In the Body

Len Wallick suggests that the nearly coordinate moves of the Moon (into Pisces) and Mercury (into Taurus) today will be a shift best and most vitally understood in the body. You will have to stretch your mind — even in such simple and vital ways as cooking your own food from scratch the next couple days.

Mercury enters Taurus today at 6:51 pm EDT (22:51 UTC), less than three hours after the Moon ingresses Pisces at 4:12 pm EDT. Those two sign changes amount to a greater shift of emphasis in the sky than would normally take place in one day. Even though it’s a celestial phenomenon, the nature of that shift will be best and most vitally understood in the body.

It has to do with how Taurus is a fixed earth sign, a milieu of solidity. It’s also about how Pisces is a mutable water sign, an environment of change and flow.

Tangible water and solid matter are both what your body is made of, and what you know best from physical contact. That’s because you find both water and solid matter collected and concentrated where your body resides, on the surface of the Earth.

Even though the Moon is far above the surface of the Earth, nearly all of astrology’s lunar connotations are best accessed and expressed through what the body feels rather than through what the intellect abstracts. Additionally, the rapid changes in the Moon’s visage as it proceeds through its phases graphically correlate with the ebb and flow that physical feelings and water have in common.

Hence, after two-plus days of the Moon moving through the rigid thought forms corresponding to the fixed air of Aquarius, it will not take much imagination to actually feel lunar qualities begin to express themselves more strongly later today. Indeed, you would be best off to dispense with imagination all together and simply pay attention to what your gut feelings tell you about where you are and what you are doing.

Fortunately, going with the flow of what your body tells you of the Moon in Pisces will also help you to more fully initiate and appreciate Mercury in Taurus. Even so, you will probably need to do a bit of stretching, both literally and figuratively.

That’s because Taurus is not as natural a fit for Mercury as Pisces is for the Moon. Nevertheless, if ever there were a time to make the most of Mercury in Taurus, it is now.

For you live in a time when it is vital to (as Eric put it yesterday) “claim your humanity back” from an electronic environment that has become increasingly robotic and less creative. An environment of, by and for the mind that closely correlates with Mercury as it is commonly expressed in your life. Yet, an environment that is also making your mind more like a machine and less a part of what your body feels.

Implicitly, then, you will need to avail yourself of uncommon expressions of Mercury, such as through the solid, tangible, physical, human values of Taurus

Additionally, if you are to “feel the disturbing extent to which something about you has been taken from you,” you will probably need to feel it through the body first. Then, you must allow what you gather through the body to inform the mind with physical feeling rather than with digitized information.

That will be a stretch. More specifically, you will be required to stretch. You will need to stretch your legs, your back, your neck; pay attention to what you feel, and think about what it means. You will need to place your electronic devices so that you have to stretch more to reach them — so that your body will tell you about those things you might have been doing mindlessly for so long, you don’t think about it.

Most of all, you will have to stretch your mind. It may be as simple and vital as taking the time to (heaven forbid) prepare your own food from scratch, with all the discernment, preparation, measuring, evaluation, and time away from electronic devices that requires.

Indeed, if you can do simply that — cook from scratch, for the next two-plus weeks while Mercury moves through Taurus — you may very well change your life substantially. For in addition to rediscovering some humanity over a hot stove, you might actually improve your mind’s nourishment enough that it notices the difference. If that should happen, you will be less likely to forget that your mind and body are in fact one.

“If ever there were a time to make the most of Mercury in Taurus . . . ” Wow, I’ll say; you know what this means Len? The Moon and Mercury will form a yod with the Super Galactic Center (SGC) in early Libra. All those big black holes! Phil Sedgwick calls it the “Libra cosmic vacuum cleaner”. We will need the sturdy, solid common sense Taurus Mercury-sextile-spiritually porous Pisces Moon to keep from being totally sucked into something overwhelming.

A friend of mine has her son in the hospital isolation ward with infection complications. Meanwhile she has a major day-at-the-office (all day conference) and she’s a Taurus Sun person. I can see the SGC as the gravity pull of her son’s condition, quincunx her thought processes (Taurus solid) and emotions (Pisces Moon), trying to get a handle on all that. Mercury in Taurus sounds like the saving grace.

Before she died, Maya del Mar (Daykeeper Journal) wrote that a yod symbolizes “a compulsive ‘debt’ repayment associated with the area of the chart pointed out”, and in my friend’s chart the SGC is in the 12th house (she also works in a hospital). Hmm. . Maya also said that a yod “indicates change and transformations”. I think we can all vouch for that one. Anyway, I will pass along your advice to “dispense with imagination all together”.

As for the stretching, I can imagine (sorry, it just slipped in) how beneficial that will be, especially now, since I’ve been sitting at this desk for a while. Must go fix my lunch . . from scratch. Thanks for all the great advice Len.

Michael: Thank you for your affirmation.

Barbara: Please convey my best wishes to your hard-working friend and her hospitalized son. May his body recover with no lasting scars to his mind. Please accept my thanks as well for once more holding forth with authority on the Y-shaped combined aspect known as a yod. Finally thank you for passing on and integrating both the elegant erudition of Mr. Sedgwick and the wisdom of the late, great Maya del Mar. It is so good that you have your computer problems behind you so as to comment here at Planet Waves once again.

Thanks for being so thoughtful Len, I will let them know. Wanted to let you know that Makemake is at 1+ Libra so there’s more definition to that yod. . . it’s not just all gravity. Makemake relates to being good with words and “conscious of family security and safety” according to Phil Sedgwick. Another astrologer has some interesting ways to watch how Makemake goes about his creativity, depending on which level that energy is expressed. What do you think?

When Gautama Buddha awoke, he called upon the Goddess of the Earth (Venus? Ishtar?) as the witness of his Awakening. We experience our existence through the vehicle of our body, bringing attention to our organism, and living the coming astrology through our organism, is the only way to really make it work.

Thank you Len for your timely reminder.

Stretching and lengthening, strengthening and breathing into the pain, I am working through low back spasm…. carrying the weight of the world seems too much today…
Thanks Len, needed the reminded that I am never alone, always cosmically connected.
Now off to stretch some more.

Thank you so much Len; for bringing it back to the body, our bodies, and for being another voice at Planet Waves reminding people to cherish what makes us capable of making machines, but not being one.

I reluctantly returned to teaching after a 10 year break because I am so concerned with the collective genetic legacy that is in the making (truncated sense perception from organs that atrophied because of technology) and setting us up collectively, as a species, for generations in the future not having the potential to see, hear, taste, touch, smell and FEEL as we do today.

We need to have a “take a walk without your phone” day….and “go on a date without your phone” evening.

I’ve been taking walks without my phone AND going on dates (ok, a date) without my phone this week, and it’s amazing how such a seemingly small act frees up SO much space. Now to get on that plan of getting a real alarm clock again so that I’m not sleeping with my phone next to my bed… or better yet, learn to wake when I need to.

Barbara: Thank you for bringing up Makemake, gradually working itself into that Libra gravity well opposite the Aries Point. It is one of the most remarkable placements in our current astrology. There are so many thing that could be said. Eric has cogently noted how Makemake in aspect inevitably correlates with how things got to be the way they are now (hopefully i got that right – Eric?). My own take is that Makemake (which has a slow, slow apparent motion) has a connection with what Rousseau called the social contract, in that every time Makemake changes signs (which it does gradually, and usually with three ingresses before commitment) there seems to be a revision of the social contract. Hope you find my answer to be satisfactory. Thanks for the link as well.

chief niwot’s son: My thanks to you in turn for the spiritual erudition of your observations and your gracious way with words.

Jennifer: You are most welcome. You are definitely not alone. You have my empathy from personal experience as regards to those low back spasms. It is like having a broken axle. Keep stretching and breathing into where that pain has located and listen to your body tell you how it came to be there of all places. May you feel better and more limber with your discoveries.

Yoniyoganidra: It is for all of us to thank you for sharing your inspiration and your return to service in the world. Your perceptions of the current human condition and suggestions for dedicated days are pitch perfect and eminently actionable. May it be made so far and wide.

The term ‘Beginner’s Mind’ has been wafting through my head lately and seems to fit right now. I already like the Mercury gear shift. All-natural ingredients for the nourishing meal!
    Thank you, Len.

Mandy: A very appropriate term, thank you! May it be that Mercury’s new place in Taurus (until the end of April) suits you to a proverbial “T”!
