Paris celebrates June 21st with the annual Fête de la Musique. This group of merry-makers was following a group of percussionists down the rue de Rivoli and could be heard from blocks away.
Paris-based photographer Danielle Voirin travels the world and documents her experiences in photographs. She takes street photography and photojournalism a shade beyond even art, to the level of mysticism. Hey Geoff……I just saw your response….I can’t view the link due to country/copyright issue….whatever…..I have seen her issue of MUMMER’S DANCE for the States……She is an amazing talent……I have a small collection of her work……..I lent them to my sister……HMMMMMM ….a few years now…………she likes them too………………….

I’m always amazed to discover artists such as Loreena McKennitt who have been performing such beautiful music for 30 years yet have managed to slip under my radar. Presumably, though, I must have heard her on the soundtrack when I saw the movie The Wind That Shakes The Barley. I’m surprised I didn’t follow it up then.
According to wiki she’s better-known in Canada (her country of birth) and the U.S. than in Europe which may help to excuse my ignorance. But still …

The Book of Secrets is the only album of hers I currently own. She reminds me of Enya, Clannad and Sandy Denny (ex-Fairport Convention) to a certain degree but has a wider reference than just Celtic music. It’s lovely, dreamy stuff and her voice is perfect for story-telling in song.
