“Human history can be viewed as a slowly dawning awareness that we are members of a larger group. Initially our loyalties were to ourselves and our immediate family, next, to bands of wandering hunter-gatherers, then to tribes, small settlements, city-states, nations. We have broadened the circle of those we love… If we are to survive, our loyalties must be broadened further, to include the whole human community, the entire planet Earth. Many of those who run the nations will find this idea unpleasant. They will fear the loss of power. We will hear much about treason and disloyalty. Rich nation-states will have to share their wealth with poor ones. But the choice, as H. G. Wells once said in a different context, is clearly the universe or nothing.”
— Carl Sagan

Weekly Horoscope for Scorpio by Eric Francis Coppolino | View all signs
Watch your spending, and don’t let others spend your money. There’s something in your chart describing your boundaries as being a bit loose in these areas, so you’ll need to tidy up the edges and refrain from loaning anyone your debit card. That said, you’re in an unusually opportune moment to plan future business ventures. But keep your plans to yourself or limited to a carefully selected group of people. This is less about someone stealing your ideas and more a caution against scattering your energy by talking away your ideas. What you want now is a sense of containment, so that you can think clearly and seriously. Involve others on an as-needed basis. You don’t need to reveal your whole plan to any one person; you just need to know, develop and respect your ideas yourself. You set your own ethics, your own schedule and your choice of whom to involve.

At a certain point, everyone must stand up to their family. That means some kind of declaration of personal independence, or the asserting of your actual personhood. The more you fear being judged, the more this is necessary. People are entitled to their opinion about you — not control over you. What you’re doing is a form of taking leadership: first over your own life, and then as an example.

Written in the Planets
Today Mars enters Aquarius. This placement describes the tension between the individual and the group in our society. It’s not easy to be yourself, though most of the ways we compromise are invisible, small or subtle — until one day you question what exactly happened to your freedom, your independence and your integrity. Mars is saying that it’s not only OK to assert yourself against the people around you, it’s necessary. Remember, though, that it’s your privilege to live your life your way. You don’t owe anyone an excuse, an explanation or an apology — particularly your friends or your family.

Venus is also in an interesting position: it’s conjunct the Galactic Core, the core of our home Milky Way galaxy. The Galactic Core is a kind of cosmic homing signal, and today it’s broadcasting the message that the cosmos is inherently female. We’re so far from living that reality that we might not notice even if it were true. You might ask yourself why the feminine principle, or anything female, is considered so controversial. Why are there such strong reactions, so much negativity and such a need to dominate? There is a reason, and if you watch, listen and think today, you might figure out what that reason is.
