Ferguson: The Uranus Pluto Square is Behind the Scenes

Dear Friend and Reader:

Right up top so everyone sees it, I am planning to move this week’s edition back to Friday afternoon to make room for my friends at Chronogram, who go to press on Thursday. So you will have your horoscope and other materials about one day later than normal.

Planet Waves
Victoria Claflin Woodhull, later Victoria Woodhull Martin (Sept. 23, 1838 — June 9, 1927), was an American leader of the women’s suffrage movement.

As I mentioned in Thursday’s edition, we have been having an unusual experience of small planets making contact with very large ones, which can either be overwhelming or allow you the perspective to get a sense of scale. We have one more such aspect ahead of us — Mars conjunct Saturn on Monday, Aug. 25 — the day of the Virgo New Moon. I’ll be covering both of these in tonight’s Planet Waves FM, which usually posts at about 5 pm EDT.

If you’re one of those people who dare to watch the news, I’m sure it’s been with some concern for what is happening in the world — we are still doing that 2012-era thing of ‘everything, all at once’. This is going to go on for a while — it is a wakeup call, and I suspect it will last till a good few more people are paying attention.

When I cast the chart for the Ferguson, Missouri, scenario — involving the police shooting of an unarmed young man named Michael Brown and the resulting protests — I thought I would see the Uranus-Pluto square front and center. At first look it seems to be hiding behind the scenes. In tonight’s edition of Planet Waves FM I will discuss that chart and what it’s telling us.

I’ll also fill you in on what I learned at the Victoria Woodhull Foundation conference this weekend in Alexandria, Virginia. Woodhull was many things, including the first woman to run for president of the United States —  as founder of the Equal Rights Party in 1872. She was also an advocate of the concept of free love as a fundamental human right. The conference included sex educators, activists, erotic industry businesspeople, sex workers, their advocates, various academics and the occasional astrologer — in all, an interesting scene. Don’t miss my reading of Woodhull’s chart in tonight’s edition of Planet Waves FM.

Yesterday I published a letter called Business Astrology for the Individual Talent, which describes Good as Gold, the 2014 midyear readings. If you’re curious about that, you’re invited to have a look. The audio preview is available at that page.

Phone conferences for the Leo birthday reading and Good as Gold will be scheduled for next week, once I’ve caught up with all the monthly horoscope materials. I also plan to resume core community phone calls and my natal astrology reading class sometime soon, so stay tuned for that. (It has been a very, very busy summer finishing the new website, and we are almost there.)

If you’re born under the sign Virgo or Virgo rising, here is your pre-order link for your birthday reading.

Thanks for reading. I’ll catch you over at Planet Waves FM in a few hours.

Lovingly, your astrologer,

Psyche and Chiron in the Chart of Robin Williams

Dear Friend and Reader:

There are people whose charts we look to for information about them, and people whose charts teach us about the nature of astrology. Robin Williams was both. [See charts here.]

In tonight’s edition of Planet Waves FM, I’ll go over Williams’ charts, focusing on the role of Psyche and Chiron in his career, life and death. And I will consider the nature of suicide, and the message that it sends.

Planet Waves
Robin Williams and Pam Dawber as Mork and Mindy.

Williams began his extraordinary acting career playing the role of Mork from Ork, who first appeared on the series Happy Days in 1978 in a dream experienced by Richie Cunningham. While Williams played many more sophisticated roles, the notion that he was akin to a visitor from another planet stands out boldly in his chart.

I’ll be looking at his charts in some depth, considering his Chiron conjunct the Galactic Core, his collection of planets in very late degrees of their respective signs, and the role of asteroid Psyche, which was prominent in the charts of his birth and death. These placements in his chart describe a life-or-death struggle with faith.

Speaking of audio, we have just uploaded the Good as Gold readings to the server, and it should be available to purchasers Wednesday. I will leave the pre-order price of $49.95 in place for another day or so, then we will gradually increase to full fare by the weekend ($79.95 for all 12 readings, 45 minutes to one hour each).

Good as Gold is a set of integrated readings (i.e., they relate to one another) that explores the relationship between creativity, self-esteem and supporting oneself on one’s true talent. This is, of course, a challenging issue, and one that has been a recurring theme of my astrology consulting since the beginning. I’ve brought the best of my talent as an astrologer and business consultant to this question and have done my best to offer something useful.

You can listen to a free audio preview of Good as Gold at this link.

I’ll be preparing a short edition of Planet Waves for Thursday night, consisting mostly of a horoscope and a short letter. This week and weekend I am planning to be at the conference for the Woodhull Sexual Freedom Alliance in Alexandria, Virginia, the only such event of its kind that I know of. I won’t be at the Chronogram block party this year, though I will be in the DC area and will be available by email or reachable through my New York office, (845) 331-0355.

I plan to report back with what I’ve learned in next week’s edition of Planet Waves FM, and elsewhere if appropriate.

See you tonight on Planet Waves FM.

Lovingly,

P.S. A new issue of Planet Waves’ free environmental newsletter, called Monsanto ECO, will be mailed out later today. You can read last week’s issue here, and sign up here to receive the mailings every Tuesday.

Aquarius Full Moonshine Horoscope

Dear Friend and Reader:

We have one last horoscope for you before the Aquarius Full Moon, which is exact Sunday at 2:09:21 pm EDT (18:09:21 UTC). It’s the Moonshine Horoscope, now being written by Elizabeth Michaud and Len Wallick.

Planet Waves

I’ve also covered the Aquarius Full Moon in the latest edition of Planet Waves FM. If you want to see my annotated version of the chart, it’s on the program’s page. If you missed Thursday night’s edition, that carried a detailed weekly horoscope devoted to this event as well.

There are two other articles from the archives that you might appreciate, apropos of this lunation. One is called Aquarius Moonwalk, a late-night tour of Paris from the summer of 2004.

I also have an even older golden oldie, called Brother Moon, from 2003, about the Aquarius Moon in the natal chart.

I may be back with one more blog post this weekend on Planet Waves News. Currently I am wrapping up the Good as Gold reports (see article below), apropos of Jupiter in Leo and much other astrology. Stay tuned for additional info about that as well.

Good as Gold: the 2014 Midyear Reading for All 12 Signs

If you have not already noticed, 2014 is really two years in one, with version 2.0 beginning right about now. With all of the inner planets direct, Jupiter entering a fire sign and Mars coming home to its native Scorpio, a whole new concept of life and of astrology is reaching out to us.  I will be unfolding this brand-new aspect pattern for all 12 signs and rising signs in my midyear reading, called Good as Gold.

Planet Waves

Good as Gold will explore the relationship between self-esteem, creativity and money. The three are so closely interwoven that in a successful person they are indistinguishable. While you’re on the way there, these elements need to be understood one at a time, as specific concepts, goals or challenges.

I will provide ideas, strategies, motivational rants (my speciality) and ideas I’ve learned in therapy to get the blocks out of the way, access your courage, and invoke your vision for yourself. Jupiter is about potential, but that also means that the human part of the equation is making that potential real.

How do you manage the transition out of something old that is not really working and into something new, with the simultaneous demands of a learning curve, balancing yourself financially and staying inspired? These and other things are what I will be exploring.

Good as Gold is available for pre-order now, at $49.95 for all 12 signs. As usual, we start with the lowest price for all 12, gradually raise the price, then sell one reading for about what we were initially asking for all 12. Now is the
time to get the best rate on the whole package, so you can listen to your Sun, Moon and rising signs, and check in with the readings for your collaborators.

Planet Waves FM — Focus on Gaza Crisis

Dear Friend and Reader:

My last two daily editions have covered the square pattern between Leo and Scorpio, and the Moon passing through the grand fire trine. I will have coverage of the Aquarius Full Moon in Thursday night’s edition.

Planet Waves
A Palestinian woman lights a candle for the children of Gaza in the Church of the Annunciation in the West Bank village of Beit Jala.

From today’s post: “Fire is versatile, and it comes in many varieties, and we seem to have an abundance of all of them available to use right now. There is the fire of initiative and originality of Aries, in several forms. There is the physical, materializing fire of Leo waiting to be tapped into. There is the cosmic fire of Sagittarius, expressing itself as Karma, Ixion, Pholus, Orpheus, Hylonome, Eros and many other points.”

Note, we will have the Moonshine horoscope in its own mailing sent before the Aquarius Full Moon on Aug. 10.

Tonight’s edition of Planet Waves FM will focus on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. I’ll be speaking with Karen Pardini, who has followed the situation closely, and is experienced in working in the midst of disaster zones.

Our musical guest is Last Good Tooth, whose original members met at the Rhode Island School of Design. But they are not Talking Heads — they offer deep, soulful acoustic folk music. The program usually posts between 5 and 6 pm EDT (about 17:00 UTC).

I’ve completed the Leo birthday reading — that will be available later today to All-Access Pass holders and those who have already pre-ordered the reading. If you have not yet purchased it, I am holding the price at the pre-order (half price) level for a few more days.

This week I am recording the Good as Gold readings. This is a set of 45-minute readings for all 12 signs focused on business, creativity and self-esteem. They are still available at the pre-order price of $49.95.

I’ll see you tonight over at Planet Waves FM.

Inner Space and Focus on Mars Square Jupiter

Mars in Scorpio square Jupiter in Leo — a refreshing concept if only because both planets are in new signs and telling new stories. In effect now, this aspect builds till it’s exact Friday, and it’ll be the focus of my astrology this week.

Planet Waves

Speaking of which, I have the August Inner Space horoscope for you today, which is the introverted version of your monthly astrology. In case you missed it, the longer monthly horoscope was published with Thursday’s edition.

In tonight’s Planet Waves FM (to be posted between 5 and 6 pm EDT), I temporarily pause from commenting on the sad state of the world and focus on something that might be helpful, which is the rich astrology we are currently living under.

I thought about my take on Mars square Jupiter for a full week or more, and I deliver a message about why it’s essential to push the edge and to go beyond what you know, to take what other people might perceive as arrogant chances with your creativity.

Scorpio Mars (drive, desire, passion) leaning on Jupiter in Leo (pride in knowledge, thinking one’s ideas are great, and more passion) combine into a theme of exceeding one’s current capabilities. That always takes some drive or motivation, and this aspect describes just that. But what of people who shrink at the possibility of being bigger? That’s what I address, with some help from my musical guest, the eminent, magnificent Sloan Wainwright.

Housekeeping Hints from Eric

We are still working out a few bugs on the registration process for the Planet Waves News site (our free blog). As mentioned previously, we are collecting registrations in order to capture some of the energy that rushes past us in the form of 80,000 unique visits a month; we would love for these people to consider taking advantage of our services and thus supporting our whole ad-free publishing network. The only way to reach all those people is by email, and we are now facilitating that.

I appreciate your bearing with this process. A few things will smooth over your experience. One is to tick the “keep me logged in” box. Another is to enable cookies, which is how passwords are saved. If you are getting the “logged in but cannot access content” bug, please let us know, so we can track that one; the current solution is to clear your browser cache, but we still want to know about it.

Planet Waves

This whole journey is teaching us a lot about our soon-to-be-launched website for Core Community and All-Access Pass members (which uses the same membership plugin), a project that has taken years of devotion, and energy and money, and which is now just about complete. There are a LOT of steps toward getting a membership website ready, and this week alone I have worked with three different developers and a software engineer on different aspects of the website.

Current Projects: Good as Gold and Leo Birthdays

Good as Gold, the midyear reading, is underway. I have not had time to do the fancy kinds of marketing with the audio preview, featuring new music by me and Dan Sternstein, but you can still get it for the pre-order price of $49.95 for all 12 signs and rising signs. This will be a stellar report focusing on the themes of creativity, business and self-esteem.

The Leo birthday reading will be ready this week. Same situation on the audio preview, which many people find irresistible — I’ve been focused on content and infrastructure rather than marketing, though that reading is still available at the pre-order price of $24.95 and I plan to have it done this week. Once published, it will be $39.95 for subscribers and $49.95 for non-subscribers.

Both the Leo reading and Good as Gold include live conference calls, which will be scheduled once the readings are published.

Once I catch my breath from all this activity, I will resume general-invite conference calls, something I’m looking forward to immensely.

Thanks for staying tuned.

w/love

So Much More Than I Thought This World Could Ever Contain

Dear Friend and Reader:

As the Sun makes its way into Leo (Tuesday at 5:41 pm EDT or 21:41 UTC), we are again confronted with a painful world situation — the loss of another Malaysia Airlines jet in the war zone in Ukraine, the latest recurrence of a vicious war between Hamas and the Israelis and the situation in Iraq and Syria that has temporarily faded into the background.

I sometimes imagine that I’m telling the story of our moment far in the future, perhaps 100 years from now, describing the critical times we live in today — with global warming increasing, manufactured genetics inhabiting the body of every living thing and so many other problems that we need to solve. And what was most of the world community focused on? Nonstop war.

Planet Waves
As we enter the Dog Days of summer, this is Icha, a talented four-year-old German shepherd search and rescue dog. She is Pisces (born March 9) certified in underwater search, live scent and cadaver. Photo by Eric.

Not only is this condition taking a psychological toll on every person on the planet, we are wasting precious human life, time and resources on what amount to petty conflicts when we could be solving problems and moving forward.

The question I will be asking on tonight’s Planet Waves FM is, what is the psychology behind this? I will look at the astrology associated with the Sun’s ingress into Leo, the Leo New Moon and Mars about to ingress Scorpio.

Then I will look at the charts associated with the tragedy in Ukraine involving the loss of a civilian airliner, and how the current astrology is influencing the situation in the Middle East.

The program usually goes up between 5 and 6 pm EDT (about 21:00 UTC). The entire archive of Planet Waves FM programs remains available on that website.

I’ve been writing about the Sun’s ingress in two recent daily pieces, which you can scan at this link (that takes you to the Daily Astrology category).

I am currently working on two audio reading projects — the Leo Birthday Reading, which will be available early next week, and Good as Gold, a 12-sign midyear reading that will be available in early August. (Note, both of these are included with an All-Access membership.)

The Cancer reading was our most successful birthday reading in the five-year history of the project, and we had an amazing conference call where we covered the nuances of the project. Birthday readings and Good as Gold both include conference calls, which we will announce about a week before they happen.

I will catch you tonight on Planet Waves FM.

Lovingly,

PS — I have teamed up with Glyde, makers of the world’s only vegan, fair-trade condoms, to create a horoscope called Sex By Sign. This will publish every Wednesday night.

Countdown to Jupiter in Leo

Dear Friend and Reader:

Today we resume the Moonshine horoscope, which has been taken over by Len Wallick and Elizabeth Michaud. Here is their first column.

In tonight’s Planet Waves FM, I’ll focus on Jupiter ingressing Leo, which happens at 6:30:30 am EDT (10:30:30 UTC) Wednesday. The end of any slowish planet moving through a sign (or even the Moon or the Sun) can come with a sensation of restless anticipation, and this is no exception. I covered this in Tuesday’s daily.

Planet Waves
Artist’s impression of water vapor plumes emanating from Europa, a moon of Jupiter, comparable in size to the Earth.

Adding to this fact is that the Sun is still moving through its square to Mars, Eris, the lunar nodes and some key asteroids. That is accentuating the turning point effect, and in fact when Jupiter ingresses Leo, the Sun is exactly square Eris and the lunar nodes, and about to square Ceres, Vesta and Mars.

That is a LOT of solar aspects for one day, and it happens to be the day that Jupiter ingresses the sign that the Sun rules. I cover some of this in Monday’s daily.

In tonight’s edition of Planet Waves FM, I’ll also follow up on last week’s discussion of both progressions and void of course Moon and planets. The programs where I give astrology instructions get very good feedback and I plan to do more of that. My musical guest will be Deep Chatham from their CD The Catskill Sessions. Remember to tune into Planet Waves FM at about 6 pm EDT, when the program posts. We don’t mail out reminder emails every week, though we do occasionally.

Speaking of email — we have recently implemented registration for our main blog, Planet Waves News, our original website. That’s the one where I post Daily Astrology and where you read Len Wallick, Judith Gayle and many other writers. Not everyone is thrilled about this, however I’ll give you an idea why we did it.

Every month about 80,000 unique visitors get to that blog. That’s about 33 times more readers than we have subscribers. One reason people give for not subscribing is that the ‘free blog’ has so much content. Obviously that is a factor. This ‘free’ area is anything but free (except of course from outside advertising). The way that websites have always addressed this is to collect email addresses and then to offer products and services directly to registered readers, which is exactly what we are planning to do with the email addresses we get.

Note, if you already subscribe to a product or service, we do NOT offer you that product or service by email — though some people have several addresses registered with us, so our filtering system is not perfect.

I understand that for some of you this means another registration ID for a Planet Waves area. We’re being asked why we cannot just connect up our different sites and have it be super easy. Well, we can, but it costs money to do that. People see applications from the outside and they seem easy.

Planet Waves
Photo of Europa rising over Jupiter, taken by the New Horizon’s spacecraft in 2007, which should arrive at the Pluto-Charon system in 2015, giving us our first-ever clear photos of the Kuiper Belt.

I have spent most of the spring and summer finishing up our All Access / Core Community area, which we are close to releasing. I will tell you this has been an adventure.

Getting this site running is not as easy as tapping an icon, or making that thumb and forefinger gesture that makes your iPhone photos bigger. There are layers and layers of programming involved, all of which require engineering. It all seems so simple and easy from the outside

Most of us at Planet Waves work out of our kitchens. We are doing this only with subscription revenue and proceeds from product sales. Nearly every dollar is reinvested in your services. Part of not having advertising sponsorship or corporate overlords deciding what I can and cannot say to you is that we have to do some improvising and use our resources wisely.

I will say more about this in a forthcoming letter to the community and talk about the “user/developer divide” in tonight’s edition of Planet Waves FM.

Three other items. One is that I will be sending a letter about a special fundraising initiative for an environmental investigative journalism project involving Monsanto. Watch your email for that in the next few days.

Today is the last day to get Good as Gold, your 2014 midyear reading, at the lowest pre-order price of $39.95 for all 12 signs. The price will go up to $49.95 tonight and peak out at $79.95 when it publishes. Then we will split it into 12 separate products.

If you’re born under the sign Cancer and want to participate in tonight’s conference call related to your birthday reading, now is the time to sign up; please note that registration for the conference call is only available through purchasing the reading. (By the way, Cancer 2014 was our bestselling birthday reading ever).

Finally, the Leo birthday reading is now available for the lowest pre-order price.

I will catch you tonight over at Planet Waves FM.

Sun Square Uranus — and Good as Gold

Dear Friend and Reader:

Today the Sun is square Uranus, an aspect that describes surprising or spontaneous new beginnings. The Sun continues to move through the remnants of the cardinal grand cross, including the Uranus-Pluto square that is the heart of the matter.

Planet Waves

If you’ve been wanting to start something all year, now is the time. If you’ve run into diversions and distractions, get whatever was delayed started now.

Though there may not be antiwar protests in the streets, this is still a revolutionary moment. Sun in Cancer making the square to Uranus says don’t take your ‘comfort zone’ too seriously. You grow by pushing, luring or guiding yourself into new territory. And sometimes what appears to be circumstance does it for you. Sun-Uranus can have an in-your-face quality, and it can also be subtle. Yet it’s always about something new.

This often involves a stretch both of your mind and of your emotional confidence. Most things that get accomplished are begun before some official notion of ‘readiness’ is attained. Therefore pay attention to your environment, and embrace the unexpected. And one word of caution — don’t fall for the glamor of technology, fame or ‘instant success’ — stick to your core idea. Stay close to your art, to your vision, to the feeling behind the music.

Today’s Sun-Uranus aspect leads to Saturday’s Full Moon in Capricorn. This is the last burst of the cardinal cross of 2014. I’ve covered that in detail in Monday’s daily and will have more to say on tonight’s Planet Waves FM and Thursday evening’s edition, with your 12-sign interpretations.

Moonshine Horoscope is in transition to a new writing team and we anticipate having that ready for you right at the moment of the Full Moon, which is at 7:25 am EDT Saturday, July 12 (11:25 UTC). That horoscope will come right about then in a special mailing.

Tonight’s Planet Waves FM is scheduled for 5 pm EDT (21:00 UTC). My musical guest will be the brilliant Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. (I know, it’s a corny name — I was making fun of it till I walked in the door of BSP and in a matter of minutes was dancing in a pheromone-drenched frenzy in front of the stage.) Tonight’s program will focus on Saturday’s Full Moon chart and the transition into the new astrology of 2014 — the part featuring Jupiter in Leo met by Mars in Scorpio, or said another way, a lot of passion.

Planet Waves

Speaking of: I will be unfolding this brand new aspect pattern for all 12 signs and rising signs in my midyear reading, called Good as Gold. If you have not already noticed, 2014 is really two years in one, with version 2.0 beginning right about now. How do you manage the transition out of something old that is not really working and into something new, with the simultaneous demands of a learning curve, balancing yourself financially and staying inspired? These and other things are what I will be exploring.

Good as Gold is available for pre-order now. We’re introducing this at $39.95 for all 12 signs. As usual, we start with the lowest price for all 12, gradually raise the price, then sell one reading for about what we were initially asking for all 12. The first price increase will be Friday. So now is the time to get the best rate on the whole package, so you can listen to your Sun, Moon and rising signs, and check in with the readings for your collaborators.

Here is that link.
