This year’s Leo Full Moon coincides with Valentine’s Day — when romantic expectations run high and many people struggle with their self-worth, thanks to artificial retail, media and social hype. In other words, you or those around you might be feeling extra sensitive to the increasing tension of a Full Moon this week. But if you can treat yourself and others with a little extra compassion, it could go a long way — and could ripple out pretty far for the better.

Luckily, as a Full Moon peaks, tensions generally begin to ease; negotiations in seemingly intractable situations begin to feel more productive (or possible). But part of the key to riding a Full Moon is to track how your emotions may be driving your behavior, or how you might be seeing an issue in another person that exists within yourself. It’s a more proactive approach.

The Leo Full Moon is an opposition between the Moon in Leo and the Sun in Aquarius. Near the Sun in Aquarius are Nessus and retrograde Mercury. Nessus is a small planet of the centaur class. Chiron is the best-known centaur, and like Chiron, most planets in this category have to do with patterns that repeat across generations and the surfacing of old, possibly long-buried psychological material you may be in a better position to deal with (heal) now.

Nessus, specifically, speaks to how events occur in cycles — and are linked by the law of cause and effect. As Eric wrote on the Planet Waves blog Monday, “We have all heard of karma. That’s the bit about how every cause has an effect and every effect has a cause. I think of Nessus as the principle of ’cause and effect are never separate.’ Remember that as you make decisions this week.”

The Sun, retrograde Mercury and Nessus are in the sign of groups, possibly pushing your conscious awareness and communication toward conforming to the codified social expectations and patterns of Valentine’s Day. But the Moon is in Leo, which rules the heart. Nothing says, ‘I love you’ like a heart filled with compassion — for yourself as well as others.

Aries (March 20-April 19) — At the moment, you may be working through some frustration or tension regarding a risk you wish to take. It’s as though you’re ready to take the leap but can’t see how you will land on the other side, or even if an ‘other side’ exists for you to land on. As an Aries Moon, you are used to shaping your world your way; having a feeling of control over what you build in your life. This current bold move is stretching your sense of control, bringing the feeling of tension and possible uncertainty. I suggest meeting this feeling of daring and the unknown head-on. Take stock of the resources at your disposal. Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Beauty is an important component of your life, especially your environment. I don’t mean necessarily hanging expensive paintings in your home and having gold faucets in your bathroom; rather being surrounded with sounds, visual elements and things you can touch that bring you pleasure. I suggest taking note of your different environments — such as your home space, work environment, the view out of your house, places you frequent. Which ones do you feel most nurtured by, in terms of what is in the space, and which areas do you desire to rearrange or redecorate? Take some time over the next few weeks to rework and rethink all of your spaces. How can you change what is in them to provide greater emotional nourishment? Gemini (May 20-June 21) — During this week’s Full Moon in Leo, you are being called to reexamine the complex layers of your emotions. It’s time to shift through the layers of information contained in your emotional body to gain a new perspective on the family themes you have lived with on a daily basis. These themes include emotional and mental messages that govern decisions, personal perspectives and motivations. Often they operate on the unconscious level, surfacing as habits, thought patterns and emotional responses. You have an opportunity to examine these themes on the conscious level, to question many of these ideas and themes and whether or not they serve you. I suggest actually sitting down and journaling out the beliefs that have guided your decisions and how you’ve felt over the last couple of years. You will be able to connect quite a few dots to follow an evolution in your belief system. What you are making contact with is how your desire nature forms a basis for much of your personal perspective. Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — You are working through a perceived impasse regarding how your personal resources are accessed and used by others. This Full Moon in Leo is taking place while Mercury is also retrograde. The current astrology is calling for a reevaluation of how you apply your boundaries with others, as well as where you need to renegotiate relationship agreements that impact you financially. I suggest taking the next few weeks to get clear on what you need in terms of the current agreements you are in. You’ve been through periods of time when you applied yourself intensely to one or the other. This brought much progress to one area of your life, but it may have come with the sensation that your life was full in some areas and experiencing a drought in other areas. You are reevaluating how this single-focused approach has or has not supported your feeling emotionally satisfied.
