Oil, emulsion, acrylic, shellac, silver leaf, iron wire and burned books - the elements Anselm Kiefer used to create Clairière / Lichtung / Clearing, a 94.5 x 67 inch painting currently on display in Paris's Bibliothèque François Mitterand.  Kiefer transforms heavy memories of Nazi Germany, Heidegger's philosophy of questioning your own history in order to be fully yourself, and some purifying fire, into art.
