Everyone is having to watch their anxiety level these days. You’re not alone on this mission. We’ve been alerted by various New Age movements of an increasing vibratory rate on the planet going back a couple of decades, and the electronic media have become nothing more than a fear pump. Even if you don’t indulge, you’re likely to be picking up the vibes from all the people who do, and by all indications you’re especially sensitive now to the influences of the freaked-out. But there is one person in your life who decidedly does not match this description. Pick up the phone and call them. I see dinner plans in your future.

The Saturn-Pluto conjunction is upon us: it is exact on Jan. 12. While this event will happen two or three times in the lives of most people, this particular event is a moment of convergence and reckoning for the world and for us as individuals.

You may think you’re obsessing over sex or going from one emotional high to the next, and who knows what the people around you think. What I see in your solar chart is that you’re craving pleasure and healing in a way that suits your desire nature well, and that you’re actually making contact with a side of your nature you haven’t been able to reach any other way. The main risk is that of attachment to someone who is not exactly who you think they are; so while you’re exploring, make sure you leave room for the story to take any number of turns — and give yourself room to explore. Said another way, what you’re doing is diving into your experience rather than creating something designed to be ‘permanent’. If there is something stable that you’re building, it’s your relationship to yourself. This is true, no matter who you’re with — remember.

Events this week obviously seem like a conspiracy to pull you out of balance, or to somehow demonstrate to the world that you don’t exist. Beware of proving you exist by exerting your energy against something that seems intent on resisting you, or by resisting others for the sake of a fight. Whoever or whatever you’re tangling with may be involved precisely to prove that they exist, whether at your expense or their own. Shout it from the rooftops: we all exist, and we happen to do so in the same time and approximately the same space. Power struggles generally manifest when people are neglecting the more important items on their agenda; they provide a large diversion. We have a lot of work to do, here on the frontier of the third millennium. Project one is learning cooperation.

Life is not really so confusing particularly if you let the confusion sit for a little while and get a sense of what’s going on inside it. A good few things are sorting themselves out right now but what’s somehow clicked into place is a more clear idea of who you are. This is partly Saturn at work; you seem to have many reasons to affirm your own maturity capability and stability. But what you’ve got working to your advantage most of all is your ability to change your mind when you’re presented with new information. But then decisions are one sign of true inner confidence — no matter how else you may feel at the time.

It’s time to loosen up your perspective and your perception. You know all the times you were seeing the world in black and white, and then it turned out that you could see in many colors? That’s where you are at right now. Yes, the spectrum of possibilities, of personalities, of what is simply interesting rather than being a moral issue, is more than most people think they can handle. However, your own sense of potential is directly linked to what you’re able to perceive and be at peace with in the world around you. The more you embrace what is so, without any need to judge it, the more you will expand into who you are and what you’re becoming. Most notions of right vs. wrong make no sense at all, and to some extent, we’re all carrying around the residue of moralism. If you take even one step toward freedom, you’re likely to feel like an anarchist. That’s not really true; that sensation is just an indication of how wound up you were in the past, and how much you’re letting go of today.

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Taurus weekly for March 26, 1999.

One of the world’s most prominent Taurans is a journalist and political prisoner on Pennsylvania’s death row named Mumia Abu-Jamal (born April 24). For some people, Jamal is seen as a “controversial” figure because he was convicted of killing a cop (in a ridiculous sham trial), but to me, he embodies a karmic struggle of the first magnitude for our culture: are blacks and whites treated equally? Is our justice system remotely fair? Is it sane to murder people as punishment for alleged (or proven) murder? In my mind, it makes sense that a Taurus would be the one to take this struggle on his shoulders, but I’m not sure why. Novelist Alice Walker called Jamal, “A rare and courageous voice speaking from a place we fear to know.” Till your fast-approaching birthday, I suggest you consider to what extent the same is true for you.
