Planet Waves Weekly Horoscope for Oct. 20, 2016

Weekly Horoscope for Oct. 20, 2016, #1122 | By Amy Elliott
Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — If in the past week or so you’ve experienced anything from minor turbulence to a full-on tempest, you’ll be relieved to feel the weather clearing up. You might also be glad to find there was a purpose to the boat-rocking. This involves letting go of an old habit. Something has been holding you back from living life to the fullest. Now you are beginning to see how to distance yourself from it, and the potential healing in that process. If you still need a key to the riddle, fun, artistic endeavors or sheer relaxation may provide it. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — This time of year usually involves a focus on your relationships in some way. This year, however, it seems there’s an intensifying quality to the spotlight. This could manifest as a soulful deepening of commitments, or possibly a search for fresh meaning and connection. Remember that you have the ultimate power to give meaning and impetus to your life. The great gift of your lasting devotion is best applied to whatever is truest to your principles. Therefore, do not allow anyone to hurry you into any commitment before you are ready. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — Everyone is a work in progress to some extent, and it appears progress is what you’re currently making. If life is a detective novel, you’ve either just found an important clue or are about to come across one. Your present mission may involve digging deeper than you usually like to go. Yet, there is every indication that it’s worthwhile, to say the least. If you feel inclined to back away rather than face possible discomfort, here are two thoughts that might help: firstly, talk to someone you love and trust; secondly, think of this as a puzzle, and you’ll get on splendidly. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — If you need a little breathing space, go ahead and take it. I’d recommend spending at least some time this week consciously doing things that help you relax. In particular, whatever sustains or improves your wellbeing would make excellent priorities. Your sign has a rather beautiful reputation of caring for others; just now, you will almost certainly maximize your effectiveness in that regard by taking care of yourself first. When you are in the place you need to be, your calmness ripples out to soothe others without effort or exertion. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — You’ve always been, to some extent, a beacon to guide those around you; and just now you are blazing perhaps brighter than ever before. If there’s anything you feel you really could do with more of in your life, it may well start coming to you. Check in with your heart: does opening or relaxing into that space begin to let in what you desire? If any challenges arise, check that you have given out the clearest message possible to anyone involved. Finally, as far as you can, be the example you would most wish to set if you knew people would watch, listen and follow. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — At last you have the opportunity to make those deep-seated changes you’ve been planning. There is a force stirring in some hidden part of your psyche that is longing to emerge, if only you will allow it to. If you’re worried there may be unforeseen difficulties, remember that you are actually a lot stronger than you think. Those who love you best understand this well: mutable sign you may be, but when it comes to what truly matters, you might as well be made of titanium. Take heart. — by Amy Elliott. “Eric, as always, your reading is spot on and validates what I am experiencing in life at this time.” — Ginger Aarons on the 2016-17 Libra Birthday audio segments. Get instant access to your Libra Reading here, and we’ll let you know as soon as the video tarot portion is ready to go with the available audio.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You have permission from the cosmos to believe in yourself. In fact, you might even choose to foster such belief actively. If needs be, you could (for example) find a convenient mirror and compliment yourself to your face. Alternatively, you may have some idea of how to make life better for people in your community — whether by charitable work, activism or in other ways. If that’s something you would be happy doing, then by all means forge ahead. Your community loves you, and they are only waiting for an opportunity to show it. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — The Sun is about to enter your sign, beginning the season in which (so they say) the veil between the worlds is thinnest. Born into this moment, you are likely to understand this concept intuitively, and you know of its rich potential for growth. That is true whichever hemisphere you happen to live in; and this year, your strong instincts or your subconscious could provide much of the fuel you need to boost your most significant ambitions. I suggest you pay attention to your inner voice, and also record your dreams. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — Some of your core philosophy appears to be undergoing a change. It’s possible that recent new experiences, perhaps involving getting to know someone better, have widened your perspective considerably. You can now begin to reap the benefits of this alteration, starting with giving your new ideas a good airing. As long as you are not judgmental or severe in your communications, you’re likely to find more sympathy and goodwill than you might have expected. This is a moment you’ve been preparing for; now it seems you’re ready. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — The world is not your burden to carry, although I am sure you feel that way sometimes. You need to take it easy. Make sure you’re getting enough rest, and that your living space is as comfortable as it can be. This might also be a good time to cultivate your inner life as well as your dealings with what is outside: your imagination is richer than many suspect, as you may have discovered lately. When you’ve had sufficient time and space to refresh yourself, you will be better equipped to proceed with being an asset to the entire planet. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — If your Saturnian side has come uppermost of late, you might feel in need of some fun. I’m sure you know not to take any careless risks. That caveat in place, I suggest you indulge. Gather your posse and sally forth into the streets (or possibly the shopping mall, the funfair or the nearest quirky bar). Let your inner child loose; bring them into consultation if needs be. This should make it a good deal easier for you to be the person you’re required to be in the more serious areas of life. After all, everyone needs a bit of playtime. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — Don’t get too distracted or lose sight of the inspiration you’ve had. I realize that in today’s environment this is easier said than done. However, it would probably be useful just now to ensure that you follow through with commitments as well as you can. There will be plenty of time to explore all the fascinating side paths you’re presently noticing, as long as you take steps not to get lost in them. Your long-term plan is much too important for you to get waylaid. I suggest you keep your notes in order and muster your powers of concentration. — by Amy Elliott. Today’s Eclipse: Open Thread

We’re in the midst of the big eclipse energy, magnified by Mars and Pholus — as if an eclipse isn’t potent enough all by itself. (Here are links to last night’s edition, which includes the relevant Moonshine Horoscope by Len; and to Eric’s Monday horoscope, for your reference.)

Add in the fogginess of a Pisces Moon, and you’re looking at one of those supermoon-type optical illusions, wherein things look larger than they really are.

lunar160916-auvo-korpi-cc2

Photo of today’s penumbral eclipse by Auvo Korpi.

Put simply, this means that we’re all likely to be feeling some form of psychological tension. It’s not unjustified.

The U.S. election is fast approaching — a culmination of many, many months of weirdness and high-running emotions — and many people are looking forward to this period being over, so we can return to something like normality.

Jupiter has already brought some welcome change by entering Libra. This will be followed next week (Sept. 22) by the Sun’s own ingress into that sign, accompanied by Mercury stationing direct.

In the meantime, as Eric suggested in yesterday’s edition, the key to easing any feeling of stress or anticipation may well be accessing the gifts of Chiron: “healing comes to those who ask for it.” That, first of all, involves awareness of what might need the attention of the healer; and secondly, it requires willingness to embrace the help offered, and to accept that changes are possible.

We’d like to provide this space for you to discuss your eclipse experiences. Please feel free to come forward with comments or questions.

Mercury: Getting To the (Aries) Point

If you’re a regular reader of Planet Waves, chances are you know your Mercury retrograde pretty well. You know that it happens roughly three times per year, and that it usually entails taking extra care over a variety of matters; mostly to do with finance, communication and technology. Mercury retrogrades are often easily navigable by following those steps, although each of these phases has a unique signature — and can still be quite frustrating.

theylive3

I just couldn’t resist this reference: 1988 cult classic, They Live — a movie about hidden messages and unraveling the truth.

Mercury will station retrograde on Tuesday, Aug. 30 at 9:04 am EDT (13:04 UTC), in the very last degree of Virgo.

In other words, it stations on the Aries Point (the very next degree of the zodiac begins Libra, and activity in the first degrees of all cardinal signs counts as Aries Point activity). Yet another unusual quality: Mercury will station retrograde just two days prior to a total solar eclipse.

What that would seem to translate to is this: pay attention. Listen, record and remember — and, of course, don’t forget to make backups. Notice the subtext of words and actions, and where matters in your personal life correspond to the wider field. I’d advise that you keep an eye on said wider field as much as you can stomach without spontaneously combusting: not easy in the midst of election season, but quite possibly worth it in terms of the patterns or themes that might reveal themselves.

It’s likely the events of this week could lead to big changes, in the sense of the future being virtually unrecognizable from the past. You have the ability to steer this transformative energy in the direction of your choice. That’s an opportunity to watch for once Mercury is back on track; right now, you have the chance to ensure your choices are as clear and informed as they can be.

Loose Ends and Clear Beginnings

This week kicks off almost immediately with the Sun’s ingress into Virgo later today. After the turbulence just gone by, this will hopefully feel like a refreshing change — a sense of things settling somewhat and falling into place, or at least a neater arrangement.

symmetry-toroid-ardonik-cc2-600x450

This wonderfully intricate origami creation, by Ardonik, is apparently known as a toroid. It’s made of a set of truncated cubes.

Yet you may also be experiencing the need to tidy up some loose ends. If there’s something you want to draw a line under, it could well be useful to review what is left to be done, and to plan your next steps carefully and logically.

Also, pay attention to anything that appears to irritate you or feels out of sync. That might be an indication of something that needs to be worked through, or a nudge to put you more firmly on track.

Once you’ve spent as much time on this as necessary, you will likely be well placed to move forward. This may involve commencing an entirely new project of some sort; or possibly the revival of a former creative aspiration: something you’ve perhaps been looking forward to getting underway.

Despite the Mercury slowdown, there seems to be plenty of energy available to make substantial progress; and the more thorough you are with the housecleaning, the more solid the foundation on which you’re building is likely to be. Check in with that occasionally by all means. Then keep going.

Weekly Horoscope for August 11, 2016

Weekly Horoscope for Aug. 11, 2016, #1112 | By Amy Elliott
Aries

Aries (March 20-April 19) — For a story to be interesting, it usually requires at least a little difficulty. If the hero immediately lays their hands on the prize, there’s nothing to tell. This reflects the idea that the best rewards are the ones worth a substantive effort. You now have the chance to get closer to something you’re seeking. Are you ready to be the protagonist of your own tale? If you are facing challenges, take heart — they’re just likely to make the victory sweeter, and the adventure more of a page-turner. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Taurus

Taurus (April 19-May 20) — You may find, this week, that you are in possession of considerable ability to persuade, influence and carry things through. Make sure you use it wisely and in the service of a principle you hold sincerely. Listen to people you trust, and don’t let self-doubt plague you; above all, be earnest in all your endeavors, and honest too. Hold yourself to the highest possible standard. Then enjoy the ride, because you’ll probably be moving faster than a rabbit at a dog show. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Gemini

Gemini (May 20-June 21) — On more than one occasion Eric has said, “space is intelligence.” If you have an idea on the brew, it’s possible that the first step to drawing it forth is to make sure your space is ready. Tidy up any clutter that’s preventing you from breathing freely. You may be surprised by how much clearer your head feels afterwards, and by the potentially multiplying effect on your creative skills. Then you can get on with the business of making a more vibrant and wonderful world. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Cancer

Cancer (June 21-July 22) — A particular issue or theme in your life right now may appear like a puzzle with several layers. Your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to keep digging until you find the solution. You will need to make use of logic, and also of skepticism — that is, recognize that the surface environment is probably not what it seems. If you seize instinctively on an apparently obvious answer, the chances are you’ll need to look again, and look deeper within yourself, for the gem of truth. — by Amy Elliott. Leo

Leo (July 22-Aug. 23) — Play has many useful purposes. In children, it fosters important social and emotional development as well as honing brain skills. We all need to play sometimes, even in adulthood when we’re expected to be all serious and grown-up. This week, be sure to indulge your sense of fun — not only would this have great healing potential, you could well find your creative wits becoming sharper. Respect others’ self-direction by all means, but don’t let anyone try to stifle or control yours. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Virgo

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sep. 22) — This could be a pivotal week for your aspirations, in terms of personal development, and for your relationships. If you’ve been pondering over the question of what you truly want, or where you want to be, you may receive a providential clue; possibly this could come from someone close. Notice what’s happening around you as well. Whatever happens, make the most of your time; be ambitious regarding the work you intend to accomplish, and then simply get going. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Libra

Libra (Sep. 22-Oct. 23) — You can safely continue your preparations to emerge from the shadows and burst upon society, like the glorious being you are. There may be some who would like to keep you hidden, but by now you have a pretty good idea how to circumvent that. Your charm speaks for itself. Lay plans for the next few years, in well-ordered steps that you can follow easily; be determined to achieve your goals. Above all, maintain faith in yourself and practice self-kindness. You have good reason. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Scorpio

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 22) — The phrase “count your blessings” is in some ways rightly considered a platitude. When someone really has a problem, this is the last thing they need to hear. Yet if you are feeling tempted by the allure of the grass in the next field, there might be some use in looking more carefully at the one you’re standing in before hopping the fence. You’ve recently been building on good solid ground, and you have some excellent resources at hand. Make sure you’re using them to their fullest capacity. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Sagittarius

Sagittarius (Nov. 22-Dec. 22) — “It’s life, Jim, but not as we know it.” Your particular universe seems to be expanding, and I have no doubt you’ll soon be making first contact with some exotic, previously undiscovered species. I am of course speaking metaphorically. Yet recent experiences might well feel as if you’d somehow landed on another planet. There may still be more revelations to come. Keep your eyes peeled; and if you have an interesting idea, put it out where others can see it. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Capricorn

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 20) — We earthy types have a reputation for not especially relishing sudden change; yet there’s a good chance you’ve grown somewhat used to the ground shifting. You know now that it’s part of existence. At present, changes seem to be occurring in the breadth of your horizons, which is to say you’re learning that certain things really are possible. It’s likely that someone specific is acting in the role of teacher. If so, notice that and pay attention. Their message will probably benefit you considerably. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Aquarius

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 19) — Resist the temptation either to brood or to do anything that involves more risk than you know would be wise. There is more than enough variety of choice in between. You would probably do well to spend some time with friends, especially if you feel in need of support. In addition, you’re likely to continue developing your knowledge in an intriguing and fresh direction. Your mind seems to be unusually sharp and cohesive just now, and you can use that to your advantage. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

Pisces

Pisces (Feb. 19-March 20) — If you’re interested in developing your cultural or artistic knowledge, someone in your life may offer you an opportunity to do precisely that. It’s said we all have a touch of the divine within us. Notice who around you is expressing theirs particularly strongly, and follow where they lead; even if it’s down the rabbit hole, the destination will probably make the journey worthwhile. In fact, what you learn now could serve as an important foundation for future endeavors. — by Amy Elliott. For your Eric Francis horoscope this week, please see this link.

What the Eye Doesn’t See, the Feet Can Trip Over

These days a sense of unreality is pervasive. We’re overwhelmed by gigatons of information courtesy of cyberspace, and we live in an age in which politicians and media pundits insist that there are no absolute facts.

Neptune-Lee-Haslup

Image of Neptune by Lee Haslup.

It’s enough to make anyone’s head spin. Yet as Jupiter opposes Chiron this week, which Eric discusses in the latest Planet Waves TV, we have the opportunity to point a searchlight into all that fog.

How do you begin to do this? Firstly, as Eric suggests, it’s important to abandon the notion that facts are at best relative.

Without getting lost in a vortex, you can safely assume that if you dig deep enough, you’ll eventually find a solid truth at the root of every question. Doing this often takes a lot of diligence and organization, but it’s worth it.

Dispensing with credulity — or, as Eric puts it, checking against multiple sources — might be another useful technique this week. Social media facilitates the spread of memes, platitudes and dubious stories — the more shocking, the better. Yet if you scratch the surface, the substance can be lacking.

I myself (to my shame) have been occasionally caught up in a frenzy of collective emotion over some astonishing headline, only to find the actual story is wildly different, or has a date that in internet years might as well be in the Jurassic era. It’s all too easy not to notice errors, or to assume something is legit. So this week, buck the trend and take extra care. You never know what you might end up discovering.

Mars and New Moon: Be Real, Be Bold

This week is shaped astrologically by several events; the main ones being the New Moon in Leo, which is aspected by centaurs Chiron and Pholus, and Mars re-entering Sagittarius following its retrograde phase. Both take place Tuesday, just a few hours apart; this might precipitate a sense of cramming, which would be decidedly reflective of our times.

Leo is known for its association with creative works, leadership and a sunshiny benevolence. The astrology of this year’s Leo New Moon seems to work with these ideas, but at a deeper level.

That is, you may wish to consider your desired contribution to the world, and the steps involved in getting there, in the context of what you and your generation intend to leave to the next.

You could benefit from checking in with your younger self, and earlier dreams and aspirations; if some of these ideas still speak to you, how might you begin putting them into practice? What kind of occupation would represent the purest (as in most sincere) expression of yourself? Of course, practicalities must and will intrude at some stage; but you still need an idea or theory to begin with.

Eric suggested that Mars ingressing Sagittarius involves a “be real” moment, and discerning between true spirituality and bullshit. I would include in that: if you’re feeling anything approximating relief now that Mars’ sojourn in Scorpio is over, be careful not to throw away the lessons of that period. They’re significant and substantive. It’s crucial that you remain connected with yourself and your body, rather than floating away into cyber-somnolism, which is really a kind of denial.

As Neale Donald Walsch put it, “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” I think it’s safe to say that innovation and real growth begin there, too. If you keep that edge in sight this week, you could take some important forward strides.

Leo: Sunshine for the Heart, and Creative Kicks

The Sun is now decidedly in Leo. It seems a minute ago the year was new-minted; and yet now we’re cruising straight for Lammas (the Pagan midsummer festival, in early August), and enough has happened to make the past eight months seem like 16 years.

july27-2016

Mars is also starting to gather speed once more, and is moving away from the quincunx with Uranus-Eris, which might hopefully bring a slight ease of recent tensions. That should be assisted by a grand fire trine, also involving Uranus-Eris (the other parties being Pholus in Sagittarius and Mercury — with Venus hot on its heels — in Leo).

Then on Monday the Sun will itself form a trine aspect to Saturn, on its way to entering that same formation.

That’s a lot of fire energy being expressed through harmonious, or easy, contacts; to name a few possible effects, this can fuel an inventive, playful or pioneering spirit. It’s resonant with the time of year — think barbecues and parties on a warm day, or relaxing on the beach.

We could all use a breather right now, and this week’s astrology has one or two pointers.

Firstly, you may benefit somewhat from treating yourself with the same sort of kindness you’d offer to someone who had recently been through a difficult experience. For example, cultivate the company of people in whose society you feel happier. And notice what you’re eating, because (speaking from many years of experience) nothing gives you mood swings quite like a sugar rush.

Above all, pay attention to your feelings and instincts; work patiently with them, and get to know their true origin. Remember also that shame and guilt are tools of societal oppression, and treat them accordingly should they appear.

Then, if you feel irritation or worry begin to build, take deliberate steps to find a safe and effective outlet. If this outlet is creative, all the better — because this astrological setup is ideal for any project of that sort. If, as the saying goes, you have a novel in you, by all means dust off your pen and get scribblin’.
