Moonshine Horoscopes — Pisces New Moon Edition

Dear Friend and Reader:

Saturday, March 1, is the Pisces New Moon, exact at 3:00 am EST — right between Mercury stationing direct and Mars stationing direct and Mars stationing retrograde, at a kind of potent still point or moment of suspension. (View full chart here.) It’s an unusual and perfect moment for some deep Pisces work.

Planet Waves

Genevieve Hathaway has interpreted this lunation for each of the 12 Moon signs in her horoscopes below.

To read Genevieve’s horoscopes, it helps to know your Moon sign (where the Moon was at the moment of your birth), which you can find out by entering your birth data into Serennu.com. Often you can still get accurate Moon sign info even if you lack your exact birth time. You can also read these horoscopes for your Sun and rising signs for additional insight.

This Pisces New Moon puts the Sun and Moon right between Neptune and Chiron, conjunct them both (though slightly closer to Chiron). This placement offers some beautiful potential: your conscious awareness and intuition in harmony with each other and able to draw on both the creative, visionary potential of Neptune and the focusing, healing capabilities of Chiron.

True, you might feel instead like you’re ‘operating under the influence’ of Neptune’s less helpful qualities (delusion, denial, dishonesty) — in which case, Chiron’s ‘wake-up call’ could be a rude one. The thing to remember about Chiron, however, is that in any healing crisis it initiates, the emphasis is always on the ‘healing’ part. And in Pisces we’re swimming in an ocean big enough and deep enough to accept whatever emotional runoff you need to release.

Pisces is also a sign marked by deeply creative, spiritual and intuitive energy. New Moons in Pisces are particularly fertile events for creative visioning as you take spiritual stock of the past astrological year and prepare your inner self for the next one (which begins with Aries).

This New Moon is also exactly trine retrograde Jupiter in Cancer (which stations direct less than a week later). Sun and Moon trine Jupiter are all about receiving blessings, success and good health, and faith in yourself. It may be that you feel these things internally more than you experience them externally, but sometimes that’s all we need to turn a corner in life and set something new — and really good — in motion for ourselves.

Yours & truly,

Amanda Painter

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — You are connecting the dots between how your structured routines and habits have helped you maintain an emotionally grounded internal state, even when your external world seemed turbulent and unpredictable. I propose that this process of using organization, structure and planned actions to stay emotionally centered is a skill that will benefit many people around you. For you these are natural habits, but for others they take practice and work to integrate into daily life. Notice when someone around you is struggling or feeling off-center emotionally. This is an invitation to share your knowledge. Your use of habits and patterns is something you can teach to those around you — helping them learn this useful technique to build structures and patterns in their own lives that support a balanced emotional center. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — You are re-evaluating who and what is in your life — specifically the groups and individuals that comprise your larger network. This inquiry may come with sensations of uncertainty or a pullback from those activities and individuals to whom you give your time. I suggest moving with the energy and taking time to reflect on which groups you are a part of and why. As you consider changes to your larger network I suggest viewing your dynamic with groups as a two-way street. It’s not just what they do for you, but what you are able to do for them. How you contribute is an important component for you to feel connected to people and the groups you are part of. Look for symbiotic relationships where you can make a difference, and in turn that difference will help you feel a large sense of meaningful existence. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Information is shaking loose regarding an overall picture of your career trajectory over the past few years. What you are gaining insight into are the ways in which you have found solutions for a number of important, quickly changing work situations. You have drawn on your personal resources and skills to move with these changes, creatively working and reworking what arose to develop unique solutions. You created a back door to slip through that not everyone around you saw as possible. As a few situations in your work life seem delayed or off-track, you have everything you need at your disposal to reach the end result you desire. I suggest taking a page from your old playbook and again look to create an unusual, creative solution. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — Lately, it may seem like a lively debate is going on inside of you — like a room of professors are discussing a variety of ideas. At times many of these concepts feel quite foreign to you. This may come with the feeling like there is a cacophony of noise inside of you rather than a clear, focused mental and emotional state. Many of these different voices are the concepts that have been passed down through your family line. This week’s New Moon is cutting through that noise like a laser beam, focusing on your authentic inner voice. Take note of the new beliefs that come to the forefront of your consciousness and how they resonate in alignment with your internal self. They are laying the framework for a belief system that is based on you and your authentic needs, desires and values. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — You are working through a reassessment of how you approach other people’s resources to which you have access — including other people’s time, money, network and personal property. Think of this inner block in terms of the feelings it brings — guilt, shame, doubt. In the past, an emotional block may have made it difficult for you to ask for these resources. I suggest working from the position that by asking for what you want and need you are opening up space for others to form a deeper connection with you by participating through sharing resources. I suggest not giving the ‘yes or no’ for the other person, rather state what you need and let them respond. Many people around you are looking to participate further in your life; trust that they will show up and share what they can. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — This week’s New Moon takes place in Pisces, opposite your Moon sign, highlighting your close relationships. You are in a moment that may feel like a blank slate, as though space has opened up for you to build new patterns in terms of the dynamic between you and your partner. These patterns start with you and how you respond within the context of the partnership. As you consider how you wish to restructure your relationships, I suggest reviewing how you’ve engaged in the past with close partners — looking for patterns and habits that were unconscious responses. Recognizing them will help you make conscious decisions to do things differently, starting now. These conscious decisions over time build new patterns based on awareness and authentic desire. Ultimately, you are moving closer to relationships that support both you and your partners. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Your dreams are helping you work through much inner material. Dreams are a tool for our psyche to process and heal emotional material. They provide a door into your internal realm, a chance to walk through your inner landscape in a manner that provides a perspective different from when you are awake. Your dreams are particularly potent now, containing much in the way of useful information surrounding deep emotional material. What you are accessing does not just apply to your current lifetime, but goes back many generations. You are working through this material and integrating the healing into your emotional framework. If this process seems to take more of your energy, I suggest giving yourself the time for extra sleep and rest. Ultimately, you are healing to a place of greater emotional wellbeing and grounding. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — A particular doubt may be arising as to your ability to access your creativity fully. A certain problem or challenge has presented regarding an important project, raising questions as to whether you have the creative resources at your disposal to find an innovative solution. Your creativity is a vast, renewable resource. Accessing creativity is only part of a solution; the other part involves a practical strategy and the flexibility to shift and evolve with the changing situation. You know innately how to proceed with this project. As you take the next steps, move forward with intention and a steady vision. Remember, one of your largest resources is your intuition; trust your inner guidance. Part of your living authentically is letting your intuition and your calculated risk-taking help guide you through challenging and complex projects and situations. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — During this Pisces New Moon, I suggest creating a metaphorical room inside of you — a place you can go where you can be completely honest with yourself. It’s an inner space that no one else can access; a place where you can tell yourself your deepest or darkest thoughts, fears, desires and needs. An inner space that is safe to be completely you and to experiment with this concept. There is no denial, doubt or fear in this internal area, just acceptance, curiosity and love. Through what you explore in this sacred space, you are learning a lot about old family patterns that have influenced how it feels to be you. Notice the family themes that present themselves. You are in a position to rewrite these messages, building new emotional patterns based on strong feelings of self-love and acceptance. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — I suggest paying extra attention to what information comes out over the next few weeks, especially the role your environment plays in your feeling centered and balanced on a daily basis. Be honest with yourself about the effect certain aspects of your environment have on you. Only you dictate what is truly around you. Take time to add to your personal space more of what nourishes you, and remove those situations and elements that are distracting or draining. Go as far as making sure you have plenty of creative elements and tools at your disposal. Even if you aren’t a ‘good’ musician, painter or photographer, if you are drawn to a particular art, fill your personal spaces with aspects of that activity. Ultimately, providing plenty of creative avenues that nourish you will build spaces in your environment that provide an authentic feeling of home. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — At times, the feeling of grounded strength in who you are may have felt too slippery to orient on, like it was there one moment and gone the next. This week’s Pisces New Moon is connecting you with a more solid sense of what it means to be ‘you’. Much of the growth work you’ve done over the past few years has helped you get to know parts of yourself in new ways — especially your resilience and dedication to your healing. Note how you felt as you explored new parts of yourself, especially the aspects of yourself that you’ve liked and been proud of. This new shift you’ve experienced is connecting you with feelings of fully owning your existence — you can also think of this as a solid sense of self-worth. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Much of your focus has been on your internal experience of life — your focus and energy has been driven inward. At times, this may have brought feelings of being disconnected, or not fully present in your external world. This has been an important process to clear out old material you’ve been healing and create new emotional patterns. The focus on you and your journey has not allowed you to apply your energy to your close personal relationships. This week’s Pisces New Moon is illuminating a bridge from this intense inner focus to your external relationships. It’s opening a door you may not have seen before — a way to involve your relationships as part of your intense inward journey. Ultimately you are making contacting with your holistic nature and finding a creative method to balance all aspects of your life. — by Genevieve Hathaway

This Week on Planet Waves +Your Moonshine Horoscopes

Dear Friend and Reader:

If your week has gotten off to a slightly glitchy or confusing start, you’re not alone. At the end of this week, both Mercury and Mars change their apparent direction; right now, it’s as if the sky’s gears are clanging together as we move toward the time to shift.

Planet Waves
The Coxing on the Grandmother Land in High Falls, NY. Photo by Eric.

But take heart — the Pisces New Moon is in the mix. Have some contingency plans and view any surprises as opportunities, and you could find yourself someplace really interesting.

Eric covers the station direct of Mercury and Mars stationing retrograde, plus the Pisces New Moon in this week’s Planet Waves FM. All of these things happen within about 24 hours, so it’s an unusual sequence of events — get ready for some changes, a reshuffling of your priorities and making some unusual progress. He also talks about Jupiter square Uranus, which is one piece of the 2014 grand cross that will be exact on April 24 — what is likely to come with American Spring. (Speaking of revolution, we’ve posted a piece about the situation in Ukraine and its astrology.)

Sunday, Eric and his co-host Dan Sternstein paid tribute to the music of Mozart in the best edition of Music Appreciation Hour yet. You can hear Mozart’s first piece, composed at age five, performed by a cat. And you’ll hear samples of the great composer’s work throughout his career.

Amidst all the potentially confusing or disruptive astrology this week, the Moon is also waning toward its new phase on Saturday. Genevieve Hathaway has interpreted the Pisces New Moon for all 12 signs in this week’s Moonshine Horoscopes.

Monday’s Daily Astrology column considered the ways in which the potentially disruptive energy from Mercury and Mars can actually open unexpected doors. You can use the square between Jupiter and Uranus to step through those doors into something new and alive.

Part of what prevents many people from liberating themselves into their own lives is guilt — whether stemming from parental expectations and limitations, religion or other social institutions. Today Venus (still in Capricorn) makes a trio of aspects asking for our attention in this realm. We’ve covered it in the Daily Astrology column.

Len Wallick looks at the four major-planet changes of direction in the works and suggests that as the cosmic deck gets shuffled, you keep one eye on the bigger picture. You can read his post at noon on the Planet Waves blog.

Yours & truly,

Amanda Painter

Planet Waves Monthly Horoscope for March 2014

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — You seem to be holding onto a lot of energy that you absolutely must express. I don’t mean a modest amount of energy; I mean on a volcanic scale. Energy always finds a way into manifestation. Given what you’re working with you must take up the power of directing it in a constructive way. That’s not a given, and there are no guarantees. The closest you can come is a commitment to yourself to be aware from moment to moment where you focus your mind, particularly in your intimate relationships. You may need some time away from a partner, or space to experiment in entirely new ways. Any relationship is likely to either feel the stress or come along for the journey, though I suggest you not try to push or drag anyone into what is inherently about you alone. If you value the relationship, be honest about what you’re experiencing and negotiate the space you need. At the heart of the matter seems to be an experiment in emotional independence for the purpose of exploring and experiencing life in ways you may have long dreamed of. This will not be a predictable process, and once you admit that it’s happening, you will be on a journey with a life of its own. Or rather, a journey of discovering, perhaps once again, that you have a life of your own.

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — You may feel like you’re trying to fit your ideas about yourself through a tiny opening — as if it’s impossible to have enough context to make a real decision about who you are or what you want. The tight space you’re going through will help you prioritize and focus. Think of what you’re doing as making micro-decisions, and consider any choice or adjustment a microcosm of the whole. It’s not merely that small choices add up to larger direction. Rather, each stems from a larger idea of what you want. There is tremendous power contained in reckoning these details and seeing their relationship to who you are. It’s easy to think that our lives hinge on the huge decisions we make. Yet even the most monumental changes of direction require many small adjustments to make them real. Therefore, you can think of each little observation or maneuver as an affirmation of who you are and what you want. This can involve the details of what you eat, how you spend money, how you spend your time (especially that) and where you invest your emotional energy. Your charts suggest you’re at a major crossroads that may not come across as such. You may have no specific validation — yet. Therefore, live well and live consciously, and trust that you’re coming around one of the most significant turns in many years.

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Situations that were puzzling or seemed impossible will start to make more sense — in direct proportion to how weird they seemed before. In particular the last few days of February into the first few days of March may have that sensation of walking on the ceiling, playing music backwards looking for the secret messages or waking up being able to perform magic tricks that you don’t remember learning. Or, alternately, if you find yourself in a crunch point where you feel like you have no clue how to handle yourself, pay attention to how quickly your environment is changing. Then, adapt from moment to moment. That’s your specialty anyway, but usually you do this in autopilot mode. The challenge of the moment is doing everything manually, taking each breath consciously, and noticing the unusual openings that may come in the most mundane transactions. Many of those will be interior. The adventure of Mars retrograde in your 5th house makes possible a creative and sexual self-discovery experience like nothing you’ve ever felt. Your ability to experience life from both sides of the coin, your curiosity about the dynamics of desire and power, and a rare moment when you will allow yourself to say anything, well, it will all add up to a bold few months — as bold as you want. In fact, you may open doors that you’ll never want to close.

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — With all the activity now unfolding in Aries and Libra, you may feel like your life is hanging in the balance. Yet you have plenty of influence over which way things go, you are protected by forces that may seem too large to see, and best of all, you are opening up to the people close to you. One theme that stands out in your charts is making peace with women, and if you are a woman, you may include making peace with yourself. There appears to be a trust issue that has been pushed beyond the point where you can ignore it, or live peacefully with the question unresolved. Part of this involves trusting yourself. Part is about trusting people to be transparent about their agendas and true to their own values. Bear in mind that the chaos and confusion so many people are in is not of their own making. It was imposed on them. Yet as a person comes of age and attains both adult power and responsibility, the option to step out of that pain and turbulence opens up. If your life is in the balance, it’s over the question of whether you can admit your deepest truth to yourself. That is, you may cycle through a diversity of desires, ideas and feelings which may at times seem to conflict. Actually each is a different facet of the same truth of who you are.

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Your most intimate relationships are in transition, which means you’re being called upon to be especially flexible and resilient. One particular idea comes under the microscope — that of ‘the perfect marriage’. I believe there is such a thing, indeed I have evidence that there is. The perfection comes not from the static quality of the relationship but rather from its ability to grow, to change and to transform with the people involved. There must be a mutual commitment to healing; mutual respect for each person’s physical and psychic integrity. With that includes recognition of free choice in all matters, especially relating to the partnership itself. I recognize this violates most of the commonplace definitions and concepts of marriage, which seem to be focused around rigid concepts and presumption of ownership. That model is not going to survive the onslaught of the 21st century, and your life is too full and too rich to be constrained by any factor not of your choosing. Here is the challenge: when established structures change, there needs to be a new set of ideas and guidelines to replace them. Those are best if driven by what the people involved agree to as their bottom-line, most essential values. Any relationship between two people will either be based on a dominant-submissive model, or based on consensus. Consensus is based on mutual values. That is the starting point and that is the destination.

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You must focus on the question of what is real and what is not. This will not be as obvious as it seems. I suggest you not assume you have this one right, no matter how confident you feel. Indeed I suggest you not assume anything, and make careful note of the facts of the situation. Opinions can be deceiving, and it’s essential to recognize them when you experience them. Facts are statements that can be documented and proven true or false. They are not about an emotional rationale or persuasive feeling; whether a fact stands up comes down to the data that supports it, preferably collected over time. The first area of your life to go over carefully is your relationships with loved ones, friends and partners. Do you have any outstanding commitments to them? Is there anything that got lost in the shuffle of the past couple of busy months? Is there anything you need to clear up? If you have made yourself invisible or have gone below the radar, if you’ve left facts out of the story or are avoiding anyone, now is the time to engage with them in a meaningful way. As you do this review, I suggest you consider the way in which your self-esteem may be influencing you. Consider how you act toward others when you’re feeling good about yourself and when you’re not. Your observations may surprise you.

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — Mars is about to station retrograde in your sign. That spans from March 1 to May 19. The retrograde process actually reaches back to early December, when Mars first entered Libra. So if you notice any shifts, changes or shakeups in the coming week or two, take the story back to late last year. The theme of this retrograde is profound self-discovery, though it may seem at first that others are the forum for what you learn, and you are the forum for their learning. That will work for a while, as you explore your inner dynamics within the context of a relationship. Yet as the retrograde progresses, you may feel the need to have certain experiences on your own. The forces involved are too powerful to cling to anyone or anything. If you feel a need, desire or obligation to maintain a connection or commitment, make sure you proceed in a way that is open and honest, and most of all, that works for you. If your personal needs require you to shift the pattern of relating, do so in a way that preserves trust and your options in the future. Said another way, you can live your life without burning your bridges — something you would come to regret. Your emotional involvement with someone may be intricate and delicate, and that calls for special handling, high awareness and always — always — remembering who you are.

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — Fear is a fact of life on Earth, the planet of eat or be eaten. How you handle your fear is not a given; you have many options. How you exercise them will make a difference. Let’s start with the basics: fear is a form of energy and it points to a deeper energy source. If you treat it that way, and seek understanding of what is not immediately obvious, you will learn that fear does not need to be debilitating, and that in fact it can be empowering. The first thing to do is let your fear speak. Get the message of what it’s saying. Translate it into terms that are clear, and that lend themselves to decisions. You’re likely to feel the most panicky when you feel like you lack the power to choose. Therefore, information that leads to a state where you can make decisions is what you want and need to have. Indeed, we could call this the theme of the entire Mars retrograde. This is a set of transits intimately linked to you because both of your ruling planets — Mars and Pluto — are so directly involved. When this fully takes shape in late April, you are likely to feel some serious pressure to make progress on many things you have set aside or left for the future. The thing to remember is to get the information you need in order to make an informed decision, and then another.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Don’t worry if you think people don’t like you, or if you’re having some difficulty managing your social relationships. I suggest you take the events of the next few months as an extended opportunity to learn where you really stand with people, and also to learn how to build your overall standing in the community. I don’t mean your popularity — I mean real things like trust, dependability, loyalty and the willingness to stand up for what you believe in, even if it’s going to piss off some people. Though you have it in you to be the supreme diplomat, you are also a Sagittarius, and your sign is equipped with a sharp edge. Still, it may be necessary to err on the side of asserting yourself. Do that firmly, directly and with understatement. Be a keen observer for passive-aggressive tendencies in yourself or in others. The ‘passive’ part is just a ruse for the ‘aggressive’ part, so get underneath that if necessary and suss out the source of that energy. Meanwhile, any relationship or encounter can lead to contact with anyone. That’s a good incentive to say friendly things about people, and a reminder that in your life, the usual seven degrees of separation between you and any other person is about to be reduced to one or two degrees of separation. The world is small, and it’s getting smaller.

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — You will be summoned to leadership in the coming months, perhaps immediately. Events and your own desire for integrity and achievement will give you the opportunity to exceed your current abilities and expectations of yourself. What you must be cautious of is any moment when you’re doing something that cannot be reversed. This could be applied to many different situations, but I really mean decisions from which there is no going back. Despite that, you will need to be bold, and I suggest you assert that by listening to people you respect and taking what they say under advisement. That does not mean ‘take all advice’, it means consider what people say. This is basic politics and it’s also common sense. Speaking of politics — know who your allies are, and put them to work for you. Seek their assistance, and make sure they know how much you appreciate their contribution. Leadership is not all about the leader — it’s all about the people who surround and interrelate with that person. You want one or two people who are not afraid to disagree with you, assuming you have determined they are intelligent and respectful. When life is coming at you from all corners, make sure you have those corners covered. At the same time, you will command respect by standing on your own and never shrinking from a decision.

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — There are those moments when you’re sure it’s the dark night of the soul — when you have no sense of direction, and when you doubt whether you have the strength to go on. But lately, you are experiencing these junctures as something more like a nearly impossible alchemy of transformation. This process goes as deep into you as anything ever has. No matter how challenging your inner life may seem (speaking of the next three months or so), or how isolated you may feel from time to time, you have a truly amazing phase of your life approaching when you can change everything by changing yourself. Or rather, you will be given all you need to make deep inner changes, which will manifest in your seemingly outer life. You may feel like you’re making only slow progress on your journey to self-knowledge and personal healing. Yet with these things, what you have is less important than what you do with them. If you use the self-knowledge you have gained, you will inevitably build on it. If you trust the process of your healing and allow that commitment to guide you in all of the decisions you make, you will advance your healing dependably. As you move through this territory, I have one suggestion. Be bold, and keep no secrets from others. Then be even more daring and keep no secrets from yourself.

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — This monthly column marks my 20th anniversary as an astrologer and my 50th anniversary being on the planet. I’m happy to have made it half a century, though I am equally grateful to have devoted two decades of my life to daily study of, writing about and teaching astrology. I’m especially grateful to be a Pisces astrologer, because to me that means I have an understanding of all the rivers (that is, the signs) that flow into the ocean. The Sun is now in Pisces, and is making conjunctions to Neptune and Chiron in our birth sign. That means the waters are flowing freely at the moment, and it happens to be the season of your birthday. This setup means that you have equal access to intellect and intuition; to creativity and healing ability; to your expressive gift and your ability to receive and to listen. Make sure you put all these factors consciously into the mix of your life. Don’t leave anything out. You know you’re on a mission, and I suggest you give this everything you have, and make sure you collect the rewards of your efforts as you go. You are the specialist at long-range planning and deferred gratification. I suggest you adjust that slightly, focus on bringing what you’ve worked on forever to fruition, allow it to feed you and continue to learn whatever you can from anyone who is successful.

Moonshine Horoscopes — Leo Full Moon Edition

Dear Friend and Reader:

Friday, Feb. 14, is the Leo Full Moon, exact at 6:53 pm EST. (View full chart here.) Genevieve Hathaway has interpreted this lunation for each of the 12 Moon signs in her horoscopes below.

Planet Waves

This year’s Leo Full Moon coincides with Valentine’s Day — when romantic expectations run high and many people struggle with their self-worth, thanks to artificial retail, media and social hype. In other words, you or those around you might be feeling extra sensitive to the increasing tension of a Full Moon this week. But if you can treat yourself and others with a little extra compassion, it could go a long way — and could ripple out pretty far for the better.

Luckily, as a Full Moon peaks, tensions generally begin to ease; negotiations in seemingly intractable situations begin to feel more productive (or possible). But part of the key to riding a Full Moon is to track how your emotions may be driving your behavior, or how you might be seeing an issue in another person that exists within yourself. It’s a more proactive approach.

The Leo Full Moon is an opposition between the Moon in Leo and the Sun in Aquarius. Near the Sun in Aquarius are Nessus and retrograde Mercury. Nessus is a small planet of the centaur class. Chiron is the best-known centaur, and like Chiron, most planets in this category have to do with patterns that repeat across generations and the surfacing of old, possibly long-buried psychological material you may be in a better position to deal with (heal) now.

Nessus, specifically, speaks to how events occur in cycles — and are linked by the law of cause and effect. As Eric wrote on the Planet Waves blog Monday, “We have all heard of karma. That’s the bit about how every cause has an effect and every effect has a cause. I think of Nessus as the principle of ’cause and effect are never separate.’ Remember that as you make decisions this week.”

The Sun, retrograde Mercury and Nessus are in the sign of groups, possibly pushing your conscious awareness and communication toward conforming to the codified social expectations and patterns of Valentine’s Day. But the Moon is in Leo, which rules the heart. Nothing says, ‘I love you’ like a heart filled with compassion — for yourself as well as others.

Yours & truly,

Amanda Painter

Leo Full Moon Moonshine Horoscopes | By Genevieve Hathaway

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — At the moment, you may be working through some frustration or tension regarding a risk you wish to take. It’s as though you’re ready to take the leap but can’t see how you will land on the other side, or even if an ‘other side’ exists for you to land on. As an Aries Moon, you are used to shaping your world your way; having a feeling of control over what you build in your life. This current bold move is stretching your sense of control, bringing the feeling of tension and possible uncertainty. I suggest meeting this feeling of daring and the unknown head-on. Take stock of the resources at your disposal. You have plenty in the way of skills, experience and knowledge to renegotiate the situation as it unfolds and successfully make the leap that you are envisioning. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Beauty is an important component of your life, especially your environment. I don’t mean necessarily hanging expensive paintings in your home and having gold faucets in your bathroom; rather being surrounded with sounds, visual elements and things you can touch that bring you pleasure. I suggest taking note of your different environments — such as your home space, work environment, the view out of your house, places you frequent. Which ones do you feel most nurtured by, in terms of what is in the space, and which areas do you desire to rearrange or redecorate? Take some time over the next few weeks to rework and rethink all of your spaces. How can you change what is in them to provide greater emotional nourishment? Even a few small changes can provide you with a greater sense of emotional balance and harmony. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — During this week’s Full Moon in Leo, you are being called to reexamine the complex layers of your emotions. It’s time to shift through the layers of information contained in your emotional body to gain a new perspective on the family themes you have lived with on a daily basis. These themes include emotional and mental messages that govern decisions, personal perspectives and motivations. Often they operate on the unconscious level, surfacing as habits, thought patterns and emotional responses. You have an opportunity to examine these themes on the conscious level, to question many of these ideas and themes and whether or not they serve you. I suggest approaching this process with honesty regarding what is your material and what was taught to you. You are in a position to take over your internal dialogue. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — During the Leo Full Moon, you are working through a few new concepts regarding your sense of feeling good about who you are. Thought of another way, your ideas around what builds your self-confidence are expanding. These new ideas are grounded in your creativity — what you give back and contribute to the world that comes from deep within you. At the moment, you are working through a process of self-discovery that starts with your inner creative fire as a source of self-worth. Applying your inner creativity to all areas of your life brings a sense of authentic involvement with the world around you. It brings a feeling of belonging; a sense that there is not just space for you in the world, but that your contribution is needed. You are making contact with your inherent right to exist. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — The current astrology is highlighting the place from where you derive your solid sense of security. At the moment, you may be questioning how secure in your life you really are. This can come with sensations of instability or feeling like what you felt was solid is just a mirage. External forms of security are just that — not authentic sources of inner security and strength. They can’t bring lasting emotional security because they can come and go. You are being called to make an honest assessment of what creates a genuine feeling of belonging in your life; to orient on an inner knowledge that who you are is solid ground — solid enough to stand on. Ultimately, this process is reconnecting you with your inner core, which provides that feeling that you do exist and you do have a place in this world. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — You may feel at odds between how you desire to live and how you are living daily. What you feel you need to do to stay emotionally healthy may not seem to fit with your daily structure and routines. Ultimately, you are the one in a position of power to control how you spend your time each day. Don’t give this personal power away through projecting blame, frustration or anger on other people or situations. You have the power to set your boundaries, lay out how you spend your time, and plan what you put your energy and love into. I suggest taking the next few weeks to reflect on what you need and how you can express the changes you desire. This will provide focused clarity in your upcoming discussions. A few honest conversations will get you far in restructuring how you live. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You are taking a look at how you show up in larger group settings. You can think of this as who you are when you are out amongst your network and the groups that make up your public life. Group dynamics can influence who we are in these larger social situations. Think of this moment as a chance to check in and reevaluate how you are filtering yourself when you engage with others socially and professionally. Are you operating from a position of authenticity? Are you orienting on who the other people want you to be rather than who you are? You don’t have to shift that far to bring greater authenticity to your social interactions. Rather, a few conscious choices will help you bring more groups into your life that are aligned with who you are deep inside. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — As a Scorpio Moon, you naturally assume positions of leadership, like an old, worn, comfortable coat that you can easily slip on. A work opportunity is presenting itself, calling for you to put on the coat. Others are looking to you to provide the guidance and management to achieve a few long-held goals. This is bringing an intense focus on what you can and can’t achieve with your personal skill set, knowledge and experience. Much of what you have worked through on a personal, internal level over the past few years has prepared you to be ready for this moment. I suggest seeing any feelings of doubt or fear as a sign that you should do just the opposite — tackle the situation head-on and trust in yourself to be a strong and effective leader. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — During this week’s Leo Full Moon, you are working with a quickly changing system of beliefs, like some core ideas you’ve held for quite some time are now slipping like jelly through your fingers. What you believe today may feel dramatically different from what you believed yesterday. Take note of these changes in personal philosophies and viewpoints going back some time. I suggest actually sitting down and journaling out the beliefs that have guided your decisions and how you’ve felt over the last couple of years. You will be able to connect quite a few dots to follow an evolution in your belief system. What you are making contact with is how your desire nature forms a basis for much of your personal perspective. Ultimately, you are shifting to beliefs that are in alignment with your authentic desires, wants and needs. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — You are working through a perceived impasse regarding how your personal resources are accessed and used by others. You can also think of this in terms of where you feel your boundaries are being ignored or overstepped in ways that impact your livelihood or finances. This Full Moon in Leo is taking place while Mercury is also retrograde. The current astrology is calling for a reevaluation of how you apply your boundaries with others, as well as where you need to renegotiate relationship agreements that impact you financially. I suggest taking the next few weeks to get clear on what you need in terms of the current agreements you are in. From this position of clarity, you will be able to communicate effectively with partners and colleagues to establish agreements that support both your needs and boundaries and those of the other individual. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Over this week’s Leo Full Moon you are working through a few questions regarding balance in your life — how to find an equilibrium between your career and your relationships. You’ve been through periods of time when you applied yourself intensely to one or the other. This brought much progress to one area of your life, but it may have come with the sensation that your life was full in some areas and experiencing a drought in other areas. You are reevaluating how this single-focused approach has or has not supported your feeling emotionally satisfied. As you look at ways to carve out time in your life for both your relationships and your career, I suggest taking the more holistic viewpoint: that both areas of your life support each other and help each other to grow. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Sometimes ‘different’ can be a good thing — disrupting outdated, set patterns; shaking loose information; changing perspectives. Sometimes ‘different’ can be a distraction or challenge to navigate. You are working with an internal need for something ‘different’ — such as different ideas or a new place to live, or a change in daily routines or even different types of people around you. This energy for change and newness may feel like it’s trying to burst forth from within you. I suggest taking a moment to pause and discern which ‘different’ you want in your life that serves where you are going, and which new idea, situation or person does not fit with your vision. A few new ideas, people or ways of doing things presenting themselves now will help you make positive changes to how you live on a daily basis. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Today is The Day We Fight Back

Dear Friend and Reader:

You are reading your Planet Waves subscription on the Internet — the only place we can deliver our original content, commercial free, directly to you. But as you’ve no doubt heard, the Internet is subject to an ongoing invasion by those who would read your mail and index your phone calls, and who would prefer if all content was pre-certified by Comcast and Monsanto.

Planet Waves

Today there is a worldwide day of action designed to resist this, focused on online privacy. It’s called The Day We Fight Back. It’s part protest and partly a way of commemorating the contribution of Aaron Swartz, a programmer and Internet activist who was falsely charged with federal crimes and, as a result, took his own life early last year.

In today’s edition of Planet Waves FM (now ready) Eric looks at the astrology of this event, and at the natal chart of Aaron Swartz. He also covers the Leo Full Moon that takes place Friday.

We’ve also introduced another program on Planet Waves FM, called Dan and Eric’s Music Appreciation Hour. Don’t be deceived by the understated program title; it’s a lively program wherein Eric and Dan listen to music, consider what it says and how it’s made, and take interesting digressions into the many topics that music can spawn. The program goes up Sunday evenings. This is their third edition.

Genevieve Hathaway has interpreted the Leo Full Moon for all 12 Moon signs in this week’s Moonshine Horoscopes.

Today’s Daily Astrology column takes a closer look at Sun square Saturn, exact today and still functional in the Full Moon chart. You can get a lot of deep work done in a safe container and you have that option today, though you might find yourself having to navigate emotional sensitivity to do so.

Eric got the week started in Monday’s Daily Astrology post, settling us down from the recent Mercury storm as we gear up for the Full Moon. Every cause has an effect — something worth remembering as you make your decisions this week.

In Len Wallick’s column today, he considers retrograde Mercury’s imminent return to Aquarius tomorrow into Thursday, and the opportunity we have to transcend our limits. That will post to the Planet Waves blog at noon.

Yours & truly,

Amanda Painter

P.S. If you have not yet purchased access to the Mars Effect readings, individual signs are $29.95 (with discounts for multiple signs). Planet Waves Monthly Horoscopes for February 2014

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — Give partners and loved ones extra time and wiggle room to hesitate. Give them extra space to be self-centered. While you’re at it, give yourself that space as well; once you figure out you need these things, you’ll be more understanding of why others do as well. Over the next few weeks, you will gain a better understanding of where both you and partners are coming from. Remember that a partner or loved one’s lack of confidence may be associated with a memory that long predates your association. People will often allow their own past impressions to influence or even dictate what happens in a present-time situation. Ideally we would not do this, however, it’s more likely that the first step is learning to notice when it’s happening. This is the theme of the year for you — to know and understand the nature of projection, perhaps the most common psychological phenomenon. Projection is when you see something about yourself existing exclusively outside of yourself. As a clever writer recently pointed out, projection can only happen in the dark. So the first step is to gradually turn up the lights so you can see what is happening. The second step is to keep asking yourself what belongs to you and what belongs to someone else, and not to be satisfied with an answer till you have several points of documentation.

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — Venus will soon complete a rare retrograde (nothing of its kind has happened since 1803), which has taught you many things about the social conditioning that helped shape your character. One theme is the extent to which people who influenced you as a child were serving their own interests but tried to make it seem like they were doing you a favor. While this helped make you into the gritty and self-reliant person that you are, it’s taken a cost — and you seem determined to reclaim what you’ve given up. When the retrograde ends on Jan. 31, you may be left with the feeling that you’ve come close to some profound truth but could not break through to the core idea. The barrier between how far you’ve gone and what you actually want to possess is thin enough to push your hand through. It may not look that way, but it will feel that way if you use your tactile senses. In practical terms, when you encounter a belief about yourself or about the world, notice how you feel. Anything involving guilt can be considered suspect. Same for obligation you feel that does not have something productive in it for everyone, or where you come out on the short end of the deal. Question any form of any equation that includes, “You should dislike yourself because…”

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Current aspects may have you rethinking a career or business plan. That’s actually a great idea. You seem to have a good idea, though what you need to do is balance your idealistic concept of what is possible against a diversity of practical concerns. Give yourself time for this — you seem to be involved in a thought process that will take about six weeks. My first question is not ‘is this thing too idealistic’ but rather, are you reaching for what you know would be the very best goal? However, before you get there, I suggest you strip your plan down to its most basic elements — what you want and why, what you need and why, what you want to accomplish. Consider how you manage your reputation. To what extent is your strategy defensive (laying low, protecting your supposed image) and to what extent is your strategy proactive (carefully cultivating the reputation you want, and deserve, for what you’ve accomplished)? Gradually, your logical mind will take over, and I suggest you run all your ideas through this particular mental filter. Keep reducing your idea till you’ve arrived at the bare essence, and understand every element of your plan or idea. Then toward the end of the month, you’re likely to rethink it yet again, only this time with greater clarity. At that point you will find the missing piece, the creative gem, the love in the dream.

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — I suggest you concern yourself less about how you are perceived by others and use that energy to focus on the substance of your goals. We live in a time when appearances are dangerously overtaking reality, and when glamour as a metric is prevailing over the quality of someone’s character. You could say this has been going on since the first motion picture was released, yet in truth it’s something that is happening from moment to moment. You continually get the choice which to feed, appearance or reality. Meanwhile, in a similar vein, you seem ready to question a belief that until now you’ve taken for granted. This belief is influencing a relationship. It’s not showing up as definitively helpful or unhelpful, but rather as something that you need to understand thoroughly. The belief is influencing the way you make your agreements with others, in a sense, biasing you. It will indeed be helpful if you know what that bias is, and you will soon have the clarity and mental tools to do so. This is a matter calling for careful analysis, of your own thought patterns as well as the specific elements of your commitments. What do you expect of others and what do they expect of you? How realistic are those expectations and what are they grounded in? You will have happier relationships for knowing these things.

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — You seem to be seeking a compromise on a matter involving shared finances, or perhaps more accurately, a question about sexual values in an intimate relationship. The scenario seems to be going in the direction of someone’s fantasy of how things can be, though leaving out some of the more obvious practicalities. This is definitely a scenario that deserves to have logic, data or some form of science prevail, rather than any form of make-believe or let’s see what happens. And logic will indeed prevail, so I suggest you hold the line and be patient while the planets shuffle around in a pattern that describes the renegotiation of the relationship in a more holistic way. In other words, the discussion is likely to start on one topic, and then expand into other topics that are related on the level of shared values. This comes down to understanding the values you have in common, and those that you do not. I would remind you here that you’re in a somewhat vulnerable position when it comes to others overpowering you. It will not work so well to resist forcefully, so instead, I suggest you use persistence. Time is on your side. What is obvious to you will become obvious to others as the discussion moves along, and the result will be a new understanding of your relationship, built on level ground.

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — If you’re hesitating about a relationship commitment, I would remind you that there is no rush. You may sense that you’re heading for deep water, or like you’re gradually being drawn into a situation that you don’t fully understand. When you are ready, this may be fully appropriate. Yet if you’re uncertain of yourself, slow down and observe your environment. The first thing to listen to is your intuition. If you suspect that you’re not being given full information, or if you have a hunch that you’re in any way being deceived, then pause and begin to look more deeply into the facts. You don’t need to do this in an accusatory way, but rather in a way that seeks grounding in objective information. Consciously seek the truth, and make sure that you actually understand what you learn. Address any denial factor that may be present; be mindful of what you ‘don’t want to know’ or ‘refuse to believe’. This process will take a bit of scrupulous honesty with yourself, though there may be clues that get you closer to the heart of the matter. I suggest you investigate with extra care any situation involving alcohol, or the influence of mood-altering drugs, be they prescription or otherwise. The question to ask is: how is this influencing your relationship to reality? How is it influencing intimacy? You want to know.

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — The past five weeks of Venus retrograde seem to have been designed to help you understand the impact of your family history, and your complex emotions. The two are related; partly why your emotions are so complex is because you filter them through so many past impressions and memories. Yet many of those are not your own; they are habits and values you picked up from various people who influenced you. Take the time to sort out what belongs to you and what does not. Once you claim what is your own and let go of what belongs to others, you will feel a lot less lost, and be able to call yourself more fully present. This does not necessarily involve severing ties to anyone, though at times that is necessary. But it will help you immensely to know when someone else’s emotions became a point of orientation for you more important than your own feelings, and to see the distortion that created. That may go in two directions at once — being overly self-centered at times, and not being able to find your center at others. Understanding why you are the way you are is a theme that persists through most of the year. You’re likely to continue your review of the past, which is for the sole purpose of helping you know yourself better. That, in turn, will help you have clearer, more trusting relationships.

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — It’s essential for your wellbeing to sort out what influences in your life are nourishing and which are depleting. This is not as easy as it seems in a society where it’s considered normal for people to eat unhealthy food for the sake of ating, to have relationships for the sake of relationships and to purchase many things that they don’t need and barely even want. Since that is the cultural standard, it’s necessary to take the time to figure out whether something you take in — be it food, entertainment, information, family influences or emotional contact — actually sustains you. It would be worthwhile to consider this question in the context of any sexual influence as well. I think the concept of ‘addiction’ is overused and misunderstood, but it begins to have meaning when there is the quality of some influence potentially controlling your life. If during the next few weeks you find yourself at a full stop, or feel like you can no longer effectively negotiate with yourself, that’s the time to take some time and inquire about the issue of control. There is often an associated question about whether you want the responsibility implied by self-determination. The most common reason I’ve seen people abandon their power is because it seems to offer liberation from the consequences of their own mistakes. That’s one form of liberation that will never serve you.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — You could have things be a lot easier than they currently are; you seem to have figured out that allowing yourself to be involved in complex situations is a way of learning about yourself. You seem to be in a scenario where your connection to someone else is like a personal development laboratory, or where you’re seeking self-actualization in the context of a relationship. You may have also figured out that such a thing does not work for you, and are resisting being so immersed in someone else, or anyone, with every cell in your being. There does seem to be a question lurking behind all of this, which is the extent to which you allow yourself to feel your feelings, and whether you need the assistance of someone else who resonates with you. This is a good question, with many implications — though the main theme is that of emotional independence. You would do well to ask, especially under your current astrology, whether that is possible, and if it is, what it means. At one extreme of the spectrum is the loner, with no emotional investments. At the other is someone codependent, whose emotional state is totally invested in what others think. The balancing point is healthy interdependence. That is built of mutual respect, self-reflection, communication and honoring for yourself and for everyone else what measure of freedom we have here on Earth.

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — Something seems to have happened to you over the past couple of months, involving coming into deeper contact with your creative gifts and your sexuality. You probably know or can guess that I consider these elements of humanity to be closely related, stemming right from the same source. To develop one, it’s essential to develop the other. Venus retrograde in your sign beginning at the solstice, spanning through the end of January, has done something magnificent for you: you have embodied something that was previously abstract or that existed in potential. You have taken steps to reclaim gifts that may have previously made you nervous, that you took for granted or considered something that only had relevance when you were younger. Here is the ongoing challenge: Devotion to artistry and the arts of erotic love requires self-focus. Even in our narcissistic culture, that can be considered suspect, and it can certainly be an irritant (or threatening) to people who have never considered any such quest. You need courage to persist on this mission, and you need to be willing to wrap your whole life around what will seem like a form of over-focus. Yet the idea is not to get lost in yourself — in order for your work or your discovery to have relevance, it’s necessary to find yourself. You are well on the way. Keep going.

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Something is shifting for you on a deep inward level, which may feel like the healing of a kind of isolation or loneliness that has followed you around for a while. This has taken you a step closer to your soul, just when you were wondering if such a thing was even possible. Pay attention and you’ll notice that this keeps happening, with a slightly different feeling each time, though each time feeling like you’ve seated yourself in your own existence a little more firmly. It helps to make peace with the solitary nature of existence, or at least the compelling sensation of that effect. It’s the feeling of being alone in the universe that is a step in the awakening of every spiritually conscious person. That sensation of isolation does two things — it can come with the choice to give up looking outside yourself for what you can only find within; and it’s what opens the space to have the awakening of how alone you are not. That awakening is the dawn of authentic selflove. Nearly everyone who arrives there has earned it. They have faced their own darkness, to some real extent, and the mystery of their own existence. You are not done, but if your charts mean anything, you’re working with many more resources than you had just a few short months ago.

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — You may feel like you’re dancing around the choice to immerse yourself totally in who you are — as if you’re playing a game of approach-avoid. Let’s assume that is true for a moment. When you feel any kind of approach-avoid, the first thing to check for is guilt. Fully soaking in your own reality implies that you will be yourself, and express yourself, without any reservations. Approach-avoid might show up as hesitancy with people knowing who you actually are, as if hiding it from yourself could in some way prevent them from finding out. That almost never works. People already recognize you and most are grateful for the example you provide. Some don’t seem that way, it’s true; you make some people nervous. I suggest, however, that you not underestimate the influence you have even on their lives. That said, it does not matter what anyone else thinks. Rather than avoiding anything, you actually seem to have come close to a discovery that you want to investigate, or have made an observation about yourself that you want to verify with some additional inner questing. I believe you’re about to discover how much sense you make; that is, that your seemingly most unworldly dreams, when subjected to logical analysis, actually make perfect sense. My saying this matters little, though — when you figure it out, it’ll rock your world and boost your confidence.

Moonshine Horoscopes — Cancer Full Moon Edition

Dear Friend and Reader:

Wednesday, Jan. 15, is the Cancer Full Moon, exact at 11:52 pm EST. (View full chart here).

Planet Waves

This Cancer Full Moon chart has a lot going on, making it challenging to feel out the best course of action in any situations where you feel conflict (especially conflict with an authority figure, including any internalized authority figures). The Moon is in sensitive, emotive Cancer, opposite the Sun in conservative, restrained Capricorn. That difference in expression alone can create some tension, and it’s a difference you’re likely to experience as playing out externally.

Take a moment to think back to the Capricorn New Moon on New Year’s Day. It was only two weeks ago, yet you may feel like certain situations in your life have changed considerably since then. The Cancer Full Moon is the companion event to that New Moon; this is the peak of the lunar cycle. Certain situations that were seeded on Jan. 1 are coming to a head and may resolve or develop as the Moon begins waning again Thursday.

Then again, one option you have with this Full Moon is to hold whatever tension is present until a moment when you can act in clearer accord with your values. As Len Wallick points out in his column today, holding tension, negotiation and approaching the conflict with creativity are all viable ways to work with the seeming polarities presented with this lunation.

Keep those options in mind. The Sun and Moon are being aspected by four astrological goddesses (Black Moon Lilith, Eris, Ceres and Vesta) reminding us that as surely as the feminine principle can create, it can also destroy. You might not be wholly comfortable with that power, choosing instead to ascribe it to an intimate partner, a parent or another authority figure.

If you don’t acknowledge and own both your light and your dark, embodying both Sun and Moon, you give up your authority and ability to guide its power according to your values and what is best for you. What is truly best for you, ultimately, also serves the highest good for all concerned.

Yours & truly,

Amanda Painter

Cancer Full Moon Moonshine Horoscopes | By Genevieve Hathaway

Aries (March 20-April 19)

Aries (March 20-April 19) — As a Moon sign that naturally wants to push outward and express yourself, the inward pull you are working through may feel a bit uncomfortable or unfamiliar, like you are too much in your own skin. I suggest using your level of discomfort or unease as a marker that you are on the right track — probing into old material from long ago. Even if you can’t make contact with the exact details of an experience that may have created a wound, moving through the emotional memory of the experience will help you heal. As you sit with this material notice the moment when the energy reaches a peak. This can come with the sensation of something being burned off or released. What is left behind is an internal stillness, an open space within which you can create new emotional memories and feelings. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Taurus (April 19- May 20)

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — An opportunity is presenting itself to connect some dots between how your thought patterns impact your emotional state, and also the influence your feelings have on you mentally. Notice how you feel when you have positive or negative thoughts, and also take note of what attitudes and mindsets come up when you feel good or not so good. I suggest taking the holistic viewpoint that your emotional, mental and physical bodies are all parts of the same system — a system that is complete, rather than separate things. You can also think of this idea as these parts of yourself being interconnected — when you think positively you feel positive. The opposite is true as well. As you apply these ideas to your mental and emotional self you will be able to increase both your emotional and mental wellbeing. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Gemini (May 20- June 21)

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — You are working and reworking the concept of resources — what you have to give and also the resources of others that you have to draw on. A project is calling you to apply your own resources, but also those of others that you have access to. This may feel daring or risky to rely on others. I propose that this feeling is based more on fear and guilt than on how someone will actually respond. As you proceed, employ clear parameters and boundaries for how the other person’s resources will be applied, as well as clarity regarding what you need from them. Assumptions can lead to miscommunication. You can’t control the other person, but you can provide the opportunity for them to participate. Trust that they will, and are in fact looking for the opportunity. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Cancer (June 21- July 22)

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — As a Cancer Moon, you are used to having your emotions close to the surface. Lately it may feel like they are running at high tide, threatening to breach the banks and overflow. At the moment, much feeling is pushing out from within you. I suggest viewing this expansion of emotion less as a wave to hold back and more as an expanded experience of existence. This can come with the sensation of living all of who you are — all at once. What you are moving through is a shift in your mode of living to a position of allowing your emotions to be out front leading you. They are one of your greatest resources to understanding your experience of life, and an authentic expression of who you are at your core. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Leo (July 22- Aug. 23)

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — This week, during the Cancer Full Moon, your dream space is particularly fertile. Much in the way of information and useful ideas are coming through as you sleep. I suggest keeping a journal next to your bed and writing down your dreams — both the events you remember, but also how you feel about them. Dreams are opportunities to explore internal material that you may not have the words or perspective to work through with your conscious self. As you notice the themes of your dream world, take into consideration how it applies to your father’s inner trip, particularly around the time you were born. His genetic code passed on a few issues for healing that go back generations. You are making headway now addressing and healing this material. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Virgo (Aug. 23- Sep. 22)

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — Your astrology is highlighting a question regarding personal and collective spaces. Think of the collective arena as the areas of your life that meet the larger world through projects, people, groups and your work. At the moment, the collective area of your life may feel more personal and your personal space more influenced by the public. These areas are not so much distinct spaces as they are adjoining rooms. The door connecting the two rooms has been opened and contents and occupants of each are moving between the two spaces. This rearrangement may make these spaces feel foreign. I propose that what this process is actually doing is shaking up the personal and collective parts of your life to expand and shift your perspectives. An opportunity is on offer to re-envision the role you and others play in your personal and collective space. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Libra (Sep. 22 - Oct. 23)

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You may be experiencing a division between what you thought you wanted and what you actually want in terms of your work, as though your work and your highest calling seem to be moving on two different tracks. I propose that those tracks are easier to merge than they may initially appear. It starts with what you say ‘yes’ and ‘no’ to. Each choice you make moves you in a direction. Doing work that is your highest calling involves your soul being highly invested — a job or career that is an extension of ‘you’ in a deeply personal way. As the next few weeks progress I suggest basing your career decisions on who you are at a fundamental level. On offer is an opportunity to merge all of your work-related paths into one that fully supports what you feel most called to do with your life. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Scorpio (Oct. 23- Nov. 22)

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — You are challenging a few long-held ideas about what fills you with joy and nourishes your soul. This is firing up a lot of passion. What you are working through may also come with sensations of urgency or a need for resolution. You are reaching the end of a cycle of growth and making much headway in healing material around how you relate to what you are most passionate about. As you work through this material, take a look at your mother’s attitudes toward nurturing and everything that grew out of it. What desires were pushed aside and which were accepted? Then step back one layer and examine the external sources and attitudes that influenced her choices and perspective. You are learning some key information that is helping you build a new relationship to your inherent desire nature. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 22)

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — At the moment, you are reworking some old ideas about the masculine/feminine energy dynamic in regards to sex, particularly in terms of how these energies play out in you. You possess an openness regarding acting on your desire and experimenting, rather than holding back from what you want. I suggest following your curiosity and seeing where it leads. As you share your desires with a partner, bring your full honesty to the conversation. I recognize that sex and talking about desires are deeply personal, vulnerable experiences. Remember, your partners are feeling the same thing, too. As you have conversations with them about sex and what you want to try, trust that these people are open and interested. Hold space for partners to express what they wish to try; encourage their curiosity and interest in new experiences. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Capricorn (Dec. 22- Jan. 20)

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — This week’s Cancer Full Moon takes place in the sign opposite your Moon sign, bringing very personal astrology to your relationship angle. Emotions in your closest relationships may be running particularly high. Whatever you experience coming from others, try examining yourself for the same. At the moment, relationships are like a mirror, reflecting the material you are working through in your emotional space. This new perspective on your own emotions provides the distance necessary to reflect on what you feel and where the emotional response came from. Is it authentic or a learned pattern? I suggest not rushing the process. Apply patience and realize with grace that you are healing. You are making much headway in building a new relationship with yourself that will in turn extend to your close partnerships. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Aquarius (Jan. 20- Feb. 19)

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — You are navigating a few quickly changing situations regarding your health, specifically the resources at your disposal to keep yourself healthy. By resources, I don’t just mean having enough cash in the bank, but resources that extend beyond your bank account, such as the people, knowledge and health programs you can draw on. A recent development may feel like it has created some hurdles. Instead of worrying about how you will clear each blockade in your path, I suggest maintaining a sense of flexibility as you continue to work the situation to find a solution. If you meet resistance, apply creative finesse to find a solution rather than trying to barrel ahead. The simplest, most elegant answer will get you the furthest in resolving the situation and help you obtain the resources you need to stay physically strong. — by Genevieve Hathaway

Pisces (Feb. 19- March 20)

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — You are pushing back against some long-standing emotional issues you’ve been working to heal, as though you reached a decisive moment and feel ready to meet that moment with your full potential. This can come with sensations of it being a daring or bold move. What you are experiencing is the completion of an emotional growth process — a process that has brought you into contact with how to put your needs and emotional nurturing before helping others. It’s not your job to feel guilty or wrong for being true to your needs, or taking care of those needs. As a Pisces Moon, you are naturally in tune with those around you, caring for others before yourself. Keep tending your own inner space. Ultimately, you can help others better by meeting them from a place of being good to yourself. — by Genevieve Hathaway

This Week on Planet Waves + Your Moonshine Horoscopes

Dear Friend and Reader:

The Cancer Full Moon is exact tomorrow, Jan. 15, at 11:52 pm EST. The chart is a busy one involving several of the goddesses of astrology, and like all Full Moons, this one is upping the emotional ante for interpersonal interactions. Genevieve Hathaway has interpreted the event for all 12 Moon signs in her Moonshine Horoscopes here.

Planet Waves
The Cancer glyph for The Mars Effect, from a new set of astrological symbols by Lizanne Webb. So far, you can listen to audio previews for five of the signs.

Eric, meanwhile, is getting close to finishing your 2014 annual readings. He’s working on the written interpretation for the 8th sign right now (the audio interpretations for each sign are done), which means you still have time to pre-order all 12 signs for the discounted rate of $79 — that’s 12 signs for the price of about two-and-a-half signs.

You may also pre-order individual signs for $29.95 each — though you should know that every year we hear from people who loved the one or two readings they bought so much, they wished they had gone for the whole package from the outset. Doing so lets you easily read for your rising and Moon signs, plus the signs of your loved ones.

Eric already has this week’s Planet Waves FM broadcast uploaded and ready for you. Today he’s covering the Cancer Full Moon, and Daniel Sternstein will be joining him again to co-host. Eric and Daniel will also discuss understanding environmental dangers and what you can do about them. Their musical guest will be Gary Lucas, featuring a recording with his music student, the late Jeff Buckley.

Today’s Daily Astrology column picks up the corner of the building square between retrograde Venus in Capricorn and Mars in Libra, which is part of the Full Moon landscape. This square is the middle one in a three-square process between these two very personal planets, encouraging you to check out both sides of the story.

Tomorrow’s Cancer Full Moon is bringing out the shades of light and dark associated with several main goddesses of astrology, namely Black Moon Lilith, Eris, Ceres and Vesta. As noted in Monday’s Daily Astrology column, Cancer is an especially sensitive placement for the Moon, and having the Sun opposite tends to polarize emotions; notice when you might be projecting your light or dark onto someone else.

Len Wallick’s column posts to the Planet Waves blog at noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Today, he considers the potential for conflict in the Cancer Full Moon and three options to that conflict: creativity, negotiation and holding the tension until a more opportune moment. All of which require some work to determine what’s right for you this week.

Yours & truly,

Amanda Painter
