Honor your emotional sensitivity this year, and respect urges for privacy or introspection. Yes, there’s a lot on your plate, and business to take care of; action directed toward financial security will help you create the personal sanctuary needed to feed your spiritual well. Processing issues from the past or from your family, and tending your living space, are important to your evolutionary path.

If you have a Sagittarius Sun, rising sign or Moon and could use some insights on such real-life matters of work, relationships and career, your 2019-2020 Sagittarius Astrology Studio reading by Eric Francis will cover your ruling planet Jupiter’s conjunction to the Galactic Core, a preview of Jupiter in Capricorn, and many other potentially life-changing facets of your astrology.

Written in the Planets

Today’s Pisces Moon squares the Sun and asteroid Pallas in Sagittarius for the lunar first quarter. Symbolically, you’re turning the initial corner in whatever you invoked or began with the New Moon a week ago. In this case, the romantic dreaminess of the Moon in Pisces is pushing (or squishing) against the forward-thinking political strategy of the Sun and Pallas. Where do you feel pressure to do the right thing toward a specific goal, rather than just escape into the fantasy version?

We also have Venus in Capricorn square the asteroid Juno in Libra. Venus here describes ambition that does not want to look ambitious; it also values status and security via relationships, and the ability to care well for loved ones. Meanwhile, Juno in Libra tends to be socially competitive, tracking how people behave and becoming jealous if someone (especially a partner) gets more attention. With Venus flanked by at least six other planets and points in Capricorn, we have a striking image of all the ball guests flocking to one particular (and sophisticated) belle — leaving someone else feeling ignored.

Squares are about inner tension demanding action. Yet this one says to watch your scorekeeping (and related behaviors) in both one-on-one relationships and group situations. After all, the best way to be noticed for your social graces is to feel secure enough in them that you don’t need to point them out. Those who matter will notice regardless.

In 2020 we have not one but two conjunctions that mark the turn of a generation, and of an era in history. On Jan. 12, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn form their once per 33-year conjunction. Then on Dec. 21. 2020, Jupiter and Saturn, both now in Aquarius, form a conjunction in the first degree of that sign. Read more here…

Written in the Planets

As described in Thursday’s Written in the Planets, Mars in Libra opposes Eris in Aries today. So we have the planet of anger (among other things) in the sign of seeking balance, facing off against the planet of discord in the sign of individual identity. This could describe a situation where one person is acting out attention-seeking behaviors, leaving the other person to decide how to respond.

The main options are to stay disengaged and diplomatic or to get triggered and react in kind. Chances are you know what the more “constructive” choice is; yet if that’s not how an encounter is going, you can still learn a lot about what buttons got pushed and why. Additional aspects today suggest a need to actively reconcile current relationship tendencies with past family patterns and your emerging sense of self. It’s all connected, after all.

Retrograde Mercury in Scorpio sextile Pluto in Capricorn describes the opportunity and incentive to unravel the puzzles being presented to you. Those could include anything from a business proposal to a sexual proposition to some psychological or occult subject — or even a matter of your own health, psychology or spiritual regeneration. Actively inquiring into the matter could reap profound results.

Most of creation is invisible — outer manifestation only occurs after immense activity behind the scenes. By the time a seed breaks ground, for example, its hardest work is done. Some of your most profound achievements over the coming year may likewise be internal. You’ve much to gain from honestly examining how emotional imprints from the past, perhaps involving your family or relationships, impact your freedom to be yourself. You’re both courageous enough to open those doors and ready to take more creative agency over your own life.

Today’s first quarter Moon is a signal to begin moving deliberately (or slowly) into gear with a new project, or with the next stage of a process. Mercury is settling out of its storm phase and into its three-week retrograde through Scorpio. So rather than approaching anything from the zippy perspective of, “gotta get it done!” and multitasking, try maneuvering with as much focus, precision and patience as possible. Get things in place from the bottom-up.

Even though the Sun in Scorpio can be secretive, the square from the Aquarius Moon suggests you may need to work with a group to move things forward. Remember, you can include others in the process and still keep certain opinions to yourself. If that creates too much tension within you, see about making your comments to others as impersonal as possible. Correct small problems as soon as they arise. A Mars-Pluto square in the works emphasizes the need to use your energy constructively, and to beware power struggles — especially with authority figures and groups. Keep everything above-board in such situations.

The asteroid Juno, newly in Libra, makes a square to Pholus in Capricorn today. If you need to bring a relationship of any kind into better balance, small moves are going to count for a lot — meaning, you don’t need to push. In fact, the more frustrated you are at things not being ‘equal’, or the more competitive a situation has become, the more you may need to temper your urges. By all means, take initiative — gently. Then, see how the other person responds. You may find that your modest words and action plus any gestures of theirs in kind are more than enough to smooth things out.

Even when you love your job, there are times when it feels like work. But there’s nothing like the satisfaction of employment that allows you to express your talents in a meaningful way. Keep your eyes open this year for such opportunities. Your birthday chart indicates harmonious ties between self-esteem, values and material security, and work that furthers your own personal growth. Even if this involves service outside of traditional employment, follow through on leads in that department. Make yourself available. Decisions made now have long-range implications.

If you’re in the U.S. (with the exception of Hawaii and Arizona), did you remember to turn your clocks back last night? Mercury retrogrades can be challenging enough without adding in the time change — or forgetting the time change. But with the Moon entering Aquarius this morning, you may find you’re able to take a more detached and less emotionally saturated approach to any hiccups. You might even find yourself coming up with an unexpected silver lining to any disruptions today, or making unusual choices, as the Moon squares Uranus in early Taurus.

Juno entering Libra later this evening (9:28 pm EST / 2:28:07 UTC Monday) brings emphasis to balance in relationships. Do you feel out of balance with a partner? Are you both pulling the same weight? Is there any competitiveness you need to acknowledge and defuse? Again, having the Moon in Aquarius could assist in approaching these issues from a place of less personal affront, which can keep the way more open for understanding. Work and leisure activities involving groups and some measure of freedom (creative, emotional, or social) also look satisfying for the next couple days.

You may find yourself drawn to explore your inward consciousness; your dreams, your deeper feelings, your secrets. Keep a dream diary; notice if you experience unusual emotions during sleep, or particularly vivid imagery. At some point there will probably be a significant revelation, on the theme of your essential being, or a concept you hold dear. If you’re open to this potential and hold space for it without judging, you could transform your relationship to yourself.

Several planets making contact around the zodiac appear to be emphasizing relationships of various sorts. Some factors speak of getting quite particular about emotional needs. Those conversations will likely be very incisive, zeroing in on the most fundamental desires and triggers, and cutting through the fluff and bullshit. If you find yourself in a situation like that, you may need to bring in some lightness consciously — though not in the form of evasiveness. Think more in terms of reminders of the bigger picture, and of how amazing it is to keep learning about those closest to you and about yourself.

Other factors suggest a combination of intense passion, an ability to speak about deep or intimidating topics in a rational way, and maybe even holding space for an atypical sexual experience or unconventional relationship. Bear in mind that ‘holding space’ for somebody else’s process implies a lack of expectation of reciprocation; it’s a form of service, and service is a form of love — more in the ‘agape’ sense than in the romantic sense.

Yet with so much Scorpio (and Taurus) energy right now, the healing process that you’re bearing witness to could indeed be fairly saturated with emotion or erotic energy. That’s not a terrible thing, it just might be a lot to handle for some people, or could contribute to confusion about ‘intentions’. If feelings of possessiveness or jealousy are creeping in, that’s a signal that something other than ‘holding space’ is going on. You might need to check in (with yourself and/or with the other person) with direct, specific communication to get clear again.

With Mercury less than a week away from its station retrograde (on Oct. 31), you can’t be too careful when it comes to what and how you’re thinking, what you think you’re perceiving from others, and what everyone is and is not saying. Expect the unexpected all weekend, as we approach tomorrow’s Scorpio New Moon opposite Uranus. Note also that a square between Mars in Libra and Saturn in Capricorn describes feeling blocked and getting frustrated. Don’t let that — or fears that you’re not up to the task of overcoming an obstacle — get the better of you. Just proceed very deliberately, patiently and thoroughly — with everything.

Monday might begin the ‘real’ workweek for you, but today’s Capricorn Moon suggests getting down to business with your personal priorities. That could mean inner emotional stuff you need to address, or it might describe taking practical steps with external resources, projects and long-term goals.

Note, however, that with Mercury’s opposition to Uranus in Taurus exact, you may need to take an unorthodox approach to things, or prefer to spend short bursts of time on several tasks. Even then, dealing with the underlying facets of what you’re working on could prove more satisfying than just touching on surface levels. Working with some kind of method (perhaps a new one) could help prevent errors, especially if new insights emerge quickly.

Others may challenge your thinking (and you may find yourself unexpectedly challenging others), which could result in particularly blunt or sharp responses. Sometimes that is exactly what’s needed to move ideas and relationships to the next level. Yet this works best if nobody’s being confrontational simply for the sake of it, and if neither party stays attached to their emotions and preconceived notions.

Also, notice if a need for certain things to be ‘just so’ is working at cross-purposes with a broader vision for what makes a fulfilling partnership. These differences could play out with another person (as in, one of you taking one approach, and the second person taking the other), or might manifest as a purely internal tension. If focusing on the details is not leading to a sense of ease, perhaps leaning toward a philosophy of shared purpose will help reframe specific expectations. We all have our bottom-line non-negotiables, but nothing is perfect.

Regardless of your current forms of relationship, it generally helps to view yourself as a whole entity, independent of needing anyone else to ‘complete’ you. The human brain is a magnificent organ, full of wonders that even neuroscientists are still discovering. As a thinking person, you contain a rich, plentiful world of complex ideas, feelings and senses. Celebrate and honor all of that, and remember that loving yourself enhances, rather than diminishes, the love you exchange with others.

Notice the areas of your life where you’re craving some kind of deeper experience. It could come through as tension and frustration, or more like desire and curiosity — though the former appears more likely. What kind of emotional experience are you looking for — sexual or romantic intensity? Creative and artistic edge pushing? A deeper or more well balanced level to a relationship of some other kind? Any of these urges or sensations of discontent signal subterranean changes that you’re being called to acknowledge and respond to. This situation is described by Venus in Libra squaring Pluto in Capricorn, which indicates a phase of new growth is at hand.

With the asteroid Juno in Virgo opposing Neptune in Pisces, there’s another layer to the relationship dynamics at play today. How specific are you being with a partner about your needs and expectations, and are you seeing the reality of the situation? There’s a suggestion here of jealousy, but it may be based on an illusion, exaggeration or flat-out fantasy. It could also be that you’re responding to a partner’s focus on details (or even their nit-picking) with your own rosy insistence that everything’s just fine. Is it, really? Remember that seeing where things could improve is not an admission of failure; it’s an opportunity to negotiate a clearer agreement, and a way forward that better meets everyone’s needs.

Some kind of re-appraisal of domestic situations, perhaps family history that weighs you down, may call for your attention this year. Whatever the specifics might be, keep sight of your own personal aspirations for the future. Old baggage may need to be unpacked and what you’ve outworn given away to Goodwill; free up the bandwidth necessary to actualize what matters most to you as an individual. Adjustments in relationships are often essential to personal growth. Strong friendships seem ready to step right up, so don’t hesitate to reach out. One door may close while another opens wide.

If you have felt some difficulty in relating to others this week, you may notice it peaking today. Close romantic or sexual partners are the most likely context for this, but any bonded, cooperative or creative dynamic with another person is worth attention. The aspect at hand is Venus in Libra square Saturn in Capricorn — though both those bodies are in contact with Juno in Virgo and a deep-space phenomenon in Sagittarius called the Great Attractor.

Re-evaluating what you’ve been putting into a relationship and what you’re getting out of it appears to be the main thrust of any tension here. There’s an additional layer that seems to describe the question of getting needs met, versus being of service in a relationship, versus feeling compelled or drawn along by someone. Notice whether you harbor conflicting thoughts and feelings about your situation, and whether certain fears are looming about the relationship.

Our loved ones are only human, as are we, and worries about whether or not expectations are being met rarely reflect the whole picture of a relationship. Yes, there are times when enough is enough (including when we’re not receiving enough in return for your energy input), and it’s time to move on. And if you’re newly emerging from some kind of Jupiter-Neptune themed optimism bubble, the gradual loss of that shimmer and glow could feel disappointing. Rather than score-keeping right now, however, it’s possible that a little introspection on how much you’ve learned about yourself through your partnerships is called for. Make an actual list, and recognize how you’re growing; those insights can only serve to enhance any relationship.
