Danielle Voirin’s Photo of the Day for 09.01.15

Paris traffic. We're in the middle of la rentrée des vacances - returning from vacation. "La rentrée" is synonymous with "early September," two words heavy with all the activity related to back-to-school and return-to-work. After a month of comfortably uncrowded metro cars and bike-friendly traffic, the city is filling up with Parisians, rested and ready for action. But by October they'll be planning their next break.

The ephemeral image of a cyanotype, after the paper has been exposed to light, but before it is developed. Development in water will wash away the yellow (un-reacted iron solution) leaving only Prussian blue tones and white.

Summer and the Samaritaine, two things talked about in the past tense that we wish were not. This week in Paris, every three hours it feels like late September blows through.

The symbol of the false myth that if you put a padlock on the Pont des Arts in Paris, you and your love will one day return. In the meantime, that bridge is falling apart under the weight of padlocks, which are now forbidden, so locks can be found anywhere, even up here on the 2nd floor of the Eiffel Tower. J & A, do you still have the key?
