Planet Waves Weekly Horoscope for Feb. 18, 2016, #1088 | By Len Wallick
Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — You are in a position to prove that fresh starts can be made as well as found. In your case, the best approach is to be creative like a jazz soloist. Begin with a simple, appealing idea that flows naturally from where you have been. Then, develop the idea gradually, one easy step at a time. Don’t rush things. Rather, emphasize a sustainable rhythm. Neither should you over-extend yourself. Instead, know your limits and work within them. Most of all, relax. It’s not necessary to squeeze juice out of yourself. Nor is there a finish line to hasten towards. So long as you feel inspired and enthusiastic, what comes forth from within you will serve both to please and to sustain you. While perspiration has its place, let inspiration have its day for the time being. — by Len Wallick.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — In recent months your hard work has amounted to something, and for good reason. In addition to effort, your big heart and rich soul have enhanced the quality of your endeavors. As a result, your working relationships have been strengthened and you have developed something of a new and improved reputation within your immediate circle. Now, you may want to consider how to widen your circle of both peers and supporters. This is not necessarily about seeking fame or fortune, although it would not be surprising if some exaltation and reward did accrue in due course. What you should focus on at this time is that you have something worthy of sharing with and showing to a wider audience. Presently they are waiting with a need only you will be able to fill. — by Len Wallick.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Don’t be intimidated if something looks like it’s going to take a lot of work. An energetic challenge is exactly the situation you want. Whether you are faced with restoring something tangible or developing a skill from scratch, throw yourself into whatever effort presents itself to you. Go at your most difficult tasks like there is no tomorrow, and you’ll soon find yourself the beneficiary of some very gratifying fringe benefits. Among the gains that acting industriously will probably incur for you is a greater sense of wellbeing, both physically and financially. In addition, the harder you work in the short run, the more likely you will find ways to save labor in the long run. Last, but not least, those to whom you lend your hands will ultimately offer their hearts in return. — by Len Wallick.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Attend to your health. Even if you are feeling hale and hearty enough, look to improve your physical wellbeing even further. Good times are coming and you will want to be able to enjoy them to the fullest. Place a special emphasis on eliminating any bad habits before they take a perceptible toll. Think of yourself as an athlete going into training in preparation for a successful new season of competition, and you will be on the right track. There will be no need to put yourself through any pain or strain. Rather, realize that you are special rather than ordinary, and treat yourself that way. Sleep well. Eat well. Live well, and make yourself an example of wellness so that you can do the very best with whatever is about to bless you. — by Len Wallick.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Envy does not become you. Don’t let a desire for what others possess bring you down at a time when you should be lifting yourself up. In your lion heart, you understand fully that quality of character is a greater asset than anything that is measured by quantity. Intellectually you also know that the goods of the material world do not remain in any one place for long. Tangible wealth is not intrinsically evil, but being consumed by an obsession to acquire and accumulate riches can lead to no good. Have faith that the intangible values you have been so faithfully cultivating in yourself for so long will bring you all you need of this world sooner rather than later — without your having to sacrifice what no amount of money can ever buy back. — by Len Wallick.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Some of the long labors you so lovingly, selflessly and courageously chose to take on so long ago are finally nearing their completion. You have done well, but you should not allow yourself to be exclusively defined by what you have almost finished. There is more to you than you have been able to show, and the time for some of it to be shown has finally come. There is more in this world for you to do, and at least some of it should be for yourself. Whatever your good conscience has dictated that you put off deserves another look. More to the point, you deserve at long last to receive as much as you have given. This is no time to doubt your worthiness. Let yourself enjoy the good karma you have accumulated, without thinking yourself selfish or vain. — by Len Wallick.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Before yielding to impatience and impulsiveness by making big changes in your life, give small adjustments a chance first. It could very well be that a little tweak here and a small toggle there will get the results you want, without the unintended consequences that often come with a huge shakeup. You have lived long enough to know that a sense of proportion is important. You have sufficient experience with life to have acquired some perspective. Therefore, trust your hard-earned wisdom and give moderation a chance to succeed. If it turns out that only big changes will do, the option to make them will almost certainly remain available should smaller and less disruptive actions not succeed in making your life what you want it to be. — by Len Wallick.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Whether you know it or not, you currently enjoy a deep and intimate connection with the entire Universe. This bond you have with all that is has not come about by accident. You have been doing something (likely a lot of things) right for a long time. As a matter of fact, the only way you can break the cosmically energetic ties you have forged is by overreaction. For this reason, it is now important to be especially aware of what triggers might cause you to lose your temper and act rashly as result. With awareness and some practice, you can build on and strengthen your connections in the world, channeling whatever fires you up into something constructive. By doing so, you prove you are a master of the fire within that animates you, rather than the other way around. — by Len Wallick.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — If you have a home, take good care of it. Show your appreciation for both the places and people with whom you find comfort and safety. It is no small thing to have a place of your own in this world, and if you are lucky enough to be among those who do, be present to your good fortune. If you either do not feel at home where you are, or do not happen to desire at present to put down roots, note within yourself all that is worthy of shelter and care. Then honor that worthiness in everything you do, by taking the best care of yourself you possibly can. If you care for whatever you do have, and whatever you most deeply value, you will be bringing a sense of ‘home’ to wherever you are. At the same time, you’ll likely also attract what amounts to better residential and relational circumstances than ever before. — by Len Wallick.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — You have demonstrated a better ability to make and keep commitments to others than you probably give yourself credit for. Just because others have not always been satisfied with what you have done does not mean your efforts have been anything less than satisfactory. As a matter of fact, the time is nigh to make and keep some commitments to satisfy yourself as well as others. Begin with a determination to do what makes you stronger and better able to live the long and prosperous life you deserve. While you need not (indeed, should not) neglect pleasing yourself, it’s now appropriate to do so with discretion. Look beyond indulgences that please only for the short run; keep your eye on benefits that will last. — by Len Wallick.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — This is a rare and special moment for you to make a good impression on both new acquaintances and familiar friends. It is important, however, to do so in such a way as to not spread yourself thin or wear yourself out. Do only what you can with what you have to work with. Do not dwell on what your available time and energy will not allow you to get done. If others do not understand that you cannot possibly please everybody, let that be their problem. Indeed, take heart in the fact that what you offer is valuable enough to be in as much demand as it is. So long as you can go to sleep every night knowing that you have done your best without doing yourself in, let that be enough. — by Len Wallick.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Let the love shine in so that it may also shine out. For every person who takes exception to what is authentically and genuinely you, there are sure to be at least two (and probably more) who want to express their attraction for what you have made yourself to be. For anybody with functional eyes and ears, it should be clear that you, more than most people, have found a way to be true to both yourself and your personal aspirations. That is no small accomplishment, and you need not waste your energy defending yourself against those who are either too blind to perceive what they are looking at, or too deaf to understand what they are hearing. Rather, devote that energy to returning all the affection you deservedly receive. — by Len Wallick.

A Little Cooperation

“One who does not compete does not meet competition.”
— Lao Tsu

If there is one trend that seems prevalent in the world at this time, you might say that it’s the prevalence of contests, competition and controversy. It’s not just in the U.S., either (where a testy Super Bowl has segued into a divisive presidential race as college basketball gears up for heated “March Madness” playoffs).

len-wallick-logo

Neither is the trend entirely bad. It’s probably a good thing, for example, that what amounts to an awards season for the entertainment industry has been infused with intense discussions of prejudice and privilege.

For the most part, however, there seems to be a growing rash of destructive political, economic and sectarian clashes all over the world at every level of engagement. If there is one common thread in all of those conflicts, it’s that the idea of cooperation as a viable alternative seems to have been all forgotten.

This is where you come in. You can serve as an example to prove that one person can make a difference. In addition, you can also help others to remember how all of us are essentially in the same boat when it comes to the most vital necessities of life.

In order to make a difference and be instructive for others you need not accomplish great things. All you have to do is offer a little cooperation whenever it is possible to do so, without putting yourself or others in danger or undue distress. If the situation is not life-or-death, consider the advantages of going along. Unless your very existence is at stake, think about how simply applying yourself to live and let live might help you better get along. Instead of an us-or-them perspective, try looking for the best outcome for everybody involved.

If there is anything to the astrology, the ingress of Venus into Aquarius at about 11:17 pm EST this evening (04:16:55 UTC Wednesday) would appear to support a little cooperation. That’s because Aquarius is more concerned with groups than individuals, and Venus is (among other things) focused on values.

At its best, then, the merger of collective concerns and estimable merits that Venus in Aquarius represents could very well result in the very possible (but often overlooked) result of everybody winning and coming out ahead together.

Of course, in a world where so many are caught up in a rat race on the ground, the sky can have no influence. By the same token, possible downsides of Aquarius (groups that define themselves by who they exclude) and Venus (“pointless accretion,” in the words of Robert Hand) can win the day if enough people choose to be uncooperative. But the upside is equally and just as easily possible without suffering or sacrifice.

Indeed, there are what appear to be overlooked advantages to contributing a little cooperation in the world. Imagine going through a whole day where nobody disagrees with you because you give them nothing to disagree with. Think about how wonderful it would feel to go through a whole week without unnecessary conflict because you offer none.

Once again, the tenure of Venus in Aquarius (until March 12) does not require that you be pushed around. It’s only an invitation for you to push others a little less, and pull along with others a little more. For if there is only one thing you can do to make the world a better place than it is right now, it would be a little cooperation where there was none before.

Making Changes

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world.”
— Margaret Mead

We have another round of changes on tap in the sky beginning this weekend and going into next week. On the whole, the impending celestial modulations evoke what would and would not be your best choices for proactively making some meaningful change in the world.

len-wallick-logo

The first thing to remember is that waiting for the world to change is the equivalent of withdrawing from participation. In general, if you want to have the privilege of negotiating the nature of modifications being made, you must first be participating in making them.

The next essential to keep in mind is a key word in the captioned Margaret Mead quote: “thoughtful.” Being thoughtless will not win the type friends or influence the type of people you need to have in support.

In addition, it helps to be in the right (not necessarily on the right) if you wish to enlist allies in their right minds with their hearts in the right place. Those who use the threat of violent force up front pretty much exclude themselves from the category of those who are in the right. The recent episode of armed vigilantes seeking to annex public land in rural Oregon is but one example. Most of the local residents were not big fans of the U.S. federal government in the first place. Even so, a group of would-be cowboys who came in brandishing weapons and spouting belligerence did not exactly inspire widespread love and devotion outside of their own previously convinced political clique.

What’s more, most of us are not going to make much progress changing the world on our own. In addition to being proactive, thoughtful and non-violent, it is essential to work with a commitment to cooperation, mutual respect and harmony with others in order to both inspire and achieve modifications that everybody concerned can live with.

Finally, all change must begin inside the individual. You have to begin with the attachments and conditioning that adhere you to what your conscience recognizes as wrong and pernicious. It is not an easy undertaking to change yourself, but it is often an essential prerequisite to making change in the world as a whole.

Interestingly, the astrology over the next week or so contains many a symbolic reference to the long and involved process that represents a road to meaningful change. Unlike what some are inclined to do, the sky does not wait. There is no stasis above. Changes are constantly made as a matter of due course.

Foremost among the astrological changes coming up are several objects about to change sign: Mercury (the thoughtful), Venus (values) and the Sun (emblematic of consciousness). Interestingly, all three are inside of Earth’s orbit, thus representing the requisite internal changes that must come first.

Both Mercury and Venus are currently in Capricorn (the sign of institutions) and on their way into Aquarius (the sign of groups in general, and your groups of choice in particular). Mercury makes its second ingress (post-retrograde) to Aquarius tomorrow. Venus follows on Tuesday.

The Sun, for its part, is on the way out of Aquarius and heading for Pisces — where the ironic separation invoked by disparate groups is transcended to be proactively ‘one with’ — on Friday (or Thursday, depending on time zone).

In the meantime, the rest of the solar system other than the Moon is moving slowly — too slow to wait. That’s how things stack up for the next week or so, and if you are looking for a sign you have one. Look to get your own life into an order that no longer reflects the external order you no longer identify with. Then, begin making plans to cast your lot with others who want something besides a different person behind the gun.

Moonshine Horoscope for Aquarius New Moon

Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Let comfort be your guide. Offer comfort to others. As odd as it might seem for a person of action like yourself to make comfort your cause and objective, it’s not really inconsistent. You know from experience how important it is to make a good start in any endeavor. That’s especially true if the endeavor is a cooperative effort. To ensure that any common enterprise you are currently initiating (and maybe even leading) may be successful, do your expected part and then something more. Work to keep yourself and everybody involved feeling content with their role and confident of what anybody would define as success, and your extra effort will pay off. — by Len Wallick.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — There is no doubt that you are going places, probably faster than you think. Unlike some subatomic particles, however, you cannot simply leap ahead to where you are going without passing in between. On your way towards your future, you will be interacting with others. Those interactions will leave lasting impressions, which, sooner or later, will catch up with you no matter how fast you are progressing now. Therefore it is important to emphasize the quality of your journey at least as much as reaching your destination. Exercise care so that everybody you meet on your daily way will be a willing and enthusiastic part of your support network when you finally have it made. — by Len Wallick.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Anything unsatisfactory about the recent past can very soon be behind you if you release any attachments you have formed to what is now done. Breakthroughs are up ahead, if you place yourself in a position to make them. One way to get yourself through what might previously have felt like a ceiling is to find the real-world equivalent of a stairwell, escalator, or elevator. Going back to school is one option to consider. Travel is another potential way to expand your horizons. Neither should you limit yourself to making your breakthroughs alone. There could very well be a crew of some sort not only going your way, but also looking for somebody just like you to complete their number. — by Len Wallick.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Give yourself a pat on the back for anything you have recently completed in spite of delays or detours. Then, take a look at your hard-won achievement and try to see it as a beginning. Think of yourself as having laid a foundation rather than having completed a structure, and you will be giving yourself a brighter and more stimulating future than you can currently imagine. The key is to start building on that foundation immediately. Part of the construction will involve offering to share the fruits of completion with others. It is by showing the value of your achievements to those around you that you will come to realize the potential you have cultivated in yourself while simply trying to get something done. — by Len Wallick.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — It’s possible to make friends nearly anywhere. It’s probable that there is at least one area of your life where you have overlooked the possibility of forging bonds or developing relationships — maybe at work; perhaps at school. Could be your admirable ethic of applying yourself with a determined purpose towards attaining your goals is preventing you from seeing what only society with colleagues can offer. It is good to develop yourself to your maximum potential, but no person is an island. When it seems appropriate, don’t hesitate to start conversations, or even to ask for help. While friendship may sometimes include sharing frivolity, it is not frivolous. Create connections. — by Len Wallick.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You are appreciated more than you know. You are more respected than you think. While those who really, truly do hold you in high regard may have recently fallen short in demonstrating their esteem, don’t be offended. You are not being disregarded. Even if those who are indebted to you have not followed through by showing their gratitude, don’t be upset with them. You are not being taken for granted. The recognition you deserve and the acknowledgement you have coming will accrue with interest in due time. In the meantime, show that you both respect and appreciate yourself by taking care of your health, appearance and welfare so as to set an example of maturity. — by Len Wallick.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — There is a difference between gambling and managing risk. No matter how much skill is involved, gambling still leaves things mostly to chance. The essence of risk management, on the other hand, is to leave as little as possible to chance. Gambling is ultimately recreational, and one should only invest what one can be resigned and willing to lose. By comparison, risk management is occupational, with a realistic and achievable intent to realize gain. Indications are that you should eschew gambling for the time being and manage risk instead. You have a gift for finding a way to gain where others only see a potential for loss. For you, the time to begin employing that gift has come. — by Len Wallick.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — For the foreseeable future, consider exhibiting the functional upside of the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. This does not necessarily mean you should be chasing down criminals or combating villainy. Leave that to the police. Neither does it entail exhibiting the eccentricities of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous character. Leave that to actors. Rather, you may find this to be a particularly advantageous time for you to first observe everything carefully and in detail, wherever you go and whatever you are doing. Don’t look for anything in particular at first. Simply be very aware and retain what you note. Then, detect. It is likely that everything you need to know at this time is hidden only by inattention. — by Len Wallick.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Your generosity is a strength. Your magnanimity is an asset. Don’t let any pressure currently originating from outside of you depreciate what you bring to your immediate environment. Neither should you allow any pressure you are putting on yourself to do anything other than motivate you to do and be better. There is no reason to judge yourself harshly for not being perfect. A diamond in the rough is still a diamond. The same applies to you. You are already a precious jewel. Just because you are currently in the process of enhancing your value in the world should not detract from what you intrinsically already are to those who know and love you — ideally including you. — by Len Wallick.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Doors are opening for you in proportion to how much you have been knocking. You know this is true. You have evidence that your efforts do get results. Once those doors open, however, the effort need not stop. There are portals beyond where you think you can enter, and you can find them if you persevere with patience. While it is very possible that applying yourself persistently can lead to rapid advancement soon, don’t allow yourself to be discouraged if results accrue in a slow and steady manner. When big things are showing little progress, attend to one small thing in particular — your morale. The luckiest person in the world is usually the one who considers her or himself to be most fortunate. Keep knocking.
— by Len Wallick.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Rain is good. Just ask anybody living through a drought. Yet, rainy days have a bad reputation they do not deserve. Now is an excellent time to look at what some commonly disparaged life circumstances might mean to you were they yours to live. It would also be a good idea to understand what others might find enviable about your circumstances now. This means more than counting your blessings — though that would not be a bad idea. Beyond living in gratitude, you might also want to reconsider some life options that you have disregarded or dismissed in the past. It could very well be that some of those options will soon become not only available, but also highly desirable. — by Len Wallick.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Golf is a game within a game. All of the mindsets, reflexes, postures, practices, disciplines and tools that combine to get you from the tee to the green within the requisite number of strokes are no longer of any value once it is time for you to putt. Upon occasion, life can be like golf in that way. Indications are that this may be just such a time for you. It could very well be that you have successfully made it to the point where you need to change the strategies, methods and tactics that have propelled you this far. In order to follow through and complete your triumph-in-the-making, consider how a delicate approach to circumstances might be more appropriate than striking with all your might. — by Len Wallick.

Everyday Miracle

Renewal of days through Earth’s rotation is an everyday miracle, as are the other cycles of life. Now that the Moon is moving towards renewed visibility in Pisces, and now that the Sun has passed the mid-point of a season once again, it’s appropriate to honor just such miracles.

len-wallick-logo

Some will be celebrating this point in Earthly cycles joyously today. Others will be observing with solemnity. Perhaps the most important thing, however, is to acknowledge your part in it all.

Unless you live in a hermetically sealed space, everything you do makes a difference. Furthermore, the difference reliably shows in one way or the other, sooner or later.

For the most part, the difference you make has been for your own good, or you would not be here to read these words. There is also little doubt that you have made a crucial difference for the better in the lives of many others. In other words, you participate in keeping the cycles going. One question, however, is whether you give yourself enough credit for the good you do.

If there is anything indicated by the sum total of the astrology this week, it’s that you are a special kind of everyday miracle. Rather than just being an exhibition of the world’s reliably repeating cycles, you are something more. You have free will. With your free will you make choices. Over time those choices reliably add up to form your character. The nature of your character (and not your astrology) adds up to be the single greatest determinant of what your life is like.

No planet has as much power over your life as you do. What’s more, simply acknowledging that simple, grounded fact is probably one of the best ways you can be in the flow of the astrology this week.

One aspect that symbolizes the currently appropriate nature of just such a confession of your effect in the world is the earth trine from Venus in Capricorn to retrograde Jupiter, 120 degrees away in Virgo, which will be exact tomorrow (and is functional today).

Among other things, trine aspects represent the type of flow that efficiently brings things together by almost effortlessly overcoming distance and difficulty. Since ancient times, for example, people have known that travel by water is frequently easier and faster than travel over land.

Such manifestations of flow represent much of the attractive quality of a trine for astrologers; and there is nothing like an earth-sign trine to indicate a suitable time to be grounded in what flows from and for you, through the everyday miracle of your existence.

So here’s to you, with a sincere appreciation for what you are. Here also is an earnest wish: that you will come to realize (make real) more than ever before just how worthy, powerful and amazing you are as this week progresses. Whether greater or lesser, the lights in the sky have got nothing on you.

Mars Needs You

Sometimes astrology is as obvious as a pointing finger. Of course, there is a good reason that many consider pointing fingers (whether literally or metaphorically) to be impolite. It’s an aggressive act that represents a downside of the creative energy which contributes to make life possible in the first place.

len-wallick-logo

Among the energies which, at their best, play what could be called a sacred role by helping to sustain and continue the cycle of life on Earth is that symbolized in by Mars.

In the words of Robert Hand, Mars “… rules the energy that an individual uses to maintain himself in the face of pressures from his environment.” In other words, with their best application, the earthly manifestations of Mars are good and healthy.

Just as with anything in astrology, however, there can also be a downside to Mars. Again referring to Robert Hand: “… if the energies of Mars are allowed to operate to excess, its effects can be quite difficult.”

That’s where you come in. You can do your part to keep us all on the upside of Mars by applying your energies to affirm life and creativity. Admittedly, it’s not easy given that there are a lot of bad examples in the world.

There are political candidates who bully reporters. Other candidates will do anything, no matter how underhanded, in order to win. Nearly everywhere you look, people (often, and unfortunately, people conferred with authority) are pointing fingers and humiliating others when they should be looking at themselves. As a matter of fact, it’s so easy to skim the news headlines and find examples of Mars operating to excess that you might be tempted towards discouragement.

You need not be discouraged. You do not have to be among the finger pointers. You can act with the divine and just energy of Mars to offset those who abuse it. You can look to excellent examples (like Eric’s lead article in the weekly edition published here yesterday) to stand up for what’s right, and keep going in spite of the bastards whose inappropriate aggression might otherwise get you down.

To begin with, believe in yourself. Refuse to be humiliated when the fickle finger is pointed at you. You know you are a good person who represents the upside of humanity. Do not let anybody tell you otherwise.

Even more to the point, come to the aid of your brothers and sisters with encouragement and validation of their right to live with dignity.

In other words, Mars needs you. You can do your part to turn things around. If the astrology of the upcoming New Moon in Aquarius is any indication, the turning point is presenting itself right about now.

Without getting all technical on you, when the Sun and Moon come together at 19+ Aquarius just before 9:39 am EST (14:38:52 UTC) on Monday, they will be part of a holistic configuration emblematically pointing the way towards the redemption of Mars and the affirmation of precious life. It is for you to follow. And yes, so long as you breathe, you will have what it takes.

Planet Waves Weekly Horoscope for Feb. 4, 2016, #1086 | By Len Wallick
Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — If there is anything that recent years may have taught you, it’s an appreciation for both the specific and the complex. You are better able to ascertain the unique nature of each individual person, place or situation in your life. You understand more about how to perceive and respond to what’s unique about now, rather than reacting to the present as if it is the past. Most of all, you have evolved to better comprehend the importance of subtlety and nuance. For the most part, you have applied your acquired sensibilities towards improving both your creativity and productivity. To some extent you have also brought your more advanced personal skills to individual relationships. Now, you are finally ready to cross another threshold and establish yourself as both more widely influential and more universally respected. As you proceed to take a more responsible place among your peers, simply remember that the example you set will be far more important than the results you seek. — by Len Wallick.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — When you are driving up a mountain highway, looking only through the windshield does not fully convey how steep the road is. A glimpse in the rearview mirror, on the other hand, really helps you to grasp how far you have climbed. Such is probably your situation now. If you focus only on what’s ahead, you will miss out on the gratification of knowing just how much progress you have made in recent months, even since last year. Your energies have not been wasted. You are receiving a return on your efforts, in the form of greater and more assured proficiencies in the areas where you have been applying yourself the most. You owe it to yourself to see that. In order to do so, however, you will have to pause, and look back as well as forward to really take it all in. You need not be concerned about falling behind. In some sense you are now far enough ahead of schedule to pull over and park to take in the scenery. It will take your breath away, and pick up your spirits too. — by Len Wallick.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — If you are feeling an itch of some sort, it’s probably because you need to move on in some way. It could be a relationship situation. Or perhaps you’ve just worn a rut into whatever you have been focused on manifesting. Either way, it’s more a matter of how you move on than whether or not you should. No wise sailor, for example, needlessly cuts the rope or breaks the chain to an anchor. Rather, the anchor is raised and converted to ballast so that restored mobility will also be more stable. Additionally, the time will inevitably come when that anchor will need to be dropped again. The same almost certainly goes for you. Rather than needlessly abandoning what has served to keep you in a particular place, seek first to change its role — from holding you fast, to keeping you steady and on an even keel. After all, life is big. There is potentially room enough in your life to contain both the old and the new, even if it means you need to expand your heart as well as your horizons. — by Len Wallick.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — You have been the underdog long enough. It’s nearing time for you to lead the pack once again. The main thing to remember is that your strength is in the resources you share with those you would lead. Foremost among those resources is what the heart has to offer. Some medical scientists now believe what many — from loyal canines to passionate poets — have long known: that the heart has a consciousness of its own. What’s more, as any being with feelings would intuit, the sentience of the heart does not function (or even exist) apart from that of the brain. Rather, the feeling heart is necessarily inseparable from the calculating mind. So it can be with you and those with whom you cast your lot. You have the unique ability to be the heart wherever and whenever two or more gather in the name of each other, and it is precisely that talent which keeps comrades together. Let others be the brains of the outfit if it comes to that. Intellect can inform, but only heart can inspire others to follow. — by Len Wallick.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — It wasn’t that long ago that you were a child who could have a ball without the need for anything other your own imagination. With time, childhood passed and you became an adult with different needs. Among the most prominent imperatives that come with adulthood is the attraction of intimate relationship. It is not absolutely necessary to have a committed partner to have a happy and productive life. Nonetheless, the ability to share both burdens and joys with another can and often does contribute to making life a lot easier and more gratifying. As you well know, however, a toxic or unequal relationship can take life the other way, into drudgery and misery. Perhaps it is the downside of a close relationship that has had you working on improving yourself for so long? Now, you might want to consider whether it’s time to put that good work of yours to use, and apply yourself to improving existing relationships — or forming new partnerships that are even sounder than those you have previously known. — by Len Wallick.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Adolescence is probably when you started spending less time with your parents and more time with those of your own age, with whom you would potentially live the rest of your life. It was probably an awkward, occasionally even painful, period full of trial and error, as you learned to navigate the narrow way between conformity and individuation. Even so, the time span between your childhood and full physical maturity almost certainly yielded some valuable lessons and important skills, which serve you well to this day. As a matter of fact, it’s distinctly possible that the months following your most recent birthday have brought something more than just an appreciation for what your “tween” and “teen” years yielded. You may very well feel that you are, in some updated way, going through your adolescence again. If that is the case for you, don’t worry. History rarely repeats, but it does tend to rhyme; so, you have reason to rejoice. You are not regressing; you are progressing and perceiving your most recent advances through the lens of the last time you grew so much so quickly. — by Len Wallick.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — How long has it been since you have had some real fun? Not distraction. Not disruption either, but actual delight? More to the point, how long has it been since you have been perceived by others as fun to live, work or hang out with? If your answer to those questions is, “too long,” now would be a good time to begin thinking about how to make life more fun for both yourself and those you know and care about. You will not have to spend a lot of money to restore levity to life. Instead, spend time understanding what fun means to others. Start off by taking the time to share a smile with everybody. That will open some doors and even possibly some hearts. Then, devote additional time toward encouraging others (who show they are willing) to share their enthusiasms with you. Finally, set aside sufficient time to pursue enough of those shared enthusiasms to find newly common ground in the unlikely cauldron of sheer frivolity. Fun is better when offered rather than taken, and best when exchanged as a common value. — by Len Wallick.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Life is too short to keep yours to yourself. That’s especially true now, when you are capable of being even more attractive than usual. To increase your allure, however, you will have to withdraw less and open up more. It will probably feel risky, but if you can widen your social circle while simultaneously being more expressive of your needs, the results could make you wonder why you ever even thought to hide yourself away. Believe it or not, there are others who would just love to express their attraction to you by offering to help you either find relief or attain gratification, if only they knew how. In other words, it will not be necessary to assert or demand when it comes to having your needs met; it will simply be a matter of putting yourself out there, both literally and metaphorically. The chance you now have to receive appreciation is an opportunity that few will ever know. All you have to do to get what you have coming is to pull away from your comfort zone and show up as you are. — by Len Wallick.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — What you have been searching for is probably in your immediate vicinity. No kidding. Instead of coming over the horizon, what you have been longing for is most likely in plain sight among the living beings and inanimate objects you encounter every day. It is not so much that you have to look further. Rather, you need to see better. What there is no need for is getting down on yourself. Part of being a human being is accepting that you cannot and will not ever be perfect. Yet, it is possible to understand and work with your imperfections, including those that have to do with not always perceiving and appreciating what is within easy reach. Indeed, the fact that you are now overlooking something or somebody already there for you is reason to feel good about yourself; because the next step — actually realizing the value of what you already have — is a step you will never again forget how to take. Therefore, do not think of yourself as one who is about to stumble across anything. In a very real way, you are about to rise to it. — by Len Wallick.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Any dissatisfaction or lack you now feel might not, in fact, correlate with something lacking in your life. Rather, you may be sensing that there is something more you can do with your life. There is a difference, and it does not mean you have to change the plans you have already developed and put in motion. By all means, do follow through and complete what you have started. Once you have settled into your new situation, however, look to do yourself one better by setting aspirations that go further than being happier with your lot. Go beyond simply confronting challenges that come your way in due course. Create a challenge you can own. Specifically, look to manifest something you have probably been thinking about (but not acting on) for quite a while now. It will have to do with the reason so many people have been looking up to you, even as you have been looking down on yourself. It will mean seeking out greater responsibility and convincing others that you are ready to make the most of it. But first you must convince yourself that you are ready to call some shots rather than take them. — by Len Wallick.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — If you had to choose between power, wisdom and pleasure, which would you pick? There is no denying that there is nothing quite as pleasing as pleasure. Nonetheless, is it really your purpose in life just to please yourself? Neither is power anything to be sneezed at. In practice, power can bring you all the pleasure you can handle, in addition to its many other fringe benefits. Even so, would you really be fulfilled by simply having your way with everything all the time? Wisdom, on the other hand, is neither exclusively gratifying nor entirely self-serving. Being wise, at its most fundamental, includes making the right choices at the right time for everybody involved, even if those decisions require postponing personal pleasure or giving up personal power. Therefore, preferring wisdom over pleasure and power could, in many ways, be the least desirable selection of all — but only if desire is your be-all, end-all. Should you sense that there is something about you that transcends your desires, take your pleasure where you find it and accept power responsibly, but make the acquisition of wisdom your ultimate goal. — by Len Wallick.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Monday’s Aquarius New Moon offers you unusual insight into your own inner workings, as if you can peer into your unconscious mind. If you can do that, it must be something other than unconscious — awareness is a choice, though sometimes it rises like the tide. And this tide will indeed lift all ships, as you clear away beliefs that have outdone their use. This will open the way to your making contact with new communities, new friends, and new possibilities. Most of your astrology is focused on your vocational activities, and how working toward your goals is bringing out the best in you. That still holds, perhaps more than ever. Yet now your social sphere merges with your creative ambitions in an especially potent way. It’s true that the world has grown stuffier, more resistant to change and more prone to obsessing over appearances. You get to go beyond all of that, as if it’s your personal destiny. It isn’t really; you are choosing to follow an inner calling, and you have things to do and things to say — and the time is ripe. — by Eric Francis.

Divergence and Convergence

This is a fascinating time of year during a vital period in human history. All over the world people of divergent perspective are paradoxically converging to observe (and even celebrate) what we have in common. Unsurprisingly, astrology has something to say about it.

len-wallick-logo

In the U.S. voters on both sides of a sharply divided electorate are beginning to come together in concurrent and similar civil rituals (called either primaries or caucuses), to select their respective champions for the quadrennial presidential contest later this year.

All over the world (but especially in the U.S.), fans of two American football teams contesting for the Super Bowl Championship will soon be coming together to cheer for their favorites — either in the stadium where the game is played, or in front of countless televisions in public places or private homes.

Also all over the world (but especially in the Far East) millions are preparing to convene with family and friends on the occasion of a new year, even if there is divergence as regards to the exact date when the Year of the Fire Monkey begins.

The Eastern Asian new year you are probably most familiar with has to do with the Moon. In the lunar new year tradition, the turnover takes place during the second New Moon following the Capricorn solstice (winter in the Northern Hemisphere, summer in the Southern Hemisphere). This year, that Aquarius New Moon will take place on Feb. 8 just before 9:39 am EST (14:38:52 UTC).

There is, however, a divergent tradition in East Asian culture that marks the new year by the position of the Sun. In his book The 12 Chinese Animals, Chinese astrology master Zhongxian Wu asserts that the new year “refers to the moment when the Sun is exactly at the celestial longitude of 315 degrees. It usually occurs on February 4 or 5 each year in the Gregorian (western civil) calendar.”

Interestingly, 315 degrees of celestial longitude corresponds to the precise middle degree of Aquarius in western astrology. It is one of the four ‘cross quarter’ days marking the midpoint of a season. In this particular case, it is halfway between the Capricorn solstice and the Aries equinox (spring in the Northern Hemisphere, autumn in the Southern Hemisphere). This year, the Sun will reach that point at the stroke of 4:46 am EST (09:46:00 UTC) on Feb. 4.

Just as in the Far East, there is divergence in the western world regarding when to celebrate the cross-quarter and what it means. For those inclined to participate in secular pop culture, there is Groundhog Day (today), when a fuzzy beast and people in funny clothing converge to augur how the current season will play out — based on whether or not the Sun is casting a shadow.

For those of a Christian persuasion, there is Candlemas (also today), which, in another example of divergence, variously commemorates a rite of passage for Jesus, or for his mother, or the conclusion of Epiphany. For many, the end of Epiphany season also represents the beginning of Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) or Carnival, allowing Christians a chance to get their freak on before getting serious again on Ash Wednesday.

For those who prefer to observe the Earth-oriented traditions that Christianity conveniently co-opted, this particular cross quarter point is called Imbloc (or Brigid’s Day).

Imbolc roughly translates to “in the belly” (thought to refer to the concurrent pregnancy of ewes), containing etymological references to milk and cleansing as well. You also might also think of yourself as in the belly of what is often experienced as a long and trying season.

Regardless of how you choose to observe either the Sun at the mid-point of Aquarius on Thursday or the Aquarius New Moon on Monday, the astrology of those occasions indicates that your individual choice is more likely to bring you together with others, in spite of any differences you have with them. That’s because of where the original ruling planet of Aquarius (Saturn — the arbiter of form, shape and structure) is now placed.

Saturn is currently moving very slowly as it approaches its retrograde station next month. As a result, where Saturn was yesterday is where it is today, and where it will be on Thursday — and even Monday: at 14+ Sagittarius, conjoined with the Great Attractor to the degree.

The Great Attractor is an intense gravitational source in deep space, far away from our galaxy. We don’t know what it is, but we know what it does. It is a polarizing object. Even as it is pulling uncounted galaxies (including ours), it’s also retreating in the opposite direction at apparently the same pace. Think of a celebrity (like the late Greta Garbo) who makes a living as a public figure, yet paradoxically wants to be left alone, and you get the idea.

Thus, having the traditional ruler of Aquarius (the sign of groups, particularly groups of choice) not only conjoined, but hanging out at what may be the singly most polarized point on the zodiac indicates not only a convergence, and not just a divergence, but somehow both at the same time. As a bonus, the next week or so implicitly provides you with a special opportunity to shape your life and the lives of countless others by the choices you make during this season of February festivities.

If it appears as though it’s going to play out that way for you, it would be in your best interest if you remember to play nice. For if there is one thing that all the holidays and events going on over the next week or so have in common, it’s that they all represent an initiation or threshold that will long resonate, based on how those participating contribute to the quality of the time.

The Super Bowl winners will long be remembered, and the losers quickly forgotten. The winners of the early primaries and caucuses in the U.S. will be more likely to attract both political contributions and undecided voters than those who finish behind.

And as any Chinese astrologer will tell you, the new year is an auspicious time only if you make good decisions and endeavor to do the right thing by others. By the same token, every version of how the western cultural tradition observes this time of year (as symbolized by the motion picture Groundhog Day) emphasizes how your choices shape your character, and your character (not astrology) in turn shapes your destiny.

So cross this threshold mindfully. Don’t let paradox confuse you. Rather, do your best; and (most of all) do the right thing and honor the cause of love no matter who you find yourself thrown together with.
