Paris-based photographer Danielle Voirin travels the world and documents her experiences in photographs. She takes street photography and photojournalism a shade beyond even art, to the level of mysticism. You may see more of her work on her website DanielleVoirin.com, or her alt website, DaniVoirin.com.

Oil, emulsion, acrylic, shellac, silver leaf, iron wire and burned books - the elements Anselm Kiefer used to create Clairière / Lichtung / Clearing, a 94.5 x 67 inch painting currently on display in Paris's Bibliothèque François Mitterand. Kiefer transforms heavy memories of Nazi Germany, Heidegger's philosophy of questioning your own history in order to be fully yourself, and some purifying fire, into art.

Every time I see his work in person it sparks a fire and I have to make something with my hands, whether it’s food, music, painting or collage. He inspires you to transform and create, with physical, tangible materials.

Thank you for yet another astounding photo and description, Dani. I’ve not seen Anselm Kiefer’s work before. At first glance it made me think of the totally transformative energy of a black hole. I would love to see it up close and personal.

I hope you have the opportunity to see his work in person. It’s powerful. He uses so many different materials and layers, that I walk away with ideas I hadn’t considered before, inspiration to experiment, feeling that everything is possible.

He was asked to describe his creative process in an interview and he said (paraphrased from the French): I gather all sorts of things together, books, various materials, plants… and a contact occurs. It has something in common with synapses, that allow a connection. There’s a spark.

Thank you, Dani, that does sound very inspirational. I very much look forward to seeing his work in person and I hope to experience what you describe. Thank you, too, for the translation of his comments and for introducing his work to me. All best wishes. Geoff.

“Exactly, so the passage is simply any path to remembering, to finding what has been lost, dismembered, burned, destoyed or cast aside, and remembering how it all goes together so that the heart of the World/’the earth and all its consciousnesses’ may be healed and whole again.

Try Ixion (will to the highest), Rhadamanthus (will to justice and balance), Varuna (will to right action/activity), and Vulkanus (the love and creativity that flows from solar awareness (higher consciousness of the Sun – and its reflected light)) ‘you may be surprised by what you see’. ”
