Dear Friend and Reader:
Wednesday, Jan. 15, is the Cancer Full Moon, exact at 11:52 pm EST. (View full chart here). Genevieve Hathaway has interpreted this lunation for each of the 12 Moon signs in her horoscopes below.
To read Genevieve’s horoscopes, it helps to know your Moon sign (where the Moon was at the moment of your birth), which you can find out by entering your birth data into Serennu.com. Often you can still get accurate Moon sign info even if you lack your exact birth time. You can also read these horoscopes for your Sun and rising signs for additional insight.

This Cancer Full Moon chart has a lot going on, making it challenging to feel out the best course of action in any situations where you feel conflict (especially conflict with an authority figure, including any internalized authority figures). The Moon is in sensitive, emotive Cancer, opposite the Sun in conservative, restrained Capricorn. That difference in expression alone can create some tension, and it’s a difference you’re likely to experience as playing out externally.
Take a moment to think back to the Capricorn New Moon on New Year’s Day. It was only two weeks ago, yet you may feel like certain situations in your life have changed considerably since then. The Cancer Full Moon is the companion event to that New Moon; this is the peak of the lunar cycle. Certain situations that were seeded on Jan. 1 are coming to a head and may resolve or develop as the Moon begins waning again Thursday.
Then again, one option you have with this Full Moon is to hold whatever tension is present until a moment when you can act in clearer accord with your values. As Len Wallick points out in his column today, holding tension, negotiation and approaching the conflict with creativity are all viable ways to work with the seeming polarities presented with this lunation.
Keep those options in mind. The Sun and Moon are being aspected by four astrological goddesses (Black Moon Lilith, Eris, Ceres and Vesta) reminding us that as surely as the feminine principle can create, it can also destroy. You might not be wholly comfortable with that power, choosing instead to ascribe it to an intimate partner, a parent or another authority figure.
If you don’t acknowledge and own both your light and your dark, embodying both Sun and Moon, you give up your authority and ability to guide its power according to your values and what is best for you. What is truly best for you, ultimately, also serves the highest good for all concerned.
Yours & truly,
Amanda Painter

Cancer Full Moon Moonshine Horoscopes | By Genevieve Hathaway
Aries (March 20-April 19) — As a Moon sign that naturally wants to push outward and express yourself, the inward pull you are working through may feel a bit uncomfortable or unfamiliar, like you are too much in your own skin. I suggest using your level of discomfort or unease as a marker that you are on the right track — probing into old material from long ago. Even if you can’t make contact with the exact details of an experience that may have created a wound, moving through the emotional memory of the experience will help you heal. As you sit with this material notice the moment when the energy reaches a peak. This can come with the sensation of something being burned off or released. What is left behind is an internal stillness, an open space within which you can create new emotional memories and feelings. — by Genevieve Hathaway
Taurus (April 19-May 20) — An opportunity is presenting itself to connect some dots between how your thought patterns impact your emotional state, and also the influence your feelings have on you mentally. Notice how you feel when you have positive or negative thoughts, and also take note of what attitudes and mindsets come up when you feel good or not so good. I suggest taking the holistic viewpoint that your emotional, mental and physical bodies are all parts of the same system — a system that is complete, rather than separate things. You can also think of this idea as these parts of yourself being interconnected — when you think positively you feel positive. The opposite is true as well. As you apply these ideas to your mental and emotional self you will be able to increase both your emotional and mental wellbeing. — by Genevieve Hathaway
Gemini (May 20-June 21) — You are working and reworking the concept of resources — what you have to give and also the resources of others that you have to draw on. A project is calling you to apply your own resources, but also those of others that you have access to. This may feel daring or risky to rely on others. I propose that this feeling is based more on fear and guilt than on how someone will actually respond. As you proceed, employ clear parameters and boundaries for how the other person’s resources will be applied, as well as clarity regarding what you need from them. Assumptions can lead to miscommunication. You can’t control the other person, but you can provide the opportunity for them to participate. Trust that they will, and are in fact looking for the opportunity. — by Genevieve Hathaway
Cancer (June 21-July 22) — As a Cancer Moon, you are used to having your emotions close to the surface. Lately it may feel like they are running at high tide, threatening to breach the banks and overflow. At the moment, much feeling is pushing out from within you. I suggest viewing this expansion of emotion less as a wave to hold back and more as an expanded experience of existence. This can come with the sensation of living all of who you are — all at once. What you are moving through is a shift in your mode of living to a position of allowing your emotions to be out front leading you. They are one of your greatest resources to understanding your experience of life, and an authentic expression of who you are at your core. — by Genevieve Hathaway
Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — This week, during the Cancer Full Moon, your dream space is particularly fertile. Much in the way of information and useful ideas are coming through as you sleep. I suggest keeping a journal next to your bed and writing down your dreams — both the events you remember, but also how you feel about them. Dreams are opportunities to explore internal material that you may not have the words or perspective to work through with your conscious self. As you notice the themes of your dream world, take into consideration how it applies to your father’s inner trip, particularly around the time you were born. His genetic code passed on a few issues for healing that go back generations. You are making headway now addressing and healing this material. — by Genevieve Hathaway
Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Your astrology is highlighting a question regarding personal and collective spaces. Think of the collective arena as the areas of your life that meet the larger world through projects, people, groups and your work. At the moment, the collective area of your life may feel more personal and your personal space more influenced by the public. These areas are not so much distinct spaces as they are adjoining rooms. The door connecting the two rooms has been opened and contents and occupants of each are moving between the two spaces. This rearrangement may make these spaces feel foreign. I propose that what this process is actually doing is shaking up the personal and collective parts of your life to expand and shift your perspectives. An opportunity is on offer to re-envision the role you and others play in your personal and collective space. — by Genevieve Hathaway
Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You may be experiencing a division between what you thought you wanted and what you actually want in terms of your work, as though your work and your highest calling seem to be moving on two different tracks. I propose that those tracks are easier to merge than they may initially appear. It starts with what you say ‘yes’ and ‘no’ to. Each choice you make moves you in a direction. Doing work that is your highest calling involves your soul being highly invested — a job or career that is an extension of ‘you’ in a deeply personal way. As the next few weeks progress I suggest basing your career decisions on who you are at a fundamental level. On offer is an opportunity to merge all of your work-related paths into one that fully supports what you feel most called to do with your life. — by Genevieve Hathaway
Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — You are challenging a few long-held ideas about what fills you with joy and nourishes your soul. This is firing up a lot of passion. What you are working through may also come with sensations of urgency or a need for resolution. You are reaching the end of a cycle of growth and making much headway in healing material around how you relate to what you are most passionate about. As you work through this material, take a look at your mother’s attitudes toward nurturing and everything that grew out of it. What desires were pushed aside and which were accepted? Then step back one layer and examine the external sources and attitudes that influenced her choices and perspective. You are learning some key information that is helping you build a new relationship to your inherent desire nature. — by Genevieve Hathaway
Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — At the moment, you are reworking some old ideas about the masculine/feminine energy dynamic in regards to sex, particularly in terms of how these energies play out in you. You possess an openness regarding acting on your desire and experimenting, rather than holding back from what you want. I suggest following your curiosity and seeing where it leads. As you share your desires with a partner, bring your full honesty to the conversation. I recognize that sex and talking about desires are deeply personal, vulnerable experiences. Remember, your partners are feeling the same thing, too. As you have conversations with them about sex and what you want to try, trust that these people are open and interested. Hold space for partners to express what they wish to try; encourage their curiosity and interest in new experiences. — by Genevieve Hathaway
Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — This week’s Cancer Full Moon takes place in the sign opposite your Moon sign, bringing very personal astrology to your relationship angle. Emotions in your closest relationships may be running particularly high. Whatever you experience coming from others, try examining yourself for the same. At the moment, relationships are like a mirror, reflecting the material you are working through in your emotional space. This new perspective on your own emotions provides the distance necessary to reflect on what you feel and where the emotional response came from. Is it authentic or a learned pattern? I suggest not rushing the process. Apply patience and realize with grace that you are healing. You are making much headway in building a new relationship with yourself that will in turn extend to your close partnerships. — by Genevieve Hathaway
Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — You are navigating a few quickly changing situations regarding your health, specifically the resources at your disposal to keep yourself healthy. By resources, I don’t just mean having enough cash in the bank, but resources that extend beyond your bank account, such as the people, knowledge and health programs you can draw on. A recent development may feel like it has created some hurdles. Instead of worrying about how you will clear each blockade in your path, I suggest maintaining a sense of flexibility as you continue to work the situation to find a solution. If you meet resistance, apply creative finesse to find a solution rather than trying to barrel ahead. The simplest, most elegant answer will get you the furthest in resolving the situation and help you obtain the resources you need to stay physically strong. — by Genevieve Hathaway
Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — You are pushing back against some long-standing emotional issues you’ve been working to heal, as though you reached a decisive moment and feel ready to meet that moment with your full potential. This can come with sensations of it being a daring or bold move. What you are experiencing is the completion of an emotional growth process — a process that has brought you into contact with how to put your needs and emotional nurturing before helping others. It’s not your job to feel guilty or wrong for being true to your needs, or taking care of those needs. As a Pisces Moon, you are naturally in tune with those around you, caring for others before yourself. Keep tending your own inner space. Ultimately, you can help others better by meeting them from a place of being good to yourself. — by Genevieve Hathaway
