Thank you. This one is special for me, Danielle. It’s hard to explain, but for me architecture and my love for astrology connect somehow (probably through a level of geometry and mathematics beyond my feeble understanding). Even though the concrete cupola obscures the sky, it also (at least for me) evoked the sky so as to transcend what it is made out of and connect with the idea which must have been in the architect’s mind.
You’re welcome Len. I think you would love walking through this space. And I agree, I think it was absolutely the architect’s intention. When you’re inside, you don’t feel the heaviness of the reinforced concrete, but you sense the walls’ strength via sound, because everything echos, reinforcing the perception of the space’s vast volume. The architect was Paul Tournon, who was inspired by famous cupola of Saint Sophia in Istanbul, dating from the 6th century.
