Today’s first quarter Moon describes a good landscape for moving something forward, perhaps in an especially expressive way. This lunar phase is actually part of a bigger pattern: a grand cross in the mutable signs involving the Gemini Sun, the Virgo Moon, Jupiter in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces. That configuration may offer some stability for whatever it is you need to do.

Here’s the question: do you feel like you need to loosen something up, or nail something down? Over the course of a year around the zodiac, the mutable signs come at the ends of seasons: after a fixed sign and before the next cardinal sign. As a result, they can sometimes act like one or the other. So you may want to check whether you’re at a point of needing to add flexibility and wiggle room to a process that has plateaued, or whether you’ve been vacillating to the point of inaction and now need to make a firm decision between options.

With the Sun also conjunct the centaur planet Asbolus, it’s also possible you’re in a ‘survivor’s mindset’ of some sort. We’ve all been through shit, and it’s not productive to compare who’s been through the worst; at the same time, there’s value in awareness of where you’ve been, seen alongside where you are now. Any dissatisfaction or lack you now feel might not, in fact, correlate with something lacking in your life. Rather, you may be sensing that there is something more you can do with your life. There is a difference, and it does not mean you have to change the plans you have already developed and put in motion. By all means, do follow through and complete what you have started. Once you have settled into your new situation, however, look to do yourself one better by setting aspirations that go further than being happier with your lot. Go beyond simply confronting challenges that come your way in due course. Create a challenge you can own. Specifically, look to manifest something you have probably been thinking about (but not acting on) for quite a while now. It will have to do with the reason so many people have been looking up to you, even as you have been looking down on yourself. It will mean seeking out greater responsibility and convincing others that you are ready to make the most of it. Notice if you’re feeling inclined to sidestep an uncomfortable situation or confrontation through deception, just because you’re discouraged or not in the mood. That said, it’s equally possible your innate idealism could get a boost today. Just keep tabs on the potential for extravagance — which is essentially overstepping your own boundaries — and for overstepping the boundaries of others. Are you sure that person really needs to know everything you have the urge to tell them?

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Aquarius monthly for May 11, 2012.

The Grateful Dead used to sing, “If you get confused, listen to the music play.” The current astrology says: “When in doubt, make your living space nicer.” Obviously you have more than this on your mind, including a diversity of concerns about where you’re at, whether you’re really making progress and what you’re doing with your life. Right now the astrology is showing me a picture of you putting down roots, of expanding into your space and of treating your living environment as if it’s your body (i.e., lovingly). Maybe have a small, spontaneous get-together in your home on Sunday evening, inviting over a few of your closest friends and maybe a few new ones. This specifically should happen in your personal space, not a public space of any kind (even if you may think your home is not up to par — nobody will care). Practice gratitude for the dry roof and the door that locks as the path to enlightenment.

The more you can keep any inner tension around relationship needs and their attendant emotions front and center (as opposed to operating from the shadows), the better today. The asteroid Juno in Cancer is square minor planet Eris in Aries; this could have the potential to manifest as an urge to be less-than-upfront about what’s really driving you emotionally. If you’re feeling ‘unmet’ in any way by a partner or prospect, resist the urge to use any tactic smacking of manipulation to get the attention you desire.

Speaking directly about what you want may feel awkward or scary, but it should give you the satisfaction of taking action that is clear to all involved. Even if the answer you receive is ‘no’, you’ll be in a stronger position within yourself to see your options for next steps. A Sun-Neptune square emphasizes the need to stay aware of just how honest you’re being with yourself — and therefore with others — this weekend.

Also note that Venus, the planet of love (among other things) enters Gemini tonight. This describes a social environment that’s charming, friendly and possibly marked by intellectual rapport and flirtation — which bodes well for many types of weekend situations. If sex is on your agenda, you may feel inclined to a little more variety than you were while Venus was in Taurus. Why not play?

Mercury in Cancer is in a highly energized position today: it’s making squares to the objects Logos, Salacia and Chiron, plus a sextile to Uranus. It looks possible to make some new discoveries about old (as in, generations-old in some cases) personal material. Or, even if the area of your concern is not that old, it could feel intensely personal — such as something to do with your sexuality, identity, buried hurts, and so on.

We seem to be in a moment of heightened awareness, of the kind that will feel good to acknowledge fully and do something productive with. That could include expressing it verbally. New solutions to stubborn problems might also become apparent; you just need to see them for what they are. If you can go with their flow without getting carried away by doubts, you’ll be in good shape. You do have a choice in where and how to direct your imagination.
