Hey Geoff……I just saw your response….I can’t view the link due to country/copyright issue….whatever…..I have seen her issue of MUMMER’S DANCE for the States……She is an amazing talent……I have a small collection of her work……..I lent them to my sister……HMMMMMM ….a few years now…………she likes them too………………….

You guessed it, Barbara, it was a link to the Mummers’ Dance.

I’m always amazed to discover artists such as Loreena McKennitt who have been performing such beautiful music for 30 years yet have managed to slip under my radar. Presumably, though, I must have heard her on the soundtrack when I saw the movie The Wind That Shakes The Barley. I’m surprised I didn’t follow it up then.

According to wiki she’s better-known in Canada (her country of birth) and the U.S. than in Europe which may help to excuse my ignorance. But still …

Currently I’m having to stop myself from buying everything she’s ever recorded!

Hey Geoff……….I would bet ….you have BOOK OF SECRETS…….(my favorite)….which if I’m not mistaken is influenced by some European travel……”gypsy in the soul”………….check out Patti Griffin…she is from the States…(Maine ….I think)…..she is another bright light ………….ENJOY….

The Book of Secrets is the only album of hers I currently own. She reminds me of Enya, Clannad and Sandy Denny (ex-Fairport Convention) to a certain degree but has a wider reference than just Celtic music. It’s lovely, dreamy stuff and her voice is perfect for story-telling in song.

Geoff…….I see the connection……one of the things I really appreciate about her ….is her ability to translate “HUMANITIES” type material …and make it her own…her voice is an instrument….Her “VOICE”….portal……..
