Moonshine Horoscopes — Virgo New Moon Edition

Thursday is the Virgo New Moon, exact at 7:36 am EDT. (View full chart here.) Genevieve Hathaway has interpreted this lunation for each of the 12 Moon signs in her horoscopes below.

This conjunction of the Sun and Moon in mid-Virgo is roughly opposite the centaur planet Chiron in Pisces. Eric wrote recently, “Because Chiron is so closely associated with the themes of Virgo and indeed tells us a good bit about Virgo, we have something of the perfect mirror.” It’s also the last New Moon before the Libra equinox later this month.

Chiron opposing the New Moon (and even just the Virgo Sun today) is a way of opening up to creative flow that may not seem like it. That is, inspiration can come in the form of a detour or unexpected idea (and in fact, Uranus is in the picture, so ‘the unexpected’ is definitely something you can use productively, even if it seems like it will lead you away from your ‘plan’).

Chiron in Pisces is also a reminder to balance out anything technical with something less linear. Every New Moon is an extended moment in which intuition and conscious, creative will blend together. Sometimes it can be hard to get a read on conjunctions (New Moons are a Sun-Moon conjunction) until after the fact, when you have a little distance and perspective on it. But if you set something in motion during a New Moon, it will likely have legs and keep moving.

Helping out this week is Jupiter, making a sextile to the New Moon from Cancer — the Moon’s home sign. Consider Jupiter in this situation to be like booster rockets — or maybe more like water wings. It’s offering its expansive energy for your use, but will only support what you actively put your creative energy toward.

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Space is now opening up for you to make some changes to your daily routines. Think of these set daily patterns as a way to tend your energy and replenish your emotional space. As an Aries Moon, like a blacksmith utilizing fire to shape and craft a metal tool, you are able to use your internal fire — your desire and drive for action — to mold and shape your life. Working with this large amount of heat and energy, it’s important for you to have set routines, both physical and creative, to burn off some of this high-octane energy. Take time this week to re-evaluate the structure of your days and weeks, and then make changes to how you spend your time. Even small changes can have a substantial effect on how you feel in your day-to-day life.

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — As a Taurus Moon, your creativity has a strong service component. By service, I mean that which you create genuinely benefits others. This incorporates both what you need and what others need. In your projects, there must be some positive influence reaching beyond you and affecting other people for you to feel a deep sense of passion and meaning in what you do. This week’s New Moon is highlighting this service angle, providing a new opportunity to help others in a way that may not have seemed possible before. I suggest approaching this new possibility as a blank slate — leaving behind past ideas and situations that did not work. Gemini (May 20-June 21) — At the moment, your internal space is a very active place with what may feel like a heated internal dialogue going on — many voices pitching competing ideas. An organized environment will give an additional sense of structure, helping you find additional points of grounding even if you feel a bit off kilter in how you experience life. Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — At the moment, a dynamic with a close partner is helping you heal a wound you’ve been working through for a while.
