Len Wallick approaches this weekend’s New Moon and partial solar eclipse in Virgo from a comparison of unintentional discoveries, and the kind that occur after a conscious search. He suggests you stay alert to moments you might not normally notice, or that seem annoying or distracting.

In general, there are two types of discoveries: unintentional, and the kind that accrues after a conscious search. Findings you make unexpectedly are nearly always points of departure. It’s easy to miss their full meaning until later, and it’s equally easy to disregard, overlook or forget what led up to them.

Discoveries made after a conscious search are another thing altogether. They are achievements and culminations. You know how you got there; and even if the exact results are not as anticipated, you are prepared to grasp their import.

In anticipation of a pair of eclipses this month, you might want to start looking for discoveries now. Your search need not have a direction or objective at first. It will be enough to be alert.

The first eclipse in this month’s matched pair will be a partial solar eclipse when the Sun and Moon come together for a New Moon conjunction at 20+ Virgo. That occurs shortly after 2:41 am EDT (06:41:14 UTC) this coming Sunday. Given the timing of the event, most of you reading this are likely to be in bed when the Moon obscures up to three-quarters of the Sun for lucky viewers in the Southern Hemisphere.

Since this weekend’s eclipse is the first of two, it is implicitly a point of departure. Hence, you might want to approach the event by simply being present to and mindful of events in the days before and after you go to sleep (perchance to dream) on Saturday night. That way you will be more open to unexpected discoveries to be made, whether asleep or awake. You will also be less likely to depreciate such revelations. In fact, you should be particularly alert to what would normally be distracting, and even annoying.

For example, prepare to react differently to an insect buzzing around your head. Instead of swatting, stay your hand. Stop what you are doing instead. Listen to the buzz as if it were a voice. Make an effort to distinguish the kind of bug. Think about what you did to contribute to getting buzzed in the first place.

In other words, make an effort to appreciate moments you would not normally value or make an effort to comprehend. In addition to buzzing bugs, try the same approach with car alarms, barking dogs, solicitors, poll takers and anything else that would normally ‘bug’ you. This is not random, woo-woo advice. The astrology of this Virgo New Moon and solar eclipse implies such uncustomary conduct would be appropriate.

First off, Virgo is ruled by Mercury, which will be next door in Libra at the time of Sunday’s partial solar eclipse. As result, Mercury will be out of aspect with conjoined Sun and Moon. To put it another way, the discoveries to made at the time of this eclipse will probably be out of both sight (aspect) and mind (Mercury) for all but those who consciously choose to step outside of habit and away from distraction or denial.

The purpose of paying special attention to what would normally only annoy you is indicated by how the Virgo New Moon and solar eclipse will take place in nearly exact opposition to retrograde Chiron in Pisces.

Chiron is an object that defies easy interpretation for astrologers. It is complex, as befits its orbital parameters. It is nuanced, as indicated by its discovery chart and astronomical classification. However, there is one correlation that nearly always tells you Chiron is manifesting in your proverbial kitchen: it gets your attention.

Usually, the ways in which Chiron gets your attention correspond to buzzing bugs and other annoyances, which persist until you either appreciate them or do something about them. Perhaps that’s one reason the late, great Al Morrison referred to Chiron as “the inconvenient benefic.”

In combination with the fact that Mercury is slowing down to begin a retrograde of its own before the second (lunar) eclipse later this month, Chiron’s place in the scheme of things — essentially reflecting this weekend’s solar eclipse — would appear to suggest appreciation over action at this time.

There will be time enough to take action and make intentional searches. Most likely that time will come as you approach the total lunar eclipse in Aries which will take place overnight between Sept. 27 and 28.

For now, it will be enough to start looking and paying attention, even if you would rather look away. There are discoveries waiting to be made by those who are prepared to do so. There are unexpected events to both anticipate and (ultimately, at least) be grateful for, once you can grasp them.

Hi Len. Thank you for explaining the Mercury perspective of this new moon being both out of aspect and mind, but still of great potential due to Chiron gift.

Funny you should say it, but hat bug was buzzing around my head incessantly this morning. Kept swatting it away. Darn I may have missed his message! Assumed it was a nat. Not very aware, or best to assume. But what was he trying to tell me? Although I did take particular notice of a bird really singing up a storm outside my window this morning. Something really called me to pay attention to that, and his beautiful message of expression in recieving the new day.

Trans Chiron in retrograde (again) is conjunct my natal Chiron at Pisces 18+ degrees, and Natal Vesta 17+ is there as well. Also, Trans Jupiter is conjunct Natal Uranus at Virgo 7+ currently. I don’t believe I have experienced this aspect since I started studying astrology over the last few years. But something tells me anything can happen and probably will. So as you so succinctly bring to us today, I best be ready and aware.

A great weekend of discoveries to you Len!

      P. Sophia: Just as you experienced my “bug”, i experienced your bird – this morning – really! Amazing, without your comment, i would have been alone in wondering why that bird outside my window seemed to be so unusually loud and taking up so much more room in my consciousness than usual. If anybody else reading this has had a similar experience of another form of being trying to get your attention, please chime in. We might be on to something, and if not for you (P. Sophia), we may not have known. As regards to what you have described of your Chiron return combined with Jupiter transiting to conjoin your natal Uranus, i would say you have the right idea. Thank you for bringing a bit of pleasant excitement to my heart along with your comment today.

Cool, yeah, so I’m about 3 weeks into grad school for performance. We’re doing a lot of rolling around on the floor, somatics, voice work, re-patterning ways of moving, speaking, and thinking. Since we are in the early stages, it is necessary to notice what’s happening, and process what we can, yet wait before coming to any conclusions about what is happening within us. It’s a matter of being conscious, but not controlling, or manipulating how we move, speak, or think.

Michael: You said it. Wait on those conclusions (and judgements too). Also “being conscious without controlling” is an absolute gem of a phrase. Thank you for your contribution today! You have made a valuable contribution and i am grateful.

Cowboyiam: i get what you mean. The very idea of a “crystal triangle” in light of Venus in Leo, Uranus in Aries and Saturn entering Sagittarius is feeling like you are going to be in the right place at the right time in spite of any complications from retrograde Mercury (and remember those retrograde protocols)!

Thanks Len, I’d not thought about the differences between intentional discoveries and the kind you just stumble across; this is very interesting. Many are the times I’ve tried to retrace my steps, or figure out just how I came to discover something and just couldn’t do it. For the most part, I chalk it up to the angels who are determined to get me on that path that I’m not even aware I’m on! Those angel discoveries are ALWAYS much better than the ones I set out to find on my own.

Barbara: Who am i to questions angels (especially the angel evidently living in you)? Nonetheless, if i can make use of the Mercury retrograde to re-trace, re-construct and better understand any of the spontaneous discoveries that might come with Sunday’s solar eclipse, i would just as soon have an understanding of how i got (and contributed to) those discoveries being made.

Hi Len, In rereading the first line of your article here, I just made an unintentional discovery to report.. so will add my comment here.

I just read the Sabian Symbol for the New Moon.  I was taken back as in my reply and metion of training of conciousness your article about qualitative value and the Mercury retrograde period earlier this week, I now find it somewhat mirrors the New Moon’s Symbols. Unintentional. (But, i admit this is not the first time of this type of discovery for me.)

The Sabian degree Virgo 21 speaks of cooperative effort, and purpose. The Quest degree Symbol, Virgo 22, and 23, describe responsibility, training of group integration of one’s counciousness in order to be receptive. And to the development of the concept of.. training!

KEYNOTE: The need to tame one’s vital energies in order to fulfill one’s destiny.

“The whole process of social-ethical and occult-spiritual conditioning of the individual aims at the control of man’s “animal nature.” The energies of this nature can be put to many uses. Implied in any successful process of taming and training is RESOLUTENESS and PATIENCE.”

Yep, I belive this New Moon is hearlding, and aligning us for what’s up ahead in the Mercury retrograde. It’s all working together nicely. A beautiful new pattern, and plan.

    P.S.
Venus’ degree (LEO 16°) and symbol of our New Moon below. Again, (wow!) I just now realized, this moment, the literal channeled symbol is our same message the birds called our attention to the other morning. ..Amazing Len!

THE STORM ENDED, ALL NATURE REJOICES IN BRILLIANT SUNSHINE.
KEYNOTE: The surge of life and love after a major crisis.

“Just as you experienced my “bug”, i experienced your bird – this morning – really!” So sweet. :)

Yes amazing. And I just noticed in my last comment in including Rudhyer’s interpretation of New Moon quest degree Virgo 23, this now jumped out to me “…the control of man’s “animal nature.” All for good purpose. And perhaps the literal message we also recieved?!

I talk to birds, bugs and trees all the time. It’s one of the reasons I describe myself as a nutter. Of course, I’m not really talking to the birds, bugs and trees, I’m talking to myself, allowing subconscious truth to enter consciousness via interaction with nature.

It’s similar to a wakeful dreamtime as Sarah indicated in her tarot interpretation this week. I have always assumed this is a perfectly normal state of affairs for those interested in the cosmic/psychic/mental ways of understanding their role and reason for being on this Earth.

I look forward to this weekend’s eclipse which is almost exactly conjunct my MC. If my public pronouncements make a fool of me, then so be it.
