father. This is not research for its own sake; there may be an opportunity here to bring the matter to a close, which would be a welcome development. Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Set aside extra time and space around this week’s Leo Full Moon (Saturday, Jan. 26) for conversations with a close partner. A number of points of potential conflict and miscommunication are still lingering from last year’s series of personal planet retrogrades. With Chiron in Pisces providing potential traction for healing, now is a good time to revisit any topics that need further clarification. But with Neptune in the neighborhood, you will have to make clarity a conscious goal, setting aside idealism. Proceed with the intent of growing closer rather than ‘winning’ the discussion and you’ll bring greater intimacy to the relationship. Remember that some things are more difficult for others to talk about than they are for you — give people space to find the words they need.
