Play it very cool this week with anyone who displays the alarming tendency to make a list of your shortcomings. By your nature you have the tendency to be the bigger person and petty whining has rarely seemed like a good use of your time or energy. But not everyone understands that or sees the virtue in it. Anyway what someone close to you is looking for is reassurance. They’re just asking for it in their own slightly twisted-around way. Tell them you love them and that they mean the world to you (assuming they do). Then you might find they put the rap sheet back in their pocket and work out their frustrations at the gym.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Aquarius monthly for June 2014.

You seem to be having doubts about your power or your influence, and at the same time you seem to be tamping yourself down intentionally. This may be the best approach for the next few weeks as you work out some ethical issues that seem to be bothering you. This may be stuff that has been hanging around for a while, but which you’ve just been able to focus into a coherent thought. The question relates to one or both of your parents, which is why you can go for so long working something out that you don’t even know exists; it showed up before you were born, and you thought it belonged there. This would be a good moment to question everything you’ve taken for granted, any words of self-defeating ‘wisdom’ that any parent, teacher, caregiver or other authority figure ever delivered to you. One way to find such material if it’s buried is to consider any self-defeating thoughts you have and ask yourself where you learned them. They came from somewhere, but they will have little influence without your support and willingness to play along. It will then be up to you to teach yourself what is right, and to follow that teaching and see how it works. It will help if you gather others around you who affirm what you both know is true. There’s strength in numbers, especially for an Aquarius.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Libra weekly for Aug. 8, 2003.

There’s more to life than people sincerely adoring you. But how much more? It’s not in your nature to cash in on your charms. My take is you use them minimally, much in the way that puppies and kittens eat well and find homes merely by dint of being so cute. However, I suggest you use this moment to solve every pending problem in your life. Ask for all the help you need, all the forbearance, all the being granted exception to the rule status and, more than anything, a raise. And if you happen to take new work just for money, seek a very good price, because you’ll likely get it.

Our current years, if you ask me, stand out as some of the more interesting times in the history of religion. It was the Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung who warned that most religion is a cover-up for, or designed as protection from, direct religious experience. In short, today we are tending to move past doctrine and back into direct contact with the numinous, often looking right at the great mystery. Your charts tell me you are in the midst of a new kind of spiritual awakening or renewal, though it may not feel that way. Your tendency to think of God or Goddess through filters, tradition or structure may seem like it’s getting in the way, though I suggest you let it serve as a conduit for your dawning reality. When in doubt, go deeper into your spiritual tradition, and seek not only for what it teaches about right thought, but also about right action.

It’s as if you’re in a place where you can see the sky, but can’t roam the surface of the planet. Feeding your imagination is not enough; you want real life, not the mental experience of one. Real feelings, not fantasy-induced desire. You can give yourself what you want if you remember that you’re the only one who can. It’s one thing to look up and it’s quite another thing to look for the door. And another still to turn every knob you walk past, and to go down corridors and see where they lead. Some of these may be dark, and they may be a bit musty. Sneeze your way to freedom.

I remember one time years ago my father was commenting on what his friend Stan said about his son Damon. Damon, who is a few years younger than me, was seeking enlightenment. My father (as I remember the story) said he had no clue what that was and Stan (a brain surgeon) was perplexed as well that his son would seek experiences that were not material but in their essence spiritual and fully intangible. There is a book about this kind of quest by an infinitely promising young man actually called The Razor’s Edge by Somerset Maughm. And this is very much the story of your life. No one understands your quest but you. But however the sky is one huge setup for just about everyone getting the heck out of your way and letting you be whoever you need to be. But it’s worth remembering as is written in the Katha Upanishad and so often quoted: The sharp edge of a razor is difficult to pass over; thus the wise say the path to Salvation is hard.
