Weekly Horoscope for Thursday, Oct. 9, 2014

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — A little desire goes a long way. The stuff is more powerful than you may know, which means that right now you must direct it with precision. Use focus, and proceed gently, aware of the law of unintended consequences. Said another way, you must do something that is rather un-Aries-like, and consider a diversity of possible implications of getting what you want. It would be preferable, I think, to focus on what is motivating you. That form of contemplation is precisely the opposite of acting on impulse. Rather, I am suggesting that you act based on self-understanding and a real assessment of your situation. It will be easy to forego this. It will be easy to just plunge in, or to make a choice and set off a series of consequences that you cannot control. Therefore, use control while you have it, which is mostly in the form of awareness prior to making any decision.

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Listen to what others say, even it sounds like crazy ranting and raving. There is good information mingled in there, and as much as you learn about someone else, you will learn about yourself. There is information coming about how words may not necessary be true, or even reflective of a true opinion. Fortunately, words are not deeds — not exactly. There is a buffer between one and the other, and you may find that you need to take advantage of that zone where potential is not entirely manifest. The lesson seems to be that motives are rarely 100% pure. Sometimes they conflict; sometimes they contradict one another entirely. And yet there will be a decision made, there will be action taken, and there will be results. The more closely you listen, and use what you know, more likely you are to experience results in line with what serves everyone involved.

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Negotiate and compromise. Use compromise as part of your negotiation strategy. There are many points to the conversation, most of which you are flexible on. There are others that are essential to you. Know what those are, and if you must trade or bargain, start with the points that may mean less to you and mean more to someone else. I recognize this is not exactly a heart-centered approach, yet neither is a breakdown in communication or its consequences. At the moment, I would say that strategy reflective of authentic respect is the heart-centered way to proceed, because it will keep the conversation open and quite possibly focused on getting everyone’s needs met. Sometimes this kind of happy accident occurs on its own, and sometimes it’s the result of focused intention; in the current astrological climate, the more precise the better.

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — The recent eclipse of the Moon in Aries opened up many possibilities for you, though you may not see it that way. I suggest you take a look, and allow the next few weeks to take their course. If you think in the language of creativity and curiosity rather than achievement or success, everything will make more sense — and be easier. Said another way, most people set the goal of ‘how to succeed’. I suggest setting the goal of ‘how to do this in the most beautiful way’, which is likely to mean bold, simple and inventive. You don’t need to worry about being different. You already are different, and everyone knows that. If you’re looking to make an impression, explore until you find a direct way to reach others in a manner that speaks to their needs, desires and dreams. Logic is not the answer to the riddle you may be facing; the solution is some form of emotional and creative contact.

There was an error in last week’s Cancer horoscope. Please see the corrected horoscope here. Apologies for any inconvenience or mystery and thanks to Sam for pointing out the error. — efc

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Learn to speak clearly in language that expresses your emotional needs and you will find that people treat you more fairly. This may be a setup, stacking the deck in your own favor. It may also bring on a shift of perspective. If you are feeling like someone is out to cheat you, cheat on you or take something from you, step back and slow down. You may be looking right at someone’s supposed motives, though if they seem sinister or complicated, consider that there is a simpler way to solve the puzzle. Ask yourself one question — where does accountability fit the picture? For yourself first, and for them second? By accountability I don’t mean blame, I mean individuals willing to take responsibility for what is so, and having the strength to make necessary adjustments. This is a two-part process.

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Defiance is not a substitute for personality, nor could you consider it a sign of strong character. It might feel that way, and if it does, you must raise your standards. You are in one of the most emotionally reactive moments in years, a strong comment given how much you’ve been through in that time, and how provoked you’ve so often been. Mindfulness is therefore essential. Once you are in reaction, you cannot impose mindfulness on yourself; by that point it’s possible only to vent (which is not another word for ‘process’). You need to maintain your awareness of your mental and emotional state long before you get there, and I would count resistance, stubbornness or defiance as warning signs that something deeper is going on. In a world where everything and everyone seems to be vying for your attention, it’s not easy to take total responsibility for what you feel, though that would be a helpful intention to set.

Libra Birthday Reading Just Published

Dear Friend and Reader:

Eric has just published an extended reading for anyone with Libra Sun, Moon or rising: one of the most affordable, useful and excellent gifts you can give your favorite Libra.

You may order the full reading here.

The Libra reading looks with fresh eyes at relationship questions (Uranus in Aries), and the healing and personal mastery theme of Chiron in Pisces. Also, Pluto in Capricorn is teaching you to redesign your security base, your notion of home, and indeed your whole concept of safety, grounding and belonging.

Eric also looks carefully at the question of efficiency in relationship. And because there is so much intriguing activity in Scorpio, he focuses the theme of money and financial self-sufficiency.

This reading comprises two astrology segments of about half an hour each, plus a tarot reading. It’s playable on any kind of computer or mobile device (smartphone, iPad, etc.).

Eric’s birthday readings also include a live question and reply forum where you can ask Eric questions directly, (date TBA, and archived for those who cannot make it).

If you’ve been seeking a way to create better balance in your life, look no further than the Libra birthday reading.

Yours,

Chelsea Bottinelli

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You may be waiting for the other shoe to drop, though I suggest you not waste your time waiting. It’s up to you to take conscious steps in the direction that you want to go, which may involve taking a new route or deciding on a new destination from the one you were considering yesterday. Between sticking to one course for decades, and changing one’s mind every 15 minutes (the two most popular options, it seems) is the reality that change happens. You are in the process of encountering a series of influences that are shaping the course of your life. Note carefully whether you’re resisting these changes, and in the alternate, whether they seem to be taking you by surprise, happening totally outside of your control.

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Mars, the planet traditionally associated with your sign, is conjunct something called Pholus this weekend (exact Tuesday, Oct. 14). Mars is the planet of action, self-assertion, desire and at times, aggression. The best key phrase for Pholus I’ve encountered is ‘small cause, big effect’. It’s also associated with runaway reactions and unintended consequences, which can sometimes go on for years. This meeting is happening in Sagittarius, a fire sign best represented by the flaming arrow. The cosmic message is twofold. One is, pay attention to what you do, what actions you take, and how you direct your desire. The other side is that a little (of anything) can go a long way. You do not need a lot of anything, be it effort, intention, desire or any form of ‘push energy’, to get a result. Apply your intention and your willpower with extreme care.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Take it easy — and I do mean super easy. Be cool. I don’t mean act cool, I mean keep your emotional temperature chill and pay attention to each decision you make, no matter how small. Any subtle intention, even admitting your inner desire honestly, can change the course of your life. This is not the time to flirt with loss of control, or with imprecision. The thing is, you may not recognize when you’re doing so. Therefore, be especially careful with idle curiosity, where drugs or alcohol are involved, or in any moment where you’re star-struck by another person. On the creative and constructive side, you have in your hands a truly unusual moment to make actual decisions that point your life in the direction that you want to go. Just remember the concept of a fulcrum. If you point your arrow one fraction of an inch to the left or to the right, you could miss your mark by a yard, or a mile.

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Pay attention to your anxiety. Listen to it, and understand what it’s saying about you and your circumstances. Your fears may be running away with you at times; at least I suggest you notice when this is happening. Many people do not; or rather, are not mindful enough to know that fear is the issue, rather than the thing they are supposedly afraid of. It would be immensely helpful if you were to sort this one out, since if there is any issue it is fear and not the thing feared. Your current astrology is carrying some potent manifestation power, so I suggest you turn your energy toward something creative. Psychic energy is inherently neutral and can be turned to something loving or something toxic by choice. Though this is often forgotten, now would be the time to remember. Remembering means making the choice to focus the power of your mind in the direction you want to go, or what you want to become. Above all else, be truthful with yourself.

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — You have the opportunity to make a splash, a crash or a controversy, with the potential to affect many people around you. I suggest you do none of the above, but rather allow your influence to work in ways that are understated and reserved. While you do this, you’ll need to live with the fact that there are things you don’t understand. For example, that might include not understanding why someone or something is harmful, even if you know intuitively that it is. Why does not matter as much as what your intuition is telling you. One particular aspect is suggesting that your words or actions could have an influence far beyond what you’re even aware of. The same aspect is saying that you are in a position receive information that you would otherwise be unlikely ever to find out. Yet will you know that this is happening when it comes your way? You will, if you’re paying close attention, which is the theme of the moment.

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Ease back a little and let your momentum carry you. You have plenty; you have advanced more in recent weeks than you may have in recent years. Focus on what you’ve accomplished and study the ways that it’s taking you where you need to go and want to be. Focus on your agreements with others. Work from the idea that everything that could ever hang in the balance will be determined by a conscious, and fair, agreement with someone you care about, are close to, or do business with. The responsibility is on you to focus on mutual fairness, and it’s worth stating in advance that not everyone will agree with you, or at least not initially. Still, you must do what is right. To help ensure that, have a clear understanding of when decisions need to be made, and use your time gathering facts and points of view that will help you come from an informed place when the time arrives to implement your plan of action.

Moonshine Horoscopes — Aries Full Moon Edition

Wednesday, Oct. 8 is the Aries Full Moon, exact at 6:51 am EDT (10:51 UTC). (View full chart here.) Len Wallick has interpreted this lunation for each of the 12 Moon signs in their horoscopes below.

To read these horoscopes, it helps to know your Moon sign (where the Moon was at the moment of your birth), which you can find out by entering your birth data into Serennu.com. If you know your birth time, that will ensure accuracy — but often you can still be sure of its sign even if the exact degree is fuzzy. You can also read these horoscopes for your Sun and rising signs for additional insight.

By Len Wallick

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Please consider the virtues of unconventional wisdom and counterintuitive (yet intentional) responses. If any emotional experience of yours provokes something akin to vertigo, look down into it, take it in, examine it — even savor it. Instead of resisting pressure, find a way to yield and be stronger for it. Release any notion about being a force of nature, and let nature show you a thing or two. Get together with others when you feel the need to get yourself together. Seek solitude when you feel the need to show off. Remember, catching the next escalator always requires you to go to the other side.

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Knowing what works for you is one of your greatest strengths. It’s also important not to lose sight of what doesn’t work for you. That being said, authentically engaging in some genuine, good faith give-and-take might go a long way towards making the world work for you about now. To begin with, be open to possibly having a blind spot or two in how you see yourself. If you can accept criticism from those who know you well, and act on it without losing sleep, you will have found the finest line. After that, allow walking the line to be what makes you, not what breaks you.

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — The more a phrase is repeated, the more meaning it often loses. The term ‘spiritual warrior’ appears to have suffered such a fate. While the term may never recover its original power in public discourse, now is an opportune time to redeem those two words for yourself. Start with an etymological dictionary. Then, put your Internet search engines to use, and perhaps your local library. The path toward becoming an authority on both words — and their combination — just might serve to enhance your personal authority as never before.

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Would you rather be right? Or would you rather be loved? If you do not have a definite preference, getting clear on that choice might be the best way out of any conundrums you are going through. If, on the other hand, you can state your priority with certainty, the answer will probably reveal who or what you truly serve, and any sacrifices made to do so. Such an inner dialogue could go a long way toward helping you figure out how you got to be who, what and where you are — while also helping you to grasp how what you really want to do or be might have evolved somewhere along the way.

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — If you can be your own best friend now, the world will almost certainly be a friendlier place for you. Fortunately, being a supportive benefactor for yourself does not appear to be very complicated at this time. First, friends serve to witness your life and hold space for you to live it. Do that for yourself by uncovering the roots of your most important needs and strongest devotions. Once you have such intimate access, take an inventory of how your daily activities and immediate environment jive with your root motivations. Then begin acting to resolve any discrepancies in your favor.

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — It’s about time to engage with any strange relationship fascinations that have long fascinated you to no end. Engagement means going beyond vicarious validations and aloof affirmations towards total involvement. Granted, that’s a big step. More likely several big steps are involved. To find your way through to a more resonant level of intimate connection while also maintaining (or better, improving) your productivity, make sure each step is to a higher level of functioning before you take it. This is more than a haircut. It’s a farewell to vanity.

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You could not be blamed for wanting to take the rest of this year off. So ask yourself how it might be possible to afford a break from what’s worn you down, while still being able to carry what this time in your life has placed on your shoulders. Search within for all the responsibilities and duties you are most fiercely proud of, and delegate those attachments to others who have similar affinities but fresher legs. Show what you know. Be an example for others by releasing attachment as proficiently as you accept responsibility.

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Taking care of yourself is more than just a cursory admonition offered by friends who are too busy with their own affairs to express their concerns more deeply. Get a clue from the best wishes of others and grant them for yourself. Don’t worry about added expenses or greater demands on your time. Serendipitously for you, self-care appears to entail making do with less, more than anything else at this stage of your life. Let intelligent and discerning simplification govern your choices and guide your priorities.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Whenever you find yourself wondering whether life is more than just one thing after another, hold that thought and follow it. Authentically taken, the path should lead you toward somebody who seems to have been down the same road but who is not so busy now — even better, a group of such somebodies. Make time to be with any such person so as to take in how they got from where you are to where they are. If you are lucky enough to stumble upon a collective of similar souls, invest some energy into figuring out what brought them together. It might be the best investment you ever made.

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Allow reluctance to be your guide. Move toward any encouragements you have been resisting, while also giving yourself permission to pull back when the world is too much for you. Yes, you have paid your dues; nobody who really matters would argue with you about that. Simply consider being more open to what reaping accrued dividends might look like. Be especially aware of those who have looked up to you even when you were looking down on yourself, because now is the time to begin showing them (and yourself) how right they were.

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — If every achievement now only leads to greater challenges, give yourself a pat on the back for having probably done something very right. If you are not encountering difficulties at this time, carefully consider where you might have gone wrong and how to correct your course. For as strange as it may seem, your most prickly skeptics are likely your best allies now, provided you heed them. Furthermore, the most persistently demanding people in your life could be your salvation, provided that serving them also serves the highest good. To take the highest road, steer clear of Easy Street.

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — At its most fundamental, chaos is the absence of heat. At its most basic, heat is matter in motion. Even though it might be a big adjustment, your best practices for the rest of this year will involve making heat. Look hot, not because you are self-involved, but because you are self-aware. Feel hot, not by being angry, but by being active. Be hot, with your every first step, and from your very first word. Get moving more as an example for others than for yourself. Don’t worry about being misunderstood, worry about breaking through complacency to the other side where life is lived, where existence is a dynamic and uncertain thing. What the world needs now is heat, and you are just the one to bring it.

Eric Francis Sex By Sign #11 for Oct. 3. 2014

Eric-Francis-GLYDE-Sex-by-Sign-588x2942

ARIES - SEX BY SIGN ERIC FRANCISARIES (March 20-April 19)
The planetary theme right now is truth about your sexuality at all costs. Nothing is worth more than your integrity, which begins and ends with being real with yourself and with others. The cheat of cheating is denying yourself the opportunity to thrive and grow in an environment that honors reality. Secrets can only remain so temporarily, at a high cost. Revealing them frees up time and energy and allows you to make reality-based decisions.

TAURUS Sex in Signs by Eric FrancisTAURUS (April 19-May 20)
What you learn about something over the next few days will fill in many missing pieces of the puzzle. That alone might not be enough to mitigate how you feel about learning something about a loved one you should have known a long time ago, however I suggest you be empathic and recognize that few people are strong enough to tell it like it is, all the time. Therefore, offer your strength, in the form of understanding. The history of whatever this is long predates your presence in their life.

GEMINI Sex by Signs Eric FrancisGEMINI (May 20-June 21)
Your hormones are speaking. What are they saying to you? They might be describing something that you’ve denied, or something that you have not noticed. They might be reminding you of one particular way you know you need to take care of yourself. It will be worth heeding this message, which may also be in the language of desire, such as admitting what you want in a way you have not articulated to yourself. Listen attentively.

CANCER Sex by Signs Eric Francis CANCER (June 21-July 22)
Mercury stationing retrograde in Scorpio says ‘hot talk’ like nothing else. Now, it takes a special person to be articulate about sex, and in our modern world there is a lot of pressure to STFU. Yet there is exquisite pleasure behind the veil, especially if it’s a veil of shame, guilt or the unspeakable. Pull back the curtain and reveal yourself. You will love the feeling so much that it becomes the thing you want above all.

LEO Sex by Sign GLYDE by Eric FrancisLEO (July 22-Aug. 23)
When sexual energy is bound up in emotional insecurity, nobody gets to have much fun — especially you. And while you’ve been a bit prone to worry, there’s another side of your psyche that is coming on like thunder, telling you that anything is possible. Which point of view is true? Well, the one you select is the one that becomes true. But both cannot peacefully coexist, so make up your mind and stick to your choice.

VIRGO Sex by Signs GLYDE Eric FrancisVIRGO (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
What is the story you tell yourself about your sexuality? You have one; your sexuality is full of stories, some of which you repeat until they seem true. Yet you may discover that you’re inflicting a narrative on yourself in which you don’t seem to come out the winner. I suggest you tell yourself a new story, or remember an old one that you may have forgotten — one of depth, fulfillment and trust, more solid than a romance.

LIBRA Sex by Signs Eric Francis GLYDELIBRA (Sept. 22-Oct. 23)
You can turn your doubts to reassurance, if you make the conscious choice to. Few people know or understand this. How you feel about yourself is not carved in stone, or tattooed in indelible ink. It’s fully variable, though highly subject to conditioning. The great thing about being human is you get to decide what conditioning to subject yourself to. You get to decide what is real and what is true for you.

SCORPIO Sex by Signs Eric Francis for GLYDESCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
Think of sex as food. Healthy, wholesome sex is about nourishment. If that is true, then sex that leaves you feeling depleted is not good for you. If this subject rings a bell, consider that the first place to seek nourishment is from yourself. This can and indeed must be about physical contact, but right now it’s also about the ideas about yourself that you feed yourself. You become them — you are what you eat.

SAGITTARIUS Sex by Sign Eric Francis GLYDESAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
You may feel blocked, or said another way, caught between the desire to be cautious and the need to take action. This combination can have a way of making people reluctant to be sexual, fearing negative outcomes, disease, commitment or making mistakes. I suggest you trust your own integrity and make peace with the basic truth that mistakes are part of any real path of exploration. Once you admit that, your inner doors will open up.

CAPRICORN Sex by Sign Eric Francis for GLYDECAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
There is sexual power in withholding, and I don’t think you want any part of that. What you want is pleasure, and the two are mutually exclusive. Offering yourself, and being open to what others offer, is not a sign of weakness or of ‘promiscuity’. It’s a sign of being open to life, which means strength. Embrace sex as a form of love and caring and this will make a lot more sense. If you give it any other role, you will lose its true meaning, and lose in general. Don’t worry what your mother taught you. It’s no longer relevant, if it ever was.

AQUARIUS Sex by Sign ERic Francis for GLYDEAQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
Check out the power dynamics within an erotic affair. You would appear to have an opportunity to get the engagement away from a parent-child or other authority based situation, to a peer-to-peer encounter, which is what I would propose is what you want. Exploring or experiencing in sexual relationships is tempting, though it needs to be done consciously rather than as a covert quality. There must be a real discussion and a real agreement.

PISCES Sex by Sign by Eric Francis for GLYDEPISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)
Focus on who and what you want. Swim upstream, right against the tide of judgment and fear, and point your entire being in the direction of your deepest desire. You may notice that what you feel is different, that it has a transgressive quality, and yet like most or all of your sexual feelings is infused with the cosmic sensation that most people describe as ‘spiritual’ or ‘mystical’. You at least understand that this is about sex.

Weekly Horoscope for Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Just because an agreement you have with someone needs to be renegotiated or clarified does not mean that everything is coming unraveled. But would it serve you better if you did? Do your current agreements really serve you? Upcoming events will demonstrate the value of your independence, something that modern folks are all too willing to give up in order to have some assurance in their relationships. Often that ‘assurance’ is based on keeping secrets, and what happens next is the likely, indeed predictable, result of some seemingly deep secret coming out. I would propose that this is actually rather mundane information, the more potent for being concealed, offering you an opportunity for liberation when revealed.

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Try not to push others to receive the gifts that you have to offer, which are considerable. Rather, notice who appreciates you. Notice who takes on the nourishment that you have to offer. Or better yet, you might focus inwardly during what is likely to be an extraordinary moment of self-discovery. I can see from your astrology that this might show up along with some anxiety of a kind that you cannot easily explain, particularly around the time of the lunar eclipse and New Moon on Oct. 8. If you acknowledge any apprehension you’re feeling rather than trying to suppress or deny it, you’ll be able to tap the underlying creative and self-creative power that is coming to you, or rather, bubbling up from the core of your being. One result could be a stunning moment of revelation that you really exist. Strange as it seems, that is something that often needs to be learned or discovered.

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — You will need to balance the urge to get out and make a splash with some deep needs for solitude and emotional healing. You might start with the healing piece, and take some time to yourself this weekend, and attend to your emotional needs. Then follow your intuition outside your door to whatever interesting places they lead you — though only when you’re ready. Some profound forces of transformation are at work in your life, and I suggest you honor their movements fully. This will not take as long as you might think; it’s a little like how taking a catnap can be more refreshing than sleeping for two hours. Close your door, surround yourself with silence, and allow your inner healing energy to call you to your center. When you proceed from there, you will be more focused and confident — and ready to meet the world.

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Mercury may be going retrograde this weekend, but don’t let that distract you from honoring your plans for advancement in your career or vocation. While there is a rather significant factor of the unpredictable, you still must work out a few scenarios for success and consider how you would respond, if they show up for you. As for the Mercury retrograde piece, that translates to being attentive to two things: one is business-related communication, and the other is ideas that you might otherwise sideline as being too strange or seemingly not workable enough. Sometimes the thing to do is what everyone says is the wrong thing, and the absolutely worst idea. You might not want to leap into something like that headlong, but whatever someone deems totally absurd is an invitation to consider, whether it’s not fantastic.

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Now is the time to think about your long-term plans — from a high perspective that allows you to see for miles. For as bold as you are, you can be a bit near-sighted, and what you need now is a point of view that allows you to consider some possibilities that you’ve never considered. Even if you think you’re onto something big, climb a little higher and look around. Then look up and consider whether there isn’t another level from which to look and see. I’m not talking about ambition — I’m talking about a vantage point. You may have to struggle against some emotional insecurity or a touch of agoraphobia as you do this. Yes, you might want to actually get out of the house and take a little trip — or a long one, and look at the various scenarios of your life and notice what you learn about them. I am sure you’ll be surprised.

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Mercury stations retrograde in the angle of your chart associated with written communication — and with gossip. I suggest you stick to writing, at least most of the time, since there is a delay interposed, and you can edit it. Any time you talk about anyone else, you’re right on the verge of what can potentially harm your reputation or that of someone else. Therefore, be careful what you say. If you’re going to say (or publish) anything, make it positive and as short as possible. The deck is stacked in such a way that what you say now will have unexpected influence later on. Therefore, you might want to think strategically, using your power of speech and written communication to lay the seeds of what you want to grow. As the Grateful Dead said, “If you plant ice, you’re gonna harvest wind.” If you plant love, trust and respect, you will harvest the fruits of intimacy.

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — The Sun has a long story to tell before it leaves your sign in a few weeks. There are many adventures ahead, though you might not notice that if you cling to any form of certainty, or go out of your way to avoid change. Indeed, progress is impossible without change, and so I suggest you tune yourself to all kinds of movement, large and small. Do yourself a huge favor and let go of any expectations you have on other people, and for that matter, yourself. You seem to be sending yourself a mixed message about whether you matter. You are neither the most important thing nor totally insignificant. Between the two is a whole range of actual, authentic meaning, though you are unlikely to believe that if you try to convince yourself otherwise. Nourish your soul. Feel, look and listen.

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Your inner struggle comes down to your ability to receive nourishment. If I were to teach an introductory therapy class, the first segment would cover understanding blocks to receiving love, and blocks to the awareness of love’s presence. The first thing to do is to take care of yourself in a conscious, dependable, structured way. Start with what you eat. Food is not a game, and it’s not connected to statistics (calories, pounds, stone, etc.). It’s not about image. You know what is nourishing for you and what is not. If you are gluten-free, gluten-free cookies might not be what you need; you might need more mineral-rich foods (for example). The thing is, you know. And if you think of this more as an act of receiving than of giving, you might find it easier to negotiate with yourself. Then, of course, there are people. Some are nourishing and some are depleting. It’s good to know who has what you’re willing to receive.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Mars continues to make its way across your sign, and has one of its most glorious and/or challenging moments this weekend — it will be square the centaur planet Chiron in Pisces. You might want to do something that challenges your present sense of emotional ‘worthiness’ or belonging. I would say the more triggered you are, the better. That’s because triggers can reveal your true inner dynamics, which are exactly what you want to know. You absolutely must know the connection between what seems to block you from what you want to do now, and any early wounding you experienced that is working at the root of that situation. This is not merely about making contact with your pain. It’s about knowing your inner landscape intimately, so that you can work with the territory and use your resources effectively.

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — What are you withholding, from yourself or from others? What, in the way of feelings, nurturing, words, or anything? Withholding can come with a sense of power, whether over yourself or over others. Do you detect any of that going on? If so, what do you think is at the root of that drive? Is it the fear of being exploited? One thing that our business-driven, allegedly capitalist society does not like to admit is that it’s from giving that people figure out how much they have. If you’re experiencing the feeling of not having enough, I suggest you try offering yourself to the people around you. You have plenty, and you can also afford to be a lot warmer and more communicative. People like you more than you may think. They care about you more than you know. Your generosity would be an excellent way to acknowledge that — even as an experiment. For example, invite some friends over to a home-cooked meal.

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — The thing to do is take full responsibility for your situation — whether you like it or whether you don’t. To the extent that your life is a mixed bag, you have come a long way toward figuring out that you’re the one who has created or developed the elements of your existence that really work for you. Remind yourself of that fact. While there are definitely some situations calling for leadership, the thing your charts are calling for is self-leadership. Take a few weeks and organize your most personal priorities. Be clear about what you want, which today means resolving to become clear about what you want. This may take a little while; you’ve been distracted, though you now have some time and bandwidth to focus on what is the most meaningful to you. Remember, no matter how much you think you know, this will be a discovery process.

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — This is certainly shaping up to be one of the more high-achievement times in your life. You are driven and determined to stop at nothing, which is calling forth some of your deepest resources. This includes your willingness to stand out; which really means your admission of how different you really are, and your commitment to making that difference work for you. You can, will and in truth must keep going — though I recommend that you take the time to slow down and appreciate the beauty that surrounds you. Make contact with the people you care about, and let them know you’re available to them. It would suit you well if your definition of success includes having the time and space to experience the world in purely human terms. This will be good for everyone, especially you — and good for business.

Eric Francis Sex By Sign #10: Month Ahead for October

Eric-Francis-GLYDE-Sex-by-Sign-588x2942

Month Ahead for October 2014

ARIES - SEX BY SIGN ERIC FRANCISARIES (March 20-April 19)
I’m sure you’ve noticed how people pretend that nobody notices how different they are. Then after a while people convince themselves that there’s nothing special about them. Even though you’re a bold, fiery Aries-type, you’ve done this — though it’s not going to work for you this month, if it ever did. A curtain comes up and an even deeper layer is available for everyone to see. It’s as if you will be revealing your spiritual spark in all that you do, and on one very meaningful level, this is all about sex.

TAURUS Sex in Signs by Eric FrancisTAURUS (April 19-May 20)
The environment of your relationships is a direct extension of your inner environment. And your inner world is changing in unusual ways — ways that will surprise you, and encourage you to let go of hangups that may have been lurking around for years. Work that out consciously and keep your inner focus. The result will be an expansion of the possibilities in your sexual relationship(s), which may start with some experience of the old way of doing/being not working. Then, all at once, you may notice an obvious shift, as if a new (and seemingly impossible) world arises.

GEMINI Sex by Signs Eric FrancisGEMINI (May 20-June 21)
Sex and your ideas about it are so intimately woven into your being that there’s no way around it. Every meaningful facet of your life has threads that will lead back to this supposedly ‘special’ territory — though in truth it’s the most ordinary aspect of living in existence. Imagine if you could live that way — that sex, sexual relating, loving and exploring are part of everyday life rather than something unusual, taboo, wrong, sinful, controversial or whatever. The opposite to all of those things is ordinary. Everyday. And rather exciting, as such.

CANCER Sex by Signs Eric Francis CANCER (June 21-July 22)
All sex and all relationships exist within a group context. It may be a household, it may be a commune, it may be a town, it may be a company. The context either supports or weakens your relationships. This month you have the ability to make sure that your group contexts support you and your freedom to associate with outers. There is a beautifully rebellious energy in the air. Test boundaries, drop your old ideas about right and wrong, and most of all to live like you actually have some power and influence.

LEO Sex by Sign GLYDE by Eric FrancisLEO (July 22-Aug. 23)
Remember, as in do not forget, ever, that the position of religion on sex is the most clever and manipulative marketing campaign in the history of society. As its hook, it uses a mix of natural biology and synthetic guilt. Then there’s a reversal — biology is made to seem sinister and guilt is portrayed as your friend and savior. Meditate on this for a week or two and you are bound to have some experience that shocks you to the full awareness that you are in fact free to do and feel whatever you want.

VIRGO Sex by Signs GLYDE Eric FrancisVIRGO (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
Sex, to be nourishing, must be based on a blend of emotional and physical experience. Yet the emotional side of the spectrum tends to put people in contact with their injuries, and this might be happening to you right now. The answer is obviously not to cut yourself off from your feelings. Rather, the idea is to go deeper into your emotional body, stay close to yourself, and unravel what has been choking you off for so long. This will only be challenging in the initial phases, before you’re aware of how good this feels.

LIBRA Sex by Signs Eric Francis GLYDELIBRA (Sept. 22-Oct. 23)
You don’t always need to be on top — but sometimes you do, and if that is true, then just do it. Remember, this is not about dominating, it’s about accessing part of yourself, and exploring a particular shape of a relationship. Relationships can take many shapes and forms, all of them transient, each leading to the next. They are based on what you and your partner want to feel that moment. You can afford to take a chance — how someone responds will consistently surprise you. Remember, though: equality means freedom.

SCORPIO Sex by Signs Eric Francis for GLYDESCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
If you cannot be free in your imagination, then where can you be free? I reckon this is why the imagination is such a point of controversy and why there are so many efforts to curtail fantasy and desire. I suggest you let yourself be entirely free from constraints or taboos, no matter what you may dream, envision or desire. Allow yourself to embrace the idea that your imagination contains a healing power, which will feel like oxygen that you can breathe in and allow to nourish and strengthen you.

SAGITTARIUS Sex by Sign Eric Francis GLYDESAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
Everyone is a pervert. Everyone has kinks that say something truly meaningful about who they are. It’s just a matter of how honest they are about it, and whether they are willing to act on their desires. How many times have you heard yourself or anyone else say, “I would never actually do that.” But I am wondering why, exactly, you would say that. There must be a reason. I suggest you look at that reason carefully and decide whether it makes any sense at all.

CAPRICORN Sex by Sign Eric Francis for GLYDECAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
From a psychic standpoint, the purpose of orgasm is to release internal pressure, which feels really, really good. From a spiritual perspective, you could say that the purpose of orgasm is to remind you that your true nature is cosmic and that you can glimpse at that every now and then. I would say the more often the better. You have plenty of internal pressure to fuel the process, though you could just as easily overlook that in the frantic pace of modern life. Slow down, take off your clothes and breath deliciously.

AQUARIUS Sex by Sign ERic Francis for GLYDEAQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
Tell yourself the erotic stories that you want to hear — and that you want to live out. Be radical about this. Go right to the core of your desires. Push your imagination to be utterly vivid, and pull back the veils. Doing this will make you quake a little, hesitate to write the next word, terrified and thrilled that someone else might see it. Your words have creative power that can modestly be described as revolutionary. You are ready for this. You’re ready to shake up your approach to sex and that of everyone around you.

PISCES Sex by Sign by Eric Francis for GLYDEPISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)
Two perennial themes for Pisces come up this month. The first is the one about masturbation being proto-sex. You know it’s not ‘this other obscure thing that people do as a substitute for sex’ — it’s the experience that powers your sexuality from the inside. Second is sex as your personal religion. Yes, religion has made sex its nemesis, which reminds me of Diet Pepsi making a cool mountain lake its nemesis (which is basically true). The place where sex meets god meets love is where you live, and that place is now welcoming you home.

Inner Space Monthly Horoscope for October 2014

In October there are two eclipses and a Mercury retrograde — many people will feel put through the paces, but if you psych yourself up, you can put the intensity to good use. Mercury retrograde says review, rethink and revise. Eclipses say transition. So the combination is to resolve unfinished business of the past and get ready to move forward into new territory. The two are related. You know how people, maybe even you, want to go forward without having paid proper attention to what happened in the past. Now is the time to do both at once.

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — You will have impact this month, more than you know. Yet you must stay grounded in reality, which means in communication with the people around you. You may have questions; others may have questions; it will be necessary to focus on internal and interpersonal matters rather than pumping out energy and ideas into the world. I am saying keep your humanity. I am saying remember who you are, even as you discover some new and potentially shocking aspect of who you are. That will indeed be a discovery. One focal point is that it will help shift your reality from a one-on-one concept of relationships to a group/network concept of relationships. While you’re there, remember that every human encounter is one-to-one.

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Imagine a door opening in your relationships, one that you have no idea where it will lead. That possibility is one thing now, and it will be another thing after some kind of development or discovery in your life that makes you want to enter the unknown with some gusto. The idea to focus is the way in which every experience of discovery with another person is really about self-discovery, though in the context of a human encounter. Relationships are not the only way to get to know ourselves, and it’s not an especially safe or stable path without devotion to self-knowledge. For the next few weeks, even as some unusual or high-intensity experiences come your way, you seem to be poised to strike the perfect balance.

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — When most people hear the word healing, they think of a doctor’s office, or maybe if they have gone beyond that model of treatment, the massage table with immaculate sheets in the room with the hint of burned sage. For you over the next few weeks, healing is about pleasure, it’s about adventure, and it’s about the kind of activity you feel organically good doing. You can think of this as pleasure therapy, which may come with remembering some things you loved to do in the past but forgot about. Now would be an awesome time to remember, and to use any break in your routine or your schedule to get yourself back into those activities. This will feel good, you may wonder what took you so long, and the effect will be what you might think of as pleasure therapy.

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — The unusual breakthrough in your career will be a mix of all the effort you’ve invested and something that seems like pure luck, or a bolt from the blue. Most success is some combination of the two. This reminds me of my First Theory of Great Photography — charge your battery, and show up. Lots of different things may happen after that, but unless you charge your battery and show up with your camera, you’re not going to get photos. Therefore, take any preparatory steps you can, including being especially attentive to email, voice mail, and initiating communication when you feel moved to do so. One way to work with your situation is to make sure you remove as many obstacles as possible, and to take affirmative steps as soon as you feel called to do so. With Mercury retrograde for most of October, that means focusing on communication and taking nothing for granted.

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — You may be dealing with some sensitive matters of family history this month. Remember that these things are made more challenging by lack of conversation, and lack of closure. Indeed they would not even be issues if open dialog were encouraged, and if people really understood what it means to address and resolve something. If you proceed in that spirit, you will help make things easier for yourself and for everyone else. You may be able to tip the balance into what is actually creative and productive. It’s true that in American culture (in particular) there seems to be open disdain for the past, though this is ridiculous. We all depend on the past for many reasons, including teaching us what mistakes not to make again.

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — It’s amazing what passes for thinking. Most of it could generously be called rationalization. Plenty else could be called emoting. The rest usually amounts to doing what one is told, by an intimate partner or an authority figure. This month it’s incumbent on you to think for yourself. One aversion to doing this is not wanting to take responsibility for when things go wrong. Yet more is at stake than that. This is not a matter of pride. It’s a matter of taking your destiny into your hands, and doing your part to make sure that the events of your life flow in a way that you will want to live with. So on one level it’s about taking full responsibility, or rather authority, and not letting anyone con you out of your right to make your own choices — and to be fully responsible in any event, whatever may happen.

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Venus is in your sign, which is offering encouragement to use charm instead of force, and an even deeper challenge — to use authenticity rather than any form of pretense. That means all truth, all the time. Instead of sugar coating reality in some way, present the facts instead of your emotional reaction to it, or concealing it. The direct statement of ‘what is so’ is influential in ways that you may not be used to. You might, for example, discover that you don’t need to resort to  convincing anyone of anything. You may be surprised how it can guide the conversation toward a fair outcome. There is one element to the truth that you might be less inclined to get involved with — admitting when you’re wrong. It’s good practice, it’ll build goodwill and make you care about getting it right the first time.

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Mars, the planet associated with your sign, is pushing you to get serious, and creative about money. At the same time you may be realizing how many issues you have with the whole concept, and what this says about how you feel about yourself. The common ground is the subject of worth, or worthiness. These days we think of this as an emotional reward, like a dog getting a treat. Yet the semantic origins of ‘worth’ relate to honor, excellence, capability and actual value. Think of worth as a real thing and it will be real to you. Think of it as an emotional abstraction and you will reduce it to that. In lived reality, worthiness is often something you must demonstrate, practice, exhibit and develop.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — You may feel driven to be yourself, or to assert yourself, yet at the same time you may keep encountering pitfalls or profound doubts. If you think of this time in your life as an opportunity to tap your strength and overcome those doubts, you will make the most of a rare moment. There seems to be some discovery waiting for you about the true nature of spiritual power. It’s something that you access from within yourself, but a strength that may not feel like it’s entirely about you, or coming from you. It has a way of affirming your existence and being a positive influence on others, while denying the existence of nobody else. And the more you tap into this source of strength, the more natural it seems, and the more you become like it.

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Your path to success is through collaboration, cooperation and contribution. It’s true that in recent years you have learned to take on something of a lone wolf quality, which has helped you let go of some codependent tendencies that followed you around for quite a while. Now it’s time to foster a new kind of connection, what you might think of as healthy interdependency. You don’t have to worry about lapsing back into any of your old ways — the evolutionary forces that have propelled you this far from your past are still at work, and are working in your favor. One significant element of progress is that you now have the strength to assert yourself and to initiate the conversation, rather than following along as if pulled by an emotional tugboat. You are now driving your own life.

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — You may think you’re doing something that’s impossible. What you’re really doing is proving that something perceived to be impossible can actually be done. You are not merely trying to do so — you are succeeding. What may not be obvious are the ways in which you are doing so. Your visible achievements may not match up to your vision or expectation of what is possible, though you are building the foundation for that very thing. It will take some time for what you are doing now to rise above its foundations, which is the reason to keep going, not to hesitate, to remain in a position of authorship and therefore authority over your own life.

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Leadership means creating an idea, and taking action on that idea. In other words, it’s about not waiting around for something to ‘come to you’, nor is it about waiting for someone else to do something. Another word for this is initiative, which means being the one who initiates. What you initiate now is picking up the momentum of much that you’ve done in the past, and adding to that momentum. So you’re neither starting from scratch, nor from a stuck place. But neither are you bound to what you did in the past. Indeed, the very point of this time in your personal history is making contact with your determination to enter new territory, to embrace a new vision for yourself and for your concept of accomplishment. This is a vision that will arise in the doing. Don’t worry if it’s not fully formed. Just keep going.

Planet Waves Monthly Horoscopes for October 2014

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Events this month will be surprising and most of all you will surprise yourself with what you are capable of. You are likely to accomplish things you never imagined possible, which relates to emerging as someone you never quite thought you were. This will require more than ‘being real’, though in the most essential sense of that idea, it’s exactly what you will be doing. Yet this is more like being real in the way that you never thought possible. You seem to have gathered the idea that if you are bold and stand out, that will ultimately have an alienating effect on the people around you. You have the potential to discover an approach to life where asserting yourself fits a social pattern that helps you and everyone else. I will give you a clue how this works. Note the tendency for people, government agencies and countries to resort to aggression as the first resort rather than the last. The cosmic law of your chart says that you can do anything about which you can speak openly with others. Establish communication first and act second. Maintain a dialog. Make sure that you speak and listen in more or less equal proportion. And more than anything, don’t try to hide who you are. Assume that you are immediately recognized for who you are, and be that person all the time.

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — There’s no limit to what you don’t know about yourself, which you notice every now and then. This makes some people nervous, and it makes some people into artists, writers, musicians and philosophers. Those born under the sign Taurus live with a special version of what I would call the Persistent Mystery of Self. It can have a way of driving you, whether forward or in circles, though the impulse is not always so conscious. This month two eclipses influence your chart in profound ways. The first, on Oct. 8, seems designed to relieve internal pressure that has been bottling up for a while. This could manifest as a revelation about yourself, as a personal crisis or both — you can be less attached to the form it takes if you know why it’s happening. The effect will be to help you settle down emotionally and feel better in your skin, perhaps after a little storm. The next eclipse, on Oct. 23, takes place on your relationship angle. You may experience a similar phase of transition in an intimate partnership, though this is designed to bring you closer. Remember that many people don’t want to be closer to others, for whatever reason. It’s always helpful to know thyself, then encounter the other, and that is the arrangement. You do seem committed to your current path. Keep your faith.

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — You may be facing a persistent question about the role of sex in your relationships. Cultural mythology on this subject would make any anthropologist’s head spin. We could at least begin by saying that sex plays an important role even in ‘non-sexual’ relationships, for countless reasons, but at least one that you can relate to: People are curious about one another. And there are lots of people who turn you on. But there are no provisions for that in The Rules, and denial is no longer going to work for you. The thing to remember all the time is that you are a biological entity first, and a socially conditioned entity second. So let your biology and your curiosity speak. Notice who is noticing you — these days, plenty of people are –and maybe experiment with that being OK. You don’t need to make excuses for why you supposedly don’t care, especially if you actually do care. There is a zone in life and in your chart where healing and sex meet and blend, and for several different reasons, that zone is under focus right now. Any emotional, psychological or spiritual question deserves a thoughtful review of how your sexual feelings, experiences and values influence that matter. This of course all points directly to your relationships with others, and the question of how real you can be, which is another way of saying how honest.

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — You’ll get more done if you work collectively rather than individually. You might forget this just when you need it most — so I suggest you remember just at that moment. Let any struggle that lasts for more than an hour be a reminder to get the help of other people who may know more than you, have greater resources or more patience and experience for a particular task. Don’t worry if you have to pay them; that is what money is for, though you’re likely to find assistance that can be done as seva (selfless service) or in-kind (you help them later). In any event, the thing to do is ask rather than pretending to be a lone wolf, or thinking you have to go it alone. Once you do, a whole world will open up — a world of passion and creativity, and one where taking certain kinds of risks makes sense and is the thing to do. It will help if you express your goals in a way that appeals to the idea of serving everyone. It’s true that this goes against the prevailing ethos of our time: every man for himself, helping others is pointless, and everything must be done for personal profit. The steps you take this month will guide you and the people around you to a higher level of awareness and more meaningful involvement with the world.

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Most people are constrained by what they believe is possible, or rather, what they believe is impossible. Over the next few weeks, all of that is about to go pop. Things you never imagined in the realm of possibility will emerge as something you can do right now. Embrace the idea that in truth, anything is possible. You don’t even need to ‘believe’ it, or see how you could get there. You must only get out of your own way, and refrain from trying to convince yourself that something cannot be done. Along those lines, it would help if you elected not to subject yourself to the influences of anyone who is telling you what is not possible, particularly if you know they are coming from the place of their own injury. This can be challenging, since so many people think they have a vested interest in convincing others what cannot be done, or protecting them from the possibility that their dreams won’t come true. Be mindful of this and learn to recognize this viewpoint when you hear it. Your world is opening up. Your horizons of space and time are widening. Your sense of who you are is arising before your eyes. You need not debate this with yourself; rather, step into the future with calm confidence and you will see that you’re standing on solid ground.

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You may be more emotional than you’ve felt in years, wondering just how everything you were sure you had worked out is suddenly reminding you of its existence. While it’s true that some of what you’re feeling is a calling to deeper healing, other experiences are more like reviewing an extremely vivid book of the history of your life. Even though you have made immense progress resolving the past, and doing what my Virgo friend Paloma calls “cleaning the tree” of your family of origin, it’s necessary that you stay close to your roots. This is because your roots are your connection to the Earth, and therefore your connection to your own strength. But as you know, this connection takes you deeper than any ordinary concept of the ground, and shifts your awareness to what you might call the cosmic ground of existence. All of your experiences have served to deepen your ability to feel, and to make contact with what many other people would consider to be entirely extraordinary. Therefore, treat all of your experiences and all of your inner feedback with respect and even a bit of reverence. As this phase of your journey continues, it will grow deeper the more conscious you are. It’s heading very steadily in the direction of a discovery of yourself, about the true nature of the past, and your deepest origins.

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Stay close to your roots. Stay close to the person you have always been — the one you have come to trust. You often forget that this being resides right inside you, below your various circumstances, ideas about yourself and most of all, your relationship scenarios. One particular bond could become volatile and unstable; this will compel you to locate and to stand on your foundations. Yet you might want to consider the ways in which not doing so has contributed to that instability. You are at the point where losing contact with your self-respect can result in a nearly immediate shakeup in your life. The remedy, then, is not to ‘fix’ the relationship but rather to move closer to your core. This will have the effect of putting you in a calmer state of mind, and helping you see that there is nothing to fight about; there is no real controversy. Still, you may imagine that others want to dominate you, and that the only way to prevent that is for you to dominate them. I suggest you try a different approach, which is taking a wholly positive, constructive view of the situation. Your battle cry needs to be something like, ‘How can I make the most of this?’ or ‘What can I offer this situation?’ Your ability to do so is a dependable and immediate metric of your self-worth.

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — You may be wondering when things are going to change; you may start to think you’re going backwards rather than making progress. You may seem to lose sight of an important goal, or some crucial idea that you’ve been developing. Fear not. The astrology of the next few weeks is certainly mysterious and will leave plenty of people guessing. Yet as those weeks unfold, you will discover that something is brewing under the surface, and that something is likely to manifest on the day that the Sun ingresses your sign, which is Oct. 23. Now, this leaves a question of what to do if you find yourself in a zero-gravity space, or feeling like you’re unable to think clearly. Your chart says that you will get maximum value from getting lost in your work. Proceed with what you are doing, with full devotion, authentic passion and a healthy dose of curiosity. Imagine that you have no need to think about what’s coming next, nor any desire to do so. Keep yourself focused on the task at hand, which over the next two weeks is likely to get more interesting and take on a value of its own; that is, to be interesting for its own sake. You could call this art or science in its most essential and sincere form, which is the setup for an inevitable breakthrough.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Mars is transiting your sign all month long, and it’s making 17 conjunctions to everything from asteroids to centaur planets to the Galactic Core. Translated into English, you more resemble some kind of superhuman mutant than your average person. You may be feeling your strength more profoundly, as well as your doubts and your seeming imperfections. I assure you, however, that what you’re experiencing is distinctly human. You’re being called, or perhaps compelled, to notice a process that has been underway for years. You usually get some sense of this around the time of your birthday. Now you’re seeing and feeling something that may be vaguely familiar, but which you’ve never quite perceived acutely. One manifestation of this journey has been an inability to focus a clear definition of who you are, a clear sense of identity. You cannot even fake it, which I would say is a beautiful thing. You may, however, feel like as you experience each one of these seemingly different facets of who you are, you’ll be looking for some logic or some unifying theme. That would be you. The dreamer is never separate from the dream, no matter how many forms it takes. The perceiver is never separate from perception. The artist is never separate from their art. Follow this thread and you will emerge in a space where this is so obvious that it’s funny.

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — From time to time, or all the time, you may be feeling like you’re about to explode. You must be careful with this. You are indeed experiencing some profound internal movement, which is provoking you to question and investigate every aspect of desire. If you have not recognized this yet, I suggest that you weave together the many clues that you have. If there is an issue involved, it’s how much you conceal from yourself. This is not a joke. From the look of your chart, it would be fair to say that you conceal (or try to conceal) very nearly everything from yourself, as if doing so would somehow protect you from it. But now the action of Mars, one of your special agents, is provoking every one of your desires, your instincts, your secret issues and most of all, your ambition. The thing to remember is that you cannot pick and choose. To have your power, you must confront your shadow material. To have your strength in the present, you must confront your past. To embrace your desires, you surely must confront your fears. Not doing these things has been stirring up all kinds of chaos in your heart and soul. This is putting you under a lot of unnecessary pressure, and cutting off your true strength. Set yourself free and take a good look inside that vast, extremely interesting inner space you contain.

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — There is nothing wrong with you, though something seems to be sending you that message. From the perspective of your solar chart, this appears as a thought form, probably something you picked up in childhood and that has had a grip on you ever since. You might find more than one of these ideas, and they might be clinging together in what psychology calls a ‘complex’. Events early in the month are likely to propel you to awareness of this issue, and to propel you to escape velocity. By now you have figured out that what I’m describing is a wholly internal situation. It’s not even vaguely caused by your current relationships; rather, your relationships follow the rules that you set for them. And now is the time to revise those rules in a truly radical way. In this process, it’s essential that you use words to express yourself. I recognize that words are not perfect and cannot express anything perfectly, but what they offer is evidence of your thought process. They allow you to track the evolution of your ideas about yourself. Your ideas manifest in a way that you can review the next day, share with others, or state as a tangible vision. Words can be edited, which means revised — which means you get to re-vision yourself with each successive draft. Words are images. Words are maps. And they hold the power of healing for you.

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — For months the theme of self-esteem and money has been dancing around the charts, and it’s about to dance its way over to Pisces. This month’s astrology describes a revolutionary turn of fortune, as if you finally make contact with your real financial power. There is an inventive quality to this, and the thing to remember about any process of invention is that it involves experimentation until you get to the breakthrough point. Therefore, don’t be discouraged by any past ‘failures’ — they were the necessary ground to tread, an initiation process, to get you to where you are today. Indeed, it would seem the only thing that could stop you is the conscious choice to give up, and fortunately there are other factors in your chart that are leading you forward with a real sense of adventure. Adventure is not a trip to Disney World. It’s this unpredictable kind of thing, with ups and downs and challenges and a sense of independence — a sense of quest, with an unknown destination — and that’s exactly where you are right now. Just remember that your financial liberation is an essential element of the story, part of which includes exploring, and reminding yourself just how radical your values really are. There is a direct relationship between that and whatever you define as success. If you want a working definition of self-esteem as the concept applies to you, there you have it.

Eric Francis Sex By Sign #9: Week of Sept. 19th

Autumn Equinox, New Moon and Fiery Last Days of Summer

Dear Friend and Reader:

These last days of Northern Hemisphere summer arrive with a potent aspect — Mars square Neptune. This is the one that says “make sure you can tell fantasy from reality.” I covered this in the most recent edition of my subscriber newsletter, which you can see here.

After going to press last night, I realized I didn’t cover the sexual dimension of this aspect, which is pretty darned interesting. Nowhere in life is the concept of fantasy, and its connection to what one might actually do, so vital as the realm of sexuality.  Most sex happens in fantasy. Most of that fantasy does not quite match up with what happens in physical time and space — though many people want it to.

Mars square Neptune allows or enables you to bend or blur the line between fantasy and reality. This must be done carefully, because it’s a special kind of power, though now is a time when the line is especially soft. You can use that, starting in the realm of the imagination (keeping it hot and risqué) and then guiding your experiences into manifestation.

That aspect is exact Sunday. Monday the Sun ingresses Libra, the sign of relationships, balance and beauty. That is a shift of energy on many fronts, including a change of seasons, of signs and also of the Sun’s hemisphere — a major turning point in the year.

That’s followed by the Libra New Moon about 36 hours later, which will give the equinox/Libra energy a push. I know that Scorpio is supposedly the sign of sex, though an author named Alice Bailey, who wrote only one book on astrology — very compelling, at that — tells astrology students that if you want to understand sex, understand Libra.

I’ll be covering this on my new webcast scheduled to run Tuesday at Planet Waves FM. You can also listen to the current edition (and archives) there as well, no charge, no credit card — open to everyone.

Here is your Sex By Sign horoscope for this week.

w/love, your astrologer,
Eric Francis

ARIES - SEX BY SIGN ERIC FRANCISARIES (March 20-April 19)
Does sex exist first to make babies, or does it exist to celebrate life and pleasure, and also make babies? Well it all depends on who you ask. If you ask some religious authority, they will likely tell you it’s about kids and only kids. There is another story, which is that sex is an experience of our core humanity — and new kids occasionally come along for the ride, so to speak.

TAURUS Sex in Signs by Eric FrancisTAURUS (April 19-May 20)
Obsession over sexual health and STIs is not necessarily helpful. It’s important to have some consciousness about this, though test results are not the end-all of the issue. Test results can be meaningful, but more important is assessing someone’s self-care, whether they maintain their immune system, whether they are honest and most of all getting a feeling for what kinds of risks they are inclined to take — in the future, when it matters most.

GEMINI Sex by Signs Eric FrancisGEMINI (May 20-June 21)
Stoke your curiosity and feel what direction it’s pulling you in. That’s the direction to go, the one that feels a little unfamiliar but somehow necessary and drawing you into the vortex. You don’t need to be self-protective or defensive; you don’t need any strategy other than paying attention and having fun. Oh, and you don’t need to be the prettiest or most beautiful — you are more than beautiful enough as you are, and competition will ruin the fun.

CANCER Sex by Signs Eric Francis CANCER (June 21-July 22)
Sex is not all about security and pregnancy is not a path to security. It may be the furthest thing from your mind right now, though to be fair we would need to assess any seemingly unconscious motives you might have. You stand on solid ground with yourself. Indeed your ‘ground of being’ is so solid that you would be wise to go deeper into it and investigate what is there — and find out how secure you really are.

LEO Sex by Sign GLYDE by Eric FrancisLEO (July 22-Aug. 23)
Don’t get lost in words. Skip the PowerPoint proposal with classical music and take bold action on your desires. They are likely to include sex and some favorite creative mode you have, both of which you may feel inclined to overindulge in. That’s the spirit of the moment — a little excess, however, with a caveat about avoiding known self-destructive options. You need to feed some deep desires, and you now have the opening to do that well.

VIRGO Sex by Signs GLYDE Eric FrancisVIRGO (Aug. 23-Sep. 22)
It cannot be said often enough that all love starts with selflove. All relationships start with your relationship to yourself. All sex originates with masturbation, which is your inner erotic feedback loop. You can now bring all of these ideas together into one experience. Far from making you narcissistic or self-centered, getting into that space and exploring there will likely take you into a mode where all you want is to share the feeling with others.

LIBRA Sex by Signs Eric Francis GLYDELIBRA (Sept. 22-Oct. 23)
You can get what you want. And you can get it without sucking up to anyone, or reverting to any form of ‘daddy pleasing’. Be direct and be bold — along with being clear and polite. People will respect you more if you stand your full height, though be aware that the view of humanity is different from that level. Keep a keen eye out for the self-destructive tendencies of others, and your own. They are a trap.

SCORPIO Sex by Signs Eric Francis for GLYDESCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 22)
Ask yourself what aspects of your sexuality are creative, and which are self-destructive. Many people have tendencies that they know hurt them but which seem to feel good — such as sex with someone who they know in their heart is not the right person to be connecting with. Yet those energy bonds can run deep. Look honestly at how you feel after any encounter, and that will help you make up your mind about what is good for you.

SAGITTARIUS Sex by Sign Eric Francis GLYDESAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 22)
Your desire is a magnet, and you don’t need to do much, or assert yourself, if you want to draw people to you. Be your friendly self and watch who notices you. Listen for who is capable of spontaneous honesty. Be aware that your need for sex is being driven by an unusually emotional state right now. You are not looking for anything ordinary. You are looking for something truly unusual — and real.

CAPRICORN Sex by Sign Eric Francis for GLYDECAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 20)
Your fantasies might be churning right now, filled with all kinds of cryptic adventures, inappropriate people, unusual places and odd encounters. It’s a good thing that this is all going on in your imagination, though I am an advocate of bringing even the wildest fantasies into physical form. I would remind you that this week you have a spotlight shining on you; you won’t be able to keep a secret.

AQUARIUS Sex by Sign ERic Francis for GLYDEAQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 19)
If you’re not ordinarily the type to be extroverted about your sexual desires, intentions and theories, now is the time to experiment. You will learn all kinds of things, you will see many reactions, and you’ll experience some praise and some judgment. Think of all you would not have learned, had you not opened up and let everyone know what is on your mind. As for who you meet — that will be even more interesting.

PISCES Sex by Sign by Eric Francis for GLYDEPISCES (Feb. 19-March 20)
The Sun and Moon enter your house of The Sex You Want, which for you is so essential to relationships as to be the same concept. In fact it would be wise to have no relationships in your life that are not at least supportive of your sexual freedom and also acknowledging its depth of importance in your life. Yet the person or people with whom this matters the most are the ones you honor by calling lover.
