A Question Of Balance — Gemini Full Moon

Len Wallick has noticed something about Saturday’s Gemini Full Moon: with so many planets in Sagittarius and pretty much just the Moon in Gemini, things are rather out of balance. It’s a reflection of our world, but neither the astrology nor humanity is static — and your ability to say “that’s far enough” indicates your opportunity to engage with both consciously.

When the Gemini Full Moon opposes the Sagittarius Sun at 7:27 am EST (12:27 UT) Saturday, the Moon will reflect the Sun’s light onto a world out of balance in many ways. Fortunately, the astrology of which the Gemini Full Moon will be just a part will provide you reason to reflect on how balance might be restored.

In the sky, on the zodiac circle, and in the rest of the natural world, equilibrium is in practice a continuum of either real or apparent motion. Most often, the motion is cyclical, like the seasons. Sometimes the motion in question takes the form of waves, which also transmit both energy and information.

Other times, the continuing dynamic of balance entails rising alternating with falling, as in the level of rivers, or tides. One can also observe advances followed by retreats, followed by advances, then retreats again.

Whether it’s round and round, up and down, or back and forth, the natural process of balance is never static. Nevertheless, things can go only so far one way before they must come back the other way. It’s a journey more than a destination. It’s an engine more than a creation. The middle way is never attained finally, but always continuously.

Unfortunately, in human affairs balance is not a given. It must be made to happen. Your checkbook does not balance itself. Neither do the scales of justice. There is no natural process to assure that right will overcome might.

Yet, all sentient beings have some sense of what’s right from their individual perspective. The fact that human beings tend to form communities confers upon you at least some additional sense of what’s right for everybody involved. It is through that very common sense of common decency that the journey towards balance begins in your life, and in the world.

An innate sense of what’s best for everybody involved must in turn be balanced with awareness. That’s where astrology, particularly the astrology of Saturday’s Full Moon, will come in.

As a first principle, astrology provides a detached perspective. It’s a way of getting away from the stresses and stories that make everything so confusing and distorted down here. We can look at what’s going on up there, based on the premise that down there and up here are actually one continuous whole — the system we call solar.

The demonstrable fact that you are an interactive part of the cosmos is the premise upon which Eric and others are even now composing the Planet Waves annual edition for 2015, appropriately titled “Cosmophilia.”

Recognizing the same fact will give you something to add to your innate sense of common decency — the perspective conferred by higher ground.

To attain that perspective, it’s not necessary to get all technical and complicated about the astrology of the Gemini Full Moon. But it would help to isolate two factors: a factor of space, and a factor of time.

The first factor is that of space. The Sun will have a lot of heavy company in its Sagittarius ‘space’ on the zodiac when it opposes the Moon at the moment of maximum fullness. Stepping back from the interesting but potentially distracting detail, visualize an entire football team on one end of a seesaw, and you will get the picture

Whereas in mid-Gemini, where the Full Moon will be, you can practically hear crickets. In other words, the axis connecting the luminary (Sun and Moon) opposition this month is, from a non-technical but still valid perspective, a clear symbol of imbalance.

Indeed, when you compare the number of astrologically significant objects in Sagittarius with the dearth of same in Gemini, and combine that fact with the sense that every Full Moon represents a culmination, it’s a clear signal from the cosmos that things have gone about as far one way as they possibly can, and/or probably should.

Then, there is also a time factor. This weekend’s Full Moon will take place only about a week before Uranus and Pluto reach an exact square aspect (a separation of 90 degrees on the zodiac circle) for the sixth time since June 2012.

For astrologers, when significant events occur within a short space of time, it is just as meaningful as when significant objects crowd into a narrow slice of the zodiac. This is especially true of the temporal concurrence between the Uranus-Pluto square and the Gemini Full Moon.

Repeatedly over the past several years, Eric has referred to the unusually long oscillating continuum of Uranus-Pluto squares as “era-defining.” Hence, any closely concurrent events will implicitly contribute to the definition of the era even now being shaped — which is where you come in.

You factor in because you are indisputably here now, and because you are unavoidably (if not undeniably) part of a greater whole. As part of a greater whole, you are also demonstrably more than just a cog because (unlike the Sun, Moon, Uranus, Pluto or any other constituents of naturally oscillating equilibriums) you can choose.

And because you can choose, you have a power conferred to no planet and none of the stars. You have the power to tip the balance.

You are, by your very being as a human, conferred with the capacity to both recognize an imbalance between might and right, and a responsibility to do something about it, if only by the example your conduct sets.

If there’s anything to astrology, your example will make a difference. If indeed an entire era is even now in the process of taking shape, the difference you make will implicitly last much longer and take up significantly more space than you ever dreamed possible.

Realize the impossible dream begins by consciously using the occasion of this weekend’s Gemini Full Moon. Use it to recognize the imbalance perpetrated by might, and to say (if only to inform your own choices), “that’s far enough.”

This is breathtaking, Len. I was working with Elisa just last night, when we came to the question of: “when will it be enough?” This piece is such an eloquent & Light response to that quandary, it brings tears to my eyes. Thank you, dear Len.

Thanks Len, you are so good at drawing out points from event charts that would normally be overlooked by most of us, and they too always seem to shift the balance of what the chart indicates on the surface. For example I was drawn to the fact that on the same day as the Full Moon, tomorrow, the Sun will conjunct the Great Attractor, as he does this time every year.

As you point out, there is much activity in Sagittarius, and all those bodies have or soon will conjunct the Great Attractor. Even during the time when the Uranus, Jupiter trine was tight, and then at October’s lunar eclipse at 15+ Aries, the GA was right in there with them, forming a grand trine in fire signs.

Personally, I’ve been drawn back to the BP disaster in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010 for non-related (or maybe not!) reasons, but noticed that at that time, Pholus was at 15 Sagittarius 05 retrograde (rx), only arc minutes from being conjunct the GA. I don’t recall any mention of it at the time but it’s the kind of detail that a Gemini Moon (or Mercury anywhere) would be sure to point out. You know, small cause, big effect? Something else I wouldn’t have caught back then was that on the day before the disaster (which was April 20th) there was a very, very tight yod between the Sun (29 Aries) sextile Chiron (29 Aquarius) both quincunx Saturn (29 Virgo rx). Then of course, Chiron moved into Pisces and all hell broke loose.

Since Ceres is one of those planets now transiting through Sagittarius, and only a few days ago she was conjunct the GA herself, I’m wondering if she didn’t spark my desire to take another look at the chart for the BP Disaster chart. Beings that she is associated with Earth’s resources (and right now she’s conjunct the Sun and Mercury opposite this full moon in Gemini) it would still be important to her. She was conjunct Pluto at the time the Gulf “oil spill” began you probably recall.

That was before we were all caught up in Pluto’s squares with Uranus, since Uranus wouldn’t make his 1st entry into Aries until the following month (May 27, 2010). When he did, Jupiter in Pisces would be opposite Saturn in Virgo, and the Moon in Sagittarius would oppose the U.S. Sibly chart’s Uranus at 8+ Gemini, a sign of things to come. Also in that (Uranus entry #1) chart Neptune, as he was at the time of the oil disaster, was at 28+ Aquarius, having just left his conjunction with the U.S. Moon at 27+ Aquarius. The U.S People (symbolized by the U.S. Moon) have been trying to recover from that delusional onslaught ever since.

Judging from the (mostly unmentioned here) less conspicuous aspects I’ve uncovered from the BP Oil Disaster chart, there’s no telling what other past sins are waiting to be explored by the Sun-conjunct-GA opposing the singleton Moon in Gemini. Take your pick, I’m sure there’s a million of them.

Well, I’ll mention one other thing about the BP Disaster chart. At that time Vesta (what’s invested in) was at 22+ Leo, where Jupiter (understand) is now, and will station retrograde this Monday. Just sayin’.

Strawberry: Your kind affirmation is gratefully received.

aWord: Please accept my gratitude for your validation as well.

Alaine: Thank you for your question. It is a good and worthy question. Thank you also for having been so patient waiting for my answer. First, please be aware that without my knowing the context of your nativity as whole that my response must only be taken “in general” (as you put it). The midpoint of a square aspect is separated from the square’s two constituents by 45 degrees. A separation of 45 degrees is the so-called “minor” aspect known a a semi-square. Some refer to the semi-square aspect as a “hidden square”, which is a useful term. Applied to your natal horizon line, the Uranus-Pluto square implies in general that you are somehow in the right place at the right time to meet a karmic purpose as of yet unclear. Since the idea of belonging here is the core of Eric’s annual edition, checking out his annual reading for your rising sign could very well bring you some clarity. Please let me know if my answer is not satisfactory.

Barbara: Thank you for bringing up the subject of the Great Attractor – one of the heavy things on the Sagittarius end of the seesaw. Just as you say, the Sun conjoins the Great Attractor once a year, but it is NOT every year that a solar conjunction with the GA is opposed by a Gemini Full Moon. Hence, the Full Moon (which will be positioned close to where Venus transited the Sun on June 5, 2012) is among the factors that will make a significant annual event unique this year. Thank you also for invoking the astrology of the Deepwater Horizon disaster, which took place on the very day the Sun entered Taurus to precisely sextile Chiron’s ingress to Pisces, and how Pholus’ concurrent conjunction with the GA combined to give us a useful perspective on the event. Indeed, yours is a good (and deeply appreciated) reminder to pay special attention when conjunctions with the GA correlate (in space AND in time) with other significant astrological events. Finally, thank you for noticing a correlation with the degree of Jupiter’s impending retrograde station – yet another clue that will undoubtedly contribute to a greater understanding of our time.
